1 A Great Prophecy

۞ الۤمۤ ۝١

غُلِبَتِ ٱلرُّومُ ۝٢

The Roman Empire has been defeated

ghulibati l-rūm

فِیۤ أَدۡنَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَهُم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ غَلَبِهِمۡ سَیَغۡلِبُونَ ۝٣

in the nearest part of earth; but they will be victors after their defeat,

fī adnā l-arḍi wahum min baʿdi ghalabihim sayaghlibūn

فِی بِضۡعِ سِنِینَۗ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ مِن قَبۡلُ وَمِنۢ بَعۡدُۚ وَیَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ یَفۡرَحُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٤

in three to ten years. All matters are up to God, in the past and in the future. And on that day the faithful will exult,

fī biḍ'ʿi sinīna lillahi l-amru min qablu wamin baʿdu wayawma-idhin yafraḥu l-mu'minūn

بِنَصۡرِ ٱللَّهِۚ یَنصُرُ مَن یَشَاۤءُۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝٥

with the help of God. God helps whom God will, and God is almighty, most merciful.

binaṣri l-lahi yanṣuru man yashāu wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-raḥīm

وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِۖ لَا یُخۡلِفُ ٱللَّهُ وَعۡدَهُۥ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٦

It is the promise of God: and God does not break a divine promise; though most of humanity does not know.

waʿda l-lahi lā yukh'lifu l-lahu waʿdahu walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn

یَعۡلَمُونَ ظَـٰهِرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ هُمۡ غَـٰفِلُونَ ۝٧

They know the externals of the life of the world, but they are heedless of the ultimate end.

yaʿlamūna ẓāhiran mina l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wahum ʿani l-ākhirati hum ghāfilūn

أَوَ لَمۡ یَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ فِیۤ أَنفُسِهِمۗ مَّا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَاۤ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّىۗ وَإِنَّ كَثِیرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِلِقَاۤىِٕ رَبِّهِمۡ لَكَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٨

Do they not reflect within their souls? God did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between them but in the right way and for an appointed term: but most of humanity does not believe in the meeting with their Lord.

awalam yatafakkarū fī anfusihim mā khalaqa l-lahu l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā illā bil-ḥaqi wa-ajalin musamman wa-inna kathīran mina l-nāsi biliqāi rabbihim lakāfirūn

أَوَ لَمۡ یَسِیرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَیَنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَانُوۤا۟ أَشَدَّ مِنۡهُمۡ قُوَّةࣰ وَأَثَارُوا۟ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَعَمَرُوهَاۤ أَكۡثَرَ مِمَّا عَمَرُوهَا وَجَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِۖ فَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِیَظۡلِمَهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝٩

And do they not travel the earth and see how those before them ended up? They were more powerful than these, and tilled the earth, and populated it, more densely than have these. And there came to them Messengers to them with clarifications. And God would not wrong them, but they have wronged themselves.

awalam yasīrū fī l-arḍi fayanẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu alladhīna min qablihim kānū ashadda min'hum quwwatan wa-athārū l-arḍa waʿamarūhā akthara mimmā ʿamarūhā wajāathum rusuluhum bil-bayināti famā kāna l-lahu liyaẓlimahum walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَسَـٰۤءُوا۟ ٱلسُّوۤأَىٰۤ أَن كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَانُوا۟ بِهَا یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝١٠

Then the end of those who did evil was evil, in that they rejected the signs of God and took them for a joke.

thumma kāna ʿāqibata alladhīna asāū l-sūā an kadhabū biāyāti l-lahi wakānū bihā yastahziūn

2 The two Parties

ٱللَّهُ یَبۡدَؤُا۟ ٱلۡخَلۡقَ ثُمَّ یُعِیدُهُۥ ثُمَّ إِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝١١

God initiates creation, then repeats it; then to God you are returned.

al-lahu yabda-u l-khalqa thumma yuʿīduhu thumma ilayhi tur'jaʿūn

وَیَوۡمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ یُبۡلِسُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝١٢

