Repentance — Amatul Rahman Omar Translation

(This is) a declaration of complete absolution on the part of Allah and His Messenger (from all obligations) to those of the polytheists with whom you had entered into a treaty (but they broke it repeatedly)

barāatun mina l-lahi warasūlihi ilā alladhīna ʿāhadttum mina l-mush'rikīn

9:2

فَسِیحُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَرۡبَعَةَ أَشۡهُرࣲ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّكُمۡ غَیۡرُ مُعۡجِزِی ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡزِی ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

So you may go about (freely O you breakers of the treaties!) in the land for four months (since the date of this declaration), and know that you cannot frustrate (the will of) Allah, and (know) that Allah will humiliate the disbelievers

fasīḥū fī l-arḍi arbaʿata ashhurin wa-iʿ'lamū annakum ghayru muʿ'jizī l-lahi wa-anna l-laha mukh'zī l-kāfirīn

9:3

وَأَذَ ٰنࣱ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦۤ إِلَى ٱلنَّاسِ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡحَجِّ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرِ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَرِیۤءࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ وَرَسُولُهُۥۚ فَإِن تُبۡتُمۡ فَهُوَ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡۖ وَإِن تَوَلَّیۡتُمۡ فَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّكُمۡ غَیۡرُ مُعۡجِزِی ٱللَّهِۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِیمٍ ۝٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

And this is a proclamation from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the occasion of the Greater Pilgrimage (on the day of Sacrifice) that Allah and His Messenger owe no obligation to these polytheists. If you (O polytheists!) turn to Him in repentance it is better for you. But if you turn away then know that you cannot frustrate (the will of) Allah. And proclaim (O Prophet!) the news of a grievous punishment to these disbelievers

wa-adhānun mina l-lahi warasūlihi ilā l-nāsi yawma l-ḥaji l-akbari anna l-laha barīon mina l-mush'rikīna warasūluhu fa-in tub'tum fahuwa khayrun lakum wa-in tawallaytum fa-iʿ'lamū annakum ghayru muʿ'jizī l-lahi wabashiri alladhīna kafarū biʿadhābin alīmi

9:4

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِینَ عَـٰهَدتُّم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ثُمَّ لَمۡ یَنقُصُوكُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَمۡ یُظَـٰهِرُوا۟ عَلَیۡكُمۡ أَحَدࣰا فَأَتِمُّوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِمۡ عَهۡدَهُمۡ إِلَىٰ مُدَّتِهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

Excepting those of the polytheists with whom you have entered into a treaty (and) who subsequently did not fail you in any manner, nor did they back up anyone against you. So abide by the treaty you had entered with them to the end of the term you have fixed with them. Allah, surely loves those who keep their duty

illā alladhīna ʿāhadttum mina l-mush'rikīna thumma lam yanquṣūkum shayan walam yuẓāhirū ʿalaykum aḥadan fa-atimmū ilayhim ʿahdahum ilā muddatihim inna l-laha yuḥibbu l-mutaqīn

9:5

فَإِذَا ٱنسَلَخَ ٱلۡأَشۡهُرُ ٱلۡحُرُمُ فَٱقۡتُلُوا۟ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ حَیۡثُ وَجَدتُّمُوهُمۡ وَخُذُوهُمۡ وَٱحۡصُرُوهُمۡ وَٱقۡعُدُوا۟ لَهُمۡ كُلَّ مَرۡصَدࣲۚ فَإِن تَابُوا۟ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَخَلُّوا۟ سَبِیلَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

But when the prohibited (four) months (when no attack on the breakers of the treaties was permissible) have expired, slay such polytheists (who broke their treaties) wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every place from which it is possible to perceive the enemy and watch their movements. But if they turn in repentance and keep up Prayer and go on presenting the Zakat, leave their path free. Indeed, Allah is Great Protector, Ever Merciful

fa-idhā insalakha l-ashhuru l-ḥurumu fa-uq'tulū l-mush'rikīna ḥaythu wajadttumūhum wakhudhūhum wa-uḥ'ṣurūhum wa-uq'ʿudū lahum kulla marṣadin fa-in tābū wa-aqāmū l-ṣalata waātawū l-zakata fakhallū sabīlahum inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

9:6

وَإِنۡ أَحَدࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ٱسۡتَجَارَكَ فَأَجِرۡهُ حَتَّىٰ یَسۡمَعَ كَلَـٰمَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ أَبۡلِغۡهُ مَأۡمَنَهُۥۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ لَّا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

And if any of the polytheists seeks your protection, grant him protection so that he may hear the word of Allah, then conduct him to a place where he feels himself safe and secure. That (treatment) is (to be meted out to them) because they are a people who have no knowledge (of Islam)

wa-in aḥadun mina l-mush'rikīna is'tajāraka fa-ajir'hu ḥattā yasmaʿa kalāma l-lahi thumma abligh'hu mamanahu dhālika bi-annahum qawmun lā yaʿlamūn

9:7

كَیۡفَ یَكُونُ لِلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ عَهۡدٌ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعِندَ رَسُولِهِۦۤ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِینَ عَـٰهَدتُّمۡ عِندَ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِۖ فَمَا ٱسۡتَقَـٰمُوا۟ لَكُمۡ فَٱسۡتَقِیمُوا۟ لَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

There can be no treaty (on the part) of these Polytheists (after their repeated violations of the same) in the sight of Allah and His Messenger. This, however, does not apply to those with whom you entered into a treaty near the Holy Mosque (at Makkah). So long as they keep true to (the treaty for) you, you should also keep true (in maintaining the treaty) for them. Allah, surely, loves those who become secure (against the breach of trusts)

kayfa yakūnu lil'mush'rikīna ʿahdun ʿinda l-lahi waʿinda rasūlihi illā alladhīna ʿāhadttum ʿinda l-masjidi l-ḥarāmi famā is'taqāmū lakum fa-is'taqīmū lahum inna l-laha yuḥibbu l-mutaqīn

9:8

كَیۡفَ وَإِن یَظۡهَرُوا۟ عَلَیۡكُمۡ لَا یَرۡقُبُوا۟ فِیكُمۡ إِلࣰّا وَلَا ذِمَّةࣰۚ یُرۡضُونَكُم بِأَفۡوَ ٰهِهِمۡ وَتَأۡبَىٰ قُلُوبُهُمۡ وَأَكۡثَرُهُمۡ فَـٰسِقُونَ ۝٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

How (can there be a treaty with deliberate violators of agreements) while, if they get the better of you they would respect no bond, nor words of honour in dealing with you. They would try to please you with (mere words of) their mouths whereas their hearts dissent (from what they say), and most of them are perfidious

kayfa wa-in yaẓharū ʿalaykum lā yarqubū fīkum illan walā dhimmatan yur'ḍūnakum bi-afwāhihim watabā qulūbuhum wa-aktharuhum fāsiqūn

9:9

ٱشۡتَرَوۡا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنࣰا قَلِیلࣰا فَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُمۡ سَاۤءَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

They have preferred paltry gains (- this world) to the revelations of Allah and thus have turned (people) away from His path. Surely, evil is what they do

ish'taraw biāyāti l-lahi thamanan qalīlan faṣaddū ʿan sabīlihi innahum sāa mā kānū yaʿmalūn

9:10

لَا یَرۡقُبُونَ فِی مُؤۡمِنٍ إِلࣰّا وَلَا ذِمَّةࣰۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُعۡتَدُونَ ۝١٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

They observe no bond nor any word of honour while dealing with one who trusts (them). It is these who are the transgressors

lā yarqubūna fī mu'minin illan walā dhimmatan wa-ulāika humu l-muʿ'tadūn

9:11

فَإِن تَابُوا۟ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَإِخۡوَ ٰنُكُمۡ فِی ٱلدِّینِۗ وَنُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١١

Amatul Rahman Omar

But if (even) such (sworn antagonists) turn in repentance and keep up Prayer and go on presenting the Zakat, they are your brethren in faith. And We explain the commandments in detail for a people who know

fa-in tābū wa-aqāmū l-ṣalata waātawū l-zakata fa-ikh'wānukum fī l-dīni wanufaṣṣilu l-āyāti liqawmin yaʿlamūn

9:12

وَإِن نَّكَثُوۤا۟ أَیۡمَـٰنَهُم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ عَهۡدِهِمۡ وَطَعَنُوا۟ فِی دِینِكُمۡ فَقَـٰتِلُوۤا۟ أَىِٕمَّةَ ٱلۡكُفۡرِ إِنَّهُمۡ لَاۤ أَیۡمَـٰنَ لَهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَنتَهُونَ ۝١٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

If they break their oaths after (they have ratified) their pledge and revile and commit aggression against your Faith, then fight such leaders of disbelief that they may desist. Indeed, solemn (binding) oaths have no value with them

wa-in nakathū aymānahum min baʿdi ʿahdihim waṭaʿanū fī dīnikum faqātilū a-immata l-kuf'ri innahum lā aymāna lahum laʿallahum yantahūn

9:13

أَلَا تُقَـٰتِلُونَ قَوۡمࣰا نَّكَثُوۤا۟ أَیۡمَـٰنَهُمۡ وَهَمُّوا۟ بِإِخۡرَاجِ ٱلرَّسُولِ وَهُم بَدَءُوكُمۡ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍۚ أَتَخۡشَوۡنَهُمۡۚ فَٱللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخۡشَوۡهُ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

Will you not fight a people who have broken their solemn oaths and proposed to turn out the Messenger and were the first to commence (the fight) against you. Are you afraid of them? Nay, Allah is more worthy that you should stand in awe of Him if you be (true) believers

alā tuqātilūna qawman nakathū aymānahum wahammū bi-ikh'rāji l-rasūli wahum badaūkum awwala marratin atakhshawnahum fal-lahu aḥaqqu an takhshawhu in kuntum mu'minīn

9:14

قَـٰتِلُوهُمۡ یُعَذِّبۡهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِأَیۡدِیكُمۡ وَیُخۡزِهِمۡ وَیَنصُرۡكُمۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَیَشۡفِ صُدُورَ قَوۡمࣲ مُّؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

Fight them, Allah will punish them at your hands and humiliate them and will grant you victory over them, and He will heal (the agonies of) the minds of a believing people

qātilūhum yuʿadhib'humu l-lahu bi-aydīkum wayukh'zihim wayanṣur'kum ʿalayhim wayashfi ṣudūra qawmin mu'minīn

9:15

وَیُذۡهِبۡ غَیۡظَ قُلُوبِهِمۡۗ وَیَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ مَن یَشَاۤءُۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمٌ ۝١٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

And He may take away the suppressed rage of their (- the disbeliever's) hearts. And Allah turns (with mercy) to him who wishes (Him to turn to him with grace). Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise

wayudh'hib ghayẓa qulūbihim wayatūbu l-lahu ʿalā man yashāu wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

9:16

أَمۡ حَسِبۡتُمۡ أَن تُتۡرَكُوا۟ وَلَمَّا یَعۡلَمِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِینَ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ مِنكُمۡ وَلَمۡ یَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا رَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَلِیجَةࣰۚ وَٱللَّهُ خَبِیرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

Do you think that you will be left (alone in peace) while Allah has not yet distinguished those who strove hard (for His cause) from among you and who have taken no protecting friend apart from Allah and His Messenger and the believers? Allah is Well-Aware of what you do

am ḥasib'tum an tut'rakū walammā yaʿlami l-lahu alladhīna jāhadū minkum walam yattakhidhū min dūni l-lahi walā rasūlihi walā l-mu'minīna walījatan wal-lahu khabīrun bimā taʿmalūn

9:17

مَا كَانَ لِلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ أَن یَعۡمُرُوا۟ مَسَـٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ شَـٰهِدِینَ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِم بِٱلۡكُفۡرِۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ حَبِطَتۡ أَعۡمَـٰلُهُمۡ وَفِی ٱلنَّارِ هُمۡ خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝١٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

It is not for the polytheists to keep the mosques of Allah in a good and flourishing state while they bear witness to their own disbelief. It is these whose deeds have all gone in vain and in the Fire they shall abide

mā kāna lil'mush'rikīna an yaʿmurū masājida l-lahi shāhidīna ʿalā anfusihim bil-kuf'ri ulāika ḥabiṭat aʿmāluhum wafī l-nāri hum khālidūn

