83 فَإِن رَّجَعَكَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَىٰ طَاۤىِٕفَةࣲ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَٱسۡتَءۡذَنُوكَ لِلۡخُرُوجِ فَقُل لَّن تَخۡرُجُوا۟ مَعِیَ أَبَدࣰا وَلَن تُقَـٰتِلُوا۟ مَعِیَ عَدُوًّاۖ إِنَّكُمۡ رَضِیتُم بِٱلۡقُعُودِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲ فَٱقۡعُدُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِفِینَ ۝٨٣ fa-in rajaʿaka l-lahu ilā ṭāifatin min'hum fa-is'tadhanūka lil'khurūji faqul lan takhrujū maʿiya abadan walan tuqātilū maʿiya ʿaduwwan innakum raḍītum bil-quʿūdi awwala marratin fa-uq'ʿudū maʿa l-khālifīn So [Prophet], if God brings you back to a group of them, who ask you for permission to go out [to battle], say, ‘You will never go out and fight an enemy with me: you chose to sit at home the first time, so remain with those who stay behind now.’ 84 وَلَا تُصَلِّ عَلَىٰۤ أَحَدࣲ مِّنۡهُم مَّاتَ أَبَدࣰا وَلَا تَقُمۡ عَلَىٰ قَبۡرِهِۦۤۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمۡ فَـٰسِقُونَ ۝٨٤ walā tuṣalli ʿalā aḥadin min'hum māta abadan walā taqum ʿalā qabrihi innahum kafarū bil-lahi warasūlihi wamātū wahum fāsiqūn Do not hold prayers for any of them if they die, and do not stand by their graves: they disbelieved in God and His Messenger and died rebellious 85 وَلَا تُعۡجِبۡكَ أَمۡوَ ٰلُهُمۡ وَأَوۡلَـٰدُهُمۡۚ إِنَّمَا یُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن یُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَتَزۡهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٨٥ walā tuʿ'jib'ka amwāluhum wa-awlāduhum innamā yurīdu l-lahu an yuʿadhibahum bihā fī l-dun'yā watazhaqa anfusuhum wahum kāfirūn Do not let their possessions and their children impress you: God means to punish them through these in this world, and that their souls should depart while they disbelieve 86 وَإِذَاۤ أُنزِلَتۡ سُورَةٌ أَنۡ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَجَـٰهِدُوا۟ مَعَ رَسُولِهِ ٱسۡتَءۡذَنَكَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلطَّوۡلِ مِنۡهُمۡ وَقَالُوا۟ ذَرۡنَا نَكُن مَّعَ ٱلۡقَـٰعِدِینَ ۝٨٦ wa-idhā unzilat sūratun an āminū bil-lahi wajāhidū maʿa rasūlihi is'tadhanaka ulū l-ṭawli min'hum waqālū dharnā nakun maʿa l-qāʿidīn When a sura is revealed [saying], ‘Believe in God and strive hard alongside His Messenger,’ their wealthy ask your permission [to be exempt], saying, ‘Allow us to stay behind with the others’
87 رَضُوا۟ بِأَن یَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلۡخَوَالِفِ وَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝٨٧ raḍū bi-an yakūnū maʿa l-khawālifi waṭubiʿa ʿalā qulūbihim fahum lā yafqahūn they prefer to be with those who stay behind. Their hearts have been sealed: they do not comprehend
88 لَـٰكِنِ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتُۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٨٨ lākini l-rasūlu wa-alladhīna āmanū maʿahu jāhadū bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim wa-ulāika lahumu l-khayrātu wa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn But the Messenger and those who believe with him strive hard with their possessions and their persons. The best things belong to them; it is they who will prosper 89 أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٨٩ aʿadda l-lahu lahum jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā dhālika l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm God has prepared Gardens graced with flowing streams for them and there they will stay. That is the supreme triumph 90 وَجَاۤءَ ٱلۡمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ لِیُؤۡذَنَ لَهُمۡ وَقَعَدَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَبُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۚ سَیُصِیبُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنۡهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٩٠ wajāa l-muʿadhirūna mina l-aʿrābi liyu'dhana lahum waqaʿada alladhīna kadhabū l-laha warasūlahu sayuṣību alladhīna kafarū min'hum ʿadhābun alīmu Some of the desert Arabs, too, came to make excuses, asking to be granted exemption. Those who lied to God and His Messenger stayed behind at home. A painful punishment will afflict those of them who disbelieved 91 لَّیۡسَ عَلَى ٱلضُّعَفَاۤءِ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلۡمَرۡضَىٰ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَجِدُونَ مَا یُنفِقُونَ حَرَجٌ إِذَا نَصَحُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦۚ مَا عَلَى ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ مِن سَبِیلࣲۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٩١ laysa ʿalā l-ḍuʿafāi walā ʿalā l-marḍā walā ʿalā alladhīna lā yajidūna mā yunfiqūna ḥarajun idhā naṣaḥū lillahi warasūlihi mā ʿalā l-muḥ'sinīna min sabīlin wal-lahu ghafūrun raḥīmu but there is no blame attached to the weak, the sick, and those who have no means to spend, provided they are true to God and His Messenger- there is no reason to reproach those who do good: God is most forgiving and merciful
