The Six Articles of Faith (Arkan al-Iman)
The six core beliefs that every Muslim holds. While the Five Pillars define what a Muslim does, the Articles of Faith define what a Muslim believes.
Belief in Allah
TawhidThe absolute oneness of God (tawhid). Allah has no partners, children, or equals. He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Sovereign of all creation.
2Belief in the Angels
Al-Mala'ikahAngels are created from light and serve Allah without free will. They carry out God's commands throughout the universe, from delivering revelation to recording human deeds.
3Belief in the Revealed Books
Al-KutubMuslims believe in all scriptures God revealed to His prophets: the Scrolls of Ibrahim, the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, and the Quran — God's final, preserved revelation.
4Belief in the Prophets
Al-AnbiyaMuslims believe in all the prophets God sent to humanity, from Adam to Muhammad — the Seal of the Prophets. Prophets are human beings chosen by God to guide humanity to worship Him alone.
5Belief in the Day of Judgment
Yawm al-QiyamahLife on earth is temporary. Every person will be resurrected and held accountable for their deeds. Those whose good deeds prevail will enter Paradise; the Day gives life moral urgency.
6Belief in Divine Decree
Al-QadrAllah has full knowledge of all things past, present, and future. Everything happens by His will and plan. Belief in qadr brings peace in hardship and humility in success.
