1 Spiritual and Physical Relationship

۞ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ ٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ وَٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِینَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِیمًا حَكِیمࣰا ۝١

O you An-Nabi (The Prophet)! Pay obedience to Allah and obey not the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Verily, Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu ittaqi l-laha walā tuṭiʿi l-kāfirīna wal-munāfiqīna inna l-laha kāna ʿalīman ḥakīma

وَٱتَّبِعۡ مَا یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِیرࣰا ۝٢

And adopt what is inspired to you from your Nourisher-Sustainer. Surely, Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do

wa-ittabiʿ mā yūḥā ilayka min rabbika inna l-laha kāna bimā taʿmalūna khabīra

وَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِیلࣰا ۝٣

And put your trust in Allah; and it became sufficient with Allah to be a Wakil

watawakkal ʿalā l-lahi wakafā bil-lahi wakīla

مَّا جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِرَجُلࣲ مِّن قَلۡبَیۡنِ فِی جَوۡفِهِۦۚ وَمَا جَعَلَ أَزۡوَ ٰجَكُمُ ٱلَّـٰۤءِی تُظَـٰهِرُونَ مِنۡهُنَّ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمۡۚ وَمَا جَعَلَ أَدۡعِیَاۤءَكُمۡ أَبۡنَاۤءَكُمۡۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ قَوۡلُكُم بِأَفۡوَ ٰهِكُمۡۖ وَٱللَّهُ یَقُولُ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَهُوَ یَهۡدِی ٱلسَّبِیلَ ۝٤

Allah has not placed for any man two hearts inside his thorax; and He has not made your wives as your mothers whom: unto whom you utter ‘Az-Zihar’ [the ‘game of backs’ (i.e., you call their backs as the backs of your mothers and then discontinue marital relations with them)]. And He has not regarded your adopted ones (or your called-ones) as your (real) sons. This, for you, is your own statement emitted by your mouths, while Allah gives the True statement and He guides to the (Permanent) Path

mā jaʿala l-lahu lirajulin min qalbayni fī jawfihi wamā jaʿala azwājakumu allāī tuẓāhirūna min'hunna ummahātikum wamā jaʿala adʿiyāakum abnāakum dhālikum qawlukum bi-afwāhikum wal-lahu yaqūlu l-ḥaqa wahuwa yahdī l-sabīl

ٱدۡعُوهُمۡ لِءَابَاۤىِٕهِمۡ هُوَ أَقۡسَطُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِۚ فَإِن لَّمۡ تَعۡلَمُوۤا۟ ءَابَاۤءَهُمۡ فَإِخۡوَ ٰنُكُمۡ فِی ٱلدِّینِ وَمَوَ ٰلِیكُمۡۚ وَلَیۡسَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ جُنَاحࣱ فِیمَاۤ أَخۡطَأۡتُم بِهِۦ وَلَـٰكِن مَّا تَعَمَّدَتۡ قُلُوبُكُمۡۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣰا رَّحِیمًا ۝٥

Call those (adopted sons) relating them to their (actual) fathers, that is more just in the Sight of Allah. But in case you do not know their fathers (or their names), then (call them) your brothers in Faith and Mawaleekum (those under your custodianship and protection). And there is (counted) no sin against you in what you made a mistake therein, but (it would be a sin) what your hearts deliberately attempted. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, continuously Merciful (and Forgives what is past and is not repeated)

id'ʿūhum liābāihim huwa aqsaṭu ʿinda l-lahi fa-in lam taʿlamū ābāahum fa-ikh'wānukum fī l-dīni wamawālīkum walaysa ʿalaykum junāḥun fīmā akhṭatum bihi walākin mā taʿammadat qulūbukum wakāna l-lahu ghafūran raḥīma

ٱلنَّبِیُّ أَوۡلَىٰ بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ مِنۡ أَنفُسِهِمۡۖ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجُهُۥۤ أُمَّهَـٰتُهُمۡۗ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَرۡحَامِ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلَىٰ بِبَعۡضࣲ فِی كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِینَ إِلَّاۤ أَن تَفۡعَلُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰۤ أَوۡلِیَاۤىِٕكُم مَّعۡرُوفࣰاۚ كَانَ ذَ ٰلِكَ فِی ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ مَسۡطُورࣰا ۝٦

An-Nabi is closer to the Believers than their ownselves, and his wives are (like) mothers to them (as regards respect and marriage). And the possessors of (the links through) the wombs (i.e., blood-relations): some of them are closer (in personal ties) to some in Kitabullah [Book of Allah (regarding the heirship in inheritance)] than (the brotherhood of) the Believers and Al-Muhajirun (those who, become emigrants in the cause of Allah) — except that you do kindness in some desirable way to those in friendly bonds to you. This became written in Al-Kitab

al-nabiyu awlā bil-mu'minīna min anfusihim wa-azwājuhu ummahātuhum wa-ulū l-arḥāmi baʿḍuhum awlā bibaʿḍin fī kitābi l-lahi mina l-mu'minīna wal-muhājirīna illā an tafʿalū ilā awliyāikum maʿrūfan kāna dhālika fī l-kitābi masṭūra

وَإِذۡ أَخَذۡنَا مِنَ ٱلنَّبِیِّـۧنَ مِیثَـٰقَهُمۡ وَمِنكَ وَمِن نُّوحࣲ وَإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِیسَى ٱبۡنِ مَرۡیَمَۖ وَأَخَذۡنَا مِنۡهُم مِّیثَـٰقًا غَلِیظࣰا ۝٧

And (remember) when We took from An-Nabiyyin (The Prophets) their covenant, and from you, and from Nuh, and Ibrahim, and Musa and, Iesa,son of Maryam. And We obtained from them a binding covenant

wa-idh akhadhnā mina l-nabiyīna mīthāqahum waminka wamin nūḥin wa-ib'rāhīma wamūsā waʿīsā ib'ni maryama wa-akhadhnā min'hum mīthāqan ghalīẓa

لِّیَسۡءَلَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ عَن صِدۡقِهِمۡۚ وَأَعَدَّ لِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ عَذَابًا أَلِیمࣰا ۝٨

so that He may ask the Truthfuls (Allah’s Prophets and Messengers) about their truth (i.e., , the extent of their sincerity and efforts in preaching the Message of Allah). And He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful torment

liyasala l-ṣādiqīna ʿan ṣid'qihim wa-aʿadda lil'kāfirīna ʿadhāban alīma

2 Allies' Attack on Madinah

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱذۡكُرُوا۟ نِعۡمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡكُمۡ إِذۡ جَاۤءَتۡكُمۡ جُنُودࣱ فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ رِیحࣰا وَجُنُودࣰا لَّمۡ تَرَوۡهَاۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرًا ۝٩

O you who have Believed! Remind yourself about the Favour and Grace of Allah over you people when the (enemical) forces came against you; and We sent against them the wind (in fury) and forces that you saw not (physically). And Allah is (Ever) All-Seer of what you do

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū udh'kurū niʿ'mata l-lahi ʿalaykum idh jāatkum junūdun fa-arsalnā ʿalayhim rīḥan wajunūdan lam tarawhā wakāna l-lahu bimā taʿmalūna baṣīra

