Verse 3:91 in Context

87
أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ جَزَاۤؤُهُمۡ أَنَّ عَلَیۡهِمۡ لَعۡنَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ أَجۡمَعِینَ ٨٧
ulāika jazāuhum anna ʿalayhim laʿnata l-lahi wal-malāikati wal-nāsi ajmaʿīn
such people will be rewarded with rejection by God, by the angels, by all people
88
خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَا لَا یُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنظَرُونَ ٨٨
khālidīna fīhā lā yukhaffafu ʿanhumu l-ʿadhābu walā hum yunẓarūn
and so they will remain, with no relief or respite for their suffering
89
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِینَ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَ ٰلِكَ وَأَصۡلَحُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ٨٩
illā alladhīna tābū min baʿdi dhālika wa-aṣlaḥū fa-inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu
Not so those who afterwards repent and mend their ways- God is most forgiving and merciful
90
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بَعۡدَ إِیمَـٰنِهِمۡ ثُمَّ ٱزۡدَادُوا۟ كُفۡرࣰا لَّن تُقۡبَلَ تَوۡبَتُهُمۡ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلضَّاۤلُّونَ ٩٠
inna alladhīna kafarū baʿda īmānihim thumma iz'dādū kuf'ran lan tuq'bala tawbatuhum wa-ulāika humu l-ḍālūn
[although] the repentance of those who, having believed, then increase in their disbelief, will not be accepted. They are the ones who have gone [far] astray
91
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمۡ كُفَّارࣱ فَلَن یُقۡبَلَ مِنۡ أَحَدِهِم مِّلۡءُ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَهَبࣰا وَلَوِ ٱفۡتَدَىٰ بِهِۦۤۗ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِینَ ٩١
inna alladhīna kafarū wamātū wahum kuffārun falan yuq'bala min aḥadihim mil'u l-arḍi dhahaban walawi if'tadā bihi ulāika lahum ʿadhābun alīmun wamā lahum min nāṣirīn
those who disbelieve and die disbelievers will not be saved even if they offer enough gold to fill the entire earth. Agonizing torment is in store for them, and there will be no one to help them
92
لَن تَنَالُوا۟ ٱلۡبِرَّ حَتَّىٰ تُنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُوا۟ مِن شَیۡءࣲ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِهِۦ عَلِیمࣱ ٩٢
lan tanālū l-bira ḥattā tunfiqū mimmā tuḥibbūna wamā tunfiqū min shayin fa-inna l-laha bihi ʿalīmu
None of you [believers] will attain true piety unless you give out of what you cherish: whatever you give, God knows about it very well
93
۞ كُلُّ ٱلطَّعَامِ كَانَ حِلࣰّا لِّبَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ إِلَّا مَا حَرَّمَ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلُ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِۦ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن تُنَزَّلَ ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةُۚ قُلۡ فَأۡتُوا۟ بِٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِ فَٱتۡلُوهَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ٩٣
kullu l-ṭaʿāmi kāna ḥillan libanī is'rāīla illā mā ḥarrama is'rāīlu ʿalā nafsihi min qabli an tunazzala l-tawrātu qul fatū bil-tawrāti fa-it'lūhā in kuntum ṣādiqīn
Except for what Israel made unlawful for himself, all food was lawful to the Children of Israel before the Torah was revealed. Say, ‘Bring the Torah and read out [the relevant passage] if you are telling the truth
94
فَمَنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَ ٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ٩٤
famani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba min baʿdi dhālika fa-ulāika humu l-ẓālimūn
Those who persist in making up lies and attributing them to God after this are the wrongdoers.’
95
قُلۡ صَدَقَ ٱللَّهُۗ فَٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مِلَّةَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ حَنِیفࣰاۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ٩٥
qul ṣadaqa l-lahu fa-ittabiʿū millata ib'rāhīma ḥanīfan wamā kāna mina l-mush'rikīn
[Prophet], say, ‘God speaks the truth, so follow Abraham’s religion: he had true faith and he was never an idolater.’
