Indeed, Abraham was forbearing, grieving and [frequently] returning [to Allah ]

for Abraham was forbearing, tender-hearted, and devout

Lo! Abraham was mild, imploring, penitent
Hud 11:87
Noun
قَالُوا۟ یَـٰشُعَیۡبُ أَصَلَوٰتُكَ تَأۡمُرُكَ أَن نَّتۡرُكَ مَا یَعۡبُدُ ءَابَاۤؤُنَاۤ أَوۡ أَن نَّفۡعَلَ فِیۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلِنَا مَا نَشَـٰۤؤُا۟ۖ إِنَّكَ لَأَنتَ ٱلۡحَلِیمُ ٱلرَّشِیدُ ٨٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
They said, "O Shu'ayb, does your prayer command you that we should leave what our fathers worship or not do with our wealth what we please? Indeed, you are the forbearing, the discerning!"
Abdel Haleem:
They said, ‘Shuayb, does your prayer tell you that we should abandon what our forefathers worshipped and refrain from doing whatever we please with our own property? Indeed you are a tolerant and sensible man.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
They said: O Shu'eyb! Doth thy way of prayer command thee that we should forsake that which our fathers (used to) worship, or that we (should leave off) doing what we will with our own property. Lo! thou art the mild, the guide to right behaviour
Joseph 12:44
Noun
قَالُوۤا۟ أَضۡغَـٰثُ أَحۡلَـٰمࣲۖ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِتَأۡوِیلِ ٱلۡأَحۡلَـٰمِ بِعَـٰلِمِینَ ٤٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
They said, "[It is but] a mixture of false dreams, and we are not learned in the interpretation of dreams."
Abdel Haleem:
They said, ‘These are confusing dreams and we are not skilled at dream-interpretation,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
They answered: Jumbled dreams! And we are not knowing in the interpretation of dreams
تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتُ ٱلسَّبۡعُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِیهِنَّۚ وَإِن مِّن شَیۡءٍ إِلَّا یُسَبِّحُ بِحَمۡدِهِۦ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَفۡقَهُونَ تَسۡبِیحَهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حَلِیمًا غَفُورࣰا ٤٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [ Allah ] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgiving
Abdel Haleem:
The seven heavens and the earth and everyone in them glorify Him. There is not a single thing that does not celebrate His praise, though you do not understand their praise: He is most forbearing, most forgiving
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein praise Him, and there is not a thing but hymneth His praise; but ye understand not their praise. Lo! He is ever Clement, Forgiving
The Prophets 21:5
Noun
بَلۡ قَالُوۤا۟ أَضۡغَـٰثُ أَحۡلَـٰمِۭ بَلِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ بَلۡ هُوَ شَاعِرࣱ فَلۡیَأۡتِنَا بِءَایَةࣲ كَمَاۤ أُرۡسِلَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]."
Abdel Haleem:
Some say, ‘Muddled dreams’; others, ‘He made it up’; yet others, ‘He is just a poet, let him show us a sign as previous messengers did.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Nay, say they, (these are but) muddled dreams; nay, he hath but invented it; nay, he is but a poet. Let him bring us a portent even as those of old (who were Allah's messengers) were sent (with portents)
The Pilgrimage 22:59
Noun
لَیُدۡخِلَنَّهُم مُّدۡخَلࣰا یَرۡضَوۡنَهُۥۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلِیمٌ حَلِیمࣱ ٥٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
He will surely cause them to enter an entrance with which they will be pleased, and indeed, Allah is Knowing and Forbearing
Abdel Haleem:
He will admit them to a place that will please them: God is all knowing and most forbearing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Assuredly He will cause them to enter by an entry that they will love. Lo! Allah verily is Knower, Indulgent
The Light 24:58

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لِیَسۡتَءۡذِنكُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ مَلَكَتۡ أَیۡمَـٰنُكُمۡ وَٱلَّذِینَ لَمۡ یَبۡلُغُوا۟ ٱلۡحُلُمَ مِنكُمۡ ثَلَـٰثَ مَرَّ ٰتࣲۚ مِّن قَبۡلِ صَلَوٰةِ ٱلۡفَجۡرِ وَحِینَ تَضَعُونَ ثِیَابَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظَّهِیرَةِ وَمِنۢ بَعۡدِ صَلَوٰةِ ٱلۡعِشَاۤءِۚ ثَلَـٰثُ عَوۡرَ ٰتࣲ لَّكُمۡۚ لَیۡسَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَلَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ جُنَاحُۢ بَعۡدَهُنَّۚ طَوَّ ٰفُونَ عَلَیۡكُم بَعۡضُكُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یُبَیِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمࣱ ٥٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
O you who have believed, let those whom your right hands possess and those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you ask permission of you [before entering] at three times: before the dawn prayer and when you put aside your clothing [for rest] at noon and after the night prayer. [These are] three times of privacy for you. There is no blame upon you nor upon them beyond these [periods], for they continually circulate among you - some of you, among others. Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses; and Allah is Knowing and Wise
Abdel Haleem:
Believers, your slaves and any who have not yet reached puberty should ask your permission to come in at three times of day: before the dawn prayer; when you lay your garments aside in the midday heat; and after the evening prayer. These are your three times for privacy; at other times, there is no blame on you or them if you move around each other freely. In this way God makes messages clear: God is all knowing, all wise
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
O ye who believe! Let your slaves, and those of you who have not come to puberty, ask leave of you at three times (before they come into your presence): Before the prayer of dawn, and when ye lay aside your raiment for the heat of noon, and after the prayer of night. Three times of privacy for you. It is no sin for them or for you at other times, when some of you go round attendant upon others (if they come into your presence without leave). Thus Allah maketh clear the revelations for you. Allah is Knower, Wise
The Light 24:59
Noun
وَإِذَا بَلَغَ ٱلۡأَطۡفَـٰلُ مِنكُمُ ٱلۡحُلُمَ فَلۡیَسۡتَءۡذِنُوا۟ كَمَا ٱسۡتَءۡذَنَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یُبَیِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمࣱ ٥٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And when the children among you reach puberty, let them ask permission [at all times] as those before them have done. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses; and Allah is Knowing and Wise
Abdel Haleem:
When your children reach puberty, they should [always] ask your permission to enter, like their elders do. This is how God makes His messages clear to you: God is all knowing, all wise
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And when the children among you come to puberty then let them ask leave even as those before them used to ask it. Thus Allah maketh clear His revelations for you. Allah is Knower, Wise
The Cow 2:225
Noun
لَّا یُؤَاخِذُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِٱللَّغۡوِ فِیۤ أَیۡمَـٰنِكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن یُؤَاخِذُكُم بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ قُلُوبُكُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ حَلِیمࣱ ٢٢٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Allah does not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He imposes blame upon you for what your hearts have earned. And Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing
Abdel Haleem:
He will not call you to account for oaths you have uttered unintentionally, but He will call you to account for what you mean in your hearts. God is most forgiving and forbearing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Allah will not take you to task for that which is unintentional in your oaths. But He will take you to task for that which your hearts have garnered. Allah is Forgiving, Clement
The Cow 2:235
Noun
وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فِیمَا عَرَّضۡتُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ خِطۡبَةِ ٱلنِّسَاۤءِ أَوۡ أَكۡنَنتُمۡ فِیۤ أَنفُسِكُمۡۚ عَلِمَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّكُمۡ سَتَذۡكُرُونَهُنَّ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُوَاعِدُوهُنَّ سِرًّا إِلَّاۤ أَن تَقُولُوا۟ قَوۡلࣰا مَّعۡرُوفࣰاۚ وَلَا تَعۡزِمُوا۟ عُقۡدَةَ ٱلنِّكَاحِ حَتَّىٰ یَبۡلُغَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبُ أَجَلَهُۥۚ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَعۡلَمُ مَا فِیۤ أَنفُسِكُمۡ فَٱحۡذَرُوهُۚ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ حَلِیمࣱ ٢٣٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
There is no blame upon you for that to which you [indirectly] allude concerning a proposal to women or for what you conceal within yourselves. Allah knows that you will have them in mind. But do not promise them secretly except for saying a proper saying. And do not determine to undertake a marriage contract until the decreed period reaches its end. And know that Allah knows what is within yourselves, so beware of Him. And know that Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing
Abdel Haleem:
You will not be blamed whether you give a hint that you wish to marry these women, or keep it to yourselves- God knows that you intend to propose to them. Do not make a secret arrangement with them; speak to them honourably and do not confirm the marriage tie until the prescribed period reaches its end. Remember that God knows what is in your souls, so be mindful of Him. Remember that God is most forgiving and forbearing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
There is no sin for you in that which ye proclaim or hide in your minds concerning your troth with women. Allah knoweth that ye will remember them. But plight not your troth with women except by uttering a recognised form of words. And do not consummate the marriage until (the term) prescribed is run. Know that Allah knoweth what is in your minds, so beware of Him; and know that Allah is Forgiving, Clement
The Cow 2:263
Noun
۞ قَوۡلࣱ مَّعۡرُوفࣱ وَمَغۡفِرَةٌ خَیۡرࣱ مِّن صَدَقَةࣲ یَتۡبَعُهَاۤ أَذࣰىۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَنِیٌّ حَلِیمࣱ ٢٦٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Free of need and Forbearing
Abdel Haleem:
A kind word and forgiveness is better than a charitable deed followed by hurtful [words]: God is self-sufficient, forbearing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
A kind word with forgiveness is better than almsgiving followed by injury. Allah is Absolute, Clement
۞ تُرۡجِی مَن تَشَاۤءُ مِنۡهُنَّ وَتُءۡوِیۤ إِلَیۡكَ مَن تَشَاۤءُۖ وَمَنِ ٱبۡتَغَیۡتَ مِمَّنۡ عَزَلۡتَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَیۡكَۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ أَدۡنَىٰۤ أَن تَقَرَّ أَعۡیُنُهُنَّ وَلَا یَحۡزَنَّ وَیَرۡضَیۡنَ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَیۡتَهُنَّ كُلُّهُنَّۚ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ مَا فِی قُلُوبِكُمۡۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِیمًا حَلِیمࣰا ٥١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
You, [O Muhammad], may put aside whom you will of them or take to yourself whom you will. And any that you desire of those [wives] from whom you had [temporarily] separated - there is no blame upon you [in returning her]. That is more suitable that they should be content and not grieve and that they should be satisfied with what you have given them - all of them. And Allah knows what is in your hearts. And ever is Allah Knowing and Forbearing
Abdel Haleem:
You may make any of [your women] wait and receive any of them as you wish, but you will not be at fault if you invite one whose turn you have previously set aside: this way it is more likely that they will be satisfied and will not be distressed and will all be content with what you have given them. God knows what is in your hearts: God is all knowing, forbearing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Thou canst defer whom thou wilt of them and receive unto thee whom thou wilt, and whomsoever thou desirest of those whom thou hast set aside (temporarily), it is no sin for thee (to receive her again); that is better; that they may be comforted and not grieve, and may all be pleased with what thou givest them. Allah knoweth what is in your hearts (O men), and Allah is ever Forgiving, Clement
۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُمۡسِكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ أَن تَزُولَاۚ وَلَىِٕن زَالَتَاۤ إِنۡ أَمۡسَكَهُمَا مِنۡ أَحَدࣲ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حَلِیمًا غَفُورࣰا ٤١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Indeed, Allah holds the heavens and the earth, lest they cease. And if they should cease, no one could hold them [in place] after Him. Indeed, He is Forbearing and Forgiving
Abdel Haleem:
God keeps the heavens and earth from vanishing; if they did vanish, no one else could stop them. God is most forbearing, most forgiving
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Lo! Allah graspeth the heavens and the earth that they deviate not, and if they were to deviate there is not one that could grasp them after Him. Lo! He is ever Clement, Forgiving
فَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِیمࣲ ١٠١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy
Abdel Haleem:
so We gave him the good news that he would have a patient son
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
So We gave him tidings of a gentle son
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ تَوَلَّوۡا۟ مِنكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡجَمۡعَانِ إِنَّمَا ٱسۡتَزَلَّهُمُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ بِبَعۡضِ مَا كَسَبُوا۟ۖ وَلَقَدۡ عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ حَلِیمࣱ ١٥٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Indeed, those of you who turned back on the day the two armies met, it was Satan who caused them to slip because of some [blame] they had earned. But Allah has already forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing
Abdel Haleem:
As for those of you who turned away on the day the two armies met in battle, it was Satan who caused them to slip, through some of their actions. God has now pardoned them: God is most forgiving and forbearing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Lo! those of you who turned back on the day when the two hosts met, Satan alone it was who caused them to backslide, because of some of that which they have earned. Now Allah hath forgiven them. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Clement
Women 4:12
Noun
۞ وَلَكُمۡ نِصۡفُ مَا تَرَكَ أَزۡوَ ٰجُكُمۡ إِن لَّمۡ یَكُن لَّهُنَّ وَلَدࣱۚ فَإِن كَانَ لَهُنَّ وَلَدࣱ فَلَكُمُ ٱلرُّبُعُ مِمَّا تَرَكۡنَۚ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ وَصِیَّةࣲ یُوصِینَ بِهَاۤ أَوۡ دَیۡنࣲۚ وَلَهُنَّ ٱلرُّبُعُ مِمَّا تَرَكۡتُمۡ إِن لَّمۡ یَكُن لَّكُمۡ وَلَدࣱۚ فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمۡ وَلَدࣱ فَلَهُنَّ ٱلثُّمُنُ مِمَّا تَرَكۡتُمۚ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ وَصِیَّةࣲ تُوصُونَ بِهَاۤ أَوۡ دَیۡنࣲۗ وَإِن كَانَ رَجُلࣱ یُورَثُ كَلَـٰلَةً أَوِ ٱمۡرَأَةࣱ وَلَهُۥۤ أَخٌ أَوۡ أُخۡتࣱ فَلِكُلِّ وَ ٰحِدࣲ مِّنۡهُمَا ٱلسُّدُسُۚ فَإِن كَانُوۤا۟ أَكۡثَرَ مِن ذَ ٰلِكَ فَهُمۡ شُرَكَاۤءُ فِی ٱلثُّلُثِۚ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ وَصِیَّةࣲ یُوصَىٰ بِهَاۤ أَوۡ دَیۡنٍ غَیۡرَ مُضَاۤرࣲّۚ وَصِیَّةࣰ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَلِیمࣱ ١٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And for you is half of what your wives leave if they have no child. But if they have a child, for you is one fourth of what they leave, after any bequest they [may have] made or debt. And for the wives is one fourth if you leave no child. But if you leave a child, then for them is an eighth of what you leave, after any bequest you [may have] made or debt. And if a man or woman leaves neither ascendants nor descendants but has a brother or a sister, then for each one of them is a sixth. But if they are more than two, they share a third, after any bequest which was made or debt, as long as there is no detriment [caused]. [This is] an ordinance from Allah , and Allah is Knowing and Forbearing