9:18

إِنَّمَا یَعۡمُرُ مَسَـٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ مَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِ وَأَقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَى ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَلَمۡ یَخۡشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَۖ فَعَسَىٰۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَن یَكُونُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهۡتَدِینَ ۝١٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

He alone keeps the mosques of Allah in a good and flourishing state who believes in Allah and the Last Day and observes Prayer and goes on presenting the Zakat and holds none but Allah in awe. Therefore it is these alone who are likely to be among those who attain true guidance

innamā yaʿmuru masājida l-lahi man āmana bil-lahi wal-yawmi l-ākhiri wa-aqāma l-ṣalata waātā l-zakata walam yakhsha illā l-laha faʿasā ulāika an yakūnū mina l-muh'tadīn

9:19

۞ أَجَعَلۡتُمۡ سِقَایَةَ ٱلۡحَاۤجِّ وَعِمَارَةَ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ كَمَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِ وَجَـٰهَدَ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۚ لَا یَسۡتَوُۥنَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا یَهۡدِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

Do you hold the giving of drink to the Pilgrims and keeping the Holy Mosque in a good and flourishing state as equal to (the deeds of) him who believes in Allah and the Last Day and strives hard in the cause of Allah? They are not equal in the sight of Allah. Allah guides not to ultimate success the people who have no sense of proportion

ajaʿaltum siqāyata l-ḥāji waʿimārata l-masjidi l-ḥarāmi kaman āmana bil-lahi wal-yawmi l-ākhiri wajāhada fī sabīli l-lahi lā yastawūna ʿinda l-lahi wal-lahu lā yahdī l-qawma l-ẓālimīn

9:20

ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ أَعۡظَمُ دَرَجَةً عِندَ ٱللَّهِۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡفَاۤىِٕزُونَ ۝٢٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

Those who believe and emigrate (for the sake of God) and strive hard for the cause of Allah with their possessions and their persons, have the highest rank with Allah and it is these who are the triumphant

alladhīna āmanū wahājarū wajāhadū fī sabīli l-lahi bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim aʿẓamu darajatan ʿinda l-lahi wa-ulāika humu l-fāizūn

9:21

یُبَشِّرُهُمۡ رَبُّهُم بِرَحۡمَةࣲ مِّنۡهُ وَرِضۡوَ ٰنࣲ وَجَنَّـٰتࣲ لَّهُمۡ فِیهَا نَعِیمࣱ مُّقِیمٌ ۝٢١

Amatul Rahman Omar

Their Lord gives them good tidings of great mercy from Him and of good pleasure and of Gardens obtaining lasting and abundant bliss for them

yubashiruhum rabbuhum biraḥmatin min'hu wariḍ'wānin wajannātin lahum fīhā naʿīmun muqīmu

9:22

خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَبَدًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥۤ أَجۡرٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٢٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

They shall abide therein for ever and ever. Indeed Allah is He with Whom there awaits a great reward (for them)

khālidīna fīhā abadan inna l-laha ʿindahu ajrun ʿaẓīmu

9:23

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوۤا۟ ءَابَاۤءَكُمۡ وَإِخۡوَ ٰنَكُمۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ إِنِ ٱسۡتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلۡكُفۡرَ عَلَى ٱلۡإِیمَـٰنِۚ وَمَن یَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمۡ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۝٢٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

O you who believe! take not your fathers and brothers for allies, if they prefer disbelief to belief. And whoever of you ally themselves with them, it is then these who are the real wrong doers

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā tattakhidhū ābāakum wa-ikh'wānakum awliyāa ini is'taḥabbū l-kuf'ra ʿalā l-īmāni waman yatawallahum minkum fa-ulāika humu l-ẓālimūn

9:24

قُلۡ إِن كَانَ ءَابَاۤؤُكُمۡ وَأَبۡنَاۤؤُكُمۡ وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُكُمۡ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجُكُمۡ وَعَشِیرَتُكُمۡ وَأَمۡوَ ٰلٌ ٱقۡتَرَفۡتُمُوهَا وَتِجَـٰرَةࣱ تَخۡشَوۡنَ كَسَادَهَا وَمَسَـٰكِنُ تَرۡضَوۡنَهَاۤ أَحَبَّ إِلَیۡكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَجِهَادࣲ فِی سَبِیلِهِۦ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ یَأۡتِیَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا یَهۡدِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٢٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

Say, `If your fathers and your sons and your brethren and your mates and your kinsfolk and the belongings you have acquired and the trade, the slump of which you fear and the homes you love are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving hard for the cause of Allah, then wait till Allah brings about His judgment. Indeed, Allah guides no sinful people to success

qul in kāna ābāukum wa-abnāukum wa-ikh'wānukum wa-azwājukum waʿashīratukum wa-amwālun iq'taraftumūhā watijāratun takhshawna kasādahā wamasākinu tarḍawnahā aḥabba ilaykum mina l-lahi warasūlihi wajihādin fī sabīlihi fatarabbaṣū ḥattā yatiya l-lahu bi-amrihi wal-lahu lā yahdī l-qawma l-fāsiqīn

9:25

لَقَدۡ نَصَرَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِی مَوَاطِنَ كَثِیرَةࣲ وَیَوۡمَ حُنَیۡنٍ إِذۡ أَعۡجَبَتۡكُمۡ كَثۡرَتُكُمۡ فَلَمۡ تُغۡنِ عَنكُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَضَاقَتۡ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتۡ ثُمَّ وَلَّیۡتُم مُّدۡبِرِینَ ۝٢٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

Allah has already helped you on many a battle field and on the day of (the battle of) Hunain when your multitude made you feel proud but it availed you nought and the land with all its spaciousness became straitened for you then you turned back retreating

laqad naṣarakumu l-lahu fī mawāṭina kathīratin wayawma ḥunaynin idh aʿjabatkum kathratukum falam tugh'ni ʿankum shayan waḍāqat ʿalaykumu l-arḍu bimā raḥubat thumma wallaytum mud'birīn

9:26

ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِینَتَهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ وَعَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَأَنزَلَ جُنُودࣰا لَّمۡ تَرَوۡهَا وَعَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ۚ وَذَ ٰلِكَ جَزَاۤءُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٢٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

Then Allah sent down His Shechinah(- peace of mind and tranquility) upon His Messenger and upon the believers and He sent down troops which were not visible to you and He punished those who disbelieved. And such is the recompense of the disbelievers

thumma anzala l-lahu sakīnatahu ʿalā rasūlihi waʿalā l-mu'minīna wa-anzala junūdan lam tarawhā waʿadhaba alladhīna kafarū wadhālika jazāu l-kāfirīn

9:27

ثُمَّ یَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَ ٰلِكَ عَلَىٰ مَن یَشَاۤءُۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٢٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

Yet after this (punishment) Allah will turn (with His mercy) to him who wishes (Him to turn to him with His grace), for Allah is Great Protector, Ever Merciful

thumma yatūbu l-lahu min baʿdi dhālika ʿalā man yashāu wal-lahu ghafūrun raḥīmu

9:28

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُشۡرِكُونَ نَجَسࣱ فَلَا یَقۡرَبُوا۟ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدَ ٱلۡحَرَامَ بَعۡدَ عَامِهِمۡ هَـٰذَاۚ وَإِنۡ خِفۡتُمۡ عَیۡلَةࣰ فَسَوۡفَ یُغۡنِیكُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦۤ إِن شَاۤءَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٢٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

O you who believe! the polytheists are (spiritually) altogether unclean, so they shall not come near the Holy Mosque after this year of theirs. And if you fear (this will spell) poverty (for you) then (rest contented) Allah will soon make you rich out of His bounty if He will. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū innamā l-mush'rikūna najasun falā yaqrabū l-masjida l-ḥarāma baʿda ʿāmihim hādhā wa-in khif'tum ʿaylatan fasawfa yugh'nīkumu l-lahu min faḍlihi in shāa inna l-laha ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

9:29

قَـٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَلَا بِٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِ وَلَا یُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَلَا یَدِینُونَ دِینَ ٱلۡحَقِّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِینَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ حَتَّىٰ یُعۡطُوا۟ ٱلۡجِزۡیَةَ عَن یَدࣲ وَهُمۡ صَـٰغِرُونَ ۝٢٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

Fight against such of the people who despite having been given the Scripture do not (really) believe in Allah and the Last Day, and who do not hold unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have declared to be unlawful, and do not subscribe to the true faith, until they pay the Jizyah (- the commutation tax), provided they can afford it, and they are content with their state of subjection (having become incorporated in the Islamic government)

qātilū alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-lahi walā bil-yawmi l-ākhiri walā yuḥarrimūna mā ḥarrama l-lahu warasūluhu walā yadīnūna dīna l-ḥaqi mina alladhīna ūtū l-kitāba ḥattā yuʿ'ṭū l-jiz'yata ʿan yadin wahum ṣāghirūn

9:30

وَقَالَتِ ٱلۡیَهُودُ عُزَیۡرٌ ٱبۡنُ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالَتِ ٱلنَّصَـٰرَى ٱلۡمَسِیحُ ٱبۡنُ ٱللَّهِۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ قَوۡلُهُم بِأَفۡوَ ٰهِهِمۡۖ یُضَـٰهِءُونَ قَوۡلَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَبۡلُۚ قَـٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُۖ أَنَّىٰ یُؤۡفَكُونَ ۝٣٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

There are some of the Jews who say, `Ezra is the son of Allah,' while the Christians say, `The Messiah is the son of Allah.' These are mere words that they speak. They only imitate the words of the infidels of old. Allah assail them! Whither they are deluded away

waqālati l-yahūdu ʿuzayrun ub'nu l-lahi waqālati l-naṣārā l-masīḥu ub'nu l-lahi dhālika qawluhum bi-afwāhihim yuḍāhiūna qawla alladhīna kafarū min qablu qātalahumu l-lahu annā yu'fakūn

9:31

ٱتَّخَذُوۤا۟ أَحۡبَارَهُمۡ وَرُهۡبَـٰنَهُمۡ أَرۡبَابࣰا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡمَسِیحَ ٱبۡنَ مَرۡیَمَ وَمَاۤ أُمِرُوۤا۟ إِلَّا لِیَعۡبُدُوۤا۟ إِلَـٰهࣰا وَ ٰحِدࣰاۖ لَّاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٣١

Amatul Rahman Omar

They have taken their learned men and their monks for lords apart from Allah, and (similarly they have taken) the Messiah, son of Mary, whilst they were enjoined to worship none but One God. There is no other, cannot be and will never be One worthy of worship but He. Too glorified is He for what they associate (with Him)

ittakhadhū aḥbārahum waruh'bānahum arbāban min dūni l-lahi wal-masīḥa ib'na maryama wamā umirū illā liyaʿbudū ilāhan wāḥidan lā ilāha illā huwa sub'ḥānahu ʿammā yush'rikūn

9:32

یُرِیدُونَ أَن یُطۡفِءُوا۟ نُورَ ٱللَّهِ بِأَفۡوَ ٰهِهِمۡ وَیَأۡبَى ٱللَّهُ إِلَّاۤ أَن یُتِمَّ نُورَهُۥ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٣٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

They seek to put out the light of Allah with (the breath of) their mouths, but Allah disdains every other thing save that He will perfect His light; however much the disbelievers may consider (it) hard

yurīdūna an yuṭ'fiū nūra l-lahi bi-afwāhihim wayabā l-lahu illā an yutimma nūrahu walaw kariha l-kāfirūn

9:33

هُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَرۡسَلَ رَسُولَهُۥ بِٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَدِینِ ٱلۡحَقِّ لِیُظۡهِرَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلدِّینِ كُلِّهِۦ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٣٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

It is He who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the Faith of Truth that He may make it triumph over every (other) faith, even though the polytheists consider (it) hard

huwa alladhī arsala rasūlahu bil-hudā wadīni l-ḥaqi liyuẓ'hirahu ʿalā l-dīni kullihi walaw kariha l-mush'rikūn

