Mutual Disillusion, Haggling, The Cheating — Yusuf Ali Orig 1938 Translation

Whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare the Praises and Glory of God: to Him belongs dominion, and to Him belongs praise: and He has power over all things

yusabbiḥu lillahi mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi lahu l-mul'ku walahu l-ḥamdu wahuwa ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

64:2

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُمۡ فَمِنكُمۡ كَافِرࣱ وَمِنكُم مُّؤۡمِنࣱۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرٌ ۝٢

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

It is He Who has created you; and of you are some that are Unbelievers, and some that are Believers: and God sees well all that ye do

huwa alladhī khalaqakum faminkum kāfirun waminkum mu'minun wal-lahu bimā taʿmalūna baṣīru

64:3

خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَوَّرَكُمۡ فَأَحۡسَنَ صُوَرَكُمۡۖ وَإِلَیۡهِ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٣

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

He has created the heavens and the earth in just proportions, and has given you shape, and made your shapes beautiful: and to Him is the final Goal

khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqi waṣawwarakum fa-aḥsana ṣuwarakum wa-ilayhi l-maṣīr

64:4

یَعۡلَمُ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَیَعۡلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعۡلِنُونَۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ ۝٤

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

He knows what is in the heavens and on earth; and He knows what ye conceal and what ye reveal: yea, God knows well the (secrets) of (all) hearts

yaʿlamu mā fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wayaʿlamu mā tusirrūna wamā tuʿ'linūna wal-lahu ʿalīmun bidhāti l-ṣudūr

64:5

أَلَمۡ یَأۡتِكُمۡ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَبۡلُ فَذَاقُوا۟ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهِمۡ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٥

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

Has not the story reached you, of those who rejected Faith aforetime? So they tasted the evil result of their conduct; and they had a grievous Penalty

alam yatikum naba-u alladhīna kafarū min qablu fadhāqū wabāla amrihim walahum ʿadhābun alīmu

64:6

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُۥ كَانَت تَّأۡتِیهِمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَقَالُوۤا۟ أَبَشَرࣱ یَهۡدُونَنَا فَكَفَرُوا۟ وَتَوَلَّوا۟ۖ وَّٱسۡتَغۡنَى ٱللَّهُۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَنِیٌّ حَمِیدࣱ ۝٦

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

That was because there came to them apostles with Clear Signs, but they said: "Shall (mere) human beings direct us?" So they rejected (the Message) and turned away. But God can do without (them): and God is free of all needs, worthy of all pra ise

dhālika bi-annahu kānat tatīhim rusuluhum bil-bayināti faqālū abasharun yahdūnanā fakafarū watawallaw wa-is'taghnā l-lahu wal-lahu ghaniyyun ḥamīdu

64:7

زَعَمَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ أَن لَّن یُبۡعَثُوا۟ۚ قُلۡ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّی لَتُبۡعَثُنَّ ثُمَّ لَتُنَبَّؤُنَّ بِمَا عَمِلۡتُمۡۚ وَذَ ٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ یَسِیرࣱ ۝٧

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

The Unbelievers think that they will not be raised up (for Judgment). Say: "Yea, By my Lord, Ye shall surely be raised up: then shall ye be told (the truth) of all that ye did. And that is easy for God."

zaʿama alladhīna kafarū an lan yub'ʿathū qul balā warabbī latub'ʿathunna thumma latunabba-unna bimā ʿamil'tum wadhālika ʿalā l-lahi yasīru

64:8

فَءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَٱلنُّورِ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنزَلۡنَاۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِیرࣱ ۝٨

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

Believe, therefore, in God and His Apostle, and in the Light which we have sent down. And God is well acquainted with all that ye do

faāminū bil-lahi warasūlihi wal-nūri alladhī anzalnā wal-lahu bimā taʿmalūna khabīru

64:9

یَوۡمَ یَجۡمَعُكُمۡ لِیَوۡمِ ٱلۡجَمۡعِۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلتَّغَابُنِۗ وَمَن یُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ وَیَعۡمَلۡ صَـٰلِحࣰا یُكَفِّرۡ عَنۡهُ سَیِّءَاتِهِۦ وَیُدۡخِلۡهُ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَبَدࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٩

