Mary 19:69 Noun
ثُمَّ لَنَنزِعَنَّ مِن كُلِّ شِیعَةٍ أَیُّهُمۡ أَشَدُّ عَلَى ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ عِتِیࣰّا ۝٦٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then We will surely extract from every sect those of them who were worst against the Most Merciful in insolence
Abdel Haleem: We shall seize out of each group those who were most disobedient towards the Lord of Mercy
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then We shall pluck out from every sect whichever of them was most stubborn in rebellion to the Beneficent
Mary 19:8 Noun
قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ یَكُونُ لِی غُلَـٰمࣱ وَكَانَتِ ٱمۡرَأَتِی عَاقِرࣰا وَقَدۡ بَلَغۡتُ مِنَ ٱلۡكِبَرِ عِتِیࣰّا ۝٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?"
Abdel Haleem: He said, ‘Lord, how can I have a son when my wife is barren, and I am old and frail?’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age
The Criterion, The Standard 25:21 Noun
۞ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَرۡجُونَ لِقَاۤءَنَا لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ أَوۡ نَرَىٰ رَبَّنَاۗ لَقَدِ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ فِیۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَعَتَوۡ عُتُوࣰّا كَبِیرࣰا ۝٢١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, "Why were not angels sent down to us, or [why] do we [not] see our Lord?" They have certainly become arrogant within themselves and [become] insolent with great insolence
Abdel Haleem: Those who do not fear to meet Us say, ‘Why are the angels not sent down to us?’ or ‘Why can we not see our Lord?’ They are too proud of themselves and too insolent
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And those who look not for a meeting with Us say: Why are angels not sent down unto us and (Why) do we not see our Lord! Assuredly they think too highly of themselves and are scornful with great pride
The Sovereignty, Control, The Kingdom 67:21 Noun
أَمَّنۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِی یَرۡزُقُكُمۡ إِنۡ أَمۡسَكَ رِزۡقَهُۥۚ بَل لَّجُّوا۟ فِی عُتُوࣲّ وَنُفُورٍ ۝٢١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Or who is it that could provide for you if He withheld His provision? But they have persisted in insolence and aversion
Abdel Haleem: Who can provide for you if He withholds His provision? Yet they persist in their insolence and their avoidance of the Truth
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Or who is he that will provide for you if He should withhold His providence? Nay, but they are set in pride and frowardness
The Reality, The Inevitable 69:6 Noun
وَأَمَّا عَادࣱ فَأُهۡلِكُوا۟ بِرِیحࣲ صَرۡصَرٍ عَاتِیَةࣲ ۝٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent win
Abdel Haleem: Ad was destroyed by a furious win
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind

The Criterion, The Standard 25:21 Verb
۞ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَرۡجُونَ لِقَاۤءَنَا لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ أَوۡ نَرَىٰ رَبَّنَاۗ لَقَدِ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ فِیۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَعَتَوۡ عُتُوࣰّا كَبِیرࣰا ۝٢١

The Winnowing Winds, The Scatterers 51:44 Verb
فَعَتَوۡا۟ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُ وَهُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ ۝٤٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on
Abdel Haleem: but they rebelled against their Lord’s command, so the blast took them. They looked on helplessly
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: But they rebelled against their Lord's decree, and so the thunderbolt overtook them even while they gazed
Divorce 65:8 Verb
وَكَأَیِّن مِّن قَرۡیَةٍ عَتَتۡ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهَا وَرُسُلِهِۦ فَحَاسَبۡنَـٰهَا حِسَابࣰا شَدِیدࣰا وَعَذَّبۡنَـٰهَا عَذَابࣰا نُّكۡرࣰا ۝٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And how many a city was insolent toward the command of its Lord and His messengers, so We took it to severe account and punished it with a terrible punishment
Abdel Haleem: Many a town that insolently opposed the command of its Lord and His messengers We have brought sternly to account: We punished them severel
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And how many a community revolted against the ordinance of its Lord and His messengers, and We called it to a stern account and punished it with dire punishment
The Heights, The Elevated Places 7:166 Verb
فَلَمَّا عَتَوۡا۟ عَن مَّا نُهُوا۟ عَنۡهُ قُلۡنَا لَهُمۡ كُونُوا۟ قِرَدَةً خَـٰسِءِینَ ۝١٦٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So when they were insolent about that which they had been forbidden, We said to them, "Be apes, despised."
Abdel Haleem: When, in their arrogance, they persisted in doing what they had been forbidden to do, We said to them, ‘Be like apes! Be outcasts!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So when they took pride in that which they had been forbidden, We said unto them: Be ye apes despised and loathed
The Heights, The Elevated Places 7:77 Verb
فَعَقَرُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةَ وَعَتَوۡا۟ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰصَـٰلِحُ ٱئۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَاۤ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٧٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So they hamstrung the she-camel and were insolent toward the command of their Lord and said, "O Salih, bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the messengers."
Abdel Haleem: and then they hamstrung the camel. They defied their Lord’s commandment and said, ‘Salih, bring down the punishment you threaten, if you really are a messenger!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So they hamstrung the she-camel, and they flouted the commandment of their Lord, and they said: O Salih! Bring upon us that thou threatenest if thou art indeed of those sent (from Allah)
