1 Obedience to Allah

تَنزِیلُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡحَكِیمِ ۝١

Revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Omnipotent, the Wise

tanzīlu l-kitābi mina l-lahi l-ʿazīzi l-ḥakīm

إِنَّاۤ أَنزَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَٱعۡبُدِ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصࣰا لَّهُ ٱلدِّینَ ۝٢

We have revealed the Book to you [Prophet Muhammad] in Truth, indeed! Worship Allah, then, consecrating your lifestyle exclusively for Him

innā anzalnā ilayka l-kitāba bil-ḥaqi fa-uʿ'budi l-laha mukh'liṣan lahu l-dīn

أَلَا لِلَّهِ ٱلدِّینُ ٱلۡخَالِصُۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ مَا نَعۡبُدُهُمۡ إِلَّا لِیُقَرِّبُونَاۤ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ زُلۡفَىٰۤ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَحۡكُمُ بَیۡنَهُمۡ فِی مَا هُمۡ فِیهِ یَخۡتَلِفُونَۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَهۡدِی مَنۡ هُوَ كَـٰذِبࣱ كَفَّارࣱ ۝٣

Is it not for Allah that the pure way of life is!? And those who have taken awliya besides Allah (say), "We worship them not but that they may bring us nearer to Allah." Allah will indeed decide among them concerning what they differ in. Allah does indeed not guide anyone who is a lying suppressor of the Truth

alā lillahi l-dīnu l-khāliṣu wa-alladhīna ittakhadhū min dūnihi awliyāa mā naʿbuduhum illā liyuqarribūnā ilā l-lahi zul'fā inna l-laha yaḥkumu baynahum fī mā hum fīhi yakhtalifūna inna l-laha lā yahdī man huwa kādhibun kaffāru

لَّوۡ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ أَن یَتَّخِذَ وَلَدࣰا لَّٱصۡطَفَىٰ مِمَّا یَخۡلُقُ مَا یَشَاۤءُۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥۖ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡوَ ٰحِدُ ٱلۡقَهَّارُ ۝٤

Had Allah wanted to have a son, He could have chosen anyone He willed out of those whom He created. Glorified is He! He is Allah: the One and Only, the Almighty

law arāda l-lahu an yattakhidha waladan la-iṣ'ṭafā mimmā yakhluqu mā yashāu sub'ḥānahu huwa l-lahu l-wāḥidu l-qahār

خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ یُكَوِّرُ ٱلَّیۡلَ عَلَى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَیُكَوِّرُ ٱلنَّهَارَ عَلَى ٱلَّیۡلِۖ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ كُلࣱّ یَجۡرِی لِأَجَلࣲ مُّسَمًّىۗ أَلَا هُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡغَفَّـٰرُ ۝٥

He created the heavens and the earth; and it was His privilege to create them. He wraps the day over the night and wraps the night over the day. And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each to run its course until an appointed time. Is He not the Omnipotent, the Ultimate Forgiver!

khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqi yukawwiru al-layla ʿalā l-nahāri wayukawwiru l-nahāra ʿalā al-layli wasakhara l-shamsa wal-qamara kullun yajrī li-ajalin musamman alā huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ghafār

خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفۡسࣲ وَ ٰحِدَةࣲ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنۡهَا زَوۡجَهَا وَأَنزَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ ثَمَـٰنِیَةَ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣲۚ یَخۡلُقُكُمۡ فِی بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمۡ خَلۡقࣰا مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ خَلۡقࣲ فِی ظُلُمَـٰتࣲ ثَلَـٰثࣲۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡ لَهُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُۖ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُصۡرَفُونَ ۝٦

He (Allah) created you from a single being (Adam), and from that single being He made its mate. And He sent down for you eight cattle in pairs.ah He creates you in your mothersԠwombs, giving you one form after another inside three layers of darkness. That is Allah, your Lord. His is the sovereignty over all things. There is none worthy of worship other than Him. So what has made you turn away

khalaqakum min nafsin wāḥidatin thumma jaʿala min'hā zawjahā wa-anzala lakum mina l-anʿāmi thamāniyata azwājin yakhluqukum fī buṭūni ummahātikum khalqan min baʿdi khalqin fī ẓulumātin thalāthin dhālikumu l-lahu rabbukum lahu l-mul'ku lā ilāha illā huwa fa-annā tuṣ'rafūn

إِن تَكۡفُرُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِیٌّ عَنكُمۡۖ وَلَا یَرۡضَىٰ لِعِبَادِهِ ٱلۡكُفۡرَۖ وَإِن تَشۡكُرُوا۟ یَرۡضَهُ لَكُمۡۗ وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةࣱ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰۚ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُم مَّرۡجِعُكُمۡ فَیُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِیمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ ۝٧

If you suppress the Truth, then indeed Allah stands in no need of you. And He likes not that His subjects should suppress the Truth. And if you are grateful, He likes that for you. None shall bear anotherճ burden. Then to your Lord is your return and He will tell you what you had been doing. He is indeed well aware of what lies hidden in your minds

in takfurū fa-inna l-laha ghaniyyun ʿankum walā yarḍā liʿibādihi l-kuf'ra wa-in tashkurū yarḍahu lakum walā taziru wāziratun wiz'ra ukh'rā thumma ilā rabbikum marjiʿukum fayunabbi-ukum bimā kuntum taʿmalūna innahu ʿalīmun bidhāti l-ṣudūr

۞ وَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ ضُرࣱّ دَعَا رَبَّهُۥ مُنِیبًا إِلَیۡهِ ثُمَّ إِذَا خَوَّلَهُۥ نِعۡمَةࣰ مِّنۡهُ نَسِیَ مَا كَانَ یَدۡعُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِ مِن قَبۡلُ وَجَعَلَ لِلَّهِ أَندَادࣰا لِّیُضِلَّ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦۚ قُلۡ تَمَتَّعۡ بِكُفۡرِكَ قَلِیلًا إِنَّكَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلنَّارِ ۝٨

When any affliction affects man, he cries out to his Lord, turning to Him alone. Then when his Lord bestows His favour upon him, he forgets what he had cried out to Him for before, and sets up rivals to Allah that they may lead others astray from His Path. Say, (O Prophet), "Enjoy your suppression of the Truth for a while. Indeed, you will be among the inmates of the Fire."

wa-idhā massa l-insāna ḍurrun daʿā rabbahu munīban ilayhi thumma idhā khawwalahu niʿ'matan min'hu nasiya mā kāna yadʿū ilayhi min qablu wajaʿala lillahi andādan liyuḍilla ʿan sabīlihi qul tamattaʿ bikuf'rika qalīlan innaka min aṣḥābi l-nār

أَمَّنۡ هُوَ قَـٰنِتٌ ءَانَاۤءَ ٱلَّیۡلِ سَاجِدࣰا وَقَاۤىِٕمࣰا یَحۡذَرُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةَ وَیَرۡجُوا۟ رَحۡمَةَ رَبِّهِۦۗ قُلۡ هَلۡ یَسۡتَوِی ٱلَّذِینَ یَعۡلَمُونَ وَٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَۗ إِنَّمَا یَتَذَكَّرُ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝٩

Or [take the example of] one who remembers Allah assiduously during parts of the night, prostrating and standing, fears the Hereafter, and seeks His Lord's mercy [and] ask, "Are those who know [like that one] equal to those who do not know?" Only those endowed with insight take heed

amman huwa qānitun ānāa al-layli sājidan waqāiman yaḥdharu l-ākhirata wayarjū raḥmata rabbihi qul hal yastawī alladhīna yaʿlamūna wa-alladhīna lā yaʿlamūna innamā yatadhakkaru ulū l-albāb

2 Believers and Disbelievers

قُلۡ یَـٰعِبَادِ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ رَبَّكُمۡۚ لِلَّذِینَ أَحۡسَنُوا۟ فِی هَـٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا حَسَنَةࣱۗ وَأَرۡضُ ٱللَّهِ وَ ٰسِعَةٌۗ إِنَّمَا یُوَفَّى ٱلصَّـٰبِرُونَ أَجۡرَهُم بِغَیۡرِ حِسَابࣲ ۝١٠

Say, "O my fellow subjects of Allah who believe, fear your Lord! A good reward awaits those who are good in this world. And Allah's earth is spacious. Indeed those who persevere shall be granted their reward without measure beyond what is due to them."

qul yāʿibādi alladhīna āmanū ittaqū rabbakum lilladhīna aḥsanū fī hādhihi l-dun'yā ḥasanatun wa-arḍu l-lahi wāsiʿatun innamā yuwaffā l-ṣābirūna ajrahum bighayri ḥisābi

قُلۡ إِنِّیۤ أُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَعۡبُدَ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصࣰا لَّهُ ٱلدِّینَ ۝١١

Say, "I am indeed commanded to worship Allah, consecrating my lifestyle exclusively to Him."

qul innī umir'tu an aʿbuda l-laha mukh'liṣan lahu l-dīn

وَأُمِرۡتُ لِأَنۡ أَكُونَ أَوَّلَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ ۝١٢

"And I am commanded to be the first of those who surrender to Him."

wa-umir'tu li-an akūna awwala l-mus'limīn

قُلۡ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ إِنۡ عَصَیۡتُ رَبِّی عَذَابَ یَوۡمٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝١٣

Say, "I do indeed fear the punishment of a dreadful Day if I disobey my Lord,."

qul innī akhāfu in ʿaṣaytu rabbī ʿadhāba yawmin ʿaẓīmi

قُلِ ٱللَّهَ أَعۡبُدُ مُخۡلِصࣰا لَّهُۥ دِینِی ۝١٤

Say, "Allah shall I worship, consecrating my lifestyle exclusively to Him."

quli l-laha aʿbudu mukh'liṣan lahu dīn

فَٱعۡبُدُوا۟ مَا شِئۡتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦۗ قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَأَهۡلِیهِمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۗ أَلَا ذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡخُسۡرَانُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝١٥

"You worship whomsoever you please, then, apart from Him." Say, "Those, indeed, shall be the losers who will have lost their own selves and their kith and kin on the Day of Resurrection! Is that not obviously the real loss?"

fa-uʿ'budū mā shi'tum min dūnihi qul inna l-khāsirīna alladhīna khasirū anfusahum wa-ahlīhim yawma l-qiyāmati alā dhālika huwa l-khus'rānu l-mubīn

لَهُم مِّن فَوۡقِهِمۡ ظُلَلࣱ مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ وَمِن تَحۡتِهِمۡ ظُلَلࣱۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یُخَوِّفُ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦ عِبَادَهُۥۚ یَـٰعِبَادِ فَٱتَّقُونِ ۝١٦

For them, sheets of fire above them and sheets beneath them! This is what Allah warns His subjects against. "Fear me then, O you subjects of Mine!"

lahum min fawqihim ẓulalun mina l-nāri wamin taḥtihim ẓulalun dhālika yukhawwifu l-lahu bihi ʿibādahu yāʿibādi fa-ittaqūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ ٱجۡتَنَبُوا۟ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ أَن یَعۡبُدُوهَا وَأَنَابُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ لَهُمُ ٱلۡبُشۡرَىٰۚ فَبَشِّرۡ عِبَادِ ۝١٧

And those who eschew worshipping false gods and return penitently to Allah — good news for them! (O Prophet!) Give good news to My subjects

wa-alladhīna ij'tanabū l-ṭāghūta an yaʿbudūhā wa-anābū ilā l-lahi lahumu l-bush'rā fabashir ʿibād

ٱلَّذِینَ یَسۡتَمِعُونَ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ فَیَتَّبِعُونَ أَحۡسَنَهُۥۤۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ هَدَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمۡ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝١٨

Those who pay heed to the Word [Qur'aan] and follow the the good guidance thereof. Those are the ones whom Allah has guided. And those are the ones endowed with insight

alladhīna yastamiʿūna l-qawla fayattabiʿūna aḥsanahu ulāika alladhīna hadāhumu l-lahu wa-ulāika hum ulū l-albāb

أَفَمَنۡ حَقَّ عَلَیۡهِ كَلِمَةُ ٱلۡعَذَابِ أَفَأَنتَ تُنقِذُ مَن فِی ٱلنَّارِ ۝١٩

What about the one on whom the sentence of punishment is decreed — can you save the one already in the Fire?"

afaman ḥaqqa ʿalayhi kalimatu l-ʿadhābi afa-anta tunqidhu man fī l-nār

لَـٰكِنِ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّقَوۡا۟ رَبَّهُمۡ لَهُمۡ غُرَفࣱ مِّن فَوۡقِهَا غُرَفࣱ مَّبۡنِیَّةࣱ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُۖ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ لَا یُخۡلِفُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمِیعَادَ ۝٢٠

But for those who fear their Lord there shall be chambers built over chambers beneath which rivers flow. Allahճ promise — and never does Allah fail to fulfill His promise

lākini alladhīna ittaqaw rabbahum lahum ghurafun min fawqihā ghurafun mabniyyatun tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru waʿda l-lahi lā yukh'lifu l-lahu l-mīʿād

أَلَمۡ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَسَلَكَهُۥ یَنَـٰبِیعَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ثُمَّ یُخۡرِجُ بِهِۦ زَرۡعࣰا مُّخۡتَلِفًا أَلۡوَ ٰنُهُۥ ثُمَّ یَهِیجُ فَتَرَىٰهُ مُصۡفَرࣰّا ثُمَّ یَجۡعَلُهُۥ حُطَـٰمًاۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَذِكۡرَىٰ لِأُو۟لِی ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝٢١

Do you not see that Allah sent down water from the sky, then made it flow on earth as resources of water, and then with it He brings out vegetation of various hues. Then this vegetation withers, and you see it turn yellow, and then He reduces it to rubble? Indeed there is a lesson in this for those endowed with insight

alam tara anna l-laha anzala mina l-samāi māan fasalakahu yanābīʿa fī l-arḍi thumma yukh'riju bihi zarʿan mukh'talifan alwānuhu thumma yahīju fatarāhu muṣ'farran thumma yajʿaluhu ḥuṭāman inna fī dhālika ladhik'rā li-ulī l-albāb

3 A Perfect Guidance

أَفَمَن شَرَحَ ٱللَّهُ صَدۡرَهُۥ لِلۡإِسۡلَـٰمِ فَهُوَ عَلَىٰ نُورࣲ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ فَوَیۡلࣱ لِّلۡقَـٰسِیَةِ قُلُوبُهُم مِّن ذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٢٢

Is one then whose head Allah has opened for Islam and who is guided by the light from his Lord (be likened to) those — woe to them — whose minds are hardened against any remembrance of Allah. Those are the ones who have obviously gone astray

afaman sharaḥa l-lahu ṣadrahu lil'is'lāmi fahuwa ʿalā nūrin min rabbihi fawaylun lil'qāsiyati qulūbuhum min dhik'ri l-lahi ulāika fī ḍalālin mubīni

ٱللَّهُ نَزَّلَ أَحۡسَنَ ٱلۡحَدِیثِ كِتَـٰبࣰا مُّتَشَـٰبِهࣰا مَّثَانِیَ تَقۡشَعِرُّ مِنۡهُ جُلُودُ ٱلَّذِینَ یَخۡشَوۡنَ رَبَّهُمۡ ثُمَّ تَلِینُ جُلُودُهُمۡ وَقُلُوبُهُمۡ إِلَىٰ ذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُدَى ٱللَّهِ یَهۡدِی بِهِۦ مَن یَشَاۤءُۚ وَمَن یُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡ هَادٍ ۝٢٣

Allah has sent down the best hadeeth [Qur'aan], a Book with oft-repeated passages resembling one another. Thereat shiver the skins of those that fear their Lord! And then their skins and their minds become receptive to Allahճ remembrance. That is Allahճ Guidance! He guides therewith whosoever He wills. And one whom Allah lets go astray has none to guide him

al-lahu nazzala aḥsana l-ḥadīthi kitāban mutashābihan mathāniya taqshaʿirru min'hu julūdu alladhīna yakhshawna rabbahum thumma talīnu julūduhum waqulūbuhum ilā dhik'ri l-lahi dhālika hudā l-lahi yahdī bihi man yashāu waman yuḍ'lili l-lahu famā lahu min hādi

أَفَمَن یَتَّقِی بِوَجۡهِهِۦ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۚ وَقِیلَ لِلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٢٤

How about the one who has to face the severe punishment on the Day of Resurrection? Wrong-doers [like that one] shall be told, "Taste what you earned." acwe. Kaththaba allatheena min qablihim faatahumu alAAathabu min haythu la yashAAuroon

afaman yattaqī biwajhihi sūa l-ʿadhābi yawma l-qiyāmati waqīla lilẓẓālimīna dhūqū mā kuntum taksibūn

كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ فَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَیۡثُ لَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٢٥

The peoples that lived before them denied the Truth. Then the punishment came upon them from where they knew not

kadhaba alladhīna min qablihim fa-atāhumu l-ʿadhābu min ḥaythu lā yashʿurūn

فَأَذَاقَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡخِزۡیَ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ أَكۡبَرُۚ لَوۡ كَانُوا۟ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٦

And Allah made them taste disgrace in the life of this world, and certainly the punishment of the Hereafter will be much more grievous. If only they knew

fa-adhāqahumu l-lahu l-khiz'ya fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā walaʿadhābu l-ākhirati akbaru law kānū yaʿlamūn

وَلَقَدۡ ضَرَبۡنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِی هَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلࣲ لَّعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٢٧

And We have certainly quoted for mankind from every kind of situations [they may face] in this Qurաn for them to remember and relate from

walaqad ḍarabnā lilnnāsi fī hādhā l-qur'āni min kulli mathalin laʿallahum yatadhakkarūn

قُرۡءَانًا عَرَبِیًّا غَیۡرَ ذِی عِوَجࣲ لَّعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَّقُونَ ۝٢٨

An Arabic Qurաn, without crookedness, for them to take heed from

qur'ānan ʿarabiyyan ghayra dhī ʿiwajin laʿallahum yattaqūn

ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلࣰا رَّجُلࣰا فِیهِ شُرَكَاۤءُ مُتَشَـٰكِسُونَ وَرَجُلࣰا سَلَمࣰا لِّرَجُلٍ هَلۡ یَسۡتَوِیَانِ مَثَلًاۚ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٩

Allah quotes an example: a man shared by several contending masters, and another submitting to one man. Can the two be alike? All praise to Allah! But most of them know not

ḍaraba l-lahu mathalan rajulan fīhi shurakāu mutashākisūna warajulan salaman lirajulin hal yastawiyāni mathalan l-ḥamdu lillahi bal aktharuhum lā yaʿlamūn

إِنَّكَ مَیِّتࣱ وَإِنَّهُم مَّیِّتُونَ ۝٣٠

You (Prophet Muhammad) are mortal and so are they

innaka mayyitun wa-innahum mayyitūn

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ عِندَ رَبِّكُمۡ تَخۡتَصِمُونَ ۝٣١

Then [after death] all of you will be contesting before your Lord on the Day of Resurrection

thumma innakum yawma l-qiyāmati ʿinda rabbikum takhtaṣimūn

4 Rejectors will be abased

۞ فَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّن كَذَبَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلصِّدۡقِ إِذۡ جَاۤءَهُۥۤۚ أَلَیۡسَ فِی جَهَنَّمَ مَثۡوࣰى لِّلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٣٢

Who, then, can be more wicked than he who lied against Allah and denied the Truth when it came to him? Is not in Hell an abode for those who suppress the Truth

faman aẓlamu mimman kadhaba ʿalā l-lahi wakadhaba bil-ṣid'qi idh jāahu alaysa fī jahannama mathwan lil'kāfirīn

وَٱلَّذِی جَاۤءَ بِٱلصِّدۡقِ وَصَدَّقَ بِهِۦۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَ ۝٣٣

And one who came with the Truth, and one who confirmed it as true — such are the ones who practice piety

wa-alladhī jāa bil-ṣid'qi waṣaddaqa bihi ulāika humu l-mutaqūn

لَهُم مَّا یَشَاۤءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ جَزَاۤءُ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝٣٤

For them there shall be, with their Lord, whatever they desire. That is the reward for good people

lahum mā yashāūna ʿinda rabbihim dhālika jazāu l-muḥ'sinīn

لِیُكَفِّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡ أَسۡوَأَ ٱلَّذِی عَمِلُوا۟ وَیَجۡزِیَهُمۡ أَجۡرَهُم بِأَحۡسَنِ ٱلَّذِی كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٣٥

[The reward of the good people is] such that Allah remits their bad deeds and compensates them well for their good deeds

liyukaffira l-lahu ʿanhum aswa-a alladhī ʿamilū wayajziyahum ajrahum bi-aḥsani alladhī kānū yaʿmalūn

أَلَیۡسَ ٱللَّهُ بِكَافٍ عَبۡدَهُۥۖ وَیُخَوِّفُونَكَ بِٱلَّذِینَ مِن دُونِهِۦۚ وَمَن یُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡ هَادࣲ ۝٣٦

Is Allah not sufficient for His subject? They frighten you of others besides Him. And there is none to guide the one whom Allah lets go astray

alaysa l-lahu bikāfin ʿabdahu wayukhawwifūnaka bi-alladhīna min dūnihi waman yuḍ'lili l-lahu famā lahu min hādi

وَمَن یَهۡدِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن مُّضِلٍّۗ أَلَیۡسَ ٱللَّهُ بِعَزِیزࣲ ذِی ٱنتِقَامࣲ ۝٣٧

And one whom Allah guides, none can lead that one astray. Is not Allah Omnipotent, with power to give a fitting retribution

waman yahdi l-lahu famā lahu min muḍillin alaysa l-lahu biʿazīzin dhī intiqāmi

وَلَىِٕن سَأَلۡتَهُم مَّنۡ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ لَیَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُۚ قُلۡ أَفَرَءَیۡتُم مَّا تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِنۡ أَرَادَنِیَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ هَلۡ هُنَّ كَـٰشِفَـٰتُ ضُرِّهِۦۤ أَوۡ أَرَادَنِی بِرَحۡمَةٍ هَلۡ هُنَّ مُمۡسِكَـٰتُ رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ قُلۡ حَسۡبِیَ ٱللَّهُۖ عَلَیۡهِ یَتَوَكَّلُ ٱلۡمُتَوَكِّلُونَ ۝٣٨

And if you ask them `Who created the heavens and the earth?' they will surely reply `Allah.' Tell them, `What do you think, then, of those whom you pray to instead of Allah? If Allah should will to harm me, will those remove the harm inflicted by Him? Or if Allah should will to be merciful to me, will they be able to wit old His Mercy from me?' Say, "Allah is sufficient for me. In Him should put their trust — all those who do trust!"

wala-in sa-altahum man khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa layaqūlunna l-lahu qul afara-aytum mā tadʿūna min dūni l-lahi in arādaniya l-lahu biḍurrin hal hunna kāshifātu ḍurrihi aw arādanī biraḥmatin hal hunna mum'sikātu raḥmatihi qul ḥasbiya l-lahu ʿalayhi yatawakkalu l-mutawakilūn

قُلۡ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡمَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِكُمۡ إِنِّی عَـٰمِلࣱۖ فَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٩

Tell them, "O my people! Do what you do, as hard as you may, I too will do what I should. You shall soon know."

qul yāqawmi iʿ'malū ʿalā makānatikum innī ʿāmilun fasawfa taʿlamūn

مَن یَأۡتِیهِ عَذَابࣱ یُخۡزِیهِ وَیَحِلُّ عَلَیۡهِ عَذَابࣱ مُّقِیمٌ ۝٤٠

"[You shall soon know] who suffers a disgracing punishment and whom the everlasting punishment is due upon."

man yatīhi ʿadhābun yukh'zīhi wayaḥillu ʿalayhi ʿadhābun muqīmu

إِنَّاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡكَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ لِلنَّاسِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ فَمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ فَلِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا یَضِلُّ عَلَیۡهَاۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتَ عَلَیۡهِم بِوَكِیلٍ ۝٤١

We have sent down the Book upon you [Prophet Muhammad] with the Truth for all mankind. So one who takes guidance therefrom, one does so to one's own benefit. And one, who goes astray therefrom, shall hurt only one's own self by straying. You are not a manager of their affairs

innā anzalnā ʿalayka l-kitāba lilnnāsi bil-ḥaqi famani ih'tadā falinafsihi waman ḍalla fa-innamā yaḍillu ʿalayhā wamā anta ʿalayhim biwakīli

5 Punishment cannot be averted

ٱللَّهُ یَتَوَفَّى ٱلۡأَنفُسَ حِینَ مَوۡتِهَا وَٱلَّتِی لَمۡ تَمُتۡ فِی مَنَامِهَاۖ فَیُمۡسِكُ ٱلَّتِی قَضَىٰ عَلَیۡهَا ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَیُرۡسِلُ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰۤ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلࣲ مُّسَمًّىۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝٤٢

It is Allah Who takes away the souls of people at their death; and in their sleep, of those that have not died. Then He retains the souls of those against whom He had decreed death and returns those of others till an appointed time. In that indeed are signs for people who reflect

al-lahu yatawaffā l-anfusa ḥīna mawtihā wa-allatī lam tamut fī manāmihā fayum'siku allatī qaḍā ʿalayhā l-mawta wayur'silu l-ukh'rā ilā ajalin musamman inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yatafakkarūn

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ شُفَعَاۤءَۚ قُلۡ أَوَ لَوۡ كَانُوا۟ لَا یَمۡلِكُونَ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٤٣

Or have they taken intercessors other than Allah? Say, "Can they intercede even if they have no power and do not even understand?"

ami ittakhadhū min dūni l-lahi shufaʿāa qul awalaw kānū lā yamlikūna shayan walā yaʿqilūn

قُل لِّلَّهِ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُ جَمِیعࣰاۖ لَّهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ ثُمَّ إِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٤٤

Say, "All intercession lies with Allah. His is the absolute sovereignty over the heavens and the earth. And to Him will all of you be returned."

qul lillahi l-shafāʿatu jamīʿan lahu mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi thumma ilayhi tur'jaʿūn

وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَحۡدَهُ ٱشۡمَأَزَّتۡ قُلُوبُ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۖ وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ إِذَا هُمۡ یَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ ۝٤٥

And when Allah alone is mentioned, minds of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink away with aversion. And when others are mentioned besides Allah, they are filled with joy

wa-idhā dhukira l-lahu waḥdahu ish'ma-azzat qulūbu alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati wa-idhā dhukira alladhīna min dūnihi idhā hum yastabshirūn

قُلِ ٱللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ عَـٰلِمَ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ أَنتَ تَحۡكُمُ بَیۡنَ عِبَادِكَ فِی مَا كَانُوا۟ فِیهِ یَخۡتَلِفُونَ ۝٤٦

Say, "O Allah, the Maker of the heavens and the earth, the Knower of the unseen and the seen! You are the One to judge among Your subjects in matters they have been differing in."

quli l-lahuma fāṭira l-samāwāti wal-arḍi ʿālima l-ghaybi wal-shahādati anta taḥkumu bayna ʿibādika fī mā kānū fīhi yakhtalifūn

وَلَوۡ أَنَّ لِلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِیعࣰا وَمِثۡلَهُۥ مَعَهُۥ لَٱفۡتَدَوۡا۟ بِهِۦ مِن سُوۤءِ ٱلۡعَذَابِ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۚ وَبَدَا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ یَكُونُوا۟ یَحۡتَسِبُونَ ۝٤٧

Had the wrong-doers at their disposal the treasures of the earth in their entirety and as much besides, they would gladly offer it on the Day of Resurrection to redeem themselves from the harrowing punishment. For, there will appear to them from Allah something (sinister) they had never even imagined

walaw anna lilladhīna ẓalamū mā fī l-arḍi jamīʿan wamith'lahu maʿahu la-if'tadaw bihi min sūi l-ʿadhābi yawma l-qiyāmati wabadā lahum mina l-lahi mā lam yakūnū yaḥtasibūn

وَبَدَا لَهُمۡ سَیِّءَاتُ مَا كَسَبُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٤٨

The evil that they earn will be apparent to them, and that which they scoffed at shall besiege them

wabadā lahum sayyiātu mā kasabū waḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihi yastahziūn

فَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ ضُرࣱّ دَعَانَا ثُمَّ إِذَا خَوَّلۡنَـٰهُ نِعۡمَةࣰ مِّنَّا قَالَ إِنَّمَاۤ أُوتِیتُهُۥ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمِۭۚ بَلۡ هِیَ فِتۡنَةࣱ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٤٩

When an affliction affects man, he prays to Us. Then when We bestow upon him a favour from Us, he says, "I have been given this because of my knowledge." Nay! This favour is a test; but most of them know not

fa-idhā massa l-insāna ḍurrun daʿānā thumma idhā khawwalnāhu niʿ'matan minnā qāla innamā ūtītuhu ʿalā ʿil'min bal hiya fit'natun walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn

قَدۡ قَالَهَا ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ فَمَاۤ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٥٠

The people before them had said the same, but their earnings were of no avail to them

qad qālahā alladhīna min qablihim famā aghnā ʿanhum mā kānū yaksibūn

فَأَصَابَهُمۡ سَیِّءَاتُ مَا كَسَبُوا۟ۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنۡ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ سَیُصِیبُهُمۡ سَیِّءَاتُ مَا كَسَبُوا۟ وَمَا هُم بِمُعۡجِزِینَ ۝٥١

And the evil they earned hit them. The wrongdoers among these now will also be hit by the evil they earn. They will not escape

fa-aṣābahum sayyiātu mā kasabū wa-alladhīna ẓalamū min hāulāi sayuṣībuhum sayyiātu mā kasabū wamā hum bimuʿ'jizīn

أَوَ لَمۡ یَعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَقۡدِرُۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٢

Do they not know that Allah gives the provision in ample measure to whom He wills and restricts it to whom He wills? Therein are signs for those that believe

awalam yaʿlamū anna l-laha yabsuṭu l-riz'qa liman yashāu wayaqdiru inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yu'minūn

6 Divine Mercy

۞ قُلۡ یَـٰعِبَادِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَسۡرَفُوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ لَا تَقۡنَطُوا۟ مِن رَّحۡمَةِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَغۡفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ جَمِیعًاۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝٥٣

Say, "O my fellow subjects of Allah — those who have committed excesses against themselves! Despair not of Allah's Mercy. Allah does indeed forgive all sins; He is indeed the One forgiving, merciful."

qul yāʿibādiya alladhīna asrafū ʿalā anfusihim lā taqnaṭū min raḥmati l-lahi inna l-laha yaghfiru l-dhunūba jamīʿan innahu huwa l-ghafūru l-raḥīm

وَأَنِیبُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمۡ وَأَسۡلِمُوا۟ لَهُۥ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن یَأۡتِیَكُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ ثُمَّ لَا تُنصَرُونَ ۝٥٤

"Turn to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes to you. Thereafter, you will receive no help."

wa-anībū ilā rabbikum wa-aslimū lahu min qabli an yatiyakumu l-ʿadhābu thumma lā tunṣarūn

وَٱتَّبِعُوۤا۟ أَحۡسَنَ مَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُم مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن یَأۡتِیَكُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ بَغۡتَةࣰ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٥٥

"Follow the good admonition that has been sent down for you from your Lord before the punishment catches you unawares."

wa-ittabiʿū aḥsana mā unzila ilaykum min rabbikum min qabli an yatiyakumu l-ʿadhābu baghtatan wa-antum lā tashʿurūn

أَن تَقُولَ نَفۡسࣱ یَـٰحَسۡرَتَىٰ عَلَىٰ مَا فَرَّطتُ فِی جَنۢبِ ٱللَّهِ وَإِن كُنتُ لَمِنَ ٱلسَّـٰخِرِینَ ۝٥٦

Lest anyone should say, "Oh! I am so sorry for neglecting my duty towards Allah and for being among those that scoffed."

an taqūla nafsun yāḥasratā ʿalā mā farraṭtu fī janbi l-lahi wa-in kuntu lamina l-sākhirīn

أَوۡ تَقُولَ لَوۡ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هَدَىٰنِی لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٥٧

Or should anyone say, "If only Allah had guided me, I should have been among the pious."

aw taqūla law anna l-laha hadānī lakuntu mina l-mutaqīn

أَوۡ تَقُولَ حِینَ تَرَى ٱلۡعَذَابَ لَوۡ أَنَّ لِی كَرَّةࣰ فَأَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝٥٨

Or should anyone say on seeing the (gravity of the) punishment, "O that I could have another chance, and then be among those who do good deeds!"

aw taqūla ḥīna tarā l-ʿadhāba law anna lī karratan fa-akūna mina l-muḥ'sinīn

بَلَىٰ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡكَ ءَایَـٰتِی فَكَذَّبۡتَ بِهَا وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرۡتَ وَكُنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٥٩

Yes (you had your chances)! My signs did come to you but you rejected them. And you behaved arrogantly and were among those who suppressed the Truth

balā qad jāatka āyātī fakadhabta bihā wa-is'takbarta wakunta mina l-kāfirīn

وَیَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ تَرَى ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَبُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وُجُوهُهُم مُّسۡوَدَّةٌۚ أَلَیۡسَ فِی جَهَنَّمَ مَثۡوࣰى لِّلۡمُتَكَبِّرِینَ ۝٦٠

And on the Day of Resurrection you shall see the faces, of those who had lied against Allah, blackened! Is not the (proper) abode, for arrogant people, in Hell

wayawma l-qiyāmati tarā alladhīna kadhabū ʿalā l-lahi wujūhuhum mus'waddatun alaysa fī jahannama mathwan lil'mutakabbirīn

وَیُنَجِّی ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّقَوۡا۟ بِمَفَازَتِهِمۡ لَا یَمَسُّهُمُ ٱلسُّوۤءُ وَلَا هُمۡ یَحۡزَنُونَ ۝٦١

And Allah will save the Allah-fearing on account of their success in resisting the evil. No harm shall touch them nor shall they grieve

wayunajjī l-lahu alladhīna ittaqaw bimafāzatihim lā yamassuhumu l-sūu walā hum yaḥzanūn

ٱللَّهُ خَـٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَكِیلࣱ ۝٦٢

Allah is the Creator of everything. And He is the Manager of affairs for everything.

al-lahu khāliqu kulli shayin wahuwa ʿalā kulli shayin wakīlu

لَّهُۥ مَقَالِیدُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٦٣

He (Allah) has the keys of the heavens and the earth. And those who suppress Allahճ signs — they will be the doomed ones

lahu maqālīdu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wa-alladhīna kafarū biāyāti l-lahi ulāika humu l-khāsirūn

7 The Final Judgment

قُلۡ أَفَغَیۡرَ ٱللَّهِ تَأۡمُرُوۤنِّیۤ أَعۡبُدُ أَیُّهَا ٱلۡجَـٰهِلُونَ ۝٦٤

Say, "O you ignorant people! Do you tell me to worship anyone other than Allah!?"

qul afaghayra l-lahi tamurūnnī aʿbudu ayyuhā l-jāhilūn

وَلَقَدۡ أُوحِیَ إِلَیۡكَ وَإِلَى ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِكَ لَىِٕنۡ أَشۡرَكۡتَ لَیَحۡبَطَنَّ عَمَلُكَ وَلَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٦٥

And, most certainly, it was revealed to you and to all Prophets before you that if you worship anyone besides Allah, your deeds will certainly be worthless and you will certainly be among the doomed ones

walaqad ūḥiya ilayka wa-ilā alladhīna min qablika la-in ashrakta layaḥbaṭanna ʿamaluka walatakūnanna mina l-khāsirīn

بَلِ ٱللَّهَ فَٱعۡبُدۡ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ۝٦٦

So then worship Allah alone and be among those that are grateful

bali l-laha fa-uʿ'bud wakun mina l-shākirīn

وَمَا قَدَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدۡرِهِۦ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ جَمِیعࣰا قَبۡضَتُهُۥ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتُ مَطۡوِیَّـٰتُۢ بِیَمِینِهِۦۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٦٧

And they have not given Allah the Honour that is due to Him! On the Day of Resurrection the entire earth will be in His grasp, and the heavens shall be folded up in His Right Hand. Glorified and Exalted is He from all that they worship besides Him.

wamā qadarū l-laha ḥaqqa qadrihi wal-arḍu jamīʿan qabḍatuhu yawma l-qiyāmati wal-samāwātu maṭwiyyātun biyamīnihi sub'ḥānahu wataʿālā ʿammā yush'rikūn

وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَصَعِقَ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِلَّا مَن شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُۖ ثُمَّ نُفِخَ فِیهِ أُخۡرَىٰ فَإِذَا هُمۡ قِیَامࣱ یَنظُرُونَ ۝٦٨