9:34

۞ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِنَّ كَثِیرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَحۡبَارِ وَٱلرُّهۡبَانِ لَیَأۡكُلُونَ أَمۡوَ ٰلَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلۡبَـٰطِلِ وَیَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱلَّذِینَ یَكۡنِزُونَ ٱلذَّهَبَ وَٱلۡفِضَّةَ وَلَا یُنفِقُونَهَا فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ فَبَشِّرۡهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِیمࣲ ۝٣٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

O you who believe! many of the learned men (of the Jews) and the (Christian) monks wrongfully appropriate the belongings of the people and turn (the people) away from, and themselves forsake the path of Allah. Give the news of woeful punishment to them and to those who treasure gold and silver and do not spend it in the cause of Allah

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū inna kathīran mina l-aḥbāri wal-ruh'bāni layakulūna amwāla l-nāsi bil-bāṭili wayaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi wa-alladhīna yaknizūna l-dhahaba wal-fiḍata walā yunfiqūnahā fī sabīli l-lahi fabashir'hum biʿadhābin alīmi

9:35

یَوۡمَ یُحۡمَىٰ عَلَیۡهَا فِی نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ فَتُكۡوَىٰ بِهَا جِبَاهُهُمۡ وَجُنُوبُهُمۡ وَظُهُورُهُمۡۖ هَـٰذَا مَا كَنَزۡتُمۡ لِأَنفُسِكُمۡ فَذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡنِزُونَ ۝٣٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

The day (will come) when these (treasures) shall be heated in the Fire of Gehenna and their foreheads and their sides and their backs be branded with it; (and it shall be said to them,) `This is what you hoarded up for yourselves, therefore suffer (now the punishment) for what you have been (unlawfully) treasuring up

yawma yuḥ'mā ʿalayhā fī nāri jahannama fatuk'wā bihā jibāhuhum wajunūbuhum waẓuhūruhum hādhā mā kanaztum li-anfusikum fadhūqū mā kuntum taknizūn

9:36

إِنَّ عِدَّةَ ٱلشُّهُورِ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱثۡنَا عَشَرَ شَهۡرࣰا فِی كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِ یَوۡمَ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِنۡهَاۤ أَرۡبَعَةٌ حُرُمࣱۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلدِّینُ ٱلۡقَیِّمُۚ فَلَا تَظۡلِمُوا۟ فِیهِنَّ أَنفُسَكُمۡۚ وَقَـٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ كَاۤفَّةࣰ كَمَا یُقَـٰتِلُونَكُمۡ كَاۤفَّةࣰۚ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٣٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year) according to the law of Allah since the day He created the heavens and the earth. Of these four (months) are sacred (- Rajab, Muharram, Dhul-Qa`dah and Dhul-Hijjah). That is the established law. Do not do injustice to yourselves (by waging wars) during these (sacred months). And fight the polytheists all together (in your defence) just as they fight you all together. And know that Allah is indeed with those who become secure against evil

inna ʿiddata l-shuhūri ʿinda l-lahi ith'nā ʿashara shahran fī kitābi l-lahi yawma khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa min'hā arbaʿatun ḥurumun dhālika l-dīnu l-qayimu falā taẓlimū fīhinna anfusakum waqātilū l-mush'rikīna kāffatan kamā yuqātilūnakum kāffatan wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha maʿa l-mutaqīn

9:37

إِنَّمَا ٱلنَّسِیۤءُ زِیَادَةࣱ فِی ٱلۡكُفۡرِۖ یُضَلُّ بِهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ یُحِلُّونَهُۥ عَامࣰا وَیُحَرِّمُونَهُۥ عَامࣰا لِّیُوَاطِءُوا۟ عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ فَیُحِلُّوا۟ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُۚ زُیِّنَ لَهُمۡ سُوۤءُ أَعۡمَـٰلِهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا یَهۡدِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٣٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

The postponement (of a sacred month to some other month) is an excess (committed in the days of) disbelief; the disbelievers are led astray by this (practice). They hold it lawful (for waging a war) one year and forbid it another year, thus adjusting the term of the ban prescribed by Allah and making lawful what Allah has made unlawful. The evil of their deeds has been made (by satan) fair-seeming to them. And Allah guides not the disbelieving people in the ways of success

innamā l-nasīu ziyādatun fī l-kuf'ri yuḍallu bihi alladhīna kafarū yuḥillūnahu ʿāman wayuḥarrimūnahu ʿāman liyuwāṭiū ʿiddata mā ḥarrama l-lahu fayuḥillū mā ḥarrama l-lahu zuyyina lahum sūu aʿmālihim wal-lahu lā yahdī l-qawma l-kāfirīn

9:38

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَا لَكُمۡ إِذَا قِیلَ لَكُمُ ٱنفِرُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ ٱثَّاقَلۡتُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ أَرَضِیتُم بِٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا مِنَ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۚ فَمَا مَتَـٰعُ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ إِلَّا قَلِیلٌ ۝٣٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

O you the (so called) believers! what (excuse) have you that when it is said to you to go forth for the cause of Allah (to Tabuk) you incline heavily towards the earth. Would you be contented with the present life in preference to the Hereafter? (If it is so then remember that) the provision of this present life, as compared with the Hereafter, is but little

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū mā lakum idhā qīla lakumu infirū fī sabīli l-lahi ithāqaltum ilā l-arḍi araḍītum bil-ḥayati l-dun'yā mina l-ākhirati famā matāʿu l-ḥayati l-dun'yā fī l-ākhirati illā qalīlu

9:39

إِلَّا تَنفِرُوا۟ یُعَذِّبۡكُمۡ عَذَابًا أَلِیمࣰا وَیَسۡتَبۡدِلۡ قَوۡمًا غَیۡرَكُمۡ وَلَا تَضُرُّوهُ شَیۡءࣰاۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرٌ ۝٣٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

If you do not go forth on the expedition, He will make you endure a grievous suffering and will choose instead of you a people better than you and you will do Him no harm at all. For Allah is Possessor of every power to do all He will

illā tanfirū yuʿadhib'kum ʿadhāban alīman wayastabdil qawman ghayrakum walā taḍurrūhu shayan wal-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

9:40

إِلَّا تَنصُرُوهُ فَقَدۡ نَصَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِذۡ أَخۡرَجَهُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ثَانِیَ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ إِذۡ هُمَا فِی ٱلۡغَارِ إِذۡ یَقُولُ لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ لَا تَحۡزَنۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَاۖ فَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِینَتَهُۥ عَلَیۡهِ وَأَیَّدَهُۥ بِجُنُودࣲ لَّمۡ تَرَوۡهَا وَجَعَلَ كَلِمَةَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلسُّفۡلَىٰۗ وَكَلِمَةُ ٱللَّهِ هِیَ ٱلۡعُلۡیَاۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمٌ ۝٤٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

If you do not help him (- the Prophet), then (know) Allah has already helped him when those who disbelieved turned him out (from Makkah with only one companion); he being the second of the two when they were both in the cave (of Thaur); and when he said to his companion (- Abu Bakr), `Grieve not (about me). Surely, Allah is with us.' Then Allah sent down His Shechinah (- peace and tranquility) upon him, and helped him with troops which were not visible to you, and He humbled the word of those who disbelieved to the lowest, and it is the word of Allah alone which is the supermost (and so prevails). Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise

illā tanṣurūhu faqad naṣarahu l-lahu idh akhrajahu alladhīna kafarū thāniya ith'nayni idh humā fī l-ghāri idh yaqūlu liṣāḥibihi lā taḥzan inna l-laha maʿanā fa-anzala l-lahu sakīnatahu ʿalayhi wa-ayyadahu bijunūdin lam tarawhā wajaʿala kalimata alladhīna kafarū l-suf'lā wakalimatu l-lahi hiya l-ʿul'yā wal-lahu ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

9:41

ٱنفِرُوا۟ خِفَافࣰا وَثِقَالࣰا وَجَـٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِكُمۡ وَأَنفُسِكُمۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٤١

Amatul Rahman Omar

Go forth (all whether) light (- being ill-equipped) or heavy (- being well-equipped) and strive hard with your possessions and your persons in the cause of Allah. That is better for you, if only you knew (your own gain or loss)

infirū khifāfan wathiqālan wajāhidū bi-amwālikum wa-anfusikum fī sabīli l-lahi dhālikum khayrun lakum in kuntum taʿlamūn

9:42

لَوۡ كَانَ عَرَضࣰا قَرِیبࣰا وَسَفَرࣰا قَاصِدࣰا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَـٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُۚ وَسَیَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَوِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡنَا لَخَرَجۡنَا مَعَكُمۡ یُهۡلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝٤٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

Had it been an immediate gain and a short journey these (hypocrites) would certainly have followed you, but the hard journey seemed too distant to them, still they will swear (after your successful return) by Allah (saying), `If only we could, we would surely have marched forth with you.' They spell their own ruin, Allah knows well that they are liars

law kāna ʿaraḍan qarīban wasafaran qāṣidan la-ittabaʿūka walākin baʿudat ʿalayhimu l-shuqatu wasayaḥlifūna bil-lahi lawi is'taṭaʿnā lakharajnā maʿakum yuh'likūna anfusahum wal-lahu yaʿlamu innahum lakādhibūn

9:43

عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنكَ لِمَ أَذِنتَ لَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ یَتَبَیَّنَ لَكَ ٱلَّذِینَ صَدَقُوا۟ وَتَعۡلَمَ ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِینَ ۝٤٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

Allah set your affairs aright (and brought honour and glory to you since you pardoned the hypocrites). Why did you give them leave (to stay behind)? (You should not have given them leave) until you had clearly known those who spoke the truth (and offered genuine excuses) and you had come to know the liars

lā yastadhinuka alladhīna yu'minūna bil-lahi wal-yawmi l-ākhiri an yujāhidū bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim wal-lahu ʿalīmun bil-mutaqīn

9:44

لَا یَسۡتَءۡذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِ أَن یُجَـٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمُۢ بِٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٤٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day do not beg leave of you (to be excused) from striving hard with their possessions and their persons. And Allah is Well-Aware of those who keep their duty (to Him)

La yasta/thinuka allatheena yu/minoona biAllahi waalyawmi al-akhiri an yujahidoo bi-amwalihim waanfusihim waAllahu AAaleemun bialmuttaqeena

9:45

إِنَّمَا یَسۡتَءۡذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِ وَٱرۡتَابَتۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِی رَیۡبِهِمۡ یَتَرَدَّدُونَ ۝٤٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

They alone will beg leave of you who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day and whose hearts are full of doubts, so overwhelmed by their doubts they waver

innamā yastadhinuka alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-lahi wal-yawmi l-ākhiri wa-ir'tābat qulūbuhum fahum fī raybihim yataraddadūn

9:46

۞ وَلَوۡ أَرَادُوا۟ ٱلۡخُرُوجَ لَأَعَدُّوا۟ لَهُۥ عُدَّةࣰ وَلَـٰكِن كَرِهَ ٱللَّهُ ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمۡ فَثَبَّطَهُمۡ وَقِیلَ ٱقۡعُدُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلۡقَـٰعِدِینَ ۝٤٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

If they had (really) intended to go forth they would certainly have made some preparations (for the expedition), but Allah disliked their attending (to their duty) and He held them back and it was said (to them), `Remain back with those who stay behind.

walaw arādū l-khurūja la-aʿaddū lahu ʿuddatan walākin kariha l-lahu inbiʿāthahum fathabbaṭahum waqīla uq'ʿudū maʿa l-qāʿidīn

9:47

لَوۡ خَرَجُوا۟ فِیكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمۡ إِلَّا خَبَالࣰا وَلَأَوۡضَعُوا۟ خِلَـٰلَكُمۡ یَبۡغُونَكُمُ ٱلۡفِتۡنَةَ وَفِیكُمۡ سَمَّـٰعُونَ لَهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمُۢ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

Had they set forth with you (O believers!) they would have only added to your trouble, and they would have moved about hurriedly in your midst seeking to create disruption among you, and there are some spies in your midst who would have listened to them on their (- your enemies) behalf. And Allah is Well-Aware of these wrong-doers

law kharajū fīkum mā zādūkum illā khabālan wala-awḍaʿū khilālakum yabghūnakumu l-fit'nata wafīkum sammāʿūna lahum wal-lahu ʿalīmun bil-ẓālimīn

9:48

لَقَدِ ٱبۡتَغَوُا۟ ٱلۡفِتۡنَةَ مِن قَبۡلُ وَقَلَّبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلۡأُمُورَ حَتَّىٰ جَاۤءَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَظَهَرَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ وَهُمۡ كَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٤٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

They already sought to create dissension before this and they had been meditating plots to upset your plans till the truth became manifest and the decree of Allah prevailed, though they considered (it) hard

laqadi ib'taghawū l-fit'nata min qablu waqallabū laka l-umūra ḥattā jāa l-ḥaqu waẓahara amru l-lahi wahum kārihūn

9:49

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَقُولُ ٱئۡذَن لِّی وَلَا تَفۡتِنِّیۤۚ أَلَا فِی ٱلۡفِتۡنَةِ سَقَطُوا۟ۗ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِیطَةُۢ بِٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٤٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

And among these (hypocrites) are those who said (to you), `Grant us leave (to stay behind) and spare us the trial.' Behold! they have already fallen into the trial. And certainly Gehenna encompasses the disbelievers (for punishing them)

wamin'hum man yaqūlu i'dhan lī walā taftinnī alā fī l-fit'nati saqaṭū wa-inna jahannama lamuḥīṭatun bil-kāfirīn

9:50

إِن تُصِبۡكَ حَسَنَةࣱ تَسُؤۡهُمۡۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡكَ مُصِیبَةࣱ یَقُولُوا۟ قَدۡ أَخَذۡنَاۤ أَمۡرَنَا مِن قَبۡلُ وَیَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُمۡ فَرِحُونَ ۝٥٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

If good befalls you it grieves them, but if some hardship afflicts you they say, `We had indeed taken our precautions beforehand,' and they turn away rejoicing

in tuṣib'ka ḥasanatun tasu'hum wa-in tuṣib'ka muṣībatun yaqūlū qad akhadhnā amranā min qablu wayatawallaw wahum fariḥūn

9:51

قُل لَّن یُصِیبَنَاۤ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوۡلَىٰنَاۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥١

Amatul Rahman Omar

Say, `Nothing will afflict us but what Allah has ordained for us, He is our Patron.' And in Allah let the believers put their trust

qul lan yuṣībanā illā mā kataba l-lahu lanā huwa mawlānā waʿalā l-lahi falyatawakkali l-mu'minūn

9:52

قُلۡ هَلۡ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَاۤ إِلَّاۤ إِحۡدَى ٱلۡحُسۡنَیَیۡنِۖ وَنَحۡنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمۡ أَن یُصِیبَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابࣲ مِّنۡ عِندِهِۦۤ أَوۡ بِأَیۡدِینَاۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوۤا۟ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ ۝٥٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

Say, `You only await for us one of the two good things (- victory or martyrdom), while we await for you (one of two evils to befall) that Allah will afflict you with punishment either from Himself or at our hands. Wait then, we are (also) waiting with you (as to our respective ends)

qul hal tarabbaṣūna binā illā iḥ'dā l-ḥus'nayayni wanaḥnu natarabbaṣu bikum an yuṣībakumu l-lahu biʿadhābin min ʿindihi aw bi-aydīnā fatarabbaṣū innā maʿakum mutarabbiṣūn

9:53

قُلۡ أَنفِقُوا۟ طَوۡعًا أَوۡ كَرۡهࣰا لَّن یُتَقَبَّلَ مِنكُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣰا فَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٥٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

Say, `Whether you spend willingly or unwillingly, this (- your charity) shall never be accepted from you, for you are indeed a people ever disobedient.

qul anfiqū ṭawʿan aw karhan lan yutaqabbala minkum innakum kuntum qawman fāsiqīn

9:54

وَمَا مَنَعَهُمۡ أَن تُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُمۡ نَفَقَـٰتُهُمۡ إِلَّاۤ أَنَّهُمۡ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا یَأۡتُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ إِلَّا وَهُمۡ كُسَالَىٰ وَلَا یُنفِقُونَ إِلَّا وَهُمۡ كَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٥٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

And nothing prevents their contributions from being accepted except that they (practically) disbelieve in Allah and His Messenger and they perform not the Prayer but lazily and they spend not (in the cause of Allah) but reluctantly

wamā manaʿahum an tuq'bala min'hum nafaqātuhum illā annahum kafarū bil-lahi wabirasūlihi walā yatūna l-ṣalata illā wahum kusālā walā yunfiqūna illā wahum kārihūn

9:55

فَلَا تُعۡجِبۡكَ أَمۡوَ ٰلُهُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَوۡلَـٰدُهُمۡۚ إِنَّمَا یُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ لِیُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَتَزۡهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٥٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

So let not their riches nor their children make you wonder. Allah only intends to punish them therewith in the present life and (that) their souls may depart while they are disbelievers

falā tuʿ'jib'ka amwāluhum walā awlāduhum innamā yurīdu l-lahu liyuʿadhibahum bihā fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā watazhaqa anfusuhum wahum kāfirūn

9:56

وَیَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمِنكُمۡ وَمَا هُم مِّنكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ یَفۡرَقُونَ ۝٥٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

And they swear by Allah that they indeed belong to you, but they do not belong to you, on the other hand they are too timid a people (to appear in their true colours)

wayaḥlifūna bil-lahi innahum laminkum wamā hum minkum walākinnahum qawmun yafraqūn

9:57

لَوۡ یَجِدُونَ مَلۡجَءًا أَوۡ مَغَـٰرَ ٰتٍ أَوۡ مُدَّخَلࣰا لَّوَلَّوۡا۟ إِلَیۡهِ وَهُمۡ یَجۡمَحُونَ ۝٥٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

Could they find a shelter or some caverns or any (other) place to enter into, they would certainly have turned thereto rushing headlong (for it)

law yajidūna malja-an aw maghārātin aw muddakhalan lawallaw ilayhi wahum yajmaḥūn

9:58

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَلۡمِزُكَ فِی ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتِ فَإِنۡ أُعۡطُوا۟ مِنۡهَا رَضُوا۟ وَإِن لَّمۡ یُعۡطَوۡا۟ مِنۡهَاۤ إِذَا هُمۡ یَسۡخَطُونَ ۝٥٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

And some of these (hypocrites) are those who find fault with you in the (distribution of) charities. If they are given a share out of it, they are pleased, but if they are not given any share out of it, they at once feel offended

wamin'hum man yalmizuka fī l-ṣadaqāti fa-in uʿ'ṭū min'hā raḍū wa-in lam yuʿ'ṭaw min'hā idhā hum yaskhaṭūn

9:59

وَلَوۡ أَنَّهُمۡ رَضُوا۟ مَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَقَالُوا۟ حَسۡبُنَا ٱللَّهُ سَیُؤۡتِینَا ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَرَسُولُهُۥۤ إِنَّاۤ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ رَ ٰغِبُونَ ۝٥٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

(It would have been better for them) if they had been well content with what Allah and His Messenger had given them, and had said, `Sufficient for us is Allah. Allah will grant us out of His bounty and so will His Messenger. Surely, to Allah alone do we turn in supplication.

walaw annahum raḍū mā ātāhumu l-lahu warasūluhu waqālū ḥasbunā l-lahu sayu'tīnā l-lahu min faḍlihi warasūluhu innā ilā l-lahi rāghibūn

9:60

۞ إِنَّمَا ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتُ لِلۡفُقَرَاۤءِ وَٱلۡمَسَـٰكِینِ وَٱلۡعَـٰمِلِینَ عَلَیۡهَا وَٱلۡمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمۡ وَفِی ٱلرِّقَابِ وَٱلۡغَـٰرِمِینَ وَفِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبۡنِ ٱلسَّبِیلِۖ فَرِیضَةࣰ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٦٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

Compulsory charities (- Zakat) are meant for the destitute and the needy, and for its functionaries, and (for) those whose hearts require to be consoled (in all sincerity), and for the emancipation of the slaves, and for (the relief of) those in debt, and (for spending) in the cause of Allah, and for the wayfarer. (This is) an obligation imposed by Allah, for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise

innamā l-ṣadaqātu lil'fuqarāi wal-masākīni wal-ʿāmilīna ʿalayhā wal-mu-alafati qulūbuhum wafī l-riqābi wal-ghārimīna wafī sabīli l-lahi wa-ib'ni l-sabīli farīḍatan mina l-lahi wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

9:61

وَمِنۡهُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡذُونَ ٱلنَّبِیَّ وَیَقُولُونَ هُوَ أُذُنࣱۚ قُلۡ أُذُنُ خَیۡرࣲ لَّكُمۡ یُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَیُؤۡمِنُ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَرَحۡمَةࣱ لِّلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنكُمۡۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡذُونَ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٦١

Amatul Rahman Omar

And among these (hypocrites) are those who talk ill of the Prophet and say, `He gives ear to all.' Say, `His giving ear to all is to your own good. He believes in Allah and trusts the faithful, and he is a great mercy for those of you who believe.' And there awaits a grievous punishment for those who talk ill of the Messenger of Allah

wamin'humu alladhīna yu'dhūna l-nabiya wayaqūlūna huwa udhunun qul udhunu khayrin lakum yu'minu bil-lahi wayu'minu lil'mu'minīna waraḥmatun lilladhīna āmanū minkum wa-alladhīna yu'dhūna rasūla l-lahi lahum ʿadhābun alīmu

9:62

یَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَكُمۡ لِیُرۡضُوكُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥۤ أَحَقُّ أَن یُرۡضُوهُ إِن كَانُوا۟ مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٦٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

They swear by Allah to you to please you (O believers!). If they were true believers they should realize that Allah, as well as His Messenger, is more worthy that they should please Him (with their belief in the truth and their righteous deeds)

yaḥlifūna bil-lahi lakum liyur'ḍūkum wal-lahu warasūluhu aḥaqqu an yur'ḍūhu in kānū mu'minīn

9:63

أَلَمۡ یَعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّهُۥ مَن یُحَادِدِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَأَنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدࣰا فِیهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡخِزۡیُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٦٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

Have they not (yet) known that whosoever opposes Allah and His Messenger merits, of course, the Fire of Gehenna wherein he shall abide? That is the great humiliation indeed

alam yaʿlamū annahu man yuḥādidi l-laha warasūlahu fa-anna lahu nāra jahannama khālidan fīhā dhālika l-khiz'yu l-ʿaẓīm

9:64

یَحۡذَرُ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقُونَ أَن تُنَزَّلَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ سُورَةࣱ تُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا فِی قُلُوبِهِمۡۚ قُلِ ٱسۡتَهۡزِءُوۤا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡرِجࣱ مَّا تَحۡذَرُونَ ۝٦٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

Some of the hypocrites (only pretend to) fear that a Surah might be revealed to them(- the believers) against them, that may acquaint them of what is hidden in their (- hypocrites') minds. Say, `Take it lightly (if you must), Allah will surely bring to light what you (simply pretend to) fear (about being disclosed).

yaḥdharu l-munāfiqūna an tunazzala ʿalayhim sūratun tunabbi-uhum bimā fī qulūbihim quli is'tahziū inna l-laha mukh'rijun mā taḥdharūn

9:65

وَلَىِٕن سَأَلۡتَهُمۡ لَیَقُولُنَّ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوضُ وَنَلۡعَبُۚ قُلۡ أَبِٱللَّهِ وَءَایَـٰتِهِۦ وَرَسُولِهِۦ كُنتُمۡ تَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٦٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

And if you (thereupon) ask them (to explain their conduct) they will certainly say, `We were talking idly and just making a jest.' Say, `Is it of (the Almighty Being like) Allah and His revelations and His Messenger that you (dare to) talk so lightly (could you find none else for the purpose!)

wala-in sa-altahum layaqūlunna innamā kunnā nakhūḍu wanalʿabu qul abil-lahi waāyātihi warasūlihi kuntum tastahziūn

9:66

لَا تَعۡتَذِرُوا۟ قَدۡ كَفَرۡتُم بَعۡدَ إِیمَـٰنِكُمۡۚ إِن نَّعۡفُ عَن طَاۤىِٕفَةࣲ مِّنكُمۡ نُعَذِّبۡ طَاۤىِٕفَةَۢ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ مُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٦٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

