وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی مَدَّ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَجَعَلَ فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣰاۖ وَمِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ جَعَلَ فِیهَا زَوۡجَیۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِۖ یُغۡشِی ٱلَّیۡلَ ٱلنَّهَارَۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates; He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought
Abdel Haleem:
it is He who spread out the earth, placed firm mountains and rivers on it, and made two of every kind of fruit; He draws the veil of night over the day. There truly are signs in this for people who reflect
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And He it is Who spread out the earth and placed therein firm hills and flowing streams, and of all fruits He placed therein two spouses (male and female). He covereth the night with the day. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who take thought
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مَّوۡزُونࣲ ١٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing
Abdel Haleem:
As for the earth, We have spread it out, set firm mountains on it, and made everything grow there in due balance
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And the earth have We spread out, and placed therein firm hills, and caused each seemly thing to grow therein
لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَیۡنَیۡكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعۡنَا بِهِۦۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَلَا تَحۡزَنۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَٱخۡفِضۡ جَنَاحَكَ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ٨٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believer
Abdel Haleem:
Do not look longingly at the good things We have given some to enjoy. Do not grieve over the [disbelievers], but lower your wings over the believer
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Strain not thine eyes toward that which We cause some wedded pairs among them to enjoin, and be not grieved on their account, and lower thy wing (in tenderness) for the believers
كُلࣰّا نُّمِدُّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ وَهَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ مِنۡ عَطَاۤءِ رَبِّكَۚ وَمَا كَانَ عَطَاۤءُ رَبِّكَ مَحۡظُورًا ٢٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
To each [category] We extend - to these and to those - from the gift of your Lord. And never has the gift of your Lord been restricted
Abdel Haleem:
To both the latter and the former, We give some of your Lord’s bounty. [Prophet], your Lord’s bounty is not restricted
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Each do We supply, both these and those, from the bounty of thy Lord. And the bounty of thy Lord can never be walled up
ثُمَّ رَدَدۡنَا لَكُمُ ٱلۡكَرَّةَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَأَمۡدَدۡنَـٰكُم بِأَمۡوَ ٰلࣲ وَبَنِینَ وَجَعَلۡنَـٰكُمۡ أَكۡثَرَ نَفِیرًا ٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Then We gave back to you a return victory over them. And We reinforced you with wealth and sons and made you more numerous in manpowe
Abdel Haleem:
but then We allowed you to prevail against your enemy. We increased your wealth and offspring and made you more numerous––
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Then we gave you once again your turn against them, and We aided you with wealth and children and made you more in soldiery
Mary 19:75
Verb
قُلۡ مَن كَانَ فِی ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةِ فَلۡیَمۡدُدۡ لَهُ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ مَدًّاۚ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا رَأَوۡا۟ مَا یُوعَدُونَ إِمَّا ٱلۡعَذَابَ وَإِمَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ فَسَیَعۡلَمُونَ مَنۡ هُوَ شَرࣱّ مَّكَانࣰا وَأَضۡعَفُ جُندࣰا ٧٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Say, "Whoever is in error - let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension [in wealth and time] until, when they see that which they were promised - either punishment [in this world] or the Hour [of resurrection] - they will come to know who is worst in position and weaker in soldiers."
Abdel Haleem:
Say [Prophet], ‘The Lord of Mercy lengthens [the lives] of the misguided, until, when they are confronted with what they have been warned about- either the punishment [in this life] or the Hour [of Judgement]- they realize who is worse situated and who has the weakest forces.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Say: As for him who is in error, the Beneficent will verily prolong his span of life until, when they behold that which they were promised, whether it be punishment (in the world), or the Hour (of doom), they will know who is worse in position and who is weaker as an army
Mary 19:79
Verb
كَلَّاۚ سَنَكۡتُبُ مَا یَقُولُ وَنَمُدُّ لَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ مَدࣰّا ٧٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
No! We will record what he says and extend for him from the punishment extensively
Abdel Haleem:
No! We shall certainly record what he says and prolong his punishment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Nay, but We shall record that which he saith and prolong for him a span of torment
Ta Ha 20:131
Verb
وَلَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَیۡنَیۡكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعۡنَا بِهِۦۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ زَهۡرَةَ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا لِنَفۡتِنَهُمۡ فِیهِۚ وَرِزۡقُ رَبِّكَ خَیۡرࣱ وَأَبۡقَىٰ ١٣١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring
Abdel Haleem:
and do not gaze longingly at what We have given some of them to enjoy, the finery of this present life: We test them through this, but the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And strain not thine eyes toward that which We cause some wedded pairs among them to enjoy, the flower of the life of the world, that We may try them thereby. The provision of thy Lord is better and more lasting
The Pilgrimage 22:15
Verb
مَن كَانَ یَظُنُّ أَن لَّن یَنصُرَهُ ٱللَّهُ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ فَلۡیَمۡدُدۡ بِسَبَبٍ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ ثُمَّ لۡیَقۡطَعۡ فَلۡیَنظُرۡ هَلۡ یُذۡهِبَنَّ كَیۡدُهُۥ مَا یَغِیظُ ١٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Whoever should think that Allah will not support [Prophet Muhammad] in this world and the Hereafter - let him extend a rope to the ceiling, then cut off [his breath], and let him see: will his effort remove that which enrages [him]
Abdel Haleem:
Anyone who thinks that God will not support him in this world and the next should stretch a rope up to the sky, climb all the way up it, and see whether this strategy removes the cause of his anger
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Whoso is wont to think (through envy) that Allah will not give him (Muhammad) victory in the world and the Hereafter (and is enraged at the thought of his victory), let him stretch a rope up to the roof (of his dwelling), and let him hang himself. Then let him see whether his strategy dispelleth that whereat he rageth!
