27 قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَكُمُ ٱلَّذِیۤ أُرۡسِلَ إِلَیۡكُمۡ لَمَجۡنُونࣱ ۝٢٧ qāla inna rasūlakumu alladhī ur'sila ilaykum lamajnūnu Pharaoh said, ‘This messenger who has been sent to you is truly possessed.’ 28 قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغۡرِبِ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَاۤۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٢٨ qāla rabbu l-mashriqi wal-maghribi wamā baynahumā in kuntum taʿqilūn Moses continued, ‘Lord of the East and West and everything between them. If you would only use your reason!’ 29 قَالَ لَىِٕنِ ٱتَّخَذۡتَ إِلَـٰهًا غَیۡرِی لَأَجۡعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمَسۡجُونِینَ ۝٢٩ qāla la-ini ittakhadhta ilāhan ghayrī la-ajʿalannaka mina l-masjūnīn But Pharaoh said [to him], ‘If you take any god other than me, I will throw you into prison,’ 30 قَالَ أَوَ لَوۡ جِئۡتُكَ بِشَیۡءࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٣٠ qāla awalaw ji'tuka bishayin mubīni and Moses asked, ‘Even if I show you something convincing?’
31 قَالَ فَأۡتِ بِهِۦۤ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝٣١ qāla fati bihi in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīn ‘Show it then,’ said Pharaoh, ‘if you are telling the truth.’
32 فَأَلۡقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِیَ ثُعۡبَانࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٣٢ fa-alqā ʿaṣāhu fa-idhā hiya thuʿ'bānun mubīnu So Moses threw down his staff and- lo and behold!- it became a snake for everyone to see 33 وَنَزَعَ یَدَهُۥ فَإِذَا هِیَ بَیۡضَاۤءُ لِلنَّـٰظِرِینَ ۝٣٣ wanazaʿa yadahu fa-idhā hiya bayḍāu lilnnāẓirīn Then he drew out his hand and- lo and behold!- it was white for the onlookers to see 34 قَالَ لِلۡمَلَإِ حَوۡلَهُۥۤ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسَـٰحِرٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٣٤ qāla lil'mala-i ḥawlahu inna hādhā lasāḥirun ʿalīmu Pharaoh said to the counsellors around him, ‘This man is a learned sorcerer 35 یُرِیدُ أَن یُخۡرِجَكُم مِّنۡ أَرۡضِكُم بِسِحۡرِهِۦ فَمَاذَا تَأۡمُرُونَ ۝٣٥ yurīdu an yukh'rijakum min arḍikum bisiḥ'rihi famādhā tamurūn He means to use his sorcery to drive you out of your land! What do you suggest?’