`Make no (false) excuses (now), you have certainly disbelieved after your confession of belief. Even if We forgive one party of you, We will punish the (people of the) other party for they are steeped in sin.

lā taʿtadhirū qad kafartum baʿda īmānikum in naʿfu ʿan ṭāifatin minkum nuʿadhib ṭāifatan bi-annahum kānū muj'rimīn

9:67

ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقُونَ وَٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتُ بَعۡضُهُم مِّنۢ بَعۡضࣲۚ یَأۡمُرُونَ بِٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَیَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ ٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَیَقۡبِضُونَ أَیۡدِیَهُمۡۚ نَسُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَنَسِیَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِینَ هُمُ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقُونَ ۝٦٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

The hypocrites, both men and women, are all (strictly) alike. They enjoin the wrong and forbid the right and withhold their hands (from spending for the cause of Allah). They have forsaken Allah, so He (too) has forsaken them. It is the hypocrites who have truly been the rebellious

al-munāfiqūna wal-munāfiqātu baʿḍuhum min baʿḍin yamurūna bil-munkari wayanhawna ʿani l-maʿrūfi wayaqbiḍūna aydiyahum nasū l-laha fanasiyahum inna l-munāfiqīna humu l-fāsiqūn

9:68

وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِینَ وَٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتِ وَٱلۡكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۚ هِیَ حَسۡبُهُمۡۚ وَلَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ مُّقِیمࣱ ۝٦٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

Allah has promised the hypocrites, both men and women, and the disbelievers, the Fire of Gehenna; they shall abide therein. It is sufficient for them. Allah has rejected them. And for them there awaits a long-lasting punishment

waʿada l-lahu l-munāfiqīna wal-munāfiqāti wal-kufāra nāra jahannama khālidīna fīhā hiya ḥasbuhum walaʿanahumu l-lahu walahum ʿadhābun muqīmu

9:69

كَٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ كَانُوۤا۟ أَشَدَّ مِنكُمۡ قُوَّةࣰ وَأَكۡثَرَ أَمۡوَ ٰلࣰا وَأَوۡلَـٰدࣰا فَٱسۡتَمۡتَعُوا۟ بِخَلَـٰقِهِمۡ فَٱسۡتَمۡتَعۡتُم بِخَلَـٰقِكُمۡ كَمَا ٱسۡتَمۡتَعَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِكُم بِخَلَـٰقِهِمۡ وَخُضۡتُمۡ كَٱلَّذِی خَاضُوۤا۟ۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ حَبِطَتۡ أَعۡمَـٰلُهُمۡ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٦٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

(Say to hypocrites,) `You are like your predecessors. (But) they were mightier than you in strength and richer in possessions and children. Then they enjoyed their lot for a short time; so you too have enjoyed your lot as your predecessors enjoyed theirs. And you indulged in idle talk as they did (but remember), it is these whose deeds have gone in vain in this world and the Hereafter, and it is these who are completely lost.

ka-alladhīna min qablikum kānū ashadda minkum quwwatan wa-akthara amwālan wa-awlādan fa-is'tamtaʿū bikhalāqihim fa-is'tamtaʿtum bikhalāqikum kamā is'tamtaʿa alladhīna min qablikum bikhalāqihim wakhuḍ'tum ka-alladhī khāḍū ulāika ḥabiṭat aʿmāluhum fī l-dun'yā wal-ākhirati wa-ulāika humu l-khāsirūn

9:70

أَلَمۡ یَأۡتِهِمۡ نَبَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ قَوۡمِ نُوحࣲ وَعَادࣲ وَثَمُودَ وَقَوۡمِ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ وَأَصۡحَـٰبِ مَدۡیَنَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَـٰتِۚ أَتَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِۖ فَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِیَظۡلِمَهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝٧٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

Have they not heard the news of their predecessors, of the people of Noah, 'Ad and Thamud and of the people of Abraham and of the dwellers of Midian, and of the cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah) which were overthrown? There had come to them their Messengers (of God) with clear proofs (but they denied them and suffered the consequences thereof). So it was not Allah who dealt with them unjustly but they did injustice to themselves

alam yatihim naba-u alladhīna min qablihim qawmi nūḥin waʿādin wathamūda waqawmi ib'rāhīma wa-aṣḥābi madyana wal-mu'tafikāti atathum rusuluhum bil-bayināti famā kāna l-lahu liyaẓlimahum walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn

9:71

وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتُ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءُ بَعۡضࣲۚ یَأۡمُرُونَ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَیَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَیُقِیمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَیُؤۡتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَیُطِیعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۤۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ سَیَرۡحَمُهُمُ ٱللَّهُۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٧١

Amatul Rahman Omar

And the believing men and women both are friends one of another. They enjoin the right and forbid the wrong and observe Prayer and go on presenting the Zakat and obey Allah and His Messenger. It is these on whom Allah will certainly have mercy. Surely, Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise

wal-mu'minūna wal-mu'minātu baʿḍuhum awliyāu baʿḍin yamurūna bil-maʿrūfi wayanhawna ʿani l-munkari wayuqīmūna l-ṣalata wayu'tūna l-zakata wayuṭīʿūna l-laha warasūlahu ulāika sayarḥamuhumu l-lahu inna l-laha ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

9:72

وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَا وَمَسَـٰكِنَ طَیِّبَةࣰ فِی جَنَّـٰتِ عَدۡنࣲۚ وَرِضۡوَ ٰنࣱ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ أَكۡبَرُۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٧٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

Allah has promised the believing men and women both, Gardens served with running streams, they shall abide therein; and (He has also promised them) delightful and goodly dwelling places in Gardens of Eternity. And Allah's good pleasure is the greatest (blessing) of all. That is the most sublime achievement

waʿada l-lahu l-mu'minīna wal-mu'mināti jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā wamasākina ṭayyibatan fī jannāti ʿadnin wariḍ'wānun mina l-lahi akbaru dhālika huwa l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm

9:73

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ جَـٰهِدِ ٱلۡكُفَّارَ وَٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِینَ وَٱغۡلُظۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٧٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

O Prophet! strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and remain strictly firm against them. Their abode is Gehenna. What an evil resort it is

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu jāhidi l-kufāra wal-munāfiqīna wa-ugh'luẓ ʿalayhim wamawāhum jahannamu wabi'sa l-maṣīr

9:74

یَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ مَا قَالُوا۟ وَلَقَدۡ قَالُوا۟ كَلِمَةَ ٱلۡكُفۡرِ وَكَفَرُوا۟ بَعۡدَ إِسۡلَـٰمِهِمۡ وَهَمُّوا۟ بِمَا لَمۡ یَنَالُوا۟ۚ وَمَا نَقَمُوۤا۟ إِلَّاۤ أَنۡ أَغۡنَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦۚ فَإِن یَتُوبُوا۟ یَكُ خَیۡرࣰا لَّهُمۡۖ وَإِن یَتَوَلَّوۡا۟ یُعَذِّبۡهُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَذَابًا أَلِیمࣰا فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۚ وَمَا لَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِن وَلِیࣲّ وَلَا نَصِیرࣲ ۝٧٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

These( hypocrites) swear by Allah that they have said nothing (wrong), whereas they had certainly spoken the word of blasphemy and took to the ways of disbelief after their having embraced Islam, and they meditated that which they could never attain. And they cherished hatred (against believers) for no other reason but that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them out of His bounty, If they repent it would be good for them, but if they remain averse Allah will punish them with a grievous punishment in this world and in the Hereafter, and they shall find neither a patron nor a helper in the entire land

yaḥlifūna bil-lahi mā qālū walaqad qālū kalimata l-kuf'ri wakafarū baʿda is'lāmihim wahammū bimā lam yanālū wamā naqamū illā an aghnāhumu l-lahu warasūluhu min faḍlihi fa-in yatūbū yaku khayran lahum wa-in yatawallaw yuʿadhib'humu l-lahu ʿadhāban alīman fī l-dun'yā wal-ākhirati wamā lahum fī l-arḍi min waliyyin walā naṣīri

9:75

۞ وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ عَـٰهَدَ ٱللَّهَ لَىِٕنۡ ءَاتَىٰنَا مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ لَنَصَّدَّقَنَّ وَلَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝٧٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

Some among them are those who made a covenant with Allah (saying), `If He grants us of His bounty we would most assuredly give alms and be certainly of the righteous (after reforming ourselves)

wamin'hum man ʿāhada l-laha la-in ātānā min faḍlihi lanaṣṣaddaqanna walanakūnanna mina l-ṣāliḥīn

9:76

فَلَمَّاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُم مِّن فَضۡلِهِۦ بَخِلُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝٧٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

But when He granted them of His bounty they hoarded it and they went back (upon their covenant) and they were averse (to righteousness)

falammā ātāhum min faḍlihi bakhilū bihi watawallaw wahum muʿ'riḍūn

9:77

فَأَعۡقَبَهُمۡ نِفَاقࣰا فِی قُلُوبِهِمۡ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یَلۡقَوۡنَهُۥ بِمَاۤ أَخۡلَفُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا وَعَدُوهُ وَبِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡذِبُونَ ۝٧٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

Consequently He has punished them by infesting their hearts with hypocrisy lasting till the day they shall meet Him. (This was) because they broke their word to Allah which they had given Him and because they indulged in lies

fa-aʿqabahum nifāqan fī qulūbihim ilā yawmi yalqawnahu bimā akhlafū l-laha mā waʿadūhu wabimā kānū yakdhibūn

9:78

أَلَمۡ یَعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَعۡلَمُ سِرَّهُمۡ وَنَجۡوَىٰهُمۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَّـٰمُ ٱلۡغُیُوبِ ۝٧٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

Have they not known (yet) that Allah is aware of their hidden thoughts and their private counsels and that Allah is fully Aware of all hidden realities

alam yaʿlamū anna l-laha yaʿlamu sirrahum wanajwāhum wa-anna l-laha ʿallāmu l-ghuyūb

9:79

ٱلَّذِینَ یَلۡمِزُونَ ٱلۡمُطَّوِّعِینَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ فِی ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتِ وَٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَجِدُونَ إِلَّا جُهۡدَهُمۡ فَیَسۡخَرُونَ مِنۡهُمۡ سَخِرَ ٱللَّهُ مِنۡهُمۡ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمٌ ۝٧٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

(It is the hypocrites) who find fault with those of the believers who give alms voluntarily and freely and deride such believers who find nothing (to contribute) except their service (or the meager fruit of their toil). Allah shall look down upon them (for their derision) and for them is a grievous punishment

alladhīna yalmizūna l-muṭawiʿīna mina l-mu'minīna fī l-ṣadaqāti wa-alladhīna lā yajidūna illā juh'dahum fayaskharūna min'hum sakhira l-lahu min'hum walahum ʿadhābun alīmu

9:80

ٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُمۡ أَوۡ لَا تَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُمۡ إِن تَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُمۡ سَبۡعِینَ مَرَّةࣰ فَلَن یَغۡفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا یَهۡدِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٨٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

(It makes no difference to them) whether you ask protection (of God from sins) for these (hypocrites) or you do not ask protection for them. Even if you ask protection for them seventy times Allah will never protect them (against the consequences of their sins). That is because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and Allah guides no perfidious people (in the ways of success)

is'taghfir lahum aw lā tastaghfir lahum in tastaghfir lahum sabʿīna marratan falan yaghfira l-lahu lahum dhālika bi-annahum kafarū bil-lahi warasūlihi wal-lahu lā yahdī l-qawma l-fāsiqīn

9:81

فَرِحَ ٱلۡمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقۡعَدِهِمۡ خِلَـٰفَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَرِهُوۤا۟ أَن یُجَـٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَنفِرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡحَرِّۗ قُلۡ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرࣰّاۚ لَّوۡ كَانُوا۟ یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝٨١

Amatul Rahman Omar

Those who were left behind (in the Tabuk expedition because of their making false excuses) rejoiced in their staying (at home) behind the Messenger of Allah. They found it hard to strive with their possessions and their persons in the cause of Allah. And they said (one to another), `Go not forth to fight in the heat.' Say, `The fire of Gehenna is even more intense in heat.' If only they could understand (it)

fariḥa l-mukhalafūna bimaqʿadihim khilāfa rasūli l-lahi wakarihū an yujāhidū bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim fī sabīli l-lahi waqālū lā tanfirū fī l-ḥari qul nāru jahannama ashaddu ḥarran law kānū yafqahūn

9:82

فَلۡیَضۡحَكُوا۟ قَلِیلࣰا وَلۡیَبۡكُوا۟ كَثِیرࣰا جَزَاۤءَۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٨٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

(Well!) let them laugh a little (now) as they have to weep much more to recompense for what they have wrought

falyaḍḥakū qalīlan walyabkū kathīran jazāan bimā kānū yaksibūn

9:83

فَإِن رَّجَعَكَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَىٰ طَاۤىِٕفَةࣲ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَٱسۡتَءۡذَنُوكَ لِلۡخُرُوجِ فَقُل لَّن تَخۡرُجُوا۟ مَعِیَ أَبَدࣰا وَلَن تُقَـٰتِلُوا۟ مَعِیَ عَدُوًّاۖ إِنَّكُمۡ رَضِیتُم بِٱلۡقُعُودِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲ فَٱقۡعُدُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِفِینَ ۝٨٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

Should Allah bring you (safe and sound) back (from Tabuk expedition) and you meet a party of them (- the hypocrites), and they ask leave of you to go forth (to join the next expedition with you) say, `You shall never go forth with me, nor ever fight an enemy with me. You chose to stay (at home) the first time, now stay with those who remain behind.

fa-in rajaʿaka l-lahu ilā ṭāifatin min'hum fa-is'tadhanūka lil'khurūji faqul lan takhrujū maʿiya abadan walan tuqātilū maʿiya ʿaduwwan innakum raḍītum bil-quʿūdi awwala marratin fa-uq'ʿudū maʿa l-khālifīn

9:84

وَلَا تُصَلِّ عَلَىٰۤ أَحَدࣲ مِّنۡهُم مَّاتَ أَبَدࣰا وَلَا تَقُمۡ عَلَىٰ قَبۡرِهِۦۤۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمۡ فَـٰسِقُونَ ۝٨٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

Nor shall you ever offer (Janazah or a funeral) Prayer for any one of them who dies, nor stand by the grave of any one of them (to pray), for they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were (still) disobedient

walā tuṣalli ʿalā aḥadin min'hum māta abadan walā taqum ʿalā qabrihi innahum kafarū bil-lahi warasūlihi wamātū wahum fāsiqūn

9:85

وَلَا تُعۡجِبۡكَ أَمۡوَ ٰلُهُمۡ وَأَوۡلَـٰدُهُمۡۚ إِنَّمَا یُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن یُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَتَزۡهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٨٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

And let not their possessions and their children cause you to wonder. Allah only intends to punish them in this life through them (their possessions and children), and that their souls depart while they are still disbelievers

walā tuʿ'jib'ka amwāluhum wa-awlāduhum innamā yurīdu l-lahu an yuʿadhibahum bihā fī l-dun'yā watazhaqa anfusuhum wahum kāfirūn

9:86

وَإِذَاۤ أُنزِلَتۡ سُورَةٌ أَنۡ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَجَـٰهِدُوا۟ مَعَ رَسُولِهِ ٱسۡتَءۡذَنَكَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلطَّوۡلِ مِنۡهُمۡ وَقَالُوا۟ ذَرۡنَا نَكُن مَّعَ ٱلۡقَـٰعِدِینَ ۝٨٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

And when a Surah (- Qur'anic chapter) is revealed (enjoining), `Believe in Allah and strive along with His Messenger (in the cause of Allah) even the well-to-do among them ask leave of you and say, `Leave us alone to be with those who stay (at home).

wa-idhā unzilat sūratun an āminū bil-lahi wajāhidū maʿa rasūlihi is'tadhanaka ulū l-ṭawli min'hum waqālū dharnā nakun maʿa l-qāʿidīn

9:87

رَضُوا۟ بِأَن یَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلۡخَوَالِفِ وَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝٨٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

They are pleased to be (counted) with the misbehaved and worthless (folk) and a seal has been set upon their hearts so that they do not understand

raḍū bi-an yakūnū maʿa l-khawālifi waṭubiʿa ʿalā qulūbihim fahum lā yafqahūn

9:88

لَـٰكِنِ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتُۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٨٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

But the Messenger and those who believed with him strove hard (in the cause of Allah) with their possessions and their persons, it is these who shall have all the good things and it is these who shall attain their goal

lākini l-rasūlu wa-alladhīna āmanū maʿahu jāhadū bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim wa-ulāika lahumu l-khayrātu wa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

9:89

أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٨٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

Allah has provided them Gardens served with running streams (to keep them green and flourishing). Therein they shall abide. That is the sublime achievement

aʿadda l-lahu lahum jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā dhālika l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm

9:90

وَجَاۤءَ ٱلۡمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ لِیُؤۡذَنَ لَهُمۡ وَقَعَدَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَبُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۚ سَیُصِیبُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنۡهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٩٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

And those who make false excuses from among the Arabs of the desert, came (with the request) that leave (- to stay away from defensive fighting) might be given them. And those who made false promises to Allah and His Messenger stayed (at home). There shall befall those who stuck to disbelief from among them a grievous punishment

wajāa l-muʿadhirūna mina l-aʿrābi liyu'dhana lahum waqaʿada alladhīna kadhabū l-laha warasūlahu sayuṣību alladhīna kafarū min'hum ʿadhābun alīmu

9:91

لَّیۡسَ عَلَى ٱلضُّعَفَاۤءِ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلۡمَرۡضَىٰ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَجِدُونَ مَا یُنفِقُونَ حَرَجٌ إِذَا نَصَحُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦۚ مَا عَلَى ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ مِن سَبِیلࣲۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٩١

Amatul Rahman Omar

(For being unable to proceed on to defensive fighting) no blame lies on the weak, nor on the sick, nor on those who find nothing that they could spend, provided they are sincere and true to Allah and His Messenger. There is no way (of reproach) against the doers of good to others. And Allah is Great Protector, Ever Merciful

laysa ʿalā l-ḍuʿafāi walā ʿalā l-marḍā walā ʿalā alladhīna lā yajidūna mā yunfiqūna ḥarajun idhā naṣaḥū lillahi warasūlihi mā ʿalā l-muḥ'sinīna min sabīlin wal-lahu ghafūrun raḥīmu

9:92

وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ إِذَا مَاۤ أَتَوۡكَ لِتَحۡمِلَهُمۡ قُلۡتَ لَاۤ أَجِدُ مَاۤ أَحۡمِلُكُمۡ عَلَیۡهِ تَوَلَّوا۟ وَّأَعۡیُنُهُمۡ تَفِیضُ مِنَ ٱلدَّمۡعِ حَزَنًا أَلَّا یَجِدُوا۟ مَا یُنفِقُونَ ۝٩٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

Nor (a blame lies) on those whom when they came to you ( Prophet! with the request) that you should mount them, you said, `I find not whereon I may mount you.' They then turned away (helpless as they were) while their eyes were overflowing with tears of grief because they could find nothing that they could spend

walā ʿalā alladhīna idhā mā atawka litaḥmilahum qul'ta lā ajidu mā aḥmilukum ʿalayhi tawallaw wa-aʿyunuhum tafīḍu mina l-damʿi ḥazanan allā yajidū mā yunfiqūn

9:93

۞ إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِیلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ یَسۡتَءۡذِنُونَكَ وَهُمۡ أَغۡنِیَاۤءُۚ رَضُوا۟ بِأَن یَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلۡخَوَالِفِ وَطَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٩٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

Blame shall lie only on those who beg leave of you though they are rich. They have chosen to be (numbered) with the misbehaved and worthless (folk). And Allah has set a seal upon their hearts so that they are not aware (of their loss)

innamā l-sabīlu ʿalā alladhīna yastadhinūnaka wahum aghniyāu raḍū bi-an yakūnū maʿa l-khawālifi waṭabaʿa l-lahu ʿalā qulūbihim fahum lā yaʿlamūn

9:94

یَعۡتَذِرُونَ إِلَیۡكُمۡ إِذَا رَجَعۡتُمۡ إِلَیۡهِمۡۚ قُل لَّا تَعۡتَذِرُوا۟ لَن نُّؤۡمِنَ لَكُمۡ قَدۡ نَبَّأَنَا ٱللَّهُ مِنۡ أَخۡبَارِكُمۡۚ وَسَیَرَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمۡ وَرَسُولُهُۥ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَـٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَیُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٩٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

These (hypocrites) will make (false) excuses to you when you return to them (after the expedition to Tabuk. You should at that time) say (to them), `Make no excuses, we shall never believe you; Allah has already fully informed us of all the facts relating to you. Allah will (henceforth) watch your conduct and (so will) His Messenger. Then (at length) you will be brought before Him Who knows the hidden as well as the manifest realities He will then inform you fully about your deeds.

yaʿtadhirūna ilaykum idhā rajaʿtum ilayhim qul lā taʿtadhirū lan nu'mina lakum qad nabba-anā l-lahu min akhbārikum wasayarā l-lahu ʿamalakum warasūluhu thumma turaddūna ilā ʿālimi l-ghaybi wal-shahādati fayunabbi-ukum bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

9:95

سَیَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَكُمۡ إِذَا ٱنقَلَبۡتُمۡ إِلَیۡهِمۡ لِتُعۡرِضُوا۟ عَنۡهُمۡۖ فَأَعۡرِضُوا۟ عَنۡهُمۡۖ إِنَّهُمۡ رِجۡسࣱۖ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُ جَزَاۤءَۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٩٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

When you go back to them they will certainly swear to you by Allah (that they had a genuine excuse) so that you may leave them alone (without reproaching them). So let them alone. Surely, they are altogether unclean and their resort is Gehenna; a deserving recompense for what they wont to do

sayaḥlifūna bil-lahi lakum idhā inqalabtum ilayhim lituʿ'riḍū ʿanhum fa-aʿriḍū ʿanhum innahum rij'sun wamawāhum jahannamu jazāan bimā kānū yaksibūn

9:96

یَحۡلِفُونَ لَكُمۡ لِتَرۡضَوۡا۟ عَنۡهُمۡۖ فَإِن تَرۡضَوۡا۟ عَنۡهُمۡ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَرۡضَىٰ عَنِ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٩٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

They will swear to you that you may be pleased with them; but even if you are pleased with them (they should know that) Allah will not be pleased with the disobedient people

yaḥlifūna lakum litarḍaw ʿanhum fa-in tarḍaw ʿanhum fa-inna l-laha lā yarḍā ʿani l-qawmi l-fāsiqīn

9:97

ٱلۡأَعۡرَابُ أَشَدُّ كُفۡرࣰا وَنِفَاقࣰا وَأَجۡدَرُ أَلَّا یَعۡلَمُوا۟ حُدُودَ مَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٩٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

The (disbelievers among the) Arabs of the desert are the most stubborn in disbelief and hypocrisy and the most prone not to know the limits of (law) which Allah has revealed to His Messenger. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise

al-aʿrābu ashaddu kuf'ran wanifāqan wa-ajdaru allā yaʿlamū ḥudūda mā anzala l-lahu ʿalā rasūlihi wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

9:98

وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ مَن یَتَّخِذُ مَا یُنفِقُ مَغۡرَمࣰا وَیَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمُ ٱلدَّوَاۤىِٕرَۚ عَلَیۡهِمۡ دَاۤىِٕرَةُ ٱلسَّوۡءِۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٩٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

And some of the Arabs of the desert regard whatever they spend (in the cause of Allah) as an undue fine, and they wait for the calamities to (befall) you. On themselves (shall fall) an even worse calamity. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing

wamina l-aʿrābi man yattakhidhu mā yunfiqu maghraman wayatarabbaṣu bikumu l-dawāira ʿalayhim dāiratu l-sawi wal-lahu samīʿun ʿalīmu

