وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ

Woe to the stinters

Waylun lilmutaffifeena

الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ

who, when others measure for them, exact in full,

Allatheena itha iktaloo AAala alnnasi yastawfoona

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ

but who, when they measure or weigh for others, defraud them.

Wa-itha kaloohum aw wazanoohum yukhsiroona

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَٰئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ

Do such people not think that they will be raised to life

Ala yathunnu ola-ika annahum mabAAoothoona

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

on a great day,

Liyawmin AAatheemin

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

the day when all mankind shall stand before the Lord of all the worlds?

Yawma yaqoomu alnnasu lirabbi alAAalameena

كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ

No indeed! The record of the transgressors is in SijjÄ«n.

Kalla inna kitaba alfujjari lafee sijjeenin

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ

Would that you knew what SijjÄ«n is!

Wama adraka ma sijjeenun

كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

It is a record inscribed.

Kitabun marqoomun

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Woe on that day to the unbelievers

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeena

الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ

who deny the Day of Judgement.

Allatheena yukaththiboona biyawmi alddeeni

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ

None denies it but the guilty aggressors, the evildoers,

Wama yukaththibu bihi illa kullu muAAtadin atheemin

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

who, when Our revelations are recited to them, cry: 'Fables of the ancients!'

Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatuna qala asateeru al-awwaleena

كَلَّا بَلْ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ

No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a layer of rust over their hearts.

Kalla bal rana AAala quloobihim ma kanoo yaksiboona

كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ

No indeed! On that day they shall be shut out from their Lord.

Kalla innahum AAan rabbihim yawma-ithin lamahjooboona

ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ

They shall enter the blazing fire,

Thumma innahum lasaloo aljaheemi

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ

and will be told: 'This is [the reality] which you denied!'

Thumma yuqalu hatha allathee kuntum bihi tukaththiboona

كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ

But the record of the righteous is in `IlliyÅ«n.

Kalla inna kitaba al-abrari lafee AAilliyyeena

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ

Would that you knew what `IlliyÅ«n is!

Wama adraka ma AAilliyyoona

كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

It is a record inscribed,

Kitabun marqoomun

يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ

witnessed by those who are closest to God.

Yashhaduhu almuqarraboona

إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ

Sayyid Qutb (transcription in progress)

The righteous will surely be in bliss.

Inna al-abrara lafee naAAeemin

عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

Sayyid Qutb (transcription in progress)

[Reclining] on couches, they will look around them.

AAala al-ara-iki yanthuroona

تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ

In their faces you shall mark the glow of bliss.

TaAArifu fee wujoohihim nadrata alnnaAAeemi

يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ

They will be given to drink of a pure-drink, securely sealed,

Yusqawna min raheeqin makhtoomin

خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ

with a seal of musk, for this let the strivers emulously strive.

Khitamuhu miskun wafee thalika falyatanafasi almutanafisoona

وَمِزَاجُهُ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ

It is a drink mixed with the waters of TasnÄ«m,

Wamizajuhu min tasneemin

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ

a fountain at which those who are closest to God will drink.

AAaynan yashrabu biha almuqarraboona

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ

Those who are given to sinful practices scoff at the faithful

Inna allatheena ajramoo kanoo mina allatheena amanoo yadhakoona

وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ

and wink at one another as they pass by them.

Wa-itha marroo bihim yataghamazoona

وَإِذَا انقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ انقَلَبُوا فَكِهِينَ

When they go back to their folk they speak of them with jests,

Wa-itha inqalaboo ila ahlihimu inqalaboo fakiheena

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَضَالُّونَ

and when they see them they say: 'These have indeed gone astray!'

Wa-itha raawhum qaloo inna haola-i ladalloona

وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ

Yet they have not been assigned the mission of being their guardians.

Wama orsiloo AAalayhim hafitheena

فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ

So on this Day [of Judgement] the faithful will laugh at the unbelievers,

Faalyawma allatheena amanoo mina alkuffari yadhakoona

عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

as they recline upon their couches and look around them.

AAala al-ara-iki yanthuroona

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ

Shall the unbelievers be requited for what they were wont to do?

Hal thuwwiba alkuffaru ma kanoo yafAAaloona
