Exile, Banishment — Dr Munir Munshey Translation

هُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَخۡرَجَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ مِن دِیَـٰرِهِمۡ لِأَوَّلِ ٱلۡحَشۡرِۚ مَا ظَنَنتُمۡ أَن یَخۡرُجُوا۟ۖ وَظَنُّوۤا۟ أَنَّهُم مَّانِعَتُهُمۡ حُصُونُهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ فَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِنۡ حَیۡثُ لَمۡ یَحۡتَسِبُوا۟ۖ وَقَذَفَ فِی قُلُوبِهِمُ ٱلرُّعۡبَۚ یُخۡرِبُونَ بُیُوتَهُم بِأَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَأَیۡدِی ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ فَٱعۡتَبِرُوا۟ یَـٰۤأُو۟لِی ٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرِ ۝٢

Dr. Munir Munshey

It is He Who drove the disbelievers, the people of the book, from their homes at the very start of assembly (the siege against them). You never thought they would depart (without resistance). And they thought their strongholds would defend them against Allah. But Allah came upon them from where they least expected. He cast terror in their hearts, so they ruined their homes with their own hands, and the hands of the believers. So learn the lesson, Oh you, endowed with sights

huwa alladhī akhraja alladhīna kafarū min ahli l-kitābi min diyārihim li-awwali l-ḥashri mā ẓanantum an yakhrujū waẓannū annahum māniʿatuhum ḥuṣūnuhum mina l-lahi fa-atāhumu l-lahu min ḥaythu lam yaḥtasibū waqadhafa fī qulūbihimu l-ruʿ'ba yukh'ribūna buyūtahum bi-aydīhim wa-aydī l-mu'minīna fa-iʿ'tabirū yāulī l-abṣār

59:3

وَلَوۡلَاۤ أَن كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡجَلَاۤءَ لَعَذَّبَهُمۡ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَاۖ وَلَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ عَذَابُ ٱلنَّارِ ۝٣

Dr. Munir Munshey

Had Allah not decreed (the life of) exile for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world. The punishment by fire is (in store) for them in the afterlife

walawlā an kataba l-lahu ʿalayhimu l-jalāa laʿadhabahum fī l-dun'yā walahum fī l-ākhirati ʿadhābu l-nār

59:4

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ شَاۤقُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۖ وَمَن یُشَاۤقِّ ٱللَّهَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٤

Dr. Munir Munshey

This is so, because they acted in defiance of Allah and His messenger. Whoever goes against (the will of) Allah (should know that) Allah is indeed very Severe in reprisal

dhālika bi-annahum shāqqū l-laha warasūlahu waman yushāqqi l-laha fa-inna l-laha shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

59:5

مَا قَطَعۡتُم مِّن لِّینَةٍ أَوۡ تَرَكۡتُمُوهَا قَاۤىِٕمَةً عَلَىٰۤ أُصُولِهَا فَبِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِیُخۡزِیَ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٥

Dr. Munir Munshey

It was with Allah´s permission that you cut down (some of) the date palm trees and left (others) standing on their stems, in order that He might disgrace the evildoers

mā qaṭaʿtum min līnatin aw taraktumūhā qāimatan ʿalā uṣūlihā fabi-idh'ni l-lahi waliyukh'ziya l-fāsiqīn

59:6

وَمَاۤ أَفَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ مِنۡهُمۡ فَمَاۤ أَوۡجَفۡتُمۡ عَلَیۡهِ مِنۡ خَیۡلࣲ وَلَا رِكَابࣲ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُسَلِّطُ رُسُلَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَن یَشَاۤءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣱ ۝٦

Dr. Munir Munshey

Allah granted their possessions to His messenger, as spoils (of war). You did not throw your horses and your camels (in battle) against them. Allah gives dominance to His messenger over whatever He pleases. Allah is capable of (doing) everything

wamā afāa l-lahu ʿalā rasūlihi min'hum famā awjaftum ʿalayhi min khaylin walā rikābin walākinna l-laha yusalliṭu rusulahu ʿalā man yashāu wal-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

59:7

مَّاۤ أَفَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ فَلِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِی ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَٱلۡیَتَـٰمَىٰ وَٱلۡمَسَـٰكِینِ وَٱبۡنِ ٱلسَّبِیلِ كَیۡ لَا یَكُونَ دُولَةَۢ بَیۡنَ ٱلۡأَغۡنِیَاۤءِ مِنكُمۡۚ وَمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰكُمُ ٱلرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَىٰكُمۡ عَنۡهُ فَٱنتَهُوا۟ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٧