9:99

وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ مَن یُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِ وَیَتَّخِذُ مَا یُنفِقُ قُرُبَـٰتٍ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَصَلَوَ ٰتِ ٱلرَّسُولِۚ أَلَاۤ إِنَّهَا قُرۡبَةࣱ لَّهُمۡۚ سَیُدۡخِلُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِی رَحۡمَتِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٩٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

And some of the Arabs of the desert are such as believe in Allah and the Last Day and regard whatever they spend (in the cause of Allah) as means of bringing themselves close to Allah and (of earning) the blessings of the Messenger. Listen, it is surely a means of bringing them close (to Him). Allah will certainly admit them to His mercy. Surely, Allah is Great Protector, Ever Merciful

wamina l-aʿrābi man yu'minu bil-lahi wal-yawmi l-ākhiri wayattakhidhu mā yunfiqu qurubātin ʿinda l-lahi waṣalawāti l-rasūli alā innahā qur'batun lahum sayud'khiluhumu l-lahu fī raḥmatihi inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

9:100

وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِینَ وَٱلۡأَنصَارِ وَٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُم بِإِحۡسَـٰنࣲ رَّضِیَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَرَضُوا۟ عَنۡهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی تَحۡتَهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَبَدࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝١٠٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (as for) the foremost (in spiritual rank, outstripping others in faith and righteous actions) and the first (to embrace Islam) from among the Emigrants and the Helpers and those who followed their example in the best possible manner, Allah is well-pleased with them and they are well-pleased with Him, He has provided for them Gardens served with running streams (to keep them green and flourishing). They will abide therein for ever. That indeed is the most sublime achievement

wal-sābiqūna l-awalūna mina l-muhājirīna wal-anṣāri wa-alladhīna ittabaʿūhum bi-iḥ'sānin raḍiya l-lahu ʿanhum waraḍū ʿanhu wa-aʿadda lahum jannātin tajrī taḥtahā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā abadan dhālika l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm

9:101

وَمِمَّنۡ حَوۡلَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ مُنَـٰفِقُونَۖ وَمِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ مَرَدُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنِّفَاقِ لَا تَعۡلَمُهُمۡۖ نَحۡنُ نَعۡلَمُهُمۡۚ سَنُعَذِّبُهُم مَّرَّتَیۡنِ ثُمَّ یُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝١٠١

Amatul Rahman Omar

Some of the Arabs of the desert living around you and some of the people of Madinah (also) are hypocrites. They persist in and are habituated to hypocrisy, you know them not, but We know them. We will punish them again and again (in this life), then they shall be made to revert to a greater punishment (in the Hereafter)

wamimman ḥawlakum mina l-aʿrābi munāfiqūna wamin ahli l-madīnati maradū ʿalā l-nifāqi lā taʿlamuhum naḥnu naʿlamuhum sanuʿadhibuhum marratayni thumma yuraddūna ilā ʿadhābin ʿaẓīmi

9:102

وَءَاخَرُونَ ٱعۡتَرَفُوا۟ بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ خَلَطُوا۟ عَمَلࣰا صَـٰلِحࣰا وَءَاخَرَ سَیِّئًا عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن یَتُوبَ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ۝١٠٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

And there are others, (among those who stayed behind), who have confessed their faults, they have linked up one good deed with another which is bad, (so their deeds are both good and bad). Allah is likely to turn to them with mercy. Verily, Allah is Great Protector, Ever Merciful

waākharūna iʿ'tarafū bidhunūbihim khalaṭū ʿamalan ṣāliḥan waākhara sayyi-an ʿasā l-lahu an yatūba ʿalayhim inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

9:103

خُذۡ مِنۡ أَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ صَدَقَةࣰ تُطَهِّرُهُمۡ وَتُزَكِّیهِم بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَیۡهِمۡۖ إِنَّ صَلَوٰتَكَ سَكَنࣱ لَّهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمٌ ۝١٠٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

(Prophet!) take a portion of their possessions as Zakat so that you may thereby purify them (of their evils) and enhance them in their virtuous deeds, and pray for them, your prayer is indeed a (source of) solace for them. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing

khudh min amwālihim ṣadaqatan tuṭahhiruhum watuzakkīhim bihā waṣalli ʿalayhim inna ṣalataka sakanun lahum wal-lahu samīʿun ʿalīmu

9:104

أَلَمۡ یَعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ یَقۡبَلُ ٱلتَّوۡبَةَ عَنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ وَیَأۡخُذُ ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝١٠٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

Do they not know that Allah is He Who accepts repentance from His servants and accepts their alms and that Allah is He Who is Oft-Returning (with compassion), Ever Merciful

alam yaʿlamū anna l-laha huwa yaqbalu l-tawbata ʿan ʿibādihi wayakhudhu l-ṣadaqāti wa-anna l-laha huwa l-tawābu l-raḥīm

9:105

وَقُلِ ٱعۡمَلُوا۟ فَسَیَرَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمۡ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَۖ وَسَتُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَـٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَیُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٠٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

And say, `Go on doing (as you like), Allah will surely keep an eye on your deeds and (so will) His Messenger and the believers, and you will surely be brought back to Him Who knows the hidden and the manifest realities, then He will tell you all that you have been doing

waquli iʿ'malū fasayarā l-lahu ʿamalakum warasūluhu wal-mu'minūna wasaturaddūna ilā ʿālimi l-ghaybi wal-shahādati fayunabbi-ukum bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

9:106

وَءَاخَرُونَ مُرۡجَوۡنَ لِأَمۡرِ ٱللَّهِ إِمَّا یُعَذِّبُهُمۡ وَإِمَّا یَتُوبُ عَلَیۡهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝١٠٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

And there are (yet) others (among those who stayed behind and whose case has been deferred and) who are made to wait for the decree of Allah. May be He punishes them or may be He turns to them (with mercy). Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise

waākharūna mur'jawna li-amri l-lahi immā yuʿadhibuhum wa-immā yatūbu ʿalayhim wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

9:107

وَٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مَسۡجِدࣰا ضِرَارࣰا وَكُفۡرࣰا وَتَفۡرِیقَۢا بَیۡنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَإِرۡصَادࣰا لِّمَنۡ حَارَبَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُۚ وَلَیَحۡلِفُنَّ إِنۡ أَرَدۡنَاۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۖ وَٱللَّهُ یَشۡهَدُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝١٠٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (there are among the hypocrites) those who have built a mosque to cause harm (to Islam) and to promote disbelief and in order to cause discord among the believers, and to provide a hiding place for him who had already made war against Allah and His Messenger. And they will certainly swear (saying), `We meant nothing but good (in building the mosque).' But Allah bears witness that they are certainly liars

wa-alladhīna ittakhadhū masjidan ḍirāran wakuf'ran watafrīqan bayna l-mu'minīna wa-ir'ṣādan liman ḥāraba l-laha warasūlahu min qablu walayaḥlifunna in aradnā illā l-ḥus'nā wal-lahu yashhadu innahum lakādhibūn

9:108

لَا تَقُمۡ فِیهِ أَبَدࣰاۚ لَّمَسۡجِدٌ أُسِّسَ عَلَى ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ مِنۡ أَوَّلِ یَوۡمٍ أَحَقُّ أَن تَقُومَ فِیهِۚ فِیهِ رِجَالࣱ یُحِبُّونَ أَن یَتَطَهَّرُوا۟ۚ وَٱللَّهُ یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُطَّهِّرِینَ ۝١٠٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

(Prophet!) never shall you stand in that (mosque for prayer). Certainly, the mosque which was founded upon piety (and observance of duty) from the (very) first day is more worthy that you stand (for Prayer) therein. In this (mosque) there are men (performers of Prayers) who love to become purified; and Allah loves those who purify themselves externally and internally

lā taqum fīhi abadan lamasjidun ussisa ʿalā l-taqwā min awwali yawmin aḥaqqu an taqūma fīhi fīhi rijālun yuḥibbūna an yataṭahharū wal-lahu yuḥibbu l-muṭahirīn

9:109

أَفَمَنۡ أَسَّسَ بُنۡیَـٰنَهُۥ عَلَىٰ تَقۡوَىٰ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضۡوَ ٰنٍ خَیۡرٌ أَم مَّنۡ أَسَّسَ بُنۡیَـٰنَهُۥ عَلَىٰ شَفَا جُرُفٍ هَارࣲ فَٱنۡهَارَ بِهِۦ فِی نَارِ جَهَنَّمَۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا یَهۡدِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٠٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

Is he, who founded his edifice on taking Allah as a shield and (on) His good pleasure, better or he who founded his edifice on the brink of a hollowed and crumbling water-worn bank so that it toppled along with him into the Fire of Gehenna? And Allah guides not the wrong doing people (to the ways of success)

afaman assasa bun'yānahu ʿalā taqwā mina l-lahi wariḍ'wānin khayrun am man assasa bun'yānahu ʿalā shafā jurufin hārin fa-in'hāra bihi fī nāri jahannama wal-lahu lā yahdī l-qawma l-ẓālimīn

9:110

لَا یَزَالُ بُنۡیَـٰنُهُمُ ٱلَّذِی بَنَوۡا۟ رِیبَةࣰ فِی قُلُوبِهِمۡ إِلَّاۤ أَن تَقَطَّعَ قُلُوبُهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمٌ ۝١١٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

This building of theirs which they have built will never cease to rankle in their hearts unless their hearts are torn to pieces (with anguish and repentance). And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise

lā yazālu bun'yānuhumu alladhī banaw rībatan fī qulūbihim illā an taqaṭṭaʿa qulūbuhum wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

9:111

۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱشۡتَرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَأَمۡوَ ٰلَهُم بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلۡجَنَّةَۚ یُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ فَیَقۡتُلُونَ وَیُقۡتَلُونَۖ وَعۡدًا عَلَیۡهِ حَقࣰّا فِی ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِ وَٱلۡإِنجِیلِ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِۚ وَمَنۡ أَوۡفَىٰ بِعَهۡدِهِۦ مِنَ ٱللَّهِۚ فَٱسۡتَبۡشِرُوا۟ بِبَیۡعِكُمُ ٱلَّذِی بَایَعۡتُم بِهِۦۚ وَذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝١١١

Amatul Rahman Omar

Allah has indeed purchased from the believers their persons and their possessions. Theirs, in return, is the (Heavenly) Garden; they fight in the cause of Allah, so they slay and are slain, an unfailing promise (that He has made) binding upon Himself (as mentioned) in the Torah and the Evangel and the Qur'an. And who is more faithful and true to his covenant than Allah? (Believers!) rejoice over the bargain you have made with Him and this indeed is a great achievement

inna l-laha ish'tarā mina l-mu'minīna anfusahum wa-amwālahum bi-anna lahumu l-janata yuqātilūna fī sabīli l-lahi fayaqtulūna wayuq'talūna waʿdan ʿalayhi ḥaqqan fī l-tawrāti wal-injīli wal-qur'āni waman awfā biʿahdihi mina l-lahi fa-is'tabshirū bibayʿikumu alladhī bāyaʿtum bihi wadhālika huwa l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm

9:112

ٱلتَّـٰۤىِٕبُونَ ٱلۡعَـٰبِدُونَ ٱلۡحَـٰمِدُونَ ٱلسَّـٰۤىِٕحُونَ ٱلرَّ ٰكِعُونَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدُونَ ٱلۡءَامِرُونَ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَٱلنَّاهُونَ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَٱلۡحَـٰفِظُونَ لِحُدُودِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١١٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

(These believers are) those who turn to Allah (in repentance), who worship Him, who praise Him, who fast, who bow down (before Him), who prostrate themselves (in Prayer), who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and who keep the limits set by Allah. Proclaim to such believers good tidings (of untold gifts in the Heavenly Garden)

al-tāibūna l-ʿābidūna l-ḥāmidūna l-sāiḥūna l-rākiʿūna l-sājidūna l-āmirūna bil-maʿrūfi wal-nāhūna ʿani l-munkari wal-ḥāfiẓūna liḥudūdi l-lahi wabashiri l-mu'minīn