إِذۡ جَاۤءُوكُم مِّن فَوۡقِكُمۡ وَمِنۡ أَسۡفَلَ مِنكُمۡ وَإِذۡ زَاغَتِ ٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرُ وَبَلَغَتِ ٱلۡقُلُوبُ ٱلۡحَنَاجِرَ وَتَظُنُّونَ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلظُّنُونَا۠ ۝١٠

When these (enemy-forces) came upon you from above you and from (a level) lower down than you, and when the eyes became wide open (not normally blinhead of state) and the hearts reached the throats (mahead of state you feel your heart-beats at the initial part of the neck, — a sign of extreme fear, anxiety and apprehensions), and you people were harbouring doubts about Allah

idh jāūkum min fawqikum wamin asfala minkum wa-idh zāghati l-abṣāru wabalaghati l-qulūbu l-ḥanājira wataẓunnūna bil-lahi l-ẓunūn

هُنَالِكَ ٱبۡتُلِیَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ وَزُلۡزِلُوا۟ زِلۡزَالࣰا شَدِیدࣰا ۝١١

Then and there the Believers were made to pass through a test and they were shaken to a violent shahead of state

hunālika ub'tuliya l-mu'minūna wazul'zilū zil'zālan shadīda

وَإِذۡ یَقُولُ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضࣱ مَّا وَعَدَنَا ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥۤ إِلَّا غُرُورࣰا ۝١٢

And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts (was) a disease say: “Allah and His Messenger promised us not but (only) delusion.”

wa-idh yaqūlu l-munāfiqūna wa-alladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun mā waʿadanā l-lahu warasūluhu illā ghurūra

وَإِذۡ قَالَت طَّاۤىِٕفَةࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ یَـٰۤأَهۡلَ یَثۡرِبَ لَا مُقَامَ لَكُمۡ فَٱرۡجِعُوا۟ۚ وَیَسۡتَءۡذِنُ فَرِیقࣱ مِّنۡهُمُ ٱلنَّبِیَّ یَقُولُونَ إِنَّ بُیُوتَنَا عَوۡرَةࣱ وَمَا هِیَ بِعَوۡرَةٍۖ إِن یُرِیدُونَ إِلَّا فِرَارࣰا ۝١٣

And when a group from amongst them said: “O residents of Yathrib! There is no position for you (to fight or win), therefore go back (in retreat).” And a band of them asks An-Nabi for permission (to leave the battle field). They say: 'Our houses lie unprotected and exposed,' although they lay not open and exposed. Intend they not but (only) running away (from the encounter)

wa-idh qālat ṭāifatun min'hum yāahla yathriba lā muqāma lakum fa-ir'jiʿū wayastadhinu farīqun min'humu l-nabiya yaqūlūna inna buyūtanā ʿawratun wamā hiya biʿawratin in yurīdūna illā firāra

وَلَوۡ دُخِلَتۡ عَلَیۡهِم مِّنۡ أَقۡطَارِهَا ثُمَّ سُىِٕلُوا۟ ٱلۡفِتۡنَةَ لَءَاتَوۡهَا وَمَا تَلَبَّثُوا۟ بِهَاۤ إِلَّا یَسِیرࣰا ۝١٤

And if the enemy was made to penetrate them from environs of that (city-area), and they had been incited to Al-Fitnah (disruption and treachery) they would have committed it, and would not have hesitated for it except a minority

walaw dukhilat ʿalayhim min aqṭārihā thumma su-ilū l-fit'nata laātawhā wamā talabbathū bihā illā yasīra

وَلَقَدۡ كَانُوا۟ عَـٰهَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن قَبۡلُ لَا یُوَلُّونَ ٱلۡأَدۡبَـٰرَۚ وَكَانَ عَهۡدُ ٱللَّهِ مَسۡءُولࣰا ۝١٥

And surely, indeed they had been giving covenant to Allah since before that they will not turn (their) backs, and a covenant made with is a questioned one (i.e., , it will have to be accounted for)

walaqad kānū ʿāhadū l-laha min qablu lā yuwallūna l-adbāra wakāna ʿahdu l-lahi masūla

قُل لَّن یَنفَعَكُمُ ٱلۡفِرَارُ إِن فَرَرۡتُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ أَوِ ٱلۡقَتۡلِ وَإِذࣰا لَّا تُمَتَّعُونَ إِلَّا قَلِیلࣰا ۝١٦

Say: “Flight (from battle-ground) will not benefit you if you fled (out of fear of impending) death or killing, and then you will not enjoy except a little period (that you may stay in this world).”

qul lan yanfaʿakumu l-firāru in farartum mina l-mawti awi l-qatli wa-idhan lā tumattaʿūna illā qalīla

قُلۡ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِی یَعۡصِمُكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ إِنۡ أَرَادَ بِكُمۡ سُوۤءًا أَوۡ أَرَادَ بِكُمۡ رَحۡمَةࣰۚ وَلَا یَجِدُونَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِیࣰّا وَلَا نَصِیرࣰا ۝١٧

Say: “Who is that one who will protect you against Allah if He intended for you (some) harm, or He intended for you mercy?" And they will not find for themselves, besides Allah any wali, and nor a helper

qul man dhā alladhī yaʿṣimukum mina l-lahi in arāda bikum sūan aw arāda bikum raḥmatan walā yajidūna lahum min dūni l-lahi waliyyan walā naṣīra

۞ قَدۡ یَعۡلَمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُعَوِّقِینَ مِنكُمۡ وَٱلۡقَاۤىِٕلِینَ لِإِخۡوَ ٰنِهِمۡ هَلُمَّ إِلَیۡنَاۖ وَلَا یَأۡتُونَ ٱلۡبَأۡسَ إِلَّا قَلِیلًا ۝١٨

Definitely, Allah knows those among you who obstruct (men from fighting on the side of the Muslims), and (also) those who say to their fellow men:'come here to us' (and stay away from armed encounter), and they themselves do not enter the war except very little

qad yaʿlamu l-lahu l-muʿawiqīna minkum wal-qāilīna li-ikh'wānihim halumma ilaynā walā yatūna l-basa illā qalīla

أَشِحَّةً عَلَیۡكُمۡۖ فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ ٱلۡخَوۡفُ رَأَیۡتَهُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَیۡكَ تَدُورُ أَعۡیُنُهُمۡ كَٱلَّذِی یُغۡشَىٰ عَلَیۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۖ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ ٱلۡخَوۡفُ سَلَقُوكُم بِأَلۡسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍۙ أَشِحَّةً عَلَى ٱلۡخَیۡرِۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَمۡ یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ فَأَحۡبَطَ ٱللَّهُ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡۚ وَكَانَ ذَ ٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ یَسِیرࣰا ۝١٩

