Mutual Disillusion, Haggling, The Cheating — Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Translation

Whatever is in the heavens glorifies God and whatever is in and on the earth. His is the dominion and to Him belongs all the praise. And He is Powerful over everything.

yusabbiḥu lillahi mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi lahu l-mul'ku walahu l-ḥamdu wahuwa ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

64:2

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُمۡ فَمِنكُمۡ كَافِرࣱ وَمِنكُم مُّؤۡمِنࣱۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرٌ ۝٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He it is Who created you: So some of you are ones who disbelieve and some of you are ones who believe. And God is Seeing of what you do.

huwa alladhī khalaqakum faminkum kāfirun waminkum mu'minun wal-lahu bimā taʿmalūna baṣīru

64:3

خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَوَّرَكُمۡ فَأَحۡسَنَ صُوَرَكُمۡۖ وَإِلَیۡهِ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He created the heavens and the earth with The Truth and He formed you and formed your forms well. And to Him is the Homecoming!

khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqi waṣawwarakum fa-aḥsana ṣuwarakum wa-ilayhi l-maṣīr

64:4

یَعۡلَمُ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَیَعۡلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعۡلِنُونَۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ ۝٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He knows what is in the heavens and the earth and He knows what you keep secret and what you speak openly. And God is Knowing of what is in the breasts.

yaʿlamu mā fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wayaʿlamu mā tusirrūna wamā tuʿ'linūna wal-lahu ʿalīmun bidhāti l-ṣudūr

64:5

أَلَمۡ یَأۡتِكُمۡ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَبۡلُ فَذَاقُوا۟ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهِمۡ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Approaches you not the tiding of those who were ungrateful before? They experienced the mischief of their affair and there is a painful punishment for them.

alam yatikum naba-u alladhīna kafarū min qablu fadhāqū wabāla amrihim walahum ʿadhābun alīmu

64:6

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُۥ كَانَت تَّأۡتِیهِمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَقَالُوۤا۟ أَبَشَرࣱ یَهۡدُونَنَا فَكَفَرُوا۟ وَتَوَلَّوا۟ۖ وَّٱسۡتَغۡنَى ٱللَّهُۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَنِیٌّ حَمِیدࣱ ۝٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

That had been because their Messengers approach them with the clear portents, but they said: Will mortals guide us? So they were ungrateful and turned away. And God is Self-Sufficient. And God is Rich, Worthy of Praise.

dhālika bi-annahu kānat tatīhim rusuluhum bil-bayināti faqālū abasharun yahdūnanā fakafarū watawallaw wa-is'taghnā l-lahu wal-lahu ghaniyyun ḥamīdu

64:7

زَعَمَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ أَن لَّن یُبۡعَثُوا۟ۚ قُلۡ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّی لَتُبۡعَثُنَّ ثُمَّ لَتُنَبَّؤُنَّ بِمَا عَمِلۡتُمۡۚ وَذَ ٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ یَسِیرࣱ ۝٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Those who were ungrateful claimed that they will never be raised up. Say: Yea! By my Lord, you will, certainly, be raised up. Again, you will be told of what you did. And that is easy for God.

zaʿama alladhīna kafarū an lan yub'ʿathū qul balā warabbī latub'ʿathunna thumma latunabba-unna bimā ʿamil'tum wadhālika ʿalā l-lahi yasīru

64:8

فَءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَٱلنُّورِ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنزَلۡنَاۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِیرࣱ ۝٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

So believe in God and His Messenger, and in the Light which We caused to descend. And God is Aware of what you do.

faāminū bil-lahi warasūlihi wal-nūri alladhī anzalnā wal-lahu bimā taʿmalūna khabīru

64:9

یَوۡمَ یَجۡمَعُكُمۡ لِیَوۡمِ ٱلۡجَمۡعِۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلتَّغَابُنِۗ وَمَن یُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ وَیَعۡمَلۡ صَـٰلِحࣰا یُكَفِّرۡ عَنۡهُ سَیِّءَاتِهِۦ وَیُدۡخِلۡهُ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَبَدࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