9:113

مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِیِّ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَن یَسۡتَغۡفِرُوا۟ لِلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ وَلَوۡ كَانُوۤا۟ أُو۟لِی قُرۡبَىٰ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُمۡ أَنَّهُمۡ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝١١٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe that they should pray for protection for the polytheists (who have died without repentance) even if they be their near kinsmen, after it has become clear to them that they are the fellows of the flaming Fire

mā kāna lilnnabiyyi wa-alladhīna āmanū an yastaghfirū lil'mush'rikīna walaw kānū ulī qur'bā min baʿdi mā tabayyana lahum annahum aṣḥābu l-jaḥīm

9:114

وَمَا كَانَ ٱسۡتِغۡفَارُ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ لِأَبِیهِ إِلَّا عَن مَّوۡعِدَةࣲ وَعَدَهَاۤ إِیَّاهُ فَلَمَّا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُۥۤ أَنَّهُۥ عَدُوࣱّ لِّلَّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنۡهُۚ إِنَّ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ لَأَوَّ ٰهٌ حَلِیمࣱ ۝١١٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

And Abraham's praying for protection for his (idolatrous) sire was only because of a promise he had made to him, but when it became clear to him that he (- his sire) was an enemy to Allah, he (- Abraham) dissociated himself from him. Abraham was, as a matter of fact, soft of heart (and) forbearing

wamā kāna is'tigh'fāru ib'rāhīma li-abīhi illā ʿan mawʿidatin waʿadahā iyyāhu falammā tabayyana lahu annahu ʿaduwwun lillahi tabarra-a min'hu inna ib'rāhīma la-awwāhun ḥalīmu

9:115

وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِیُضِلَّ قَوۡمَۢا بَعۡدَ إِذۡ هَدَىٰهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ یُبَیِّنَ لَهُم مَّا یَتَّقُونَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمٌ ۝١١٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

It is not for Allah to condemn a people as lost after He has guided them, unless He has made clear to them the things they ought to guard against. Surely, Allah has full knowledge of everything

wamā kāna l-lahu liyuḍilla qawman baʿda idh hadāhum ḥattā yubayyina lahum mā yattaqūna inna l-laha bikulli shayin ʿalīmu

9:116

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُۚ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِیࣲّ وَلَا نَصِیرࣲ ۝١١٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

Verily, it is Allah to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He gives life and causes death. And you have, apart from Allah, no friend nor helper

inna l-laha lahu mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi yuḥ'yī wayumītu wamā lakum min dūni l-lahi min waliyyin walā naṣīri

9:117

لَّقَد تَّابَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِیِّ وَٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِینَ وَٱلۡأَنصَارِ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ فِی سَاعَةِ ٱلۡعُسۡرَةِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا كَادَ یَزِیغُ قُلُوبُ فَرِیقࣲ مِّنۡهُمۡ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِهِمۡ رَءُوفࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١١٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

Certainly, Allah has turned with mercy to the Prophet and to the Emigrants and the Helpers who stood by him in the hour of distress (- in the expedition to Tabuk) after the hearts of some of the people were about to swerve (from the duty). Again He turned to them with mercy. In fact, He is towards them Most-Loving, Ever Merciful

laqad tāba l-lahu ʿalā l-nabiyi wal-muhājirīna wal-anṣāri alladhīna ittabaʿūhu fī sāʿati l-ʿus'rati min baʿdi mā kāda yazīghu qulūbu farīqin min'hum thumma tāba ʿalayhim innahu bihim raūfun raḥīmu

9:118

وَعَلَى ٱلثَّلَـٰثَةِ ٱلَّذِینَ خُلِّفُوا۟ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا ضَاقَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتۡ وَضَاقَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَظَنُّوۤا۟ أَن لَّا مَلۡجَأَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّاۤ إِلَیۡهِ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ لِیَتُوبُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝١١٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (He also turned with mercy) to the three (Companions of the Prophet, Ka`b son of Malik, Hilal son of 'Umayyah and Murarah son of Rabi`ah);whose case was deferred (for decree of Allah), until the earth, for (all) its spaciousness became narrow for them, and their lives (also) became unbearable for them, and they were convinced that there was no refuge (to escape the punishment) from Allah save in Him. Then He turned to them with mercy that they might also turn (with repentance to Him). Surely, it is Allah Who is the Oft-Returning with compassion, the Ever Merciful

waʿalā l-thalāthati alladhīna khullifū ḥattā idhā ḍāqat ʿalayhimu l-arḍu bimā raḥubat waḍāqat ʿalayhim anfusuhum waẓannū an lā malja-a mina l-lahi illā ilayhi thumma tāba ʿalayhim liyatūbū inna l-laha huwa l-tawābu l-raḥīm

9:119

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝١١٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

O you who believe! keep your duty to Allah and be with the truthful

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū ittaqū l-laha wakūnū maʿa l-ṣādiqīn

9:120

مَا كَانَ لِأَهۡلِ ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ أَن یَتَخَلَّفُوا۟ عَن رَّسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا یَرۡغَبُوا۟ بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ عَن نَّفۡسِهِۦۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ لَا یُصِیبُهُمۡ ظَمَأࣱ وَلَا نَصَبࣱ وَلَا مَخۡمَصَةࣱ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا یَطَءُونَ مَوۡطِئࣰا یَغِیظُ ٱلۡكُفَّارَ وَلَا یَنَالُونَ مِنۡ عَدُوࣲّ نَّیۡلًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُم بِهِۦ عَمَلࣱ صَـٰلِحٌۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُضِیعُ أَجۡرَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٢٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

It was not proper for the people of Madinah and (for) the Arabs of the desert (who live) around them to have stayed behind the Messenger of Allah (at the time of expedition to Tabuk) nor (was it proper for them) to have preferred their own lives to his. That is because they suffer no thirst, nor fatigue, nor hunger in Allah's way nor do they make a journey which enrages the disbelievers, nor do they gain an advantage over an enemy, but a righteous deed is credited to their account (in the record of their deeds) because of it. Verily, Allah suffers not the reward of the doers of good to be lost

mā kāna li-ahli l-madīnati waman ḥawlahum mina l-aʿrābi an yatakhallafū ʿan rasūli l-lahi walā yarghabū bi-anfusihim ʿan nafsihi dhālika bi-annahum lā yuṣībuhum ẓama-on walā naṣabun walā makhmaṣatun fī sabīli l-lahi walā yaṭaūna mawṭi-an yaghīẓu l-kufāra walā yanālūna min ʿaduwwin naylan illā kutiba lahum bihi ʿamalun ṣāliḥun inna l-laha lā yuḍīʿu ajra l-muḥ'sinīn

9:121

وَلَا یُنفِقُونَ نَفَقَةࣰ صَغِیرَةࣰ وَلَا كَبِیرَةࣰ وَلَا یَقۡطَعُونَ وَادِیًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُمۡ لِیَجۡزِیَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَحۡسَنَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٢١

Amatul Rahman Omar

Nor do they spend any sum, little or much, nor do they traverse a valley (during their Jihad expedition) but it is recorded to their account, that Allah may award them the highest (reward) for their deeds

walā yunfiqūna nafaqatan ṣaghīratan walā kabīratan walā yaqṭaʿūna wādiyan illā kutiba lahum liyajziyahumu l-lahu aḥsana mā kānū yaʿmalūn

9:122

۞ وَمَا كَانَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ لِیَنفِرُوا۟ كَاۤفَّةࣰۚ فَلَوۡلَا نَفَرَ مِن كُلِّ فِرۡقَةࣲ مِّنۡهُمۡ طَاۤىِٕفَةࣱ لِّیَتَفَقَّهُوا۟ فِی ٱلدِّینِ وَلِیُنذِرُوا۟ قَوۡمَهُمۡ إِذَا رَجَعُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَحۡذَرُونَ ۝١٢٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

It is not possible for the believers to go forth (from their homes learning for religious learning) all together. Then, why should not a party from every section of them go forth, that they may (learn and) become well-versed in religion, and may warn their people when they return (home) to them, so that they too may guard against (unislamic ways of life)

wamā kāna l-mu'minūna liyanfirū kāffatan falawlā nafara min kulli fir'qatin min'hum ṭāifatun liyatafaqqahū fī l-dīni waliyundhirū qawmahum idhā rajaʿū ilayhim laʿallahum yaḥdharūn

9:123

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قَـٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ یَلُونَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡكُفَّارِ وَلۡیَجِدُوا۟ فِیكُمۡ غِلۡظَةࣰۚ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝١٢٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

O you who believe! fight such of the disbelievers as dwell near to you and let them find firmness in you and know that Allah is with those who become secure against evil

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū qātilū alladhīna yalūnakum mina l-kufāri walyajidū fīkum ghil'ẓatan wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha maʿa l-mutaqīn

9:124

وَإِذَا مَاۤ أُنزِلَتۡ سُورَةࣱ فَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَقُولُ أَیُّكُمۡ زَادَتۡهُ هَـٰذِهِۦۤ إِیمَـٰنࣰاۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فَزَادَتۡهُمۡ إِیمَـٰنࣰا وَهُمۡ یَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ ۝١٢٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

And whenever a Surah is revealed there are some of these (hypocrites) who say (scornfully), `Which one of you has this (chapter) increased in faith?' As for the believers it (- the revelation of the chapter) does certainly increase their faith and they do rejoice (therefore)

wa-idhā mā unzilat sūratun famin'hum man yaqūlu ayyukum zādathu hādhihi īmānan fa-ammā alladhīna āmanū fazādathum īmānan wahum yastabshirūn

9:125

وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضࣱ فَزَادَتۡهُمۡ رِجۡسًا إِلَىٰ رِجۡسِهِمۡ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمۡ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝١٢٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

But (as regards) those in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy), it (- every new revelation of a chapter) certainly adds more uncleanness to their previous uncleanness and they die while they are still disbelievers

wa-ammā alladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun fazādathum rij'san ilā rij'sihim wamātū wahum kāfirūn

9:126

أَوَ لَا یَرَوۡنَ أَنَّهُمۡ یُفۡتَنُونَ فِی كُلِّ عَامࣲ مَّرَّةً أَوۡ مَرَّتَیۡنِ ثُمَّ لَا یَتُوبُونَ وَلَا هُمۡ یَذَّكَّرُونَ ۝١٢٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

Do they not see that they are tried every year once or twice. Still they do not repent nor would they take heed

awalā yarawna annahum yuf'tanūna fī kulli ʿāmin marratan aw marratayni thumma lā yatūbūna walā hum yadhakkarūn

9:127

وَإِذَا مَاۤ أُنزِلَتۡ سُورَةࣱ نَّظَرَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ هَلۡ یَرَىٰكُم مِّنۡ أَحَدࣲ ثُمَّ ٱنصَرَفُوا۟ۚ صَرَفَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُم بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ لَّا یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝١٢٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

And whenever a Surah is revealed, these (hypocrites) look one at another (as if to ask), `Is anyone watching you?' Then they turn away. Allah has turned away their hearts (from the Light) because they are a people devoid of understanding

wa-idhā mā unzilat sūratun naẓara baʿḍuhum ilā baʿḍin hal yarākum min aḥadin thumma inṣarafū ṣarafa l-lahu qulūbahum bi-annahum qawmun lā yafqahūn

9:128

لَقَدۡ جَاۤءَكُمۡ رَسُولࣱ مِّنۡ أَنفُسِكُمۡ عَزِیزٌ عَلَیۡهِ مَا عَنِتُّمۡ حَرِیصٌ عَلَیۡكُم بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ رَءُوفࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٢٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

(People!) certainly, there has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves; your sufferings tell hard upon him; he is ardently desirous of your (welfare) and (he is) very loving and merciful to the believers

laqad jāakum rasūlun min anfusikum ʿazīzun ʿalayhi mā ʿanittum ḥarīṣun ʿalaykum bil-mu'minīna raūfun raḥīmu

9:129

فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡا۟ فَقُلۡ حَسۡبِیَ ٱللَّهُ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ عَلَیۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُۖ وَهُوَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝١٢٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

But if they turn their backs (upon you) say, `Allah is sufficient for me. There is no other, cannot be and will never be One worthy of worship but He, in Him do I put my trust, and He is the Lord of the Mighty throne.

fa-in tawallaw faqul ḥasbiya l-lahu lā ilāha illā huwa ʿalayhi tawakkaltu wahuwa rabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm
