قُلۡ كُلࣱّ مُّتَرَبِّصࣱ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ۖ فَسَتَعۡلَمُونَ مَنۡ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلصِّرَ ٰطِ ٱلسَّوِیِّ وَمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ ۝١٣٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "Each [of us] is waiting; so wait. For you will know who are the companions of the sound path and who is guided."
Abdel Haleem: [Prophet], say, ‘We are all waiting, so you carry on waiting: you will come to learn who has followed the even path, and been rightly guided.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say: Each is awaiting; so await ye! Ye will come to know who are the owners of the path of equity, and who is right
The Believers 23:25 Verb
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلُۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةࣱ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٢٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."
Abdel Haleem: He is just a madman, so let’s wait and see what happens to him.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He is only a man in whom is a madness, so watch him for a while
The Cow 2:228 Verb
وَٱلۡمُطَلَّقَـٰتُ یَتَرَبَّصۡنَ بِأَنفُسِهِنَّ ثَلَـٰثَةَ قُرُوۤءࣲۚ وَلَا یَحِلُّ لَهُنَّ أَن یَكۡتُمۡنَ مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ فِیۤ أَرۡحَامِهِنَّ إِن كُنَّ یُؤۡمِنَّ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِۚ وَبُعُولَتُهُنَّ أَحَقُّ بِرَدِّهِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ إِنۡ أَرَادُوۤا۟ إِصۡلَـٰحࣰاۚ وَلَهُنَّ مِثۡلُ ٱلَّذِی عَلَیۡهِنَّ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِۚ وَلِلرِّجَالِ عَلَیۡهِنَّ دَرَجَةࣱۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمٌ ۝٢٢٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Divorced women remain in waiting for three periods, and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs if they believe in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands have more right to take them back in this [period] if they want reconciliation. And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree over them [in responsibility and authority]. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise
Abdel Haleem: Divorced women must wait for three monthly periods before remarrying, and, if they really believe in God and the Last Day, it is not lawful for them to conceal what God has created in their wombs: their husbands would do better to take them back during this period, provided they wish to put things right. Wives have [rights] similar to their [obligations], according to what is recognized to be fair, and husbands have a degree [of right] over them: [both should remember that] God is almighty and wise
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Women who are divorced shall wait, keeping themselves apart, three (monthly) courses. And it is not lawful for them that they should conceal that which Allah hath created in their wombs if they are believers in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands would do better to take them back in that case if they desire a reconciliation. And they (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them in kindness, and men are a degree above them. Allah is Mighty, Wise
The Cow 2:234 Verb
وَٱلَّذِینَ یُتَوَفَّوۡنَ مِنكُمۡ وَیَذَرُونَ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا یَتَرَبَّصۡنَ بِأَنفُسِهِنَّ أَرۡبَعَةَ أَشۡهُرࣲ وَعَشۡرࣰاۖ فَإِذَا بَلَغۡنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فِیمَا فَعَلۡنَ فِیۤ أَنفُسِهِنَّ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِیرࣱ ۝٢٣٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind - they, [the wives, shall] wait four months and ten [days]. And when they have fulfilled their term, then there is no blame upon you for what they do with themselves in an acceptable manner. And Allah is [fully] Acquainted with what you do
Abdel Haleem: If any of you die and leave widows, the widows should wait for four months and ten nights before remarrying. When they have completed this set time, you will not be blamed for anything they may reasonably choose to do with themselves. God is fully aware of what you do
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Such of you as die and leave behind them wives, they (the wives) shall wait, keeping themselves apart, four months and ten days. And when they reach the term (prescribed for them) then there is no sin for you in aught that they may do with themselves in decency. Allah is informed of what ye do
Women 4:141 Verb
ٱلَّذِینَ یَتَرَبَّصُونَ بِكُمۡ فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمۡ فَتۡحࣱ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ قَالُوۤا۟ أَلَمۡ نَكُن مَّعَكُمۡ وَإِن كَانَ لِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ نَصِیبࣱ قَالُوۤا۟ أَلَمۡ نَسۡتَحۡوِذۡ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَنَمۡنَعۡكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَۚ فَٱللَّهُ یَحۡكُمُ بَیۡنَكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۗ وَلَن یَجۡعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ عَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ سَبِیلًا ۝١٤١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Those who wait [and watch] you. Then if you gain a victory from Allah , they say, "Were we not with you?" But if the disbelievers have a success, they say [to them], "Did we not gain the advantage over you, but we protected you from the believers?" Allah will judge between [all of] you on the Day of Resurrection, and never will Allah give the disbelievers over the believers a way [to overcome them]
Abdel Haleem: The [hypocrites] wait to see what happens to you and, if God brings you success, they say, ‘Were we not on your side?’ but if the disbelievers have some success, they say to them, ‘Did we not have the upper hand over you, and [yet] protect you from the believers?’ God will judge between you all on the Day of Resurrection, and He will give the disbelievers no means of overcoming the believers
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Those who wait upon occasion in regard to you and, if a victory cometh unto you from Allah, say: Are we not with you? and if the disbelievers meet with a success say: Had we not the mastery of you, and did we not protect you from the believers? - Allah will judge between you at the Day of Resurrection, and Allah will not give the disbelievers any way (of success) against the believers
The Mount, The Mountain 52:30 Verb
أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ شَاعِرࣱ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَیۡبَ ٱلۡمَنُونِ ۝٣٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?"