And the Trumpet shall be blown and all who are in the heavens and the earth shall fall down dead save those whom Allah wills. Thereafter the Trumpet shall be blown again, and then all of them will be up on their feet, looking all around

wanufikha fī l-ṣūri faṣaʿiqa man fī l-samāwāti waman fī l-arḍi illā man shāa l-lahu thumma nufikha fīhi ukh'rā fa-idhā hum qiyāmun yanẓurūn

وَأَشۡرَقَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِنُورِ رَبِّهَا وَوُضِعَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبُ وَجِا۟یۤءَ بِٱلنَّبِیِّـۧنَ وَٱلشُّهَدَاۤءِ وَقُضِیَ بَیۡنَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٩

And the earth shall shine with the light of its Lord, the Book (of deeds) shall be produced, the Prophets and all witnesses shall be brought, cases among them shall be justly decided, and they shall not be wronged

wa-ashraqati l-arḍu binūri rabbihā wawuḍiʿa l-kitābu wajīa bil-nabiyīna wal-shuhadāi waquḍiya baynahum bil-ḥaqi wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

وَوُفِّیَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّا عَمِلَتۡ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَفۡعَلُونَ ۝٧٠

And everyone shall be paid in full for all that he/she did. And Allah knows what they do

wawuffiyat kullu nafsin mā ʿamilat wahuwa aʿlamu bimā yafʿalūn

8 Each Party meets its Desert

وَسِیقَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ زُمَرًاۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءُوهَا فُتِحَتۡ أَبۡوَ ٰبُهَا وَقَالَ لَهُمۡ خَزَنَتُهَاۤ أَلَمۡ یَأۡتِكُمۡ رُسُلࣱ مِّنكُمۡ یَتۡلُونَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّكُمۡ وَیُنذِرُونَكُمۡ لِقَاۤءَ یَوۡمِكُمۡ هَـٰذَاۚ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَلَـٰكِنۡ حَقَّتۡ كَلِمَةُ ٱلۡعَذَابِ عَلَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٧١

And the suppressors of Truth shall be led in groups towards Hell until when they arrive there, its gates shall be opened. And its keepers shall ask them, "Did Messengers from among yourselves not come to you, reciting Verses/signs of your Lord to you and warning you of your meeting on this Day?" They will say, "Yes, they did come!" But the sentence of punishment was bound to be executed against the suppressors of Truth

wasīqa alladhīna kafarū ilā jahannama zumaran ḥattā idhā jāūhā futiḥat abwābuhā waqāla lahum khazanatuhā alam yatikum rusulun minkum yatlūna ʿalaykum āyāti rabbikum wayundhirūnakum liqāa yawmikum hādhā qālū balā walākin ḥaqqat kalimatu l-ʿadhābi ʿalā l-kāfirīn

قِیلَ ٱدۡخُلُوۤا۟ أَبۡوَ ٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۖ فَبِئۡسَ مَثۡوَى ٱلۡمُتَكَبِّرِینَ ۝٧٢

They will be told, "Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein!" Evil then is the abode of those that are arrogant

qīla ud'khulū abwāba jahannama khālidīna fīhā fabi'sa mathwā l-mutakabirīn

وَسِیقَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّقَوۡا۟ رَبَّهُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡجَنَّةِ زُمَرًاۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءُوهَا وَفُتِحَتۡ أَبۡوَ ٰبُهَا وَقَالَ لَهُمۡ خَزَنَتُهَا سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡ طِبۡتُمۡ فَٱدۡخُلُوهَا خَـٰلِدِینَ ۝٧٣

And those who feared their Lord shall be led in groups towards Paradise until when they arrive there, its gates shall be opened. And its keepers shall say to them, "Peace upon you; you did well! So enter it (Paradise) to abide eternally therein."

wasīqa alladhīna ittaqaw rabbahum ilā l-janati zumaran ḥattā idhā jāūhā wafutiḥat abwābuhā waqāla lahum khazanatuhā salāmun ʿalaykum ṭib'tum fa-ud'khulūhā khālidīn

وَقَالُوا۟ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی صَدَقَنَا وَعۡدَهُۥ وَأَوۡرَثَنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ نَتَبَوَّأُ مِنَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ حَیۡثُ نَشَاۤءُۖ فَنِعۡمَ أَجۡرُ ٱلۡعَـٰمِلِینَ ۝٧٤

And they will say, "The praise is for Allah Who has made His promise to us come true, and Who gave us the earth to inherit. We may now dwell in Paradise wherever we please." Excellent is the reward of those who did good deeds

waqālū l-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī ṣadaqanā waʿdahu wa-awrathanā l-arḍa natabawwa-u mina l-janati ḥaythu nashāu faniʿ'ma ajru l-ʿāmilīn

وَتَرَى ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ حَاۤفِّینَ مِنۡ حَوۡلِ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ یُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّهِمۡۚ وَقُضِیَ بَیۡنَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ وَقِیلَ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٧٥

And you shall see the angels thronging around the Throne, glorifying their Lord with His praise. Cases among them will be justly decided. And it will be said, "The praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds."

watarā l-malāikata ḥāffīna min ḥawli l-ʿarshi yusabbiḥūna biḥamdi rabbihim waquḍiya baynahum bil-ḥaqi waqīla l-ḥamdu lillahi rabbi l-ʿālamīn
