Saba, Sheba — Mustaqim Translation – Parallel Quran

1 Judgment is certain

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی لَهُۥ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَهُ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ٱلۡخَبِیرُ ۝١

Praised is Allah to whom belongs what is in the heavens and what is on earth, and He is praised in the hereafter and He is wise and informed.

al-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī lahu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi walahu l-ḥamdu fī l-ākhirati wahuwa l-ḥakīmu l-khabīr

یَعۡلَمُ مَا یَلِجُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا یَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهَا وَمَا یَنزِلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَمَا یَعۡرُجُ فِیهَاۚ وَهُوَ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ۝٢

He knows what enters the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the sky and what ascends through it, and He is merciful and forgiving.

yaʿlamu mā yaliju fī l-arḍi wamā yakhruju min'hā wamā yanzilu mina l-samāi wamā yaʿruju fīhā wahuwa l-raḥīmu l-ghafūr

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَا تَأۡتِینَا ٱلسَّاعَةُۖ قُلۡ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّی لَتَأۡتِیَنَّكُمۡ عَـٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَیۡبِۖ لَا یَعۡزُبُ عَنۡهُ مِثۡقَالُ ذَرَّةࣲ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَلَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَاۤ أَصۡغَرُ مِن ذَ ٰلِكَ وَلَاۤ أَكۡبَرُ إِلَّا فِی كِتَـٰبࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٣

And those who reject (the truth) say: the hour will not come upon us. Say: but no, by my Lord, it will come upon you. He knows the unseen; not the weight of a tiny speck escapes Him in the heavens and on earth, nor what is smaller than that nor what is bigger, but it is in a clear record.

waqāla alladhīna kafarū lā tatīnā l-sāʿatu qul balā warabbī latatiyannakum ʿālimi l-ghaybi lā yaʿzubu ʿanhu mith'qālu dharratin fī l-samāwāti walā fī l-arḍi walā aṣgharu min dhālika walā akbaru illā fī kitābin mubīni

لِّیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُم مَّغۡفِرَةࣱ وَرِزۡقࣱ كَرِیمࣱ ۝٤

So that He rewards those who believe and do good work, theirs will be forgiveness and generous provision.

liyajziya alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti ulāika lahum maghfiratun wariz'qun karīmu

وَٱلَّذِینَ سَعَوۡ فِیۤ ءَایَـٰتِنَا مُعَـٰجِزِینَ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ مِّن رِّجۡزٍ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٥

And those who strive to obscure Our signs, theirs is a punishment of painful affliction.

wa-alladhīna saʿaw fī āyātinā muʿājizīna ulāika lahum ʿadhābun min rij'zin alīmu

وَیَرَى ٱلَّذِینَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلۡعِلۡمَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ هُوَ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَیَهۡدِیۤ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطِ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡحَمِیدِ ۝٦

And those who were given knowledge see that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth and guides to the path of the mighty and praiseworthy.

wayarā alladhīna ūtū l-ʿil'ma alladhī unzila ilayka min rabbika huwa l-ḥaqa wayahdī ilā ṣirāṭi l-ʿazīzi l-ḥamīd

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ هَلۡ نَدُلُّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ رَجُلࣲ یُنَبِّئُكُمۡ إِذَا مُزِّقۡتُمۡ كُلَّ مُمَزَّقٍ إِنَّكُمۡ لَفِی خَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدٍ ۝٧

And those who reject (the truth) say: shall we direct you to a man who informs you that once you are totally disintegrated you will be in a new creation.

waqāla alladhīna kafarū hal nadullukum ʿalā rajulin yunabbi-ukum idhā muzziq'tum kulla mumazzaqin innakum lafī khalqin jadīdi

أَفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَم بِهِۦ جِنَّةُۢۗ بَلِ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ وَٱلضَّلَـٰلِ ٱلۡبَعِیدِ ۝٨

Has he invented a lie against Allah or is he mad? But those who do not believe in the hereafter are in punishment and extensive error.

aftarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban am bihi jinnatun bali alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati fī l-ʿadhābi wal-ḍalāli l-baʿīd

أَفَلَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ إِن نَّشَأۡ نَخۡسِفۡ بِهِمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ أَوۡ نُسۡقِطۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ كِسَفࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لِّكُلِّ عَبۡدࣲ مُّنِیبࣲ ۝٩