The Believers 23:55
Verb
أَیَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالࣲ وَبَنِینَ ٥٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and childre
Abdel Haleem:
Do they reckon that, by giving them wealth and sons
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Think they that in the wealth and sons wherewith We provide the
أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَیۡفَ مَدَّ ٱلظِّلَّ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ لَجَعَلَهُۥ سَاكِنࣰا ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَا ٱلشَّمۡسَ عَلَیۡهِ دَلِیلࣰا ٤٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Have you not considered your Lord - how He extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could have made it stationary? Then We made the sun for it an indication
Abdel Haleem:
Do you not see how your Lord lengthens the shade? If He had willed, He could have made it stand still- We made the sun its indicator
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Hast thou not seen how thy Lord hath spread the shade - And if He willed He could have made it still - then We have made the sun its pilot
The Poets 26:132
Verb
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ١٣٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And fear He who provided you with that which you know
Abdel Haleem:
be mindful of Him who has provided you with everything you know
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know
The Poets 26:133
Verb
أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنۡعَـٰمࣲ وَبَنِینَ ١٣٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Provided you with grazing livestock and childre
Abdel Haleem:
He has given you livestock, sons
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Hath aided you with cattle and sons
فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ سُلَیۡمَـٰنَ قَالَ أَتُمِدُّونَنِ بِمَالࣲ فَمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰنِۦَ ٱللَّهُ خَیۡرࣱ مِّمَّاۤ ءَاتَىٰكُمۚ بَلۡ أَنتُم بِهَدِیَّتِكُمۡ تَفۡرَحُونَ ٣٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
So when they came to Solomon, he said, "Do you provide me with wealth? But what Allah has given me is better than what He has given you. Rather, it is you who rejoice in your gift
Abdel Haleem:
When her envoy came to Solomon, Solomon said, ‘What! Are you offering me wealth? What God has given me is better than what He has given you, though you rejoice in this gift of yours
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
So when (the envoy) came unto Solomon, (the King) said: What! Would ye help me with wealth? But that which Allah hath given me is better than that which He hath given you. Nay it is ye (and not I) who exult in your gift
The Cow 2:15
Verb
ٱللَّهُ یَسۡتَهۡزِئُ بِهِمۡ وَیَمُدُّهُمۡ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ١٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[But] Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly
Abdel Haleem:
God is mocking them, and allowing them more slack to wander blindly in their insolence
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Allah (Himself) doth mock them, leaving them to wander blindly on in their contumacy
Luqman, Lukman 31:27
Verb
وَلَوۡ أَنَّمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِن شَجَرَةٍ أَقۡلَـٰمࣱ وَٱلۡبَحۡرُ یَمُدُّهُۥ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ سَبۡعَةُ أَبۡحُرࣲ مَّا نَفِدَتۡ كَلِمَـٰتُ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ ٢٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words of Allah would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise
Abdel Haleem:
If all the trees on earth were pens and all the seas, with seven more seas besides, [were ink,] still God’s words would not run out: God is almighty and all wise
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And if all the trees in the earth were pens, and the sea, with seven more seas to help it, (were ink), the words of Allah could not be exhausted. Lo! Allah is Mighty, Wise
إِذۡ تَقُولُ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ أَلَن یَكۡفِیَكُمۡ أَن یُمِدَّكُمۡ رَبُّكُم بِثَلَـٰثَةِ ءَالَـٰفࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ مُنزَلِینَ ١٢٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[Remember] when you said to the believers, "Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down
Abdel Haleem:
Remember when you said to the believers, ‘Will you be satisfied if your Lord reinforces you by send-ing down three thousand angels
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
When thou didst say unto the believers: Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord should support you with three thousand angels sent down (to your help)
بَلَىٰۤۚ إِن تَصۡبِرُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ وَیَأۡتُوكُم مِّن فَوۡرِهِمۡ هَـٰذَا یُمۡدِدۡكُمۡ رَبُّكُم بِخَمۡسَةِ ءَالَـٰفࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ مُسَوِّمِینَ ١٢٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Yes, if you remain patient and conscious of Allah and the enemy come upon you [attacking] in rage, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels having marks [of distinction]
Abdel Haleem:
Well, if you are steadfast and mindful of God, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand swooping angels if the enemy should suddenly attack you!’ and God arranged it so
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Nay, but if ye persevere, and keep from evil, and (the enemy) attack you suddenly, your Lord will help you with five thousand angels sweeping on
The Letter Qaf 50:7
Verb
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجِۭ بَهِیجࣲ ٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And the earth - We spread it out and cast therein firmly set mountains and made grow therein [something] of every beautiful kind
Abdel Haleem:
how We spread out the earth and put solid mountains on it, and caused every kind of joyous plant to grow in it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And the earth have We spread out, and have flung firm hills therein, and have caused of every lovely kind to grow thereon
وَأَمۡدَدۡنَـٰهُم بِفَـٰكِهَةࣲ وَلَحۡمࣲ مِّمَّا یَشۡتَهُونَ ٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire
Abdel Haleem:
We provide them with any fruit or meat they desire
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire
Noah 71:12
Verb
وَیُمۡدِدۡكُم بِأَمۡوَ ٰلࣲ وَبَنِینَ وَیَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَیَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ أَنۡهَـٰرࣰا ١٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers
Abdel Haleem:
He will give you wealth and sons; He will provide you with gardens and rivers
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And will help you with wealth and sons, and will assign unto you Gardens and will assign unto you rivers
وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُهُمۡ یَمُدُّونَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡغَیِّ ثُمَّ لَا یُقۡصِرُونَ ٢٠٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
But their brothers - the devils increase them in error; then they do not stop short
Abdel Haleem:
the followers of devils are led relentlessly into error by them and cannot stop
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Their brethren plunge them further into error and cease not
وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ

The Cave 18:109
Noun
قُل لَّوۡ كَانَ ٱلۡبَحۡرُ مِدَادࣰا لِّكَلِمَـٰتِ رَبِّی لَنَفِدَ ٱلۡبَحۡرُ قَبۡلَ أَن تَنفَدَ كَلِمَـٰتُ رَبِّی وَلَوۡ جِئۡنَا بِمِثۡلِهِۦ مَدَدࣰا ١٠٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it as a supplement."
Abdel Haleem:
Say [Prophet], ‘If the whole ocean were ink for writing the words of my Lord, it would run dry before those words were exhausted’- even if We were to add another ocean to it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Say: Though the sea became ink for the Words of my Lord, verily the sea would be used up before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even though We brought the like thereof to help
Mary 19:75
Noun

Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And to whom I granted extensive wealt
Abdel Haleem:
then gave vast wealth
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And then bestowed upon him ample means
إِذۡ تَسۡتَغِیثُونَ رَبَّكُمۡ فَٱسۡتَجَابَ لَكُمۡ أَنِّی مُمِدُّكُم بِأَلۡفࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ مُرۡدِفِینَ ٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[Remember] when you asked help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another."
Abdel Haleem:
When you begged your Lord for help, He answered you, ‘I will reinforce you with a thousand angels in succession.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
When ye sought help of your Lord and He answered you (saying): I will help you with a thousand of the angels, rank on rank
Repentance 9:4
Noun
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِینَ عَـٰهَدتُّم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ثُمَّ لَمۡ یَنقُصُوكُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَمۡ یُظَـٰهِرُوا۟ عَلَیۡكُمۡ أَحَدࣰا فَأَتِمُّوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِمۡ عَهۡدَهُمۡ إِلَىٰ مُدَّتِهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him]
Abdel Haleem:
As for those who have honoured the treaty you made with them and who have not supported anyone against you: fulfil your agreement with them to the end of their term. God loves those who are mindful of Him
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Excepting those of the idolaters with whom ye (Muslims) have a treaty, and who have since abated nothing of your right nor have supported anyone against you. (As for these), fulfil their treaty to them till their term. Lo! Allah loveth those who keep their duty (unto Him)