Abdel Haleem:
You inherit half of what your wives leave, if they have no children; if they have children, you inherit a quarter. [In all cases, the distribution comes] after payment of any bequests or debts. If you have no children, your wives’ share is a quarter; if you have children, your wives get an eighth. [In all cases, the distribution comes] after payment of any bequests or debts. If a man or a woman dies leaving no children or parents, but a single brother or sister, he or she should take one-sixth of the inheritance; if there are more siblings, they share one-third between them. [In all cases, the distribution comes] after payment of any bequests or debts, with no harm done to anyone: this is a commandment from God: God is all knowing and benign to all
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And unto you belongeth a half of that which your wives leave, if they have no child; but if they have a child then unto you the fourth of that which they leave, after any legacy they may have bequeathed, or debt (they may have contracted, hath been paid). And unto them belongeth the fourth of that which ye leave if ye have no child, but if ye have a child then the eighth of that which ye leave, after any legacy ye may have bequeathed, or debt (ye may have contracted, hath been paid). And if a man or a woman have a distant heir (having left neither parent nor child), and he (or she) have a brother or a sister (only on the mother's side) then to each of them twain (the brother and the sister) the sixth, and if they be more than two, then they shall be sharers in the third, after any legacy that may have been bequeathed or debt (contracted) not injuring (the heirs by willing away more than a third of the heritage) hath been paid. A commandment from Allah. Allah is Knower, Indulgent
أَمۡ تَأۡمُرُهُمۡ أَحۡلَـٰمُهُم بِهَـٰذَاۤۚ أَمۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ طَاغُونَ ٣٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Or do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people
Abdel Haleem:
does their reason really tell them to do this, or are they simply insolent people
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَسۡءَلُوا۟ عَنۡ أَشۡیَاۤءَ إِن تُبۡدَ لَكُمۡ تَسُؤۡكُمۡ وَإِن تَسۡءَلُوا۟ عَنۡهَا حِینَ یُنَزَّلُ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ تُبۡدَ لَكُمۡ عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهَاۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ حَلِیمࣱ ١٠١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you. But if you ask about them while the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be shown to you. Allah has pardoned that which is past; and Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing
Abdel Haleem:
You who believe, do not ask about matters which, if made known to you, might make things difficult for you- if you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they will be made known to you- for God has kept silent about them: God is most forgiving and forbearing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
O ye who believe! Ask not of things which, if they were made unto you, would trouble you; but if ye ask of them when the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be made known unto you. Allah pardoneth this, for Allah is Forgiving, Clement
إِن تُقۡرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنࣰا یُضَـٰعِفۡهُ لَكُمۡ وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ شَكُورٌ حَلِیمٌ ١٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
If you loan Allah a goodly loan, He will multiply it for you and forgive you. And Allah is Most Appreciative and Forbearing
Abdel Haleem:
if you make a generous loan to God He will multiply it for you and forgive you. God is ever thankful and forbearing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
If ye lend unto Allah a goodly loan, He will double it for you and will forgive you, for Allah is Responsive, Clement
Repentance 9:114
Noun
وَمَا كَانَ ٱسۡتِغۡفَارُ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ لِأَبِیهِ إِلَّا عَن مَّوۡعِدَةࣲ وَعَدَهَاۤ إِیَّاهُ فَلَمَّا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُۥۤ أَنَّهُۥ عَدُوࣱّ لِّلَّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنۡهُۚ إِنَّ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ لَأَوَّ ٰهٌ حَلِیمࣱ ١١٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And the request of forgiveness of Abraham for his father was only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became apparent to Abraham that his father was an enemy to Allah , he disassociated himself from him. Indeed was Abraham compassionate and patient
Abdel Haleem:
Abraham asked forgiveness for his father because he had made a promise to him, but once he realized that his father was an enemy of God, he washed his hands of him. Abraham was tender-hearted and forbearing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
