فَأَتَتۡ بِهِۦ قَوۡمَهَا تَحۡمِلُهُۥۖ قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمَرۡیَمُ لَقَدۡ جِئۡتِ شَیۡءࣰا فَرِیࣰّا ٢٧
fa-atat bihi qawmahā taḥmiluhu qālū yāmaryamu laqad ji'ti shayan fariyya
She went back to her people carrying the child, and they said, ‘Mary! You have done something terrible
28
یَـٰۤأُخۡتَ هَـٰرُونَ مَا كَانَ أَبُوكِ ٱمۡرَأَ سَوۡءࣲ وَمَا كَانَتۡ أُمُّكِ بَغِیࣰّا ٢٨
yāukh'ta hārūna mā kāna abūki im'ra-a sawin wamā kānat ummuki baghiyya
Sister of Aaron! Your father was not an evil man; your mother was not unchaste!’
29
فَأَشَارَتۡ إِلَیۡهِۖ قَالُوا۟ كَیۡفَ نُكَلِّمُ مَن كَانَ فِی ٱلۡمَهۡدِ صَبِیࣰّا ٢٩
fa-ashārat ilayhi qālū kayfa nukallimu man kāna fī l-mahdi ṣabiyya
She pointed at him. They said, ‘How can we converse with an infant?’
30
قَالَ إِنِّی عَبۡدُ ٱللَّهِ ءَاتَىٰنِیَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَجَعَلَنِی نَبِیࣰّا ٣٠
qāla innī ʿabdu l-lahi ātāniya l-kitāba wajaʿalanī nabiyya
[But] he said: ‘I am a servant of God. He has granted me the Scripture; made me a prophet
31
وَجَعَلَنِی مُبَارَكًا أَیۡنَ مَا كُنتُ وَأَوۡصَـٰنِی بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَٱلزَّكَوٰةِ مَا دُمۡتُ حَیࣰّا ٣١
wajaʿalanī mubārakan ayna mā kuntu wa-awṣānī bil-ṣalati wal-zakati mā dum'tu ḥayya
made me blessed wherever I may be. He commanded me to pray, to give alms as long as I live
32
وَبَرَّۢا بِوَ ٰلِدَتِی وَلَمۡ یَجۡعَلۡنِی جَبَّارࣰا شَقِیࣰّا ٣٢
wabarran biwālidatī walam yajʿalnī jabbāran shaqiyya
to cherish my mother. He did not make me domineering or graceless
33
وَٱلسَّلَـٰمُ عَلَیَّ یَوۡمَ وُلِدتُّ وَیَوۡمَ أَمُوتُ وَیَوۡمَ أُبۡعَثُ حَیࣰّا ٣٣
wal-salāmu ʿalayya yawma wulidttu wayawma amūtu wayawma ub'ʿathu ḥayya
Peace was on me the day I was born, and will be on me the day I die and the day I am raised to life again.’
34
ذَ ٰلِكَ عِیسَى ٱبۡنُ مَرۡیَمَۖ قَوۡلَ ٱلۡحَقِّ ٱلَّذِی فِیهِ یَمۡتَرُونَ ٣٤
dhālika ʿīsā ub'nu maryama qawla l-ḥaqi alladhī fīhi yamtarūn
Such was Jesus, son of Mary. [This is] a statement of the Truth about which they are in doubt
35
مَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ أَن یَتَّخِذَ مِن وَلَدࣲۖ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥۤۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰۤ أَمۡرࣰا فَإِنَّمَا یَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَیَكُونُ ٣٥
mā kāna lillahi an yattakhidha min waladin sub'ḥānahu idhā qaḍā amran fa-innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fayakūn
it would not befit God to have a child. He is far above that: when He decrees something, He says only, ‘Be,’ and it is