(Thus they prove themselves to be) more greedy against you. Then when fear overwhelmed, you saw them: they look at you, their eyes revolve hither and thither like someone on whom death has been set hovering. But when the fear departed, they smote you with sharp tongues being more greedy for wealth (expected out of the spoils of war). Those people have not developed Faith, so Allah made their deeds and actions to go waste, and that is very easy for Allah

ashiḥḥatan ʿalaykum fa-idhā jāa l-khawfu ra-aytahum yanẓurūna ilayka tadūru aʿyunuhum ka-alladhī yugh'shā ʿalayhi mina l-mawti fa-idhā dhahaba l-khawfu salaqūkum bi-alsinatin ḥidādin ashiḥḥatan ʿalā l-khayri ulāika lam yu'minū fa-aḥbaṭa l-lahu aʿmālahum wakāna dhālika ʿalā l-lahi yasīra

یَحۡسَبُونَ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابَ لَمۡ یَذۡهَبُوا۟ۖ وَإِن یَأۡتِ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابُ یَوَدُّوا۟ لَوۡ أَنَّهُم بَادُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ یَسۡءَلُونَ عَنۡ أَنۢبَاۤىِٕكُمۡۖ وَلَوۡ كَانُوا۟ فِیكُم مَّا قَـٰتَلُوۤا۟ إِلَّا قَلِیلࣰا ۝٢٠

They think that Al-Ahzab [the allied forces (jointly set by all the groups enemical to Islam)] have not yet withdrawn. And if the allied forces assault again, they would wish, perchance they were wandering in the deserts among the bedouins. They would seek news about you (Muslims), and if they happened to be amongst you, they would not fight except very little

yaḥsabūna l-aḥzāba lam yadhhabū wa-in yati l-aḥzābu yawaddū law annahum bādūna fī l-aʿrābi yasalūna ʿan anbāikum walaw kānū fīkum mā qātalū illā qalīla

3 Allies' Flight: Quraizah punished

لَّقَدۡ كَانَ لَكُمۡ فِی رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسۡوَةٌ حَسَنَةࣱ لِّمَن كَانَ یَرۡجُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلۡیَوۡمَ ٱلۡءَاخِرَ وَذَكَرَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِیرࣰا ۝٢١

Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah became an excellent pattern of life for you — for (every) one who used to have hope in Allah and the Last Day and propagated Allah exceedingly

laqad kāna lakum fī rasūli l-lahi us'watun ḥasanatun liman kāna yarjū l-laha wal-yawma l-ākhira wadhakara l-laha kathīra

وَلَمَّا رَءَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابَ قَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَا مَا وَعَدَنَا ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَصَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥۚ وَمَا زَادَهُمۡ إِلَّاۤ إِیمَـٰنࣰا وَتَسۡلِیمࣰا ۝٢٢

And when the True Believers watched Al-Ahzab (the allied forces), they said: “This is what Allah and His Messenger promised us, and Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth. And it (i.e., the scene of the aggressive enemy approaching) did not increase them (in any fear or apprehension) but in Faith and submissiveness

walammā raā l-mu'minūna l-aḥzāba qālū hādhā mā waʿadanā l-lahu warasūluhu waṣadaqa l-lahu warasūluhu wamā zādahum illā īmānan wataslīma

مِّنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ رِجَالࣱ صَدَقُوا۟ مَا عَـٰهَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عَلَیۡهِۖ فَمِنۡهُم مَّن قَضَىٰ نَحۡبَهُۥ وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَنتَظِرُۖ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا۟ تَبۡدِیلࣰا ۝٢٣

Among the Believers are men who remained true wherewith they made a covenant with Allah. So of them is that who fulfilled his obligation, and of them (is) one who awaits (of a chance of giving a direct fight to the disbelievers or getting martyred in the encounter). And they did not change (to any undesirable) change-over

mina l-mu'minīna rijālun ṣadaqū mā ʿāhadū l-laha ʿalayhi famin'hum man qaḍā naḥbahu wamin'hum man yantaẓiru wamā baddalū tabdīla

لِّیَجۡزِیَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ بِصِدۡقِهِمۡ وَیُعَذِّبَ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِینَ إِن شَاۤءَ أَوۡ یَتُوبَ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورࣰا رَّحِیمࣰا ۝٢٤

so that Allah may reward the men of truth for their truth and may submit to punishment the hypocrites if He so desired; or He may turn to them (in mercy and accept their repentance). Surely, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, continuously Merciful

liyajziya l-lahu l-ṣādiqīna biṣid'qihim wayuʿadhiba l-munāfiqīna in shāa aw yatūba ʿalayhim inna l-laha kāna ghafūran raḥīma

وَرَدَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِغَیۡظِهِمۡ لَمۡ یَنَالُوا۟ خَیۡرࣰاۚ وَكَفَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ٱلۡقِتَالَۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ قَوِیًّا عَزِیزࣰا ۝٢٥

And Allah pushed back those who disbelieved out of their rage (against Islam); they gained not any good (neither a chance of getting martyred, nor returning as a successful fighter). And Allah sufficed for the Believers in Qital. And Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty

waradda l-lahu alladhīna kafarū bighayẓihim lam yanālū khayran wakafā l-lahu l-mu'minīna l-qitāla wakāna l-lahu qawiyyan ʿazīza

وَأَنزَلَ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَـٰهَرُوهُم مِّنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ مِن صَیَاصِیهِمۡ وَقَذَفَ فِی قُلُوبِهِمُ ٱلرُّعۡبَ فَرِیقࣰا تَقۡتُلُونَ وَتَأۡسِرُونَ فَرِیقࣰا ۝٢٦

And (Allah) brought down those from among Ahl-ul-Kitab who backed those (disbelievers), from their fortified places; and He cast in their hearts terror (about the forces of Islam), (so that) you may kill a portion (of them), and mop (another) group as prisoners of war

wa-anzala alladhīna ẓāharūhum min ahli l-kitābi min ṣayāṣīhim waqadhafa fī qulūbihimu l-ruʿ'ba farīqan taqtulūna watasirūna farīqa

وَأَوۡرَثَكُمۡ أَرۡضَهُمۡ وَدِیَـٰرَهُمۡ وَأَمۡوَ ٰلَهُمۡ وَأَرۡضࣰا لَّمۡ تَطَءُوهَاۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣰا ۝٢٧

And He caused you to inherit their land, and their buildings, and their wealth and riches, and (also that portion of) the land you had not set your foot. And Allah is All-Capable over every thing

wa-awrathakum arḍahum wadiyārahum wa-amwālahum wa-arḍan lam taṭaūhā wakāna l-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin qadīra

4 Prophet's Domestic Simplicity

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ قُل لِّأَزۡوَ ٰجِكَ إِن كُنتُنَّ تُرِدۡنَ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَزِینَتَهَا فَتَعَالَیۡنَ أُمَتِّعۡكُنَّ وَأُسَرِّحۡكُنَّ سَرَاحࣰا جَمِیلࣰا ۝٢٨

O you An-Nabi (The Prophet)! Say to your consorts: “If you had been desiring the life of this world, and its glitter, then come along! I will make a provision for you and I will break the (marital) link with you in a very graceful delinhead of state .