And on the day the hour arrives, sinners will be despondent.

wayawma taqūmu l-sāʿatu yub'lisu l-muj'rimūn

وَلَمۡ یَكُن لَّهُم مِّن شُرَكَاۤىِٕهِمۡ شُفَعَـٰۤؤُا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ بِشُرَكَاۤىِٕهِمۡ كَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٣

And they will have no intercessors from among their idols, and they will cure these idols of theirs.

walam yakun lahum min shurakāihim shufaʿāu wakānū bishurakāihim kāfirīn

وَیَوۡمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ یَتَفَرَّقُونَ ۝١٤

And on the day the hour arrives, on that day they will be divided:

wayawma taqūmu l-sāʿatu yawma-idhin yatafarraqūn

فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَهُمۡ فِی رَوۡضَةࣲ یُحۡبَرُونَ ۝١٥

those who had faith and did good works will be gladdened in a garden;

fa-ammā alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti fahum fī rawḍatin yuḥ'barūn

وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَلِقَاۤىِٕ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُحۡضَرُونَ ۝١٦

while those who disbelieved and repudiated Our signs and the final meeting will be brought to punishment.

wa-ammā alladhīna kafarū wakadhabū biāyātinā waliqāi l-ākhirati fa-ulāika fī l-ʿadhābi muḥ'ḍarūn

فَسُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ حِینَ تُمۡسُونَ وَحِینَ تُصۡبِحُونَ ۝١٧

So glorify God as you enter into the evenings and as you enter into the mornings-

fasub'ḥāna l-lahi ḥīna tum'sūna waḥīna tuṣ'biḥūn

وَلَهُ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَعَشِیࣰّا وَحِینَ تُظۡهِرُونَ ۝١٨

for to God belongs all praise in the heavens and the earth- and at dusk and noontide.

walahu l-ḥamdu fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi waʿashiyyan waḥīna tuẓ'hirūn

یُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡحَیَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمَیِّتِ وَیُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡمَیِّتَ مِنَ ٱلۡحَیِّ وَیُحۡیِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَاۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ تُخۡرَجُونَ ۝١٩

God brings forth the living from the . dead, and brings forth the dead from the living; and God enlivens the earth after its death: and so will you all be brought forth.

yukh'riju l-ḥaya mina l-mayiti wayukh'riju l-mayita mina l-ḥayi wayuḥ'yī l-arḍa baʿda mawtihā wakadhālika tukh'rajūn

3 Manifestation of Divine Power in Nature

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤ أَنۡ خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابࣲ ثُمَّ إِذَاۤ أَنتُم بَشَرࣱ تَنتَشِرُونَ ۝٢٠

And among the signs of God is creating you all from dust; and there you are, humankind, propagating widely.

wamin āyātihi an khalaqakum min turābin thumma idhā antum basharun tantashirūn

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤ أَنۡ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنۡ أَنفُسِكُمۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا لِّتَسۡكُنُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهَا وَجَعَلَ بَیۡنَكُم مَّوَدَّةࣰ وَرَحۡمَةًۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝٢١

And among the signs of God is having created for you mates from yourselves that you may feel at home with them, and God put love and kindness among you. Surely in that is a sign for a reflective people.

wamin āyātihi an khalaqa lakum min anfusikum azwājan litaskunū ilayhā wajaʿala baynakum mawaddatan waraḥmatan inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yatafakkarūn

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦ خَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱخۡتِلَـٰفُ أَلۡسِنَتِكُمۡ وَأَلۡوَ ٰنِكُمۡۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّلۡعَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٢٢

And among the signs of od is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your complexions. Surely in that is a sign for the knowing.

wamin āyātihi khalqu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wa-ikh'tilāfu alsinatikum wa-alwānikum inna fī dhālika laāyātin lil'ʿālimīn

