Verse 74:50 in Context

46 وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِیَوۡمِ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٤٦ wakunnā nukadhibu biyawmi l-dīn we denied the Day of Judgemen 47 حَتَّىٰۤ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلۡیَقِینُ ۝٤٧ ḥattā atānā l-yaqīn until the Certain End came upon us.’ 48 فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمۡ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِینَ ۝٤٨ famā tanfaʿuhum shafāʿatu l-shāfiʿīn No intercessor’s plea will benefit them now 49 فَمَا لَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلتَّذۡكِرَةِ مُعۡرِضِینَ ۝٤٩ famā lahum ʿani l-tadhkirati muʿ'riḍīn What is the matter with them? Why do they turn away from the warning
50 كَأَنَّهُمۡ حُمُرࣱ مُّسۡتَنفِرَةࣱ ۝٥٠ ka-annahum ḥumurun mus'tanfiratu like frightened asse
51 فَرَّتۡ مِن قَسۡوَرَةِۭ ۝٥١ farrat min qaswarati fleeing from a lion 52 بَلۡ یُرِیدُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِىࣲٕ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن یُؤۡتَىٰ صُحُفࣰا مُّنَشَّرَةࣰ ۝٥٢ bal yurīdu kullu im'ri-in min'hum an yu'tā ṣuḥufan munasharata Each one of them demands that a scripture be sent down to him and unrolled before his very eyes 53 كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا یَخَافُونَ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةَ ۝٥٣ kallā bal lā yakhāfūna l-ākhirat No! Truly they have no fear of the life to come 54 كَلَّاۤ إِنَّهُۥ تَذۡكِرَةࣱ ۝٥٤ kallā innahu tadhkiratu but truly this is a reminder
