Verse 51:48 in Context

44 فَعَتَوۡا۟ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُ وَهُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ ۝٤٤ faʿataw ʿan amri rabbihim fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣāʿiqatu wahum yanẓurūn but they rebelled against their Lord’s command, so the blast took them. They looked on helplessly 45 فَمَا ٱسۡتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مِن قِیَامࣲ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنتَصِرِینَ ۝٤٥ famā is'taṭāʿū min qiyāmin wamā kānū muntaṣirīn they could not even remain standing, let alone defend themselves 46 وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمࣰا فَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٤٦ waqawma nūḥin min qablu innahum kānū qawman fāsiqīn Before that We destroyed the people of Noah. They were a truly sinful people 47 وَٱلسَّمَاۤءَ بَنَیۡنَـٰهَا بِأَیۡی۟دࣲ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ ۝٤٧ wal-samāa banaynāhā bi-aydin wa-innā lamūsiʿūn We built the heavens with Our power and made them vast
48 وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فَرَشۡنَـٰهَا فَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمَـٰهِدُونَ ۝٤٨ wal-arḍa farashnāhā faniʿ'ma l-māhidūn We spread out the earth- how well We smoothed it out!
49 وَمِن كُلِّ شَیۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَا زَوۡجَیۡنِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٤٩ wamin kulli shayin khalaqnā zawjayni laʿallakum tadhakkarūn and We created pairs of all things so that you [people] might take note 50 فَفِرُّوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّی لَكُم مِّنۡهُ نَذِیرࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٥٠ fafirrū ilā l-lahi innī lakum min'hu nadhīrun mubīnu [So, say to them, Prophet], ‘Quickly, turn to God- I am sent by Him to give you clear warning 51 وَلَا تَجۡعَلُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَۖ إِنِّی لَكُم مِّنۡهُ نَذِیرࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٥١ walā tajʿalū maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara innī lakum min'hu nadhīrun mubīnu and do not set up any other god alongside Him. I am sent by Him to give you clear warning!’ 52 كَذَ ٰلِكَ مَاۤ أَتَى ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا۟ سَاحِرٌ أَوۡ مَجۡنُونٌ ۝٥٢ kadhālika mā atā alladhīna min qablihim min rasūlin illā qālū sāḥirun aw majnūnu Every previous people to whom a messenger was sent also said, ‘A sor-cerer, or maybe a madman!’
