Verse 26:204 in Context

200 كَذَ ٰلِكَ سَلَكۡنَـٰهُ فِی قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٢٠٠ kadhālika salaknāhu fī qulūbi l-muj'rimīn So We make it pass straight through the hearts of the guilty 201 لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ یَرَوُا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَلِیمَ ۝٢٠١ lā yu'minūna bihi ḥattā yarawū l-ʿadhāba l-alīm they will not believe in it until they see the grievous torment 202 فَیَأۡتِیَهُم بَغۡتَةࣰ وَهُمۡ لَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٢٠٢ fayatiyahum baghtatan wahum lā yashʿurūn which will suddenly hit them when they are not expecting it 203 فَیَقُولُوا۟ هَلۡ نَحۡنُ مُنظَرُونَ ۝٢٠٣ fayaqūlū hal naḥnu munẓarūn and then they will say, ‘Can we have more time?’
204 أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا یَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ ۝٢٠٤ afabiʿadhābinā yastaʿjilūn How can they ask that Our punishment be brought to them sooner
205 أَفَرَءَیۡتَ إِن مَّتَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ سِنِینَ ۝٢٠٥ afara-ayta in mattaʿnāhum sinīn Think, if we let them enjoy this life for some year 206 ثُمَّ جَاۤءَهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یُوعَدُونَ ۝٢٠٦ thumma jāahum mā kānū yūʿadūn and then the promised torment came upon them 207 مَاۤ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یُمَتَّعُونَ ۝٢٠٧ mā aghnā ʿanhum mā kānū yumattaʿūn what good would their past enjoyment be to them 208 وَمَاۤ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَرۡیَةٍ إِلَّا لَهَا مُنذِرُونَ ۝٢٠٨ wamā ahlaknā min qaryatin illā lahā mundhirūn Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it