Do they not see the sky and earth before and behind them? If We pleased, We could make the earth swallow them up or drop a piece of the sky on them. In that is a sign for every repenting servant.

afalam yaraw ilā mā bayna aydīhim wamā khalfahum mina l-samāi wal-arḍi in nasha nakhsif bihimu l-arḍa aw nus'qiṭ ʿalayhim kisafan mina l-samāi inna fī dhālika laāyatan likulli ʿabdin munībi

2 Favours followed by Retribution

۞ وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا دَاوُۥدَ مِنَّا فَضۡلࣰاۖ یَـٰجِبَالُ أَوِّبِی مَعَهُۥ وَٱلطَّیۡرَۖ وَأَلَنَّا لَهُ ٱلۡحَدِیدَ ۝١٠

And We gave Dawud (David) favours from Us: oh mountains, and oh birds, echo his worship; and We made the iron pliable for him.

walaqad ātaynā dāwūda minnā faḍlan yājibālu awwibī maʿahu wal-ṭayra wa-alannā lahu l-ḥadīd

أَنِ ٱعۡمَلۡ سَـٰبِغَـٰتࣲ وَقَدِّرۡ فِی ٱلسَّرۡدِۖ وَٱعۡمَلُوا۟ صَـٰلِحًاۖ إِنِّی بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرࣱ ۝١١

So that you make (protective) garments and design them well; and do good work, for I see what you do.

ani iʿ'mal sābighātin waqaddir fī l-sardi wa-iʿ'malū ṣāliḥan innī bimā taʿmalūna baṣīru

وَلِسُلَیۡمَـٰنَ ٱلرِّیحَ غُدُوُّهَا شَهۡرࣱ وَرَوَاحُهَا شَهۡرࣱۖ وَأَسَلۡنَا لَهُۥ عَیۡنَ ٱلۡقِطۡرِۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ مَن یَعۡمَلُ بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡهِ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِۦۖ وَمَن یَزِغۡ مِنۡهُمۡ عَنۡ أَمۡرِنَا نُذِقۡهُ مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِیرِ ۝١٢

And to Sulayman (Solomon) (We subjected) the wind - it took a month to go and a month to return - and We let a spring of brass flow for him, and (subjected) of the Jinn who worked in front of him with the permission of his Lord, and any of them who defies Our command, We make him taste the punishment of the fire.

walisulaymāna l-rīḥa ghuduwwuhā shahrun warawāḥuhā shahrun wa-asalnā lahu ʿayna l-qiṭ'ri wamina l-jini man yaʿmalu bayna yadayhi bi-idh'ni rabbihi waman yazigh min'hum ʿan amrinā nudhiq'hu min ʿadhābi l-saʿīr

یَعۡمَلُونَ لَهُۥ مَا یَشَاۤءُ مِن مَّحَـٰرِیبَ وَتَمَـٰثِیلَ وَجِفَانࣲ كَٱلۡجَوَابِ وَقُدُورࣲ رَّاسِیَـٰتٍۚ ٱعۡمَلُوۤا۟ ءَالَ دَاوُۥدَ شُكۡرࣰاۚ وَقَلِیلࣱ مِّنۡ عِبَادِیَ ٱلشَّكُورُ ۝١٣

They make for him whatever he wants of elevated structures, statues, large watering basins and permanent cooking vessels: be grateful, oh family of Dawud (David), and few of My servants are grateful.

yaʿmalūna lahu mā yashāu min maḥārība watamāthīla wajifānin kal-jawābi waqudūrin rāsiyātin iʿ'malū āla dāwūda shuk'ran waqalīlun min ʿibādiya l-shakūr

فَلَمَّا قَضَیۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ مَا دَلَّهُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَوۡتِهِۦۤ إِلَّا دَاۤبَّةُ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَأۡكُلُ مِنسَأَتَهُۥۖ فَلَمَّا خَرَّ تَبَیَّنَتِ ٱلۡجِنُّ أَن لَّوۡ كَانُوا۟ یَعۡلَمُونَ ٱلۡغَیۡبَ مَا لَبِثُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡمُهِینِ ۝١٤

Then when We decreed death for him, only the earth worms who ate his staff pointed them to his death, so when it fell apart, it became clear to the Jinn that if they had known the unseen, they would not have remained in the humiliating punishment.