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu qul li-azwājika in kuntunna turid'na l-ḥayata l-dun'yā wazīnatahā fataʿālayna umattiʿ'kunna wa-usarriḥ'kunna sarāḥan jamīla

وَإِن كُنتُنَّ تُرِدۡنَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَٱلدَّارَ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَعَدَّ لِلۡمُحۡسِنَـٰتِ مِنكُنَّ أَجۡرًا عَظِیمࣰا ۝٢٩

And if you women had been desiring Allah and His Messenger and the home of the Hereafter, then verily, Allah has prepared for Al-Muhsinat (the females who do good in perfection) amongst you, an enormous reward

wa-in kuntunna turid'na l-laha warasūlahu wal-dāra l-ākhirata fa-inna l-laha aʿadda lil'muḥ'sināti minkunna ajran ʿaẓīma

یَـٰنِسَاۤءَ ٱلنَّبِیِّ مَن یَأۡتِ مِنكُنَّ بِفَـٰحِشَةࣲ مُّبَیِّنَةࣲ یُضَـٰعَفۡ لَهَا ٱلۡعَذَابُ ضِعۡفَیۡنِۚ وَكَانَ ذَ ٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ یَسِیرࣰا ۝٣٠

O women of An-Nabi! Whoever of you females comes with an evident obscenity Al-azab (this refers to the punishment of Zina as given in Verse 24/2, 8) would be doubled for her (as a further deterrent to those who should present their example as a pattern for the whole nation). And that is very easy for Allah (to make it implemented)

yānisāa l-nabiyi man yati minkunna bifāḥishatin mubayyinatin yuḍāʿaf lahā l-ʿadhābu ḍiʿ'fayni wakāna dhālika ʿalā l-lahi yasīra

۞ وَمَن یَقۡنُتۡ مِنكُنَّ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَتَعۡمَلۡ صَـٰلِحࣰا نُّؤۡتِهَاۤ أَجۡرَهَا مَرَّتَیۡنِ وَأَعۡتَدۡنَا لَهَا رِزۡقࣰا كَرِیمࣰا ۝٣١

And whosoever of you women devotes (herself) for Allah and His Messenger and does righteous deeds, We shall bestow on her, her reward twice over (i.e., the reward shall also be doubled). And We have arranged for such a one, a noble provision

waman yaqnut minkunna lillahi warasūlihi wataʿmal ṣāliḥan nu'tihā ajrahā marratayni wa-aʿtadnā lahā riz'qan karīma

یَـٰنِسَاۤءَ ٱلنَّبِیِّ لَسۡتُنَّ كَأَحَدࣲ مِّنَ ٱلنِّسَاۤءِۛ إِنِ ٱتَّقَیۡتُنَّۛ فَلَا تَخۡضَعۡنَ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ فَیَطۡمَعَ ٱلَّذِی فِی قَلۡبِهِۦ مَرَضࣱ وَقُلۡنَ قَوۡلࣰا مَّعۡرُوفࣰا ۝٣٢

O Nisa-An-Nabi (women of the Prophet)! You are not just like one of the (ordinary) women. If you keep your duty (to Allah), then be not soft in speech, lest one gets excited with desire — one in whose heart is a disease; and you should utter statement in an honourable and guarded style

yānisāa l-nabiyi lastunna ka-aḥadin mina l-nisāi ini ittaqaytunna falā takhḍaʿna bil-qawli fayaṭmaʿa alladhī fī qalbihi maraḍun waqul'na qawlan maʿrūfa

وَقَرۡنَ فِی بُیُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجۡنَ تَبَرُّجَ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِیَّةِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۖ وَأَقِمۡنَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتِینَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَطِعۡنَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۤۚ إِنَّمَا یُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ لِیُذۡهِبَ عَنكُمُ ٱلرِّجۡسَ أَهۡلَ ٱلۡبَیۡتِ وَیُطَهِّرَكُمۡ تَطۡهِیرࣰا ۝٣٣

and stay within your residences, and do not indulge in cosmetic make-up — the cosmetic exhibitionism of the earlier times of ignorance (when the impact of the Message of Islam starts dwindling due to the absence of the Messengers). And you women should establish salat and pay-up Zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Definitely, what (is a fact is that) Allah desires that He may keep away Ar-Rijz from you — Ahl-al-baiyt and purify you with a thorough sanctification

waqarna fī buyūtikunna walā tabarrajna tabarruja l-jāhiliyati l-ūlā wa-aqim'na l-ṣalata waātīna l-zakata wa-aṭiʿ'na l-laha warasūlahu innamā yurīdu l-lahu liyudh'hiba ʿankumu l-rij'sa ahla l-bayti wayuṭahhirakum taṭhīra

وَٱذۡكُرۡنَ مَا یُتۡلَىٰ فِی بُیُوتِكُنَّ مِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡحِكۡمَةِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ لَطِیفًا خَبِیرًا ۝٣٤

And remind (your selves and remind others) what is recited in your houses out of Ayaatullah-wal-Hikmah. Verily, Allah is the Keenest Observer, the Most Well-Informed

wa-udh'kur'na mā yut'lā fī buyūtikunna min āyāti l-lahi wal-ḥik'mati inna l-laha kāna laṭīfan khabīra

5 Prophet's Marriage with Zainab

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ وَٱلۡمُسۡلِمَـٰتِ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِ وَٱلۡقَـٰنِتِینَ وَٱلۡقَـٰنِتَـٰتِ وَٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ وَٱلصَّـٰدِقَـٰتِ وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ وَٱلصَّـٰبِرَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡخَـٰشِعِینَ وَٱلۡخَـٰشِعَـٰتِ وَٱلۡمُتَصَدِّقِینَ وَٱلۡمُتَصَدِّقَـٰتِ وَٱلصَّـٰۤىِٕمِینَ وَٱلصَّـٰۤىِٕمَـٰتِ وَٱلۡحَـٰفِظِینَ فُرُوجَهُمۡ وَٱلۡحَـٰفِظَـٰتِ وَٱلذَّ ٰكِرِینَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِیرࣰا وَٱلذَّ ٰكِرَ ٰتِۙ أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُم مَّغۡفِرَةࣰ وَأَجۡرًا عَظِیمࣰا ۝٣٥

Verily — Muslim males and the Muslim females, the Believing males and the Believing females, and the obediently devoted males and the obediently devoted females, and the truthful males and the truthful females, and the patient/perseverant males and the patient/perseverant females, and the sincerely conscious males and the sincerely conscious females, and the males who offer donations (in the Cause of Allah) and the females who offer donations, and the males who fast and the females who fast, and the males who protect their private sexual parts and the females who protect (their’s against any unpermitted and immoral indulgence), and the males who propagate Allah exceedingly and the females who propagate (likewise) — Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and an enormous reward (here and the Hereafter)

inna l-mus'limīna wal-mus'limāti wal-mu'minīna wal-mu'mināti wal-qānitīna wal-qānitāti wal-ṣādiqīna wal-ṣādiqāti wal-ṣābirīna wal-ṣābirāti wal-khāshiʿīna wal-khāshiʿāti wal-mutaṣadiqīna wal-mutaṣadiqāti wal-ṣāimīna wal-ṣāimāti wal-ḥāfiẓīna furūjahum wal-ḥāfiẓāti wal-dhākirīna l-laha kathīran wal-dhākirāti aʿadda l-lahu lahum maghfiratan wa-ajran ʿaẓīma

وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤۡمِنࣲ وَلَا مُؤۡمِنَةٍ إِذَا قَضَى ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥۤ أَمۡرًا أَن یَكُونَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡخِیَرَةُ مِنۡ أَمۡرِهِمۡۗ وَمَن یَعۡصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَقَدۡ ضَلَّ ضَلَـٰلࣰا مُّبِینࣰا ۝٣٦

And it is not (suitable) for a Believing male, and nor a Believing female that there remains for them any option against their decision, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, then he has indeed strayed in manifest error

wamā kāna limu'minin walā mu'minatin idhā qaḍā l-lahu warasūluhu amran an yakūna lahumu l-khiyaratu min amrihim waman yaʿṣi l-laha warasūlahu faqad ḍalla ḍalālan mubīna

وَإِذۡ تَقُولُ لِلَّذِیۤ أَنۡعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡهِ وَأَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَیۡهِ أَمۡسِكۡ عَلَیۡكَ زَوۡجَكَ وَٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ وَتُخۡفِی فِی نَفۡسِكَ مَا ٱللَّهُ مُبۡدِیهِ وَتَخۡشَى ٱلنَّاسَ وَٱللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخۡشَىٰهُۖ فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ زَیۡدࣱ مِّنۡهَا وَطَرࣰا زَوَّجۡنَـٰكَهَا لِكَیۡ لَا یَكُونَ عَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ حَرَجࣱ فِیۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجِ أَدۡعِیَاۤىِٕهِمۡ إِذَا قَضَوۡا۟ مِنۡهُنَّ وَطَرࣰاۚ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ مَفۡعُولࣰا ۝٣٧

And when you say to him (i.e., to Zaid who is an adopted son) on whom Allah has bestowed Grace, and you have (also) bestowed grace on him: “Retain your wife with you (in wedlock) and remain dutiful to Allah." And you hide in your self for which Allah is One Who will make it evident, and you are afraid of people, while Allah has more right that you may fear Him. So when Zaid broke the marital link with her, We paired you with her (i.e., We arranged your marriage to the divorced wife of your adopted son) — so that there remains no blame on the Believers about (tahead of state in their own wedlock the ex-) wives of their (own) adopted sons when (the latter) have broken marital links with such women. And Allah’s Verdict got fulfilled

wa-idh taqūlu lilladhī anʿama l-lahu ʿalayhi wa-anʿamta ʿalayhi amsik ʿalayka zawjaka wa-ittaqi l-laha watukh'fī fī nafsika mā l-lahu mub'dīhi watakhshā l-nāsa wal-lahu aḥaqqu an takhshāhu falammā qaḍā zaydun min'hā waṭaran zawwajnākahā likay lā yakūna ʿalā l-mu'minīna ḥarajun fī azwāji adʿiyāihim idhā qaḍaw min'hunna waṭaran wakāna amru l-lahi mafʿūla

مَّا كَانَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِیِّ مِنۡ حَرَجࣲ فِیمَا فَرَضَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُۥۖ سُنَّةَ ٱللَّهِ فِی ٱلَّذِینَ خَلَوۡا۟ مِن قَبۡلُۚ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ قَدَرࣰا مَّقۡدُورًا ۝٣٨

There is no blame on An-Nabi (The Prophet) in that which Allah made compulsory for him. That had been Allah’s Sunnah (prescribed Way) amongst those who passed away in previous times. And the Verdict of Allah became an assessment properly assessed

mā kāna ʿalā l-nabiyi min ḥarajin fīmā faraḍa l-lahu lahu sunnata l-lahi fī alladhīna khalaw min qablu wakāna amru l-lahi qadaran maqdūra

ٱلَّذِینَ یُبَلِّغُونَ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَیَخۡشَوۡنَهُۥ وَلَا یَخۡشَوۡنَ أَحَدًا إِلَّا ٱللَّهَۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ حَسِیبࣰا ۝٣٩

Those who propagate Risalaatillahe (‘Messages of Allah’), and fear Him, and do not fear anyone except Allah — and it became sufficient with Allah to be a Reckoner

alladhīna yuballighūna risālāti l-lahi wayakhshawnahu walā yakhshawna aḥadan illā l-laha wakafā bil-lahi ḥasība

مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَاۤ أَحَدࣲ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِیِّـۧنَۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمࣰا ۝٤٠

Muhammad became not a father to any male-adult amongst you, but Rasul-ullah and Khatama-n-Nabiyyin. ['a seal (of closure unto the coming) of the prophets'. 'He closed (the coming of) the prophets'. (The pronunciation 'khatam/khatama' is a noun/verb and thus acts as a double shield or protection to his status and position)]. And Allah is All-Aware of everything. [He Knows fully well that Muhammad is His final, last and closing Prophet; and also that he left no legacy in the form of male-offspring to continue his race or descendence in this world.]

mā kāna muḥammadun abā aḥadin min rijālikum walākin rasūla l-lahi wakhātama l-nabiyīna wakāna l-lahu bikulli shayin ʿalīma

6 Prophet's Marriages

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱذۡكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ذِكۡرࣰا كَثِیرࣰا ۝٤١

O you who have Believed! Propagate Allah to an exceeding propagation

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū udh'kurū l-laha dhik'ran kathīra

وَسَبِّحُوهُ بُكۡرَةࣰ وَأَصِیلًا ۝٤٢

and praise and glorify Him by the morning and the afternoon (This is a recommendation for Fajr and Asr Prayers)

wasabbiḥūhu buk'ratan wa-aṣīla

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُصَلِّی عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَتُهُۥ لِیُخۡرِجَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِۚ وَكَانَ بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ رَحِیمࣰا ۝٤٣

He it is Who Yusallee alaikum and His angels too, so that He may bring you out from darknesses unto light. And He is continuously Merciful to the Believers

huwa alladhī yuṣallī ʿalaykum wamalāikatuhu liyukh'rijakum mina l-ẓulumāti ilā l-nūri wakāna bil-mu'minīna raḥīma

تَحِیَّتُهُمۡ یَوۡمَ یَلۡقَوۡنَهُۥ سَلَـٰمࣱۚ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرࣰا كَرِیمࣰا ۝٤٤

Greetings to them, the Day they meet Him is Salam, and He has prepared for them a generous reward

taḥiyyatuhum yawma yalqawnahu salāmun wa-aʿadda lahum ajran karīma

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ شَـٰهِدࣰا وَمُبَشِّرࣰا وَنَذِیرࣰا ۝٤٥

O you An-Nabi! Verily, We, We have sent you as witness and a bearer of glad tidings and a warner

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu innā arsalnāka shāhidan wamubashiran wanadhīra

وَدَاعِیًا إِلَى ٱللَّهِ بِإِذۡنِهِۦ وَسِرَاجࣰا مُّنِیرࣰا ۝٤٦

and as one who invites to Allah under His permission and a source of light that emits light

wadāʿiyan ilā l-lahi bi-idh'nihi wasirājan munīra

وَبَشِّرِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ بِأَنَّ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ فَضۡلࣰا كَبِیرࣰا ۝٤٧

And transmit glad tidings to the Believers with (the news) that for them, (is coming) from Allah, a great Bounty

wabashiri l-mu'minīna bi-anna lahum mina l-lahi faḍlan kabīra

وَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ وَٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِینَ وَدَعۡ أَذَىٰهُمۡ وَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِیلࣰا ۝٤٨

And obey not the disbelievers and the hypocrites and feel not their attempt of harming (you), and put (your) trust in Allah. And it became sufficient for Allah to be Wakil

walā tuṭiʿi l-kāfirīna wal-munāfiqīna wadaʿ adhāhum watawakkal ʿalā l-lahi wakafā bil-lahi wakīla

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِذَا نَكَحۡتُمُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ طَلَّقۡتُمُوهُنَّ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن تَمَسُّوهُنَّ فَمَا لَكُمۡ عَلَیۡهِنَّ مِنۡ عِدَّةࣲ تَعۡتَدُّونَهَاۖ فَمَتِّعُوهُنَّ وَسَرِّحُوهُنَّ سَرَاحࣰا جَمِیلࣰا ۝٤٩

O you who have Believed! When you married the Believing females, afterwards you divorced them before (the stage) that you attach (yourselves) to those women (in marital-relationship), then (there is) not for you, regarding them, out of any ’ iddat [the waiting-period for next Nikah (marriage)] which you may (have to) count regarding those females. So provide them provision, and see them off in a handsome and graceful farewell

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū idhā nakaḥtumu l-mu'mināti thumma ṭallaqtumūhunna min qabli an tamassūhunna famā lakum ʿalayhinna min ʿiddatin taʿtaddūnahā famattiʿūhunna wasarriḥūhunna sarāḥan jamīla

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ إِنَّاۤ أَحۡلَلۡنَا لَكَ أَزۡوَ ٰجَكَ ٱلَّـٰتِیۤ ءَاتَیۡتَ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَمَا مَلَكَتۡ یَمِینُكَ مِمَّاۤ أَفَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡكَ وَبَنَاتِ عَمِّكَ وَبَنَاتِ عَمَّـٰتِكَ وَبَنَاتِ خَالِكَ وَبَنَاتِ خَـٰلَـٰتِكَ ٱلَّـٰتِی هَاجَرۡنَ مَعَكَ وَٱمۡرَأَةࣰ مُّؤۡمِنَةً إِن وَهَبَتۡ نَفۡسَهَا لِلنَّبِیِّ إِنۡ أَرَادَ ٱلنَّبِیُّ أَن یَسۡتَنكِحَهَا خَالِصَةࣰ لَّكَ مِن دُونِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَۗ قَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا مَا فَرَضۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ فِیۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجِهِمۡ وَمَا مَلَكَتۡ أَیۡمَـٰنُهُمۡ لِكَیۡلَا یَكُونَ عَلَیۡكَ حَرَجࣱۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣰا رَّحِیمࣰا ۝٥٠

O you An-Nabi! Verily, We made lawful to you your consorts to whom you have delivered their ujoor; and that whom your right (hands) held in trust — out of those whom Allah has gifted to you; and the daughters of your paternal uncles and the daughters of your paternal aunts and the daughters of your maternal uncles and the daughters of your maternal aunts — who have migrated with you; and a Believing woman if she offered her self for (the mission of) the Prophet — provided the Prophet intended that he may take her in wedlock. This is a permission exclusively for you (Prophet), excluding the rest of the Believers. Indeed, We knew what We have enjoined upon them about their consorts, and what their right (hands) held in trust. (The permission and restriction applicable to the Prophet) is given in order that there remains no difficulty for you (in boosting your mission of propagation). And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, continuously Merciful

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu innā aḥlalnā laka azwājaka allātī ātayta ujūrahunna wamā malakat yamīnuka mimmā afāa l-lahu ʿalayka wabanāti ʿammika wabanāti ʿammātika wabanāti khālika wabanāti khālātika allātī hājarna maʿaka wa-im'ra-atan mu'minatan in wahabat nafsahā lilnnabiyyi in arāda l-nabiyu an yastankiḥahā khāliṣatan laka min dūni l-mu'minīna qad ʿalim'nā mā faraḍnā ʿalayhim fī azwājihim wamā malakat aymānuhum likaylā yakūna ʿalayka ḥarajun wakāna l-lahu ghafūran raḥīma

۞ تُرۡجِی مَن تَشَاۤءُ مِنۡهُنَّ وَتُءۡوِیۤ إِلَیۡكَ مَن تَشَاۤءُۖ وَمَنِ ٱبۡتَغَیۡتَ مِمَّنۡ عَزَلۡتَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَیۡكَۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ أَدۡنَىٰۤ أَن تَقَرَّ أَعۡیُنُهُنَّ وَلَا یَحۡزَنَّ وَیَرۡضَیۡنَ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَیۡتَهُنَّ كُلُّهُنَّۚ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ مَا فِی قُلُوبِكُمۡۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِیمًا حَلِیمࣰا ۝٥١

Refrain from whom you think proper out of those women, and allow unto you whom you think proper. And whomsoever you desired out of those whom you seperated temporarily from closeup — then (there is) no blame on you; that is nearer that their eyes may find solace, and these females may not get depressed, and they may feel pleased with what you provided them — all of them. And Allah knows what (resides) in your hearts. And Allah is Ever All-Knowing, Most Forbearing

tur'jī man tashāu min'hunna watu'wī ilayka man tashāu wamani ib'taghayta mimman ʿazalta falā junāḥa ʿalayka dhālika adnā an taqarra aʿyunuhunna walā yaḥzanna wayarḍayna bimā ātaytahunna kulluhunna wal-lahu yaʿlamu mā fī qulūbikum wakāna l-lahu ʿalīman ḥalīma

لَّا یَحِلُّ لَكَ ٱلنِّسَاۤءُ مِنۢ بَعۡدُ وَلَاۤ أَن تَبَدَّلَ بِهِنَّ مِنۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣲ وَلَوۡ أَعۡجَبَكَ حُسۡنُهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا مَلَكَتۡ یَمِینُكَۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ رَّقِیبࣰا ۝٥٢

Women are not lawful to you (to be brought in wedlock) besides (these). And neither it is lawful for you that you may replace out of (your already existing wives) by these (specified) women, even if their goodness has amazed you — except what whom your right (hands) held in trust. And Allah is Ever-Vigilant over every thing

lā yaḥillu laka l-nisāu min baʿdu walā an tabaddala bihinna min azwājin walaw aʿjabaka ḥus'nuhunna illā mā malakat yamīnuka wakāna l-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin raqība

7 Rules of Conduct in Domestic Relations

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَدۡخُلُوا۟ بُیُوتَ ٱلنَّبِیِّ إِلَّاۤ أَن یُؤۡذَنَ لَكُمۡ إِلَىٰ طَعَامٍ غَیۡرَ نَـٰظِرِینَ إِنَىٰهُ وَلَـٰكِنۡ إِذَا دُعِیتُمۡ فَٱدۡخُلُوا۟ فَإِذَا طَعِمۡتُمۡ فَٱنتَشِرُوا۟ وَلَا مُسۡتَءۡنِسِینَ لِحَدِیثٍۚ إِنَّ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ كَانَ یُؤۡذِی ٱلنَّبِیَّ فَیَسۡتَحۡیِۦ مِنكُمۡۖ وَٱللَّهُ لَا یَسۡتَحۡیِۦ مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ وَإِذَا سَأَلۡتُمُوهُنَّ مَتَـٰعࣰا فَسۡءَلُوهُنَّ مِن وَرَاۤءِ حِجَابࣲۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ أَطۡهَرُ لِقُلُوبِكُمۡ وَقُلُوبِهِنَّۚ وَمَا كَانَ لَكُمۡ أَن تُؤۡذُوا۟ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَاۤ أَن تَنكِحُوۤا۟ أَزۡوَ ٰجَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦۤ أَبَدًاۚ إِنَّ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ كَانَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَظِیمًا ۝٥٣

O you who have Believed! Enter not the houses of An-Nabi, except when permission is given to you for a meal, without being those who have an eye on its preparation. But when you are invited then (only) you enter. Then when you have taken (your) meal, immediately disperse and be not Mustanesun for hadees (narration). Verily, such (a behaviour) from you used to annoy and hurt An-Nabi, but he hesitates regarding you, but Allah hesitates not regarding the truth. And when you ask those women for any thing, then ask those women from behind a screen. This (behaviour) from you (would be) purer for your hearts as well as for the hearts of these women. And it suits you not that you may hurt and annoy Rasul-ullah (Messenger of Allah), and nor that you may bring in (your) wedlock his wives after him — ever. Verily, this (attempt) of yours shall be, in the Sight of Allah, enormity

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā tadkhulū buyūta l-nabiyi illā an yu'dhana lakum ilā ṭaʿāmin ghayra nāẓirīna ināhu walākin idhā duʿītum fa-ud'khulū fa-idhā ṭaʿim'tum fa-intashirū walā mus'tanisīna liḥadīthin inna dhālikum kāna yu'dhī l-nabiya fayastaḥyī minkum wal-lahu lā yastaḥyī mina l-ḥaqi wa-idhā sa-altumūhunna matāʿan fasalūhunna min warāi ḥijābin dhālikum aṭharu liqulūbikum waqulūbihinna wamā kāna lakum an tu'dhū rasūla l-lahi walā an tankiḥū azwājahu min baʿdihi abadan inna dhālikum kāna ʿinda l-lahi ʿaẓīma

إِن تُبۡدُوا۟ شَیۡءًا أَوۡ تُخۡفُوهُ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمࣰا ۝٥٤

Whether you reveal anything or conceal it, so verily, Allah is All-Knower of every thing

in tub'dū shayan aw tukh'fūhu fa-inna l-laha kāna bikulli shayin ʿalīma

لَّا جُنَاحَ عَلَیۡهِنَّ فِیۤ ءَابَاۤىِٕهِنَّ وَلَاۤ أَبۡنَاۤىِٕهِنَّ وَلَاۤ إِخۡوَ ٰنِهِنَّ وَلَاۤ أَبۡنَاۤءِ إِخۡوَ ٰنِهِنَّ وَلَاۤ أَبۡنَاۤءِ أَخَوَ ٰتِهِنَّ وَلَا نِسَاۤىِٕهِنَّ وَلَا مَا مَلَكَتۡ أَیۡمَـٰنُهُنَّۗ وَٱتَّقِینَ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ شَهِیدًا ۝٥٥

There is no harm for these women (i.e., the consorts of the Prophet if they appear and move-about adorned, and in beauty) before their fathers, and nor their sons, and nor their brothers; and nor their brothers’ sons, and nor their sisters’ sons; and nor their own (i.e., those who are Believers and trust worthy) women, and nor (any harm before) those whom their right (hands) held in trust. And (o consorts of the prophet) keep your duty to Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Witness over every thing

lā junāḥa ʿalayhinna fī ābāihinna walā abnāihinna walā ikh'wānihinna walā abnāi ikh'wānihinna walā abnāi akhawātihinna walā nisāihinna walā mā malakat aymānuhunna wa-ittaqīna l-laha inna l-laha kāna ʿalā kulli shayin shahīda

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَتَهُۥ یُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِیِّۚ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ صَلُّوا۟ عَلَیۡهِ وَسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسۡلِیمًا ۝٥٦

Verily, Allah and His angels yusalluna-ala-an-nabi (send Blessings on the Prophet). [Please compare the wordings used for general class of Believers in Verse 33/43]. O you who have Believed! Sallu alaihe (send blessings on him). [Please note: the practical implementation of this recommendation as required, is explained in Verse No. 33/43. We have to bring the personality of the Prophet from darknesses unto light. We will have to defend him on all fronts whenever he is attacked or his character assassination is done through the so-called Islamic literature produced by humans. Also note that the recommendation is in singular and is applicable to the Prophets’ person alone. Furthermore, it is enjoining a duty on we Muslims, and we are not supposed to revert it back to Allah, as our traditional greeting or ‘Durood-e-Ibrahim’ has taught us!] And submit (to the counsellings and ordainments in Al-Kitab) with complete submission (and inclination of the hearts)

inna l-laha wamalāikatahu yuṣallūna ʿalā l-nabiyi yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū ṣallū ʿalayhi wasallimū taslīma

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡذُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ عَذَابࣰا مُّهِینࣰا ۝٥٧

Verily, those who cause hurt to Allah and His Messenger — Allah has cursed them in this world and in the Hereafter, and He has prepared for them a humiliating torment

inna alladhīna yu'dhūna l-laha warasūlahu laʿanahumu l-lahu fī l-dun'yā wal-ākhirati wa-aʿadda lahum ʿadhāban muhīna

وَٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡذُونَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِ بِغَیۡرِ مَا ٱكۡتَسَبُوا۟ فَقَدِ ٱحۡتَمَلُوا۟ بُهۡتَـٰنࣰا وَإِثۡمࣰا مُّبِینࣰا ۝٥٨

And those who cause hurt to the Believing males and the Believing females undeservedly, then definitely they bore (on themselves) the crime of slander and an evident sin

wa-alladhīna yu'dhūna l-mu'minīna wal-mu'mināti bighayri mā ik'tasabū faqadi iḥ'tamalū buh'tānan wa-ith'man mubīna

8 Spreading Evil Reports

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ قُل لِّأَزۡوَ ٰجِكَ وَبَنَاتِكَ وَنِسَاۤءِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ یُدۡنِینَ عَلَیۡهِنَّ مِن جَلَـٰبِیبِهِنَّۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ أَدۡنَىٰۤ أَن یُعۡرَفۡنَ فَلَا یُؤۡذَیۡنَۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣰا رَّحِیمࣰا ۝٥٩

O you An-Nabi! Tell your consorts and your daughters and the women of the Believers (that) they should draw close to them their Jalabib (this is a plural of Jilbab. It could be any additional outer-garment like a shawl, a cloak, a gown or an apron). That will be an (extra-precaution) nearer (to this) that they may be recognised (as their full face shall remain uncovered), but they may not be teased or harmed (as they are modestly dressed). [A practical application of this ordainment is always visible in those who are at Umra or are attending the Hajj-Congregation]. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, continuously Merciful

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu qul li-azwājika wabanātika wanisāi l-mu'minīna yud'nīna ʿalayhinna min jalābībihinna dhālika adnā an yuʿ'rafna falā yu'dhayna wakāna l-lahu ghafūran raḥīma

۞ لَّىِٕن لَّمۡ یَنتَهِ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضࣱ وَٱلۡمُرۡجِفُونَ فِی ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ لَنُغۡرِیَنَّكَ بِهِمۡ ثُمَّ لَا یُجَاوِرُونَكَ فِیهَاۤ إِلَّا قَلِیلࣰا ۝٦٠

If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is an ailment, and those who cause agitation in Al-Madinah desist not, We shall certainly make you overpower them, then they will not dwell therein as your neighbours except for a very small (period)

la-in lam yantahi l-munāfiqūna wa-alladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun wal-mur'jifūna fī l-madīnati lanugh'riyannaka bihim thumma lā yujāwirūnaka fīhā illā qalīla

مَّلۡعُونِینَۖ أَیۡنَمَا ثُقِفُوۤا۟ أُخِذُوا۟ وَقُتِّلُوا۟ تَقۡتِیلࣰا ۝٦١

Accursed, wherever found, they shall be seized and killed to a complete annihilation

malʿūnīna aynamā thuqifū ukhidhū waquttilū taqtīla

سُنَّةَ ٱللَّهِ فِی ٱلَّذِینَ خَلَوۡا۟ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَلَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّةِ ٱللَّهِ تَبۡدِیلࣰا ۝٦٢

That (had remained) Sunnah (Way) of Allah among those who passed away (in times) before. And you will not find a changing process for Sunnah of Allah

sunnata l-lahi fī alladhīna khalaw min qablu walan tajida lisunnati l-lahi tabdīla

یَسۡءَلُكَ ٱلنَّاسُ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِۖ قُلۡ إِنَّمَا عِلۡمُهَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِۚ وَمَا یُدۡرِیكَ لَعَلَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ تَكُونُ قَرِیبًا ۝٦٣

People ask you concerning the Hour. Say: “Certainly what (is a fact is that) knowledge about that rests with Allah (Alone).” And what will make you know? It may be that the Hour becomes very near

yasaluka l-nāsu ʿani l-sāʿati qul innamā ʿil'muhā ʿinda l-lahi wamā yud'rīka laʿalla l-sāʿata takūnu qarība

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَنَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ سَعِیرًا ۝٦٤

Verily, Allah has cursed the disbelievers, and has prepared for them a flaming Fire (of Hell)

inna l-laha laʿana l-kāfirīna wa-aʿadda lahum saʿīra

خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَبَدࣰاۖ لَّا یَجِدُونَ وَلِیࣰّا وَلَا نَصِیرࣰا ۝٦٥

abiders therein forever, they will not find a wali and nor a helper

khālidīna fīhā abadan lā yajidūna waliyyan walā naṣīra

یَوۡمَ تُقَلَّبُ وُجُوهُهُمۡ فِی ٱلنَّارِ یَقُولُونَ یَـٰلَیۡتَنَاۤ أَطَعۡنَا ٱللَّهَ وَأَطَعۡنَا ٱلرَّسُولَا۠ ۝٦٦

The Day their faces are turned over in the Fire, they will say: “Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!”

yawma tuqallabu wujūhuhum fī l-nāri yaqūlūna yālaytanā aṭaʿnā l-laha wa-aṭaʿnā l-rasūl

وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَاۤ إِنَّاۤ أَطَعۡنَا سَادَتَنَا وَكُبَرَاۤءَنَا فَأَضَلُّونَا ٱلسَّبِیلَا۠ ۝٦٧

And they further said: “Our Nourisher-Sustainer! Surely we, we obeyed our Sadat (this is the plural of Sayyid) and our great ones, and they misled us from the (Right) Path. [This is a direct pointer to those who have invented and forged spurious, unauthentic and artificial beliefs regarding racial-religious superiority in the System of Islam

waqālū rabbanā innā aṭaʿnā sādatanā wakubarāanā fa-aḍallūnā l-sabīl

رَبَّنَاۤ ءَاتِهِمۡ ضِعۡفَیۡنِ مِنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ وَٱلۡعَنۡهُمۡ لَعۡنࣰا كَبِیرࣰا ۝٦٨

Our Nourisher-Sustainer! Give them a double from the punishment and curse them with a monstrous curse.”

rabbanā ātihim ḍiʿ'fayni mina l-ʿadhābi wal-ʿanhum laʿnan kabīra

9 Exhortation to the Faithful

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِینَ ءَاذَوۡا۟ مُوسَىٰ فَبَرَّأَهُ ٱللَّهُ مِمَّا قَالُوا۟ۚ وَكَانَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَجِیهࣰا ۝٦٩

O you who have Believed! Be not like those who gave hurt to Musa, but Allah absolved him of what they uttered. And (Musa) was honourable in Allah’s Sight

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā takūnū ka-alladhīna ādhaw mūsā fabarra-ahu l-lahu mimmā qālū wakāna ʿinda l-lahi wajīha

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَقُولُوا۟ قَوۡلࣰا سَدِیدࣰاۙ ۝٧٠

O you who have Believed! Pay obedience to Allah and (always) give a decisive statement

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū ittaqū l-laha waqūlū qawlan sadīda

یُصۡلِحۡ لَكُمۡ أَعۡمَـٰلَكُمۡ وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡ ذُنُوبَكُمۡۗ وَمَن یُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَقَدۡ فَازَ فَوۡزًا عَظِیمًا ۝٧١

He will reform for you your deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, then indeed he has achieved a great achievement

yuṣ'liḥ lakum aʿmālakum wayaghfir lakum dhunūbakum waman yuṭiʿi l-laha warasūlahu faqad fāza fawzan ʿaẓīma

إِنَّا عَرَضۡنَا ٱلۡأَمَانَةَ عَلَى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱلۡجِبَالِ فَأَبَیۡنَ أَن یَحۡمِلۡنَهَا وَأَشۡفَقۡنَ مِنۡهَا وَحَمَلَهَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ ظَلُومࣰا جَهُولࣰا ۝٧٢

Truly We, We did offer Al-Amanah (‘The trust’, or choice in choosing and adopting the Prescribed Way of Allah, inspite of being semi-independent in certain aspects) to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they declined that they may bear it and became apprehensive of it; but the human personality (accepted this burden and) bore it. Verily, thus he became unjust (to himself) and ignorant (of its responsibilities and obligations)

innā ʿaraḍnā l-amānata ʿalā l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wal-jibāli fa-abayna an yaḥmil'nahā wa-ashfaqna min'hā waḥamalahā l-insānu innahu kāna ẓalūman jahūla

لِّیُعَذِّبَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِینَ وَٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكَـٰتِ وَیَتُوبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣰا رَّحِیمَۢا ۝٧٣

(The result is) that Allah will punish the male hypocrites and the female hypocrites, and the male polytheists and the female polytheists. And Allah will turn (His Attention in forgiveness and mercy) to the Believing males and the Believing females. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, continuously Merciful

liyuʿadhiba l-lahu l-munāfiqīna wal-munāfiqāti wal-mush'rikīna wal-mush'rikāti wayatūba l-lahu ʿalā l-mu'minīna wal-mu'mināti wakāna l-lahu ghafūran raḥīma
