115 وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِیُضِلَّ قَوۡمَۢا بَعۡدَ إِذۡ هَدَىٰهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ یُبَیِّنَ لَهُم مَّا یَتَّقُونَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمٌ ۝١١٥ wamā kāna l-lahu liyuḍilla qawman baʿda idh hadāhum ḥattā yubayyina lahum mā yattaqūna inna l-laha bikulli shayin ʿalīmu God would not condemn for going astray those He has already guided [to the faith] before making entirely clear to them what they should avoid. God has knowledge of everything 116 إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُۚ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِیࣲّ وَلَا نَصِیرࣲ ۝١١٦ inna l-laha lahu mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi yuḥ'yī wayumītu wamā lakum min dūni l-lahi min waliyyin walā naṣīri control of the heavens and earth belongs to God; He alone gives life and death; you have no ally or helper other than Him 117 لَّقَد تَّابَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِیِّ وَٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِینَ وَٱلۡأَنصَارِ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ فِی سَاعَةِ ٱلۡعُسۡرَةِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا كَادَ یَزِیغُ قُلُوبُ فَرِیقࣲ مِّنۡهُمۡ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِهِمۡ رَءُوفࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١١٧ laqad tāba l-lahu ʿalā l-nabiyi wal-muhājirīna wal-anṣāri alladhīna ittabaʿūhu fī sāʿati l-ʿus'rati min baʿdi mā kāda yazīghu qulūbu farīqin min'hum thumma tāba ʿalayhim innahu bihim raūfun raḥīmu In His mercy God has turned to the Prophet, and the emigrants and helpers who followed him in the hour of adversity when some hearts almost wavered: He has turned to them; He is most kind and merciful to them 118 وَعَلَى ٱلثَّلَـٰثَةِ ٱلَّذِینَ خُلِّفُوا۟ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا ضَاقَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتۡ وَضَاقَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَظَنُّوۤا۟ أَن لَّا مَلۡجَأَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّاۤ إِلَیۡهِ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ لِیَتُوبُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝١١٨ waʿalā l-thalāthati alladhīna khullifū ḥattā idhā ḍāqat ʿalayhimu l-arḍu bimā raḥubat waḍāqat ʿalayhim anfusuhum waẓannū an lā malja-a mina l-lahi illā ilayhi thumma tāba ʿalayhim liyatūbū inna l-laha huwa l-tawābu l-raḥīm And to the three men who stayed behind: when the earth, for all its spaciousness, closed in around them, when their very souls closed in around them, when they realized that the only refuge from God was with Him, He turned to them in mercy in order for them to return [to Him]. God is the Ever Relenting, the Most Merciful
119 یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝١١٩ yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū ittaqū l-laha wakūnū maʿa l-ṣādiqīn You who believe, be mindful of God: stand with those who are true
120 مَا كَانَ لِأَهۡلِ ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ أَن یَتَخَلَّفُوا۟ عَن رَّسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا یَرۡغَبُوا۟ بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ عَن نَّفۡسِهِۦۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ لَا یُصِیبُهُمۡ ظَمَأࣱ وَلَا نَصَبࣱ وَلَا مَخۡمَصَةࣱ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا یَطَءُونَ مَوۡطِئࣰا یَغِیظُ ٱلۡكُفَّارَ وَلَا یَنَالُونَ مِنۡ عَدُوࣲّ نَّیۡلًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُم بِهِۦ عَمَلࣱ صَـٰلِحٌۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُضِیعُ أَجۡرَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٢٠ mā kāna li-ahli l-madīnati waman ḥawlahum mina l-aʿrābi an yatakhallafū ʿan rasūli l-lahi walā yarghabū bi-anfusihim ʿan nafsihi dhālika bi-annahum lā yuṣībuhum ẓama-on walā naṣabun walā makhmaṣatun fī sabīli l-lahi walā yaṭaūna mawṭi-an yaghīẓu l-kufāra walā yanālūna min ʿaduwwin naylan illā kutiba lahum bihi ʿamalun ṣāliḥun inna l-laha lā yuḍīʿu ajra l-muḥ'sinīn The people of Medina and their neighbouring desert Arabs should not have held back from following God’s Messenger, nor should they have cared about themselves more than him: if ever they suffer any thirst, weariness, or hunger in God’s cause, take any step that angers the disbelievers, or cause any harm to an enemy, a good deed is recorded in their favour on account of it- God never wastes the reward of those who do good 121 وَلَا یُنفِقُونَ نَفَقَةࣰ صَغِیرَةࣰ وَلَا كَبِیرَةࣰ وَلَا یَقۡطَعُونَ وَادِیًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُمۡ لِیَجۡزِیَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَحۡسَنَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٢١ walā yunfiqūna nafaqatan ṣaghīratan walā kabīratan walā yaqṭaʿūna wādiyan illā kutiba lahum liyajziyahumu l-lahu aḥsana mā kānū yaʿmalūn if they spend a little or a lot for God’s cause, if they traverse a mountain pass, all this is recorded to their credit so that God can reward them in accordance with the best of their deeds 122 ۞ وَمَا كَانَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ لِیَنفِرُوا۟ كَاۤفَّةࣰۚ فَلَوۡلَا نَفَرَ مِن كُلِّ فِرۡقَةࣲ مِّنۡهُمۡ طَاۤىِٕفَةࣱ لِّیَتَفَقَّهُوا۟ فِی ٱلدِّینِ وَلِیُنذِرُوا۟ قَوۡمَهُمۡ إِذَا رَجَعُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَحۡذَرُونَ ۝١٢٢ wamā kāna l-mu'minūna liyanfirū kāffatan falawlā nafara min kulli fir'qatin min'hum ṭāifatun liyatafaqqahū fī l-dīni waliyundhirū qawmahum idhā rajaʿū ilayhim laʿallahum yaḥdharūn Yet it is not right for all the believers to go out [to battle] together: out of each community, a group should go out to gain understanding of the religion, so that they can teach their people when they return and so that they can guard themselves against evil 123 یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قَـٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ یَلُونَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡكُفَّارِ وَلۡیَجِدُوا۟ فِیكُمۡ غِلۡظَةࣰۚ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝١٢٣ yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū qātilū alladhīna yalūnakum mina l-kufāri walyajidū fīkum ghil'ẓatan wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha maʿa l-mutaqīn You who believe, fight the disbelievers near you and let them find you standing firm: be aware that God is with those who are mindful of Him