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

The Day that He assembles you (all) for a Day of Assembly,- that will be a Day of mutual loss and gain (among you), and those who believe in God and work righteousness,- He will remove from them their ills, and He will admit them to Gardens be neath which Rivers flow, to dwell therein for ever: that will be the Supreme Achievement

yawma yajmaʿukum liyawmi l-jamʿi dhālika yawmu l-taghābuni waman yu'min bil-lahi wayaʿmal ṣāliḥan yukaffir ʿanhu sayyiātihi wayud'khil'hu jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā abadan dhālika l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm

64:10

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝١٠

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

But those who reject Faith and treat Our Signs as falsehoods, they will be Companions of the Fire, to dwell therein for aye: and evil is that Goal

wa-alladhīna kafarū wakadhabū biāyātinā ulāika aṣḥābu l-nāri khālidīna fīhā wabi'sa l-maṣīr

64:11

مَاۤ أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِیبَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَمَن یُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ یَهۡدِ قَلۡبَهُۥۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١١

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

No kind of calamity can occur, except by the leave of God: and if any one believes in God, (God) guides his heart (aright): for God knows all things

mā aṣāba min muṣībatin illā bi-idh'ni l-lahi waman yu'min bil-lahi yahdi qalbahu wal-lahu bikulli shayin ʿalīmu

64:12

وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّیۡتُمۡ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَىٰ رَسُولِنَا ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝١٢

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

So obey God, and obey His Apostle: but if ye turn back, the duty of Our Apostle is but to proclaim (the Message) clearly and openly

wa-aṭīʿū l-laha wa-aṭīʿū l-rasūla fa-in tawallaytum fa-innamā ʿalā rasūlinā l-balāghu l-mubīn

64:13

ٱللَّهُ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٣

God! There is no god but He: and on God, therefore, let the Believers put their trust

al-lahu lā ilāha illā huwa waʿalā l-lahi falyatawakkali l-mu'minūn

64:14

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِنَّ مِنۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجِكُمۡ وَأَوۡلَـٰدِكُمۡ عَدُوࣰّا لَّكُمۡ فَٱحۡذَرُوهُمۡۚ وَإِن تَعۡفُوا۟ وَتَصۡفَحُوا۟ وَتَغۡفِرُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ۝١٤

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

O ye who believe! Truly, among your wives and your children are (some that are) enemies to yourselves: so beware of them! But if ye forgive and overlook, and cover up (their faults), verily God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū inna min azwājikum wa-awlādikum ʿaduwwan lakum fa-iḥ'dharūhum wa-in taʿfū wataṣfaḥū wataghfirū fa-inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

64:15

إِنَّمَاۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلُكُمۡ وَأَوۡلَـٰدُكُمۡ فِتۡنَةࣱۚ وَٱللَّهُ عِندَهُۥۤ أَجۡرٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝١٥

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

Your riches and your children may be but a trial: but in the Presence of God, is the highest, Reward

innamā amwālukum wa-awlādukum fit'natun wal-lahu ʿindahu ajrun ʿaẓīmu

64:16

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ وَٱسۡمَعُوا۟ وَأَطِیعُوا۟ وَأَنفِقُوا۟ خَیۡرࣰا لِّأَنفُسِكُمۡۗ وَمَن یُوقَ شُحَّ نَفۡسِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١٦

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

So fear God as much as ye can; listen and obey and spend in charity for the benefit of your own soul and those saved from the covetousness of their own souls,- they are the ones that achieve prosperity

fa-ittaqū l-laha mā is'taṭaʿtum wa-is'maʿū wa-aṭīʿū wa-anfiqū khayran li-anfusikum waman yūqa shuḥḥa nafsihi fa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

64:17

إِن تُقۡرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنࣰا یُضَـٰعِفۡهُ لَكُمۡ وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ شَكُورٌ حَلِیمٌ ۝١٧

Yusuf Ali (Orig. 1938)

If ye loan to God, a beautiful loan, He will double it to your (credit), and He will grant you Forgiveness: for God is most Ready to appreciate (service), Most Forbearing,

in tuq'riḍū l-laha qarḍan ḥasanan yuḍāʿif'hu lakum wayaghfir lakum wal-lahu shakūrun ḥalīmu

64:18

عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝١٨

Knower of what is open, Exalted in Might, Full of Wisdom