falammā qaḍaynā ʿalayhi l-mawta mā dallahum ʿalā mawtihi illā dābbatu l-arḍi takulu minsa-atahu falammā kharra tabayyanati l-jinu an law kānū yaʿlamūna l-ghayba mā labithū fī l-ʿadhābi l-muhīn

لَقَدۡ كَانَ لِسَبَإࣲ فِی مَسۡكَنِهِمۡ ءَایَةࣱۖ جَنَّتَانِ عَن یَمِینࣲ وَشِمَالࣲۖ كُلُوا۟ مِن رِّزۡقِ رَبِّكُمۡ وَٱشۡكُرُوا۟ لَهُۥۚ بَلۡدَةࣱ طَیِّبَةࣱ وَرَبٌّ غَفُورࣱ ۝١٥

There was a sign for Saba´ (Sheba) in their homes: gardens both on the right and the left, eat from the provision of your Lord and thank Him, a good land and a forgiving Lord.

laqad kāna lisaba-in fī maskanihim āyatun jannatāni ʿan yamīnin washimālin kulū min riz'qi rabbikum wa-ush'kurū lahu baldatun ṭayyibatun warabbun ghafūru

فَأَعۡرَضُوا۟ فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ سَیۡلَ ٱلۡعَرِمِ وَبَدَّلۡنَـٰهُم بِجَنَّتَیۡهِمۡ جَنَّتَیۡنِ ذَوَاتَیۡ أُكُلٍ خَمۡطࣲ وَأَثۡلࣲ وَشَیۡءࣲ مِّن سِدۡرࣲ قَلِیلࣲ ۝١٦

But they turned away, so We sent against them a flood from the dam and replaced both their gardens with gardens of bitter food and tamarisk and some cedar trees.

fa-aʿraḍū fa-arsalnā ʿalayhim sayla l-ʿarimi wabaddalnāhum bijannatayhim jannatayni dhawātay ukulin khamṭin wa-athlin washayin min sid'rin qalīli

ذَ ٰلِكَ جَزَیۡنَـٰهُم بِمَا كَفَرُوا۟ۖ وَهَلۡ نُجَـٰزِیۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡكَفُورَ ۝١٧

This is how We punished them for having been ungrateful, and do We not only punish the ungrateful?

dhālika jazaynāhum bimā kafarū wahal nujāzī illā l-kafūr

وَجَعَلۡنَا بَیۡنَهُمۡ وَبَیۡنَ ٱلۡقُرَى ٱلَّتِی بَـٰرَكۡنَا فِیهَا قُرࣰى ظَـٰهِرَةࣰ وَقَدَّرۡنَا فِیهَا ٱلسَّیۡرَۖ سِیرُوا۟ فِیهَا لَیَالِیَ وَأَیَّامًا ءَامِنِینَ ۝١٨

And We placed between them and the towns We had blessed clearly visible towns and facilitated travel between them: travel there night and day safely.

wajaʿalnā baynahum wabayna l-qurā allatī bāraknā fīhā quran ẓāhiratan waqaddarnā fīhā l-sayra sīrū fīhā layāliya wa-ayyāman āminīn

فَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا بَـٰعِدۡ بَیۡنَ أَسۡفَارِنَا وَظَلَمُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَحَادِیثَ وَمَزَّقۡنَـٰهُمۡ كُلَّ مُمَزَّقٍۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارࣲ شَكُورࣲ ۝١٩

But they said: our Lord, extend our journeys, and they wronged themselves, so We made them history and scattered them completely; for in this are signs for everyone who is patient and grateful.

faqālū rabbanā bāʿid bayna asfārinā waẓalamū anfusahum fajaʿalnāhum aḥādītha wamazzaqnāhum kulla mumazzaqin inna fī dhālika laāyātin likulli ṣabbārin shakūri

وَلَقَدۡ صَدَّقَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ إِبۡلِیسُ ظَنَّهُۥ فَٱتَّبَعُوهُ إِلَّا فَرِیقࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٢٠

And Iblis (the devil) made his thought about them come true and they followed him except a group of the believers.

walaqad ṣaddaqa ʿalayhim ib'līsu ẓannahu fa-ittabaʿūhu illā farīqan mina l-mu'minīn

وَمَا كَانَ لَهُۥ عَلَیۡهِم مِّن سُلۡطَـٰنٍ إِلَّا لِنَعۡلَمَ مَن یُؤۡمِنُ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ مِمَّنۡ هُوَ مِنۡهَا فِی شَكࣲّۗ وَرَبُّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءٍ حَفِیظࣱ ۝٢١

And he had no authority over them other than that We would tell apart who believes in the hereafter from who is in doubt of it, and your Lord is keeper of everything.

wamā kāna lahu ʿalayhim min sul'ṭānin illā linaʿlama man yu'minu bil-ākhirati mimman huwa min'hā fī shakkin warabbuka ʿalā kulli shayin ḥafīẓu

3 A Victory for Muslims

قُلِ ٱدۡعُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ زَعَمۡتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَا یَمۡلِكُونَ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةࣲ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَلَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا لَهُمۡ فِیهِمَا مِن شِرۡكࣲ وَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡهُم مِّن ظَهِیرࣲ ۝٢٢

Say: call those whom you claim besides Allah, they do not own the weight of a tiny speck in the heavens nor on earth and they have no share in them and He does not take any support from them.

quli id'ʿū alladhīna zaʿamtum min dūni l-lahi lā yamlikūna mith'qāla dharratin fī l-samāwāti walā fī l-arḍi wamā lahum fīhimā min shir'kin wamā lahu min'hum min ẓahīri

وَلَا تَنفَعُ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُ عِندَهُۥۤ إِلَّا لِمَنۡ أَذِنَ لَهُۥۚ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا فُزِّعَ عَن قُلُوبِهِمۡ قَالُوا۟ مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمۡۖ قَالُوا۟ ٱلۡحَقَّۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِیُّ ٱلۡكَبِیرُ ۝٢٣

And intercession does not benefit with Him except for whom permission has been given, until when their hearts have calmed down they say: what did your Lord say? They say: the truth, and He is the exalted and great.

walā tanfaʿu l-shafāʿatu ʿindahu illā liman adhina lahu ḥattā idhā fuzziʿa ʿan qulūbihim qālū mādhā qāla rabbukum qālū l-ḥaqa wahuwa l-ʿaliyu l-kabīr

۞ قُلۡ مَن یَرۡزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ قُلِ ٱللَّهُۖ وَإِنَّاۤ أَوۡ إِیَّاكُمۡ لَعَلَىٰ هُدًى أَوۡ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٢٤

Say: who provides for you from the heavens and the earth? Say: Allah, and we or you are either upon guidance or in clear error.

qul man yarzuqukum mina l-samāwāti wal-arḍi quli l-lahu wa-innā aw iyyākum laʿalā hudan aw fī ḍalālin mubīni

قُل لَّا تُسۡءَلُونَ عَمَّاۤ أَجۡرَمۡنَا وَلَا نُسۡءَلُ عَمَّا تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٥

Say: you will not be asked about what we have committed and we will not be asked about what you do.

qul lā tus'alūna ʿammā ajramnā walā nus'alu ʿammā taʿmalūn

قُلۡ یَجۡمَعُ بَیۡنَنَا رَبُّنَا ثُمَّ یَفۡتَحُ بَیۡنَنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُوَ ٱلۡفَتَّاحُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٢٦

Say: our Lord will bring us together, then He will judge between us in truth, and He is the knowing judge.

qul yajmaʿu baynanā rabbunā thumma yaftaḥu baynanā bil-ḥaqi wahuwa l-fatāḥu l-ʿalīm

قُلۡ أَرُونِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَلۡحَقۡتُم بِهِۦ شُرَكَاۤءَۖ كَلَّاۚ بَلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٢٧

Say: show me those you have attached to Him as partners, but no, He is Allah the mighty and wise.

qul arūniya alladhīna alḥaqtum bihi shurakāa kallā bal huwa l-lahu l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ إِلَّا كَاۤفَّةࣰ لِّلنَّاسِ بَشِیرࣰا وَنَذِیرࣰا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٨

And We have only sent you as a bringer of good news and warner to all of mankind, but most people don´t know.

wamā arsalnāka illā kāffatan lilnnāsi bashīran wanadhīran walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn

وَیَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٢٩

And they say: when will this promise happen if you are truthful?

wayaqūlūna matā hādhā l-waʿdu in kuntum ṣādiqīn

قُل لَّكُم مِّیعَادُ یَوۡمࣲ لَّا تَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ عَنۡهُ سَاعَةࣰ وَلَا تَسۡتَقۡدِمُونَ ۝٣٠

Say: you have an appointed day which you cannot hold back by an hour nor bring forward.

qul lakum mīʿādu yawmin lā tastakhirūna ʿanhu sāʿatan walā tastaqdimūn

4 Leaders of Evil

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَن نُّؤۡمِنَ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ وَلَا بِٱلَّذِی بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡهِۗ وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ مَوۡقُوفُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ یَرۡجِعُ بَعۡضُهُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ یَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ لَوۡلَاۤ أَنتُمۡ لَكُنَّا مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٣١

And those who reject (the truth) say: we will not believe in this Qur´an nor that which came before it, and if you saw the wrongdoers standing before their Lord, some of them responding to others, with those who were weak saying to those who were arrogant: if it had not been for you we would have been believers.

waqāla alladhīna kafarū lan nu'mina bihādhā l-qur'āni walā bi-alladhī bayna yadayhi walaw tarā idhi l-ẓālimūna mawqūfūna ʿinda rabbihim yarjiʿu baʿḍuhum ilā baʿḍin l-qawla yaqūlu alladhīna us'tuḍ'ʿifū lilladhīna is'takbarū lawlā antum lakunnā mu'minīn

قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُوۤا۟ أَنَحۡنُ صَدَدۡنَـٰكُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ جَاۤءَكُمۖ بَلۡ كُنتُم مُّجۡرِمِینَ ۝٣٢

Those who were arrogant will say to those who were weak: did we prevent you from the guidance after it reached you? But you were sinners.

qāla alladhīna is'takbarū lilladhīna us'tuḍ'ʿifū anaḥnu ṣadadnākum ʿani l-hudā baʿda idh jāakum bal kuntum muj'rimīn

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ بَلۡ مَكۡرُ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذۡ تَأۡمُرُونَنَاۤ أَن نَّكۡفُرَ بِٱللَّهِ وَنَجۡعَلَ لَهُۥۤ أَندَادࣰاۚ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّدَامَةَ لَمَّا رَأَوُا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَۚ وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلۡأَغۡلَـٰلَ فِیۤ أَعۡنَاقِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ۖ هَلۡ یُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٣٣

And those who were weak will say to those who were arrogant: but the (constant) scheming night and day when you commanded us to reject Allah and set up partners for Him. And they start regretting when they see the punishment, and We have placed cuffs around the necks of those who reject (the truth), are they punished for anything other than what they did?

waqāla alladhīna us'tuḍ'ʿifū lilladhīna is'takbarū bal makru al-layli wal-nahāri idh tamurūnanā an nakfura bil-lahi wanajʿala lahu andādan wa-asarrū l-nadāmata lammā ra-awū l-ʿadhāba wajaʿalnā l-aghlāla fī aʿnāqi alladhīna kafarū hal yuj'zawna illā mā kānū yaʿmalūn

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِی قَرۡیَةࣲ مِّن نَّذِیرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتۡرَفُوهَاۤ إِنَّا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلۡتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٣٤

And never have We sent a warner to a town but its affluent people said: we reject what you were sent with.

wamā arsalnā fī qaryatin min nadhīrin illā qāla mut'rafūhā innā bimā ur'sil'tum bihi kāfirūn

وَقَالُوا۟ نَحۡنُ أَكۡثَرُ أَمۡوَ ٰلࣰا وَأَوۡلَـٰدࣰا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِینَ ۝٣٥

And they said: we have more wealth and children and we will not be punished.

waqālū naḥnu aktharu amwālan wa-awlādan wamā naḥnu bimuʿadhabīn

قُلۡ إِنَّ رَبِّی یَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَقۡدِرُ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٦

Say: my Lord expands the provision for whom He pleases and tightens it, but most people don´t know.

qul inna rabbī yabsuṭu l-riz'qa liman yashāu wayaqdiru walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn

5 Wealth stands not for Greatness

وَمَاۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلُكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَوۡلَـٰدُكُم بِٱلَّتِی تُقَرِّبُكُمۡ عِندَنَا زُلۡفَىٰۤ إِلَّا مَنۡ ءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ جَزَاۤءُ ٱلضِّعۡفِ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡغُرُفَـٰتِ ءَامِنُونَ ۝٣٧

And it is not your wealth or children which bring you closer to Us, but whoever believes and does good work, those will be rewarded twice for what they did and will be safe in chambers.

wamā amwālukum walā awlādukum bi-allatī tuqarribukum ʿindanā zul'fā illā man āmana waʿamila ṣāliḥan fa-ulāika lahum jazāu l-ḍiʿ'fi bimā ʿamilū wahum fī l-ghurufāti āminūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ یَسۡعَوۡنَ فِیۤ ءَایَـٰتِنَا مُعَـٰجِزِینَ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُحۡضَرُونَ ۝٣٨

And those who strive to undermine Our signs will be presented for punishment.

wa-alladhīna yasʿawna fī āyātinā muʿājizīna ulāika fī l-ʿadhābi muḥ'ḍarūn

قُلۡ إِنَّ رَبِّی یَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ وَیَقۡدِرُ لَهُۥۚ وَمَاۤ أَنفَقۡتُم مِّن شَیۡءࣲ فَهُوَ یُخۡلِفُهُۥۖ وَهُوَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰزِقِینَ ۝٣٩

Say: my Lord expands the provision for whom of His servants He pleases and tightens it, and whatever you spend, He replaces it, and He is the best provider.

qul inna rabbī yabsuṭu l-riz'qa liman yashāu min ʿibādihi wayaqdiru lahu wamā anfaqtum min shayin fahuwa yukh'lifuhu wahuwa khayru l-rāziqīn

وَیَوۡمَ یَحۡشُرُهُمۡ جَمِیعࣰا ثُمَّ یَقُولُ لِلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ أَهَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ إِیَّاكُمۡ كَانُوا۟ یَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٤٠

And on the day He gathers them all, He will then say to the angels: did these serve you?

wayawma yaḥshuruhum jamīʿan thumma yaqūlu lil'malāikati ahāulāi iyyākum kānū yaʿbudūn

قَالُوا۟ سُبۡحَـٰنَكَ أَنتَ وَلِیُّنَا مِن دُونِهِمۖ بَلۡ كَانُوا۟ یَعۡبُدُونَ ٱلۡجِنَّۖ أَكۡثَرُهُم بِهِم مُّؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٤١

They will say: glorified are You, You are our protector without them, but they served the Jinn, most of them believed in them.

qālū sub'ḥānaka anta waliyyunā min dūnihim bal kānū yaʿbudūna l-jina aktharuhum bihim mu'minūn

فَٱلۡیَوۡمَ لَا یَمۡلِكُ بَعۡضُكُمۡ لِبَعۡضࣲ نَّفۡعࣰا وَلَا ضَرࣰّا وَنَقُولُ لِلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ ٱلَّتِی كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٤٢

So today they cannot benefit nor harm each other, and We will say to the wrongdoers: taste the punishment of the fire which you used to deny.

fal-yawma lā yamliku baʿḍukum libaʿḍin nafʿan walā ḍarran wanaqūlu lilladhīna ẓalamū dhūqū ʿadhāba l-nāri allatī kuntum bihā tukadhibūn

وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتُنَا بَیِّنَـٰتࣲ قَالُوا۟ مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا رَجُلࣱ یُرِیدُ أَن یَصُدَّكُمۡ عَمَّا كَانَ یَعۡبُدُ ءَابَاۤؤُكُمۡ وَقَالُوا۟ مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ إِفۡكࣱ مُّفۡتَرࣰىۚ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا سِحۡرࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٤٣

And when Our clear signs are recited to them they say: this is only a man who wants to divert you from what your forefathers served. And they say: this is only a falsehood he invented. And those who reject the truth say when it comes to them: this is only plain magic.

wa-idhā tut'lā ʿalayhim āyātunā bayyinātin qālū mā hādhā illā rajulun yurīdu an yaṣuddakum ʿammā kāna yaʿbudu ābāukum waqālū mā hādhā illā if'kun muf'taran waqāla alladhīna kafarū lil'ḥaqqi lammā jāahum in hādhā illā siḥ'run mubīnu

وَمَاۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُم مِّن كُتُبࣲ یَدۡرُسُونَهَاۖ وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡ قَبۡلَكَ مِن نَّذِیرࣲ ۝٤٤

And We did not give them a book which they study nor did We send a warner to them before you.

wamā ātaynāhum min kutubin yadrusūnahā wamā arsalnā ilayhim qablaka min nadhīri

وَكَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ وَمَا بَلَغُوا۟ مِعۡشَارَ مَاۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ رُسُلِیۖ فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ نَكِیرِ ۝٤٥

And those before them denied, and they did not even achieve a tenth of what We had given them, so they denied My messenger, and how was My rebuttal!

wakadhaba alladhīna min qablihim wamā balaghū miʿ'shāra mā ātaynāhum fakadhabū rusulī fakayfa kāna nakīr

6 Truth will prosper

۞ قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أَعِظُكُم بِوَ ٰحِدَةٍۖ أَن تَقُومُوا۟ لِلَّهِ مَثۡنَىٰ وَفُرَ ٰدَىٰ ثُمَّ تَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ۚ مَا بِصَاحِبِكُم مِّن جِنَّةٍۚ إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا نَذِیرࣱ لَّكُم بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡ عَذَابࣲ شَدِیدࣲ ۝٤٦

Say: I only admonish you with one thing: that you stand before Allah together or alone and reflect: there is no madness in your companion, for he is only a warner to you of a pending severe punishment.

qul innamā aʿiẓukum biwāḥidatin an taqūmū lillahi mathnā wafurādā thumma tatafakkarū mā biṣāḥibikum min jinnatin in huwa illā nadhīrun lakum bayna yaday ʿadhābin shadīdi

قُلۡ مَا سَأَلۡتُكُم مِّنۡ أَجۡرࣲ فَهُوَ لَكُمۡۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِیَ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ شَهِیدࣱ ۝٤٧

Say: I did not ask any reward from you, but it is for you, for my reward is only upon Allah and He is a witness to everything.

qul mā sa-altukum min ajrin fahuwa lakum in ajriya illā ʿalā l-lahi wahuwa ʿalā kulli shayin shahīdu

قُلۡ إِنَّ رَبِّی یَقۡذِفُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ عَلَّـٰمُ ٱلۡغُیُوبِ ۝٤٨

Say: my Lord pronounces the truth, He knows the unseen.

qul inna rabbī yaqdhifu bil-ḥaqi ʿallāmu l-ghuyūb

قُلۡ جَاۤءَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَمَا یُبۡدِئُ ٱلۡبَـٰطِلُ وَمَا یُعِیدُ ۝٤٩

Say: the truth has come and falsehood does not bring about or confirm anything.

qul jāa l-ḥaqu wamā yub'di-u l-bāṭilu wamā yuʿīd

قُلۡ إِن ضَلَلۡتُ فَإِنَّمَاۤ أَضِلُّ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِیۖ وَإِنِ ٱهۡتَدَیۡتُ فَبِمَا یُوحِیۤ إِلَیَّ رَبِّیۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ سَمِیعࣱ قَرِیبࣱ ۝٥٠

Say: if I go astray, then I go astray at my own loss, and if I am guided, then due to what my Lord has revealed to me, for He listens and is near.

qul in ḍalaltu fa-innamā aḍillu ʿalā nafsī wa-ini ih'tadaytu fabimā yūḥī ilayya rabbī innahu samīʿun qarību

وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذۡ فَزِعُوا۟ فَلَا فَوۡتَ وَأُخِذُوا۟ مِن مَّكَانࣲ قَرِیبࣲ ۝٥١

And if you saw when they are terror-stricken without escape and taken from nearby.

walaw tarā idh faziʿū falā fawta wa-ukhidhū min makānin qarībi

وَقَالُوۤا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلتَّنَاوُشُ مِن مَّكَانِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٥٢

And they say: we believe in it, and to where will they return from afar?

waqālū āmannā bihi wa-annā lahumu l-tanāwushu min makānin baʿīdi

وَقَدۡ كَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَیَقۡذِفُونَ بِٱلۡغَیۡبِ مِن مَّكَانِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٥٣

And they rejected it before and made predictions about the unseen from afar.

waqad kafarū bihi min qablu wayaqdhifūna bil-ghaybi min makānin baʿīdi

وَحِیلَ بَیۡنَهُمۡ وَبَیۡنَ مَا یَشۡتَهُونَ كَمَا فُعِلَ بِأَشۡیَاعِهِم مِّن قَبۡلُۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ فِی شَكࣲّ مُّرِیبِۭ ۝٥٤

And they are prevented from what they wanted just like it happened to their kind before, for they were in severe doubt.

waḥīla baynahum wabayna mā yashtahūna kamā fuʿila bi-ashyāʿihim min qablu innahum kānū fī shakkin murībi