Abdel Haleem: If they say, ‘He is only a poet: we shall await his fate,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time
The Mount, The Mountain 52:31 Verb
قُلۡ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّی مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُتَرَبِّصِینَ ۝٣١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."
Abdel Haleem: say, ‘Wait if you wish; I too am waiting’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say (unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant
The Iron 57:14 Verb
یُنَادُونَهُمۡ أَلَمۡ نَكُن مَّعَكُمۡۖ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَلَـٰكِنَّكُمۡ فَتَنتُمۡ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَتَرَبَّصۡتُمۡ وَٱرۡتَبۡتُمۡ وَغَرَّتۡكُمُ ٱلۡأَمَانِیُّ حَتَّىٰ جَاۤءَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ وَغَرَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡغَرُورُ ۝١٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): The hypocrites will call to the believers, "Were we not with you?" They will say, "Yes, but you afflicted yourselves and awaited [misfortune for us] and doubted, and wishful thinking deluded you until there came the command of Allah . And the Deceiver deceived you concerning Allah
Abdel Haleem: The hypocrites will call out to the believers, ‘Were we not with you?’ They will reply, ‘Yes. But you allowed yourselves to be tempted, you were hesitant, doubtful, deceived by false hopes until God’s command came- the Deceiver tricked you about God
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: They will cry unto them (saying): Were we not with you? They will say: Yea, verily; but ye tempted one another, and hesitated, and doubted, and vain desires beguiled you till the ordinance of Allah came to pass; and the deceiver deceived you concerning Allah
Repentance 9:24 Verb
قُلۡ إِن كَانَ ءَابَاۤؤُكُمۡ وَأَبۡنَاۤؤُكُمۡ وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُكُمۡ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجُكُمۡ وَعَشِیرَتُكُمۡ وَأَمۡوَ ٰلٌ ٱقۡتَرَفۡتُمُوهَا وَتِجَـٰرَةࣱ تَخۡشَوۡنَ كَسَادَهَا وَمَسَـٰكِنُ تَرۡضَوۡنَهَاۤ أَحَبَّ إِلَیۡكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَجِهَادࣲ فِی سَبِیلِهِۦ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ یَأۡتِیَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا یَهۡدِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٢٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, [O Muhammad], "If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger and jihad in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people."
Abdel Haleem: Say [Prophet], ‘If your fathers, sons, brothers, wives, tribes, the wealth you have acquired, the trade which you fear will decline, and the dwellings you love are dearer to you than God and His Messenger and the struggle in His cause, then wait until God brings about His punishment.’ God does not guide those who break away
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say: If your fathers, and your sons, and your brethren, and your wives, and your tribe, and the wealth ye have acquired, and merchandise for which ye fear that there will no sale, and dwellings ye desire are dearer to you than Allah and His messenger and striving in His way: then wait till Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk
Repentance 9:52 Verb
قُلۡ هَلۡ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَاۤ إِلَّاۤ إِحۡدَى ٱلۡحُسۡنَیَیۡنِۖ وَنَحۡنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمۡ أَن یُصِیبَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابࣲ مِّنۡ عِندِهِۦۤ أَوۡ بِأَیۡدِینَاۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوۤا۟ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ ۝٥٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "Do you await for us except one of the two best things while we await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands? So wait; indeed we, along with you, are waiting."
Abdel Haleem: Say, ‘Do you expect something other than one of the two best things to happen to us? Well, we expect God to inflict punishment on you, either from Himself or at our hands. So wait; we too are waiting.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say: Can ye await for us aught save one of two good things (death or victory in Allah's way)? while we await for you that Allah will afflict you with a doom from Him or at our hands. Await then! Lo! We are awaiting with you
Repentance 9:98 Verb
وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ مَن یَتَّخِذُ مَا یُنفِقُ مَغۡرَمࣰا وَیَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمُ ٱلدَّوَاۤىِٕرَۚ عَلَیۡهِمۡ دَاۤىِٕرَةُ ٱلسَّوۡءِۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٩٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And among the bedouins are some who consider what they spend as a loss and await for you turns of misfortune. Upon them will be a misfortune of evil. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing
Abdel Haleem: Some of the desert Arabs consider what they give to be an imposition; they are waiting for fortune to turn against you, but fortune will turn against them. God is all hearing and all knowing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And of the wandering Arabs there is he who taketh that which he expendeth (for the cause of Allah) as a loss, and awaiteth (evil) turns of fortune for you (that he may be rid of it). The evil turn of fortune will be theirs. Allah is Hearer, Knower

لِّلَّذِینَ یُؤۡلُونَ مِن نِّسَاۤىِٕهِمۡ تَرَبُّصُ أَرۡبَعَةِ أَشۡهُرࣲۖ فَإِن فَاۤءُو فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٢٢٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): For those who swear not to have sexual relations with their wives is a waiting time of four months, but if they return [to normal relations] - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
Abdel Haleem: For those who swear that they will not approach their wives, there shall be a waiting period of four months:if they go back, remember God will be most forgiving and merciful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Those who forswear their wives must wait four months; then, if they change their mind, lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful