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦ مَنَامُكُم بِٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَٱبۡتِغَاۤؤُكُم مِّن فَضۡلِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٢٣

And among the signs of God is your sleep by night and by day, and your seeking from the bounty of God. Surely in that is a sign for a people who hear.

wamin āyātihi manāmukum bi-al-layli wal-nahāri wa-ib'tighāukum min faḍlihi inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yasmaʿūn

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦ یُرِیكُمُ ٱلۡبَرۡقَ خَوۡفࣰا وَطَمَعࣰا وَیُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَیُحۡیِۦ بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَاۤۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٢٤

And among the signs of God is showing you lightning, occasion for fear and for hope; and God sends water down from the sky. enlivening the earth after it has died. Surely in that is a sign for an intelligent people.

wamin āyātihi yurīkumu l-barqa khawfan waṭamaʿan wayunazzilu mina l-samāi māan fayuḥ'yī bihi l-arḍa baʿda mawtihā inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yaʿqilūn

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤ أَن تَقُومَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۚ ثُمَّ إِذَا دَعَاكُمۡ دَعۡوَةࣰ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِذَاۤ أَنتُمۡ تَخۡرُجُونَ ۝٢٥

And among the signs of God is that sky and earth stand by divine decree. Then when God calls you with a call from earth, you will all come forth.

wamin āyātihi an taqūma l-samāu wal-arḍu bi-amrihi thumma idhā daʿākum daʿwatan mina l-arḍi idhā antum takhrujūn

وَلَهُۥ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ كُلࣱّ لَّهُۥ قَـٰنِتُونَ ۝٢٦

To God belongs everyone in the heavens and the earth: all are obedient to God.

walahu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi kullun lahu qānitūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی یَبۡدَؤُا۟ ٱلۡخَلۡقَ ثُمَّ یُعِیدُهُۥ وَهُوَ أَهۡوَنُ عَلَیۡهِۚ وَلَهُ ٱلۡمَثَلُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٢٧

And God it is who begins creation, then repeats it: and that is supremely easy for God. And to God refers the highest ideal in the heavens and the earth: and God is almighty, most wise.

wahuwa alladhī yabda-u l-khalqa thumma yuʿīduhu wahuwa ahwanu ʿalayhi walahu l-mathalu l-aʿlā fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

4 Appeal to Human Nature

ضَرَبَ لَكُم مَّثَلࣰا مِّنۡ أَنفُسِكُمۡۖ هَل لَّكُم مِّن مَّا مَلَكَتۡ أَیۡمَـٰنُكُم مِّن شُرَكَاۤءَ فِی مَا رَزَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ فَأَنتُمۡ فِیهِ سَوَاۤءࣱ تَخَافُونَهُمۡ كَخِیفَتِكُمۡ أَنفُسَكُمۡۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٢٨

God gives you an example from your own realm: have you slaves who are partners in what We have provided for you. and you are equals in it, you fearing them as you fear yourselves? Thus do we explain the signs to an understanding people.

ḍaraba lakum mathalan min anfusikum hal lakum min mā malakat aymānukum min shurakāa fī mā razaqnākum fa-antum fīhi sawāon takhāfūnahum kakhīfatikum anfusakum kadhālika nufaṣṣilu l-āyāti liqawmin yaʿqilūn

بَلِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوۤا۟ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُم بِغَیۡرِ عِلۡمࣲۖ فَمَن یَهۡدِی مَنۡ أَضَلَّ ٱللَّهُۖ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِینَ ۝٢٩

No, those who do wrong follow their own desires without knowledge. Then who guides those whom God has led astray? There are no helpers for them.

bali ittabaʿa alladhīna ẓalamū ahwāahum bighayri ʿil'min faman yahdī man aḍalla l-lahu wamā lahum min nāṣirīn

فَأَقِمۡ وَجۡهَكَ لِلدِّینِ حَنِیفࣰاۚ فِطۡرَتَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِی فَطَرَ ٱلنَّاسَ عَلَیۡهَاۚ لَا تَبۡدِیلَ لِخَلۡقِ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلدِّینُ ٱلۡقَیِّمُ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٠

So turn your being to religion in sincere devotion by God-given nature, according to which God created humanity. There is no changing the nature created by God. That is the right religion, but most of humanity does not know.

fa-aqim wajhaka lilddīni ḥanīfan fiṭ'rata l-lahi allatī faṭara l-nāsa ʿalayhā lā tabdīla likhalqi l-lahi dhālika l-dīnu l-qayimu walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn

۞ مُنِیبِینَ إِلَیۡهِ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝٣١

Turning to God repentant, be conscientious and prayerful, and do not be idolators,

munībīna ilayhi wa-ittaqūhu wa-aqīmū l-ṣalata walā takūnū mina l-mush'rikīn

مِنَ ٱلَّذِینَ فَرَّقُوا۟ دِینَهُمۡ وَكَانُوا۟ شِیَعࣰاۖ كُلُّ حِزۡبِۭ بِمَا لَدَیۡهِمۡ فَرِحُونَ ۝٣٢

those who sp1inter their religion and have hecon1e sectarian, each party delighting in what they have.

mina alladhīna farraqū dīnahum wakānū shiyaʿan kullu ḥiz'bin bimā ladayhim fariḥūn

وَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلنَّاسَ ضُرࣱّ دَعَوۡا۟ رَبَّهُم مُّنِیبِینَ إِلَیۡهِ ثُمَّ إِذَاۤ أَذَاقَهُم مِّنۡهُ رَحۡمَةً إِذَا فَرِیقࣱ مِّنۡهُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٣٣

And when affliction touches people, they cry to their Lord, turning repentant to God. Then when God has made them taste of mercy from the Divine, some of them attribute partners to their Lord,

wa-idhā massa l-nāsa ḍurrun daʿaw rabbahum munībīna ilayhi thumma idhā adhāqahum min'hu raḥmatan idhā farīqun min'hum birabbihim yush'rikūn

لِیَكۡفُرُوا۟ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمۡۚ فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ فَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٤

so that they are ungrateful for what We have given them. Enjoy, then, for you will soon know.

liyakfurū bimā ātaynāhum fatamattaʿū fasawfa taʿlamūn

أَمۡ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنࣰا فَهُوَ یَتَكَلَّمُ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٣٥

Have We sent down to them an authority who speaks of what they have idolized?

am anzalnā ʿalayhim sul'ṭānan fahuwa yatakallamu bimā kānū bihi yush'rikūn

وَإِذَاۤ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلنَّاسَ رَحۡمَةࣰ فَرِحُوا۟ بِهَاۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَیِّئَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ إِذَا هُمۡ یَقۡنَطُونَ ۝٣٦

And when We have people taste mercy, they rejoice in it; but if ill befalls them for what their own hands have brought on, then they despair.

wa-idhā adhaqnā l-nāsa raḥmatan fariḥū bihā wa-in tuṣib'hum sayyi-atun bimā qaddamat aydīhim idhā hum yaqnaṭūn

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَقۡدِرُۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٣٧

Do they not see that God expands and restricts the provision of whomever God will? Surely in that is a sign for a people who believe.

awalam yaraw anna l-laha yabsuṭu l-riz'qa liman yashāu wayaqdiru inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yu'minūn

فَءَاتِ ذَا ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَٱلۡمِسۡكِینَ وَٱبۡنَ ٱلسَّبِیلِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ خَیۡرࣱ لِّلَّذِینَ یُرِیدُونَ وَجۡهَ ٱللَّهِۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٣٨

So give their right to kin and the poor and the wayfarer: that is best for those who seek the presence and favor of God; and they are the ones who thrive.

faāti dhā l-qur'bā ḥaqqahu wal-mis'kīna wa-ib'na l-sabīli dhālika khayrun lilladhīna yurīdūna wajha l-lahi wa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

وَمَاۤ ءَاتَیۡتُم مِّن رِّبࣰا لِّیَرۡبُوَا۟ فِیۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلِ ٱلنَّاسِ فَلَا یَرۡبُوا۟ عِندَ ٱللَّهِۖ وَمَاۤ ءَاتَیۡتُم مِّن زَكَوٰةࣲ تُرِیدُونَ وَجۡهَ ٱللَّهِ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُضۡعِفُونَ ۝٣٩

Whatever you give from excess profit that it may grow even more invested in people's wealth does not increase with God; but what you give in charity seeking the presence and favor of God is what will be compounded.

wamā ātaytum min riban liyarbuwā fī amwāli l-nāsi falā yarbū ʿinda l-lahi wamā ātaytum min zakatin turīdūna wajha l-lahi fa-ulāika humu l-muḍ'ʿifūn

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُمۡ ثُمَّ رَزَقَكُمۡ ثُمَّ یُمِیتُكُمۡ ثُمَّ یُحۡیِیكُمۡۖ هَلۡ مِن شُرَكَاۤىِٕكُم مَّن یَفۡعَلُ مِن ذَ ٰلِكُم مِّن شَیۡءࣲۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٤٠

God is the one who created you all. then provided you sustenance, then will cause you to die, then will bring you to life. Are there an1ong your idols any who can do aught of that? Glory to God, exalted beyond any association.

al-lahu alladhī khalaqakum thumma razaqakum thumma yumītukum thumma yuḥ'yīkum hal min shurakāikum man yafʿalu min dhālikum min shayin sub'ḥānahu wataʿālā ʿammā yush'rikūn

5 A Transformation

ظَهَرَ ٱلۡفَسَادُ فِی ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ أَیۡدِی ٱلنَّاسِ لِیُذِیقَهُم بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِی عَمِلُوا۟ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٤١

Corruption has appeared on land and on sea because of what human hands have earned to make them taste some of what they did, that they may turn back.

ẓahara l-fasādu fī l-bari wal-baḥri bimā kasabat aydī l-nāsi liyudhīqahum baʿḍa alladhī ʿamilū laʿallahum yarjiʿūn

قُلۡ سِیرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلُۚ كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّشۡرِكِینَ ۝٤٢

Say, "Travel the earth and see how those before you ended up: most of them were idolatrous.â€

qul sīrū fī l-arḍi fa-unẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu alladhīna min qablu kāna aktharuhum mush'rikīn

فَأَقِمۡ وَجۡهَكَ لِلدِّینِ ٱلۡقَیِّمِ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن یَأۡتِیَ یَوۡمࣱ لَّا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥ مِنَ ٱللَّهِۖ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ یَصَّدَّعُونَ ۝٤٣

So direct your being to the right religion before there comes a day from God that cannot be averted: on that day they'll be divided.

fa-aqim wajhaka lilddīni l-qayimi min qabli an yatiya yawmun lā maradda lahu mina l-lahi yawma-idhin yaṣṣaddaʿūn

مَن كَفَرَ فَعَلَیۡهِ كُفۡرُهُۥۖ وَمَنۡ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا فَلِأَنفُسِهِمۡ یَمۡهَدُونَ ۝٤٤

Those who were ungrateful bear responsibility for their ingratitude; while those who do good works prepare for the repose of their own souls,

man kafara faʿalayhi kuf'ruhu waman ʿamila ṣāliḥan fali-anfusihim yamhadūn

لِیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٤٥

that God may requite from the bounty divine those who have faith and do good works. Surely God does not love the ungrateful who disbelieve.

liyajziya alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti min faḍlihi innahu lā yuḥibbu l-kāfirīn

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤ أَن یُرۡسِلَ ٱلرِّیَاحَ مُبَشِّرَ ٰتࣲ وَلِیُذِیقَكُم مِّن رَّحۡمَتِهِۦ وَلِتَجۡرِیَ ٱلۡفُلۡكُ بِأَمۡرِهِۦ وَلِتَبۡتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٤٦

And among the signs of God is that the winds are sent as bearers of glad tidings and to have you taste of the mercy divine; and that the ships may sail by divine decree, and that you may all seek from the bounty of God, and that you may be thankful.

wamin āyātihi an yur'sila l-riyāḥa mubashirātin waliyudhīqakum min raḥmatihi walitajriya l-ful'ku bi-amrihi walitabtaghū min faḍlihi walaʿallakum tashkurūn

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ رُسُلًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِمۡ فَجَاۤءُوهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَجۡرَمُوا۟ۖ وَكَانَ حَقًّا عَلَیۡنَا نَصۡرُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٤٧

And We have indeed sent before you Envoys to their people, who brought them clarifications; then We took revenge on those who committed crimes. And it was incumbent upon us to help the faithful believers.

walaqad arsalnā min qablika rusulan ilā qawmihim fajāūhum bil-bayināti fa-intaqamnā mina alladhīna ajramū wakāna ḥaqqan ʿalaynā naṣru l-mu'minīn

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی یُرۡسِلُ ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ فَتُثِیرُ سَحَابࣰا فَیَبۡسُطُهُۥ فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ كَیۡفَ یَشَاۤءُ وَیَجۡعَلُهُۥ كِسَفࣰا فَتَرَى ٱلۡوَدۡقَ یَخۡرُجُ مِنۡ خِلَـٰلِهِۦۖ فَإِذَاۤ أَصَابَ بِهِۦ مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۤ إِذَا هُمۡ یَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ ۝٤٨

God is the one who sends the winds that stir up a cloud, and God spreads it in the sky. according to divine will, and makes it into pieces, and you see the rain issuing from within it. And it is showered on whomever God will from among the servants of God: then they welcome it,

al-lahu alladhī yur'silu l-riyāḥa fatuthīru saḥāban fayabsuṭuhu fī l-samāi kayfa yashāu wayajʿaluhu kisafan fatarā l-wadqa yakhruju min khilālihi fa-idhā aṣāba bihi man yashāu min ʿibādihi idhā hum yastabshirūn

وَإِن كَانُوا۟ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن یُنَزَّلَ عَلَیۡهِم مِّن قَبۡلِهِۦ لَمُبۡلِسِینَ ۝٤٩

though earlier on, before it was sent down upon them, they were indeed in despair.

wa-in kānū min qabli an yunazzala ʿalayhim min qablihi lamub'lisīn

فَٱنظُرۡ إِلَىٰۤ ءَاثَـٰرِ رَحۡمَتِ ٱللَّهِ كَیۡفَ یُحۡیِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَاۤۚ إِنَّ ذَ ٰلِكَ لَمُحۡیِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣱ ۝٥٠

So look at the traces of the mercy of God, how it enlivens the earth after her death. Indeed, God is the lifegiver to the dead; and God has power over all things.

fa-unẓur ilā āthāri raḥmati l-lahi kayfa yuḥ'yī l-arḍa baʿda mawtihā inna dhālika lamuḥ'yī l-mawtā wahuwa ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

وَلَىِٕنۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رِیحࣰا فَرَأَوۡهُ مُصۡفَرࣰّا لَّظَلُّوا۟ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ یَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٥١

And if We sent a wind and they saw it yellowing, they would thereafter surely become ungrateful.

wala-in arsalnā rīḥan fara-awhu muṣ'farran laẓallū min baʿdihi yakfurūn

فَإِنَّكَ لَا تُسۡمِعُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَلَا تُسۡمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ ٱلدُّعَاۤءَ إِذَا وَلَّوۡا۟ مُدۡبِرِینَ ۝٥٢

So in fact you cannot cause the dead to hear, nor can you cause the deaf to hear the call when they have turned their backs.

fa-innaka lā tus'miʿu l-mawtā walā tus'miʿu l-ṣuma l-duʿāa idhā wallaw mud'birīn

وَمَاۤ أَنتَ بِهَـٰدِ ٱلۡعُمۡیِ عَن ضَلَـٰلَتِهِمۡۖ إِن تُسۡمِعُ إِلَّا مَن یُؤۡمِنُ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا فَهُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ ۝٥٣

And you are not the guide of the blind out of their error; you cannot make anyone hear but those who believe in Our signs and have submitted.

wamā anta bihādi l-ʿum'yi ʿan ḍalālatihim in tus'miʿu illā man yu'minu biāyātinā fahum mus'limūn

6 Overthrow of Opposition

۞ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُم مِّن ضَعۡفࣲ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ضَعۡفࣲ قُوَّةࣰ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ قُوَّةࣲ ضَعۡفࣰا وَشَیۡبَةࣰۚ یَخۡلُقُ مَا یَشَاۤءُۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ٱلۡقَدِیرُ ۝٥٤

God is the one who created you all weak, then gave strength after weakness, then gave weakness and old age after strength. God creates whatever God will; and God is all-knowing, all-powerful.

al-lahu alladhī khalaqakum min ḍaʿfin thumma jaʿala min baʿdi ḍaʿfin quwwatan thumma jaʿala min baʿdi quwwatin ḍaʿfan washaybatan yakhluqu mā yashāu wahuwa l-ʿalīmu l-qadīr

وَیَوۡمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ یُقۡسِمُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ مَا لَبِثُوا۟ غَیۡرَ سَاعَةࣲۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ كَانُوا۟ یُؤۡفَكُونَ ۝٥٥

And on the day the hour arrives the guilty will swear they only lingered a while; that is how deluded they were.

wayawma taqūmu l-sāʿatu yuq'simu l-muj'rimūna mā labithū ghayra sāʿatin kadhālika kānū yu'fakūn

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلۡعِلۡمَ وَٱلۡإِیمَـٰنَ لَقَدۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡ فِی كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡبَعۡثِۖ فَهَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلۡبَعۡثِ وَلَـٰكِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٥٦

And those to whom was given knowledge and faith will say, â€œIn fact you lingered, according to the Book of God, until the day of resurrection. And this is the day of resurrection, although you have not perceived."

waqāla alladhīna ūtū l-ʿil'ma wal-īmāna laqad labith'tum fī kitābi l-lahi ilā yawmi l-baʿthi fahādhā yawmu l-baʿthi walākinnakum kuntum lā taʿlamūn

فَیَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لَّا یَنفَعُ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مَعۡذِرَتُهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یُسۡتَعۡتَبُونَ ۝٥٧

So on that day the excuse of wrongdoers will not be of use to them, and no reconciliation is possible for them.

fayawma-idhin lā yanfaʿu alladhīna ẓalamū maʿdhiratuhum walā hum yus'taʿtabūn

وَلَقَدۡ ضَرَبۡنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِی هَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلࣲۚ وَلَىِٕن جِئۡتَهُم بِءَایَةࣲ لَّیَقُولَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا مُبۡطِلُونَ ۝٥٨

And We have set forth every ideal for humankind in this Recital: but if you brought a verse to ingrates who disbelieve, they would surely say, "'You are nothing but liars!"

walaqad ḍarabnā lilnnāsi fī hādhā l-qur'āni min kulli mathalin wala-in ji'tahum biāyatin layaqūlanna alladhīna kafarū in antum illā mub'ṭilūn

كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَطۡبَعُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٥٩

Thus does God stamp the hearts of those who do not know.

kadhālika yaṭbaʿu l-lahu ʿalā qulūbi alladhīna lā yaʿlamūn

فَٱصۡبِرۡ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقࣱّۖ وَلَا یَسۡتَخِفَّنَّكَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُوقِنُونَ ۝٦٠

So be patient, for the promise of God is true. And let those who are uncertain not divert you at all.

fa-iṣ'bir inna waʿda l-lahi ḥaqqun walā yastakhiffannaka alladhīna lā yūqinūn