Dr. Munir Munshey

The booty Allah granted to His messenger from the people of the town is for (the sake of) Allah, His messenger, the relatives (of the messenger), the orphans, the poor (and the needy), and the wayfarers; so that wealth may not get (hoarded) amongst your well to do. Accept what the Messenger grants you and stay away from what he forbids! Fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is very Severe in reprisal

mā afāa l-lahu ʿalā rasūlihi min ahli l-qurā falillahi walilrrasūli walidhī l-qur'bā wal-yatāmā wal-masākīni wa-ib'ni l-sabīli kay lā yakūna dūlatan bayna l-aghniyāi minkum wamā ātākumu l-rasūlu fakhudhūhu wamā nahākum ʿanhu fa-intahū wa-ittaqū l-laha inna l-laha shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

59:8

لِلۡفُقَرَاۤءِ ٱلۡمُهَـٰجِرِینَ ٱلَّذِینَ أُخۡرِجُوا۟ مِن دِیَـٰرِهِمۡ وَأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ یَبۡتَغُونَ فَضۡلࣰا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضۡوَ ٰنࣰا وَیَنصُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۤۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلصَّـٰدِقُونَ ۝٨

Dr. Munir Munshey

(The booties are) for the poor immigrants who were driven out of their homes and (deprived of) their belongings, those who seek the bounties of Allah and His pleasures. They help (the cause of) Allah and His messenger! Such are truly the faithful ones

lil'fuqarāi l-muhājirīna alladhīna ukh'rijū min diyārihim wa-amwālihim yabtaghūna faḍlan mina l-lahi wariḍ'wānan wayanṣurūna l-laha warasūlahu ulāika humu l-ṣādiqūn

59:9

وَٱلَّذِینَ تَبَوَّءُو ٱلدَّارَ وَٱلۡإِیمَـٰنَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ یُحِبُّونَ مَنۡ هَاجَرَ إِلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَا یَجِدُونَ فِی صُدُورِهِمۡ حَاجَةࣰ مِّمَّاۤ أُوتُوا۟ وَیُؤۡثِرُونَ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَلَوۡ كَانَ بِهِمۡ خَصَاصَةࣱۚ وَمَن یُوقَ شُحَّ نَفۡسِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٩

Dr. Munir Munshey

And the booties are for those who had houses (in the city) and had accepted the faith before others. (Because) they really love the immigrants who were driven out of their homes and came to them (for help). They do not entertain any greed in their hearts for what others have been given. They prefer others over themselves, even though they are poor. Those who escape the greed within their own hearts, are really the successful ones

wa-alladhīna tabawwaū l-dāra wal-īmāna min qablihim yuḥibbūna man hājara ilayhim walā yajidūna fī ṣudūrihim ḥājatan mimmā ūtū wayu'thirūna ʿalā anfusihim walaw kāna bihim khaṣāṣatun waman yūqa shuḥḥa nafsihi fa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

59:10

وَٱلَّذِینَ جَاۤءُو مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَلِإِخۡوَ ٰنِنَا ٱلَّذِینَ سَبَقُونَا بِٱلۡإِیمَـٰنِ وَلَا تَجۡعَلۡ فِی قُلُوبِنَا غِلࣰّا لِّلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ رَبَّنَاۤ إِنَّكَ رَءُوفࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ۝١٠

Dr. Munir Munshey

Those who followed them (in faith) say, "Our Lord! Grant us forgiveness and also (grant forgiveness) to our brothers who preceded us in faith. Do not put hatred in our hearts for the believers. Our Lord, you are certainly the most Forgiving and the most Kind!"

wa-alladhīna jāū min baʿdihim yaqūlūna rabbanā igh'fir lanā wali-ikh'wāninā alladhīna sabaqūnā bil-īmāni walā tajʿal fī qulūbinā ghillan lilladhīna āmanū rabbanā innaka raūfun raḥīmu

59:11

۞ أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِینَ نَافَقُوا۟ یَقُولُونَ لِإِخۡوَ ٰنِهِمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ لَىِٕنۡ أُخۡرِجۡتُمۡ لَنَخۡرُجَنَّ مَعَكُمۡ وَلَا نُطِیعُ فِیكُمۡ أَحَدًا أَبَدࣰا وَإِن قُوتِلۡتُمۡ لَنَنصُرَنَّكُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ یَشۡهَدُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝١١

Dr. Munir Munshey

Did you not observe the hypocrites? They say to their disbelieving friends, the people of the scriptures, "If you are banished (from town), then we too shall depart with you. We will never listen to anyone against you. We will come to your aid if war is waged upon you." Allah bears witness that they are surely the liars

alam tara ilā alladhīna nāfaqū yaqūlūna li-ikh'wānihimu alladhīna kafarū min ahli l-kitābi la-in ukh'rij'tum lanakhrujanna maʿakum walā nuṭīʿu fīkum aḥadan abadan wa-in qūtil'tum lananṣurannakum wal-lahu yashhadu innahum lakādhibūn

59:12

لَىِٕنۡ أُخۡرِجُوا۟ لَا یَخۡرُجُونَ مَعَهُمۡ وَلَىِٕن قُوتِلُوا۟ لَا یَنصُرُونَهُمۡ وَلَىِٕن نَّصَرُوهُمۡ لَیُوَلُّنَّ ٱلۡأَدۡبَـٰرَ ثُمَّ لَا یُنصَرُونَ ۝١٢

Dr. Munir Munshey

Very definitely! If they, (the people of the book), are banished, the hypocrites will not depart with them. If they, (the people of the book), are attacked, the hypocrites will not come to their aid. They (the hypocrites) will turn their backs (and desert their allies), if they (at all) come to their aid. No help shall they receive, then

la-in ukh'rijū lā yakhrujūna maʿahum wala-in qūtilū lā yanṣurūnahum wala-in naṣarūhum layuwallunna l-adbāra thumma lā yunṣarūn

59:13

لَأَنتُمۡ أَشَدُّ رَهۡبَةࣰ فِی صُدُورِهِم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ لَّا یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝١٣

Dr. Munir Munshey

Indeed, in their hearts they fear you much more than they fear Allah. This is so because they are a nation that does not comprehend

la-antum ashaddu rahbatan fī ṣudūrihim mina l-lahi dhālika bi-annahum qawmun lā yafqahūn

59:14

لَا یُقَـٰتِلُونَكُمۡ جَمِیعًا إِلَّا فِی قُرࣰى مُّحَصَّنَةٍ أَوۡ مِن وَرَاۤءِ جُدُرِۭۚ بَأۡسُهُم بَیۡنَهُمۡ شَدِیدࣱۚ تَحۡسَبُهُمۡ جَمِیعࣰا وَقُلُوبُهُمۡ شَتَّىٰۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ لَّا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٤

Dr. Munir Munshey

They will not unite to fight you as a single force, except in fortified villages or from behind walls. Their enmity and aversion for each other is intense. You consider them united, but their hearts are divided! This is so because they are a nation that does not understand

lā yuqātilūnakum jamīʿan illā fī quran muḥaṣṣanatin aw min warāi judurin basuhum baynahum shadīdun taḥsabuhum jamīʿan waqulūbuhum shattā dhālika bi-annahum qawmun lā yaʿqilūn

59:15

كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ قَرِیبࣰاۖ ذَاقُوا۟ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهِمۡ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝١٥

Dr. Munir Munshey

They are (exactly) like their immediate predecessors who tasted the evil result of their conduct. A painful punishment is (in store) for them

kamathali alladhīna min qablihim qarīban dhāqū wabāla amrihim walahum ʿadhābun alīmu

59:16

كَمَثَلِ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ إِذۡ قَالَ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ ٱكۡفُرۡ فَلَمَّا كَفَرَ قَالَ إِنِّی بَرِیۤءࣱ مِّنكَ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٦

Dr. Munir Munshey

(The hypocrites are) like Shaitan! He suggests to man, "Refute the truth! (be ungrateful)!" But as soon as man denies the truth, (Shaitan) says, "I am absolved of your sins! Indeed, I fear Allah, the Lord of the universe."

kamathali l-shayṭāni idh qāla lil'insāni uk'fur falammā kafara qāla innī barīon minka innī akhāfu l-laha rabba l-ʿālamīn

59:17

فَكَانَ عَـٰقِبَتَهُمَاۤ أَنَّهُمَا فِی ٱلنَّارِ خَـٰلِدَیۡنِ فِیهَاۚ وَذَ ٰلِكَ جَزَ ٰۤؤُا۟ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٧

Dr. Munir Munshey

The final outcome would be: both of them _ (Shaitan the enticer, and the man accepting his suggestion) _ would be (thrown) in the fire. Both would live there forever! And that is the befitting treatment for the evildoers

fakāna ʿāqibatahumā annahumā fī l-nāri khālidayni fīhā wadhālika jazāu l-ẓālimīn

59:18

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلۡتَنظُرۡ نَفۡسࣱ مَّا قَدَّمَتۡ لِغَدࣲۖ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِیرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٨

Dr. Munir Munshey

Oh you who believe, fear Allah! Each one should take stock! What (kind of deeds) has he sent forth for tomorrow, (the Day of Judgment)? Fear Allah! Indeed, He is well Aware of what you do

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū ittaqū l-laha waltanẓur nafsun mā qaddamat lighadin wa-ittaqū l-laha inna l-laha khabīrun bimā taʿmalūn

59:19

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِینَ نَسُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَأَنسَىٰهُمۡ أَنفُسَهُمۡۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقُونَ ۝١٩

Dr. Munir Munshey

Do not be like those who forgot Allah, and (so) He made them forget their own selves. Such indeed are the disobedient ones

walā takūnū ka-alladhīna nasū l-laha fa-ansāhum anfusahum ulāika humu l-fāsiqūn

59:20

لَا یَسۡتَوِیۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۚ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ هُمُ ٱلۡفَاۤىِٕزُونَ ۝٢٠

Dr. Munir Munshey

The companions of fire and the dwellers of paradise are not equal. It is the dwellers of paradise, who are certainly the successful ones

lā yastawī aṣḥābu l-nāri wa-aṣḥābu l-janati aṣḥābu l-janati humu l-fāizūn

59:21

لَوۡ أَنزَلۡنَا هَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلࣲ لَّرَأَیۡتَهُۥ خَـٰشِعࣰا مُّتَصَدِّعࣰا مِّنۡ خَشۡیَةِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَتِلۡكَ ٱلۡأَمۡثَـٰلُ نَضۡرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝٢١

Dr. Munir Munshey

Had We sent this Qur´an upon a mountain, you would have surely seen it humbled _ burst asunder and trembling with the fear of Allah. These are (but) examples We quote for (the benefit of) mankind. Perhaps they would ponder

law anzalnā hādhā l-qur'āna ʿalā jabalin lara-aytahu khāshiʿan mutaṣaddiʿan min khashyati l-lahi watil'ka l-amthālu naḍribuhā lilnnāsi laʿallahum yatafakkarūn

59:22

هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِۖ هُوَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝٢٢

Dr. Munir Munshey

He is Allah! There is no god except Him, the Knower of the unseen and the manifest! He is the most Beneficent and the most Merciful

huwa l-lahu alladhī lā ilāha illā huwa ʿālimu l-ghaybi wal-shahādati huwa l-raḥmānu l-raḥīm

59:23

هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلۡمَلِكُ ٱلۡقُدُّوسُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُ ٱلۡمُهَیۡمِنُ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡجَبَّارُ ٱلۡمُتَكَبِّرُۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٢٣

Dr. Munir Munshey

He is Allah! There is no god except Him, the King, the most Holy, the Grantor of peace, the Grantor of all security, the Majestic, the Compeller, and the ever Supreme! Exalted is Allah! Far above the partners they associate with Him

huwa l-lahu alladhī lā ilāha illā huwa l-maliku l-qudūsu l-salāmu l-mu'minu l-muhayminu l-ʿazīzu l-jabāru l-mutakabiru sub'ḥāna l-lahi ʿammā yush'rikūn

59:24

هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقُ ٱلۡبَارِئُ ٱلۡمُصَوِّرُۖ لَهُ ٱلۡأَسۡمَاۤءُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۚ یُسَبِّحُ لَهُۥ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٢٤

Dr. Munir Munshey

He is Allah, the Creator, the Ultimate Inventor, and the Grantor of shapes and forms. The best of all names belong to Him! Everything in the heavens and on earth chants His praises! He is the Almighty and the Wisest

huwa l-lahu l-khāliqu l-bāri-u l-muṣawiru lahu l-asmāu l-ḥus'nā yusabbiḥu lahu mā fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm
