51 قُل لَّن یُصِیبَنَاۤ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوۡلَىٰنَاۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥١ qul lan yuṣībanā illā mā kataba l-lahu lanā huwa mawlānā waʿalā l-lahi falyatawakkali l-mu'minūn Say, ‘Only what God has decreed will happen to us. He is our Master: let the believers put their trust in God.’ 52 قُلۡ هَلۡ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَاۤ إِلَّاۤ إِحۡدَى ٱلۡحُسۡنَیَیۡنِۖ وَنَحۡنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمۡ أَن یُصِیبَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابࣲ مِّنۡ عِندِهِۦۤ أَوۡ بِأَیۡدِینَاۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوۤا۟ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ ۝٥٢ qul hal tarabbaṣūna binā illā iḥ'dā l-ḥus'nayayni wanaḥnu natarabbaṣu bikum an yuṣībakumu l-lahu biʿadhābin min ʿindihi aw bi-aydīnā fatarabbaṣū innā maʿakum mutarabbiṣūn Say, ‘Do you expect something other than one of the two best things to happen to us? Well, we expect God to inflict punishment on you, either from Himself or at our hands. So wait; we too are waiting.’ 53 قُلۡ أَنفِقُوا۟ طَوۡعًا أَوۡ كَرۡهࣰا لَّن یُتَقَبَّلَ مِنكُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣰا فَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٥٣ qul anfiqū ṭawʿan aw karhan lan yutaqabbala minkum innakum kuntum qawman fāsiqīn Say, ‘Whether you give willingly or unwillingly, what you give will not be accepted, for you are disobedient people.’ 54 وَمَا مَنَعَهُمۡ أَن تُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُمۡ نَفَقَـٰتُهُمۡ إِلَّاۤ أَنَّهُمۡ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا یَأۡتُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ إِلَّا وَهُمۡ كُسَالَىٰ وَلَا یُنفِقُونَ إِلَّا وَهُمۡ كَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٥٤ wamā manaʿahum an tuq'bala min'hum nafaqātuhum illā annahum kafarū bil-lahi wabirasūlihi walā yatūna l-ṣalata illā wahum kusālā walā yunfiqūna illā wahum kārihūn The only thing that prevents what they give from being accepted is the fact that they defy God and His Messenger, perform the prayer only lazily, and give only grudgingly

55 فَلَا تُعۡجِبۡكَ أَمۡوَ ٰلُهُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَوۡلَـٰدُهُمۡۚ إِنَّمَا یُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ لِیُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَتَزۡهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٥٥ falā tuʿ'jib'ka amwāluhum walā awlāduhum innamā yurīdu l-lahu liyuʿadhibahum bihā fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā watazhaqa anfusuhum wahum kāfirūn So [Prophet] do not let their possessions or their children impress you: through these God intends to punish them in this world and for their souls to depart while they disbelieve

56 وَیَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمِنكُمۡ وَمَا هُم مِّنكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ یَفۡرَقُونَ ۝٥٦ wayaḥlifūna bil-lahi innahum laminkum wamā hum minkum walākinnahum qawmun yafraqūn They swear by God that they belong with you [believers], but they do not. They are cowardly 57 لَوۡ یَجِدُونَ مَلۡجَءًا أَوۡ مَغَـٰرَ ٰتٍ أَوۡ مُدَّخَلࣰا لَّوَلَّوۡا۟ إِلَیۡهِ وَهُمۡ یَجۡمَحُونَ ۝٥٧ law yajidūna malja-an aw maghārātin aw muddakhalan lawallaw ilayhi wahum yajmaḥūn if they could find a place of refuge, or a cave, or somewhere to crawl into, they would run there with great haste 58 وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَلۡمِزُكَ فِی ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتِ فَإِنۡ أُعۡطُوا۟ مِنۡهَا رَضُوا۟ وَإِن لَّمۡ یُعۡطَوۡا۟ مِنۡهَاۤ إِذَا هُمۡ یَسۡخَطُونَ ۝٥٨ wamin'hum man yalmizuka fī l-ṣadaqāti fa-in uʿ'ṭū min'hā raḍū wa-in lam yuʿ'ṭaw min'hā idhā hum yaskhaṭūn Some of them find fault with you [Prophet] regarding the distribution of alms: they are content if they are given a share, but angry if not 59 وَلَوۡ أَنَّهُمۡ رَضُوا۟ مَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَقَالُوا۟ حَسۡبُنَا ٱللَّهُ سَیُؤۡتِینَا ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَرَسُولُهُۥۤ إِنَّاۤ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ رَ ٰغِبُونَ ۝٥٩ walaw annahum raḍū mā ātāhumu l-lahu warasūluhu waqālū ḥasbunā l-lahu sayu'tīnā l-lahu min faḍlihi warasūluhu innā ilā l-lahi rāghibūn If only they would be content with what God and His Messenger have given them, and say, ‘God is enough for us- He will give us some of His bounty and so will His Messenger- to God alone we turn in hope.’