On a Day when He will amass you for the Day of Gathering, that will be the day of the mutual loss and gain, and whoever believes in God and does as one in accord with morality, He will absolve him of his evil deeds and He will cause him to enter Gardens beneath which rivers run as ones who will dwell in them forever, eternally. That will be winning the sublime triumph.

yawma yajmaʿukum liyawmi l-jamʿi dhālika yawmu l-taghābuni waman yu'min bil-lahi wayaʿmal ṣāliḥan yukaffir ʿanhu sayyiātihi wayud'khil'hu jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā abadan dhālika l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm

64:10

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝١٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

But for those who were ungrateful and denied Our signs, those are the Companions of the Fire, ones who will dwell in it forever. And miserable will be the Homecoming!

wa-alladhīna kafarū wakadhabū biāyātinā ulāika aṣḥābu l-nāri khālidīna fīhā wabi'sa l-maṣīr

64:11

مَاۤ أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِیبَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَمَن یُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ یَهۡدِ قَلۡبَهُۥۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

No affliction lit but with the permission of God. Whoever believes in God, He guides his heart. And God is Knowing of everything.

mā aṣāba min muṣībatin illā bi-idh'ni l-lahi waman yu'min bil-lahi yahdi qalbahu wal-lahu bikulli shayin ʿalīmu

64:12

وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّیۡتُمۡ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَىٰ رَسُولِنَا ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝١٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And obey God and obey the Messenger. Then, if you turned away, then, it is only for Our Messenger the delivering the clear message.

wa-aṭīʿū l-laha wa-aṭīʿū l-rasūla fa-in tawallaytum fa-innamā ʿalā rasūlinā l-balāghu l-mubīn

64:13

ٱللَّهُ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

God, there is no god but He. And in God let the ones who believe put their trust.

al-lahu lā ilāha illā huwa waʿalā l-lahi falyatawakkali l-mu'minūn

64:14

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِنَّ مِنۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجِكُمۡ وَأَوۡلَـٰدِكُمۡ عَدُوࣰّا لَّكُمۡ فَٱحۡذَرُوهُمۡۚ وَإِن تَعۡفُوا۟ وَتَصۡفَحُوا۟ وَتَغۡفِرُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ۝١٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

O those who believed! Truly, there are among your spouses and your children enemies for you, so beware of them. And if you would pardon, overlook and forgive, then, truly, God is Forgiving, Compassionate.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū inna min azwājikum wa-awlādikum ʿaduwwan lakum fa-iḥ'dharūhum wa-in taʿfū wataṣfaḥū wataghfirū fa-inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

64:15

إِنَّمَاۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلُكُمۡ وَأَوۡلَـٰدُكُمۡ فِتۡنَةࣱۚ وَٱللَّهُ عِندَهُۥۤ أَجۡرٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝١٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Your wealth and your children are only a test. And God, with Him is a sublime compensation.

innamā amwālukum wa-awlādukum fit'natun wal-lahu ʿindahu ajrun ʿaẓīmu

64:16

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ وَٱسۡمَعُوا۟ وَأَطِیعُوا۟ وَأَنفِقُوا۟ خَیۡرࣰا لِّأَنفُسِكُمۡۗ وَمَن یُوقَ شُحَّ نَفۡسِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

So be Godfearing of God as much as you were able and hear and obey and spend. That is good for yourselves, and whoever is protected from his own stinginess, then, those, they are the ones who prosper.

fa-ittaqū l-laha mā is'taṭaʿtum wa-is'maʿū wa-aṭīʿū wa-anfiqū khayran li-anfusikum waman yūqa shuḥḥa nafsihi fa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

64:17

إِن تُقۡرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنࣰا یُضَـٰعِفۡهُ لَكُمۡ وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ شَكُورٌ حَلِیمٌ ۝١٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

If you lend to God a fairer loan, He will multiply it for you and will forgive you. And God is Ready to Appreciate, Forbearing,

in tuq'riḍū l-laha qarḍan ḥasanan yuḍāʿif'hu lakum wayaghfir lakum wal-lahu shakūrun ḥalīmu

64:18

عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝١٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

One Who Knows the unseen and the visible, The Almighty, The Wise.
