Verse 74:43 in Context

39 إِلَّاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٣٩ illā aṣḥāba l-yamīn but the Companions of the Right will sta 40 فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝٤٠ fī jannātin yatasāalūn in Gardens and as 41 عَنِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٤١ mā salakakum fī saqar about the guilty 42 مَا سَلَكَكُمۡ فِی سَقَرَ ۝٤٢ Ma salakakum fee saqara ‘What drove you to the Scorching Fire?’ [they will ask]
43 قَالُوا۟ لَمۡ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُصَلِّینَ ۝٤٣ qālū lam naku mina l-muṣalīn and they will answer, ‘We did not pray
44 وَلَمۡ نَكُ نُطۡعِمُ ٱلۡمِسۡكِینَ ۝٤٤ walam naku nuṭ'ʿimu l-mis'kīn we did not feed the poor 45 وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلۡخَاۤىِٕضِینَ ۝٤٥ wakunnā nakhūḍu maʿa l-khāiḍīn we indulged with others [in mocking the believers] 46 وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِیَوۡمِ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٤٦ wakunnā nukadhibu biyawmi l-dīn we denied the Day of Judgemen 47 حَتَّىٰۤ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلۡیَقِینُ ۝٤٧ ḥattā atānā l-yaqīn until the Certain End came upon us.’
