Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city [Makkah] secure and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols
Abdel Haleem:
Remember when Abraham said, ‘Lord, make this town safe! Preserve me and my offspring from idolatry
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And when Abraham said: My Lord! Make safe this territory, and preserve me and my sons from serving idols
The Bee 16:7
Noun
وَتَحۡمِلُ أَثۡقَالَكُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَلَدࣲ لَّمۡ تَكُونُوا۟ بَـٰلِغِیهِ إِلَّا بِشِقِّ ٱلۡأَنفُسِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكُمۡ لَرَءُوفࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And they carry your loads to a land you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. Indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful
Abdel Haleem:
They carry your loads to lands you yourselves could not reach without great hardship––truly your Lord is kind and merciful––
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And they bear your loads for you unto a land ye could not reach save with great trouble to yourselves. Lo! your Lord is Full of Pity, Merciful
لِّنُحۡـِۧیَ بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰا وَنُسۡقِیَهُۥ مِمَّا خَلَقۡنَاۤ أَنۡعَـٰمࣰا وَأَنَاسِیَّ كَثِیرࣰا ٤٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
That We may bring to life thereby a dead land and give it as drink to those We created of numerous livestock and men
Abdel Haleem:
so that We can revive a dead land with it, and We give it as a drink to many animals and people We have created
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
That We may give life thereby to a dead land, and We give many beasts and men that We have created to drink thereof
إِنَّمَاۤ أُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَعۡبُدَ رَبَّ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلۡبَلۡدَةِ ٱلَّذِی حَرَّمَهَا وَلَهُۥ كُلُّ شَیۡءࣲۖ وَأُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ ٩١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[Say, O Muhammad], "I have only been commanded to worship the Lord of this city, who made it sacred and to whom [belongs] all things. And I am commanded to be of the Muslims [those who submit to Allah ]
Abdel Haleem:
[Say Prophet], ‘What I am commanded to do is to serve the Sustainer of this town, which He has made inviolable. Everything belongs to Him; I am commanded to be one of those devoted to Him
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
(Say): I (Muhammad) am commanded only to serve the Lord of this land which He hath hallowed, and unto Whom all things belong. And I am commanded to be of those who surrender (unto Him)
The Cow 2:126
Noun
وَإِذۡ قَالَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِـۧمُ رَبِّ ٱجۡعَلۡ هَـٰذَا بَلَدًا ءَامِنࣰا وَٱرۡزُقۡ أَهۡلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ مَنۡ ءَامَنَ مِنۡهُم بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِۚ قَالَ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَأُمَتِّعُهُۥ قَلِیلࣰا ثُمَّ أَضۡطَرُّهُۥۤ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ ٱلنَّارِۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ١٢٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And [mention] when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this a secure city and provide its people with fruits - whoever of them believes in Allah and the Last Day." [ Allah ] said. "And whoever disbelieves - I will grant him enjoyment for a little; then I will force him to the punishment of the Fire, and wretched is the destination."
Abdel Haleem:
Abraham said, ‘My Lord, make this land secure and provide with produce those of its people who believe in God and the Last Day.’ God said, ‘As for those who disbelieve, I will grant them enjoyment for a short while and then subject them to the torment of the Fire- an evil destination.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And when Abraham prayed: My Lord! Make this a region of security and bestow upon its people fruits, such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day, He answered: As for him who disbelieveth, I shall leave him in contentment for a while, then I shall compel him to the doom of Fire - a hapless journey's end
Saba, Sheba 34:15

لَقَدۡ كَانَ لِسَبَإࣲ فِی مَسۡكَنِهِمۡ ءَایَةࣱۖ جَنَّتَانِ عَن یَمِینࣲ وَشِمَالࣲۖ كُلُوا۟ مِن رِّزۡقِ رَبِّكُمۡ وَٱشۡكُرُوا۟ لَهُۥۚ بَلۡدَةࣱ طَیِّبَةࣱ وَرَبٌّ غَفُورࣱ ١٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
There was for [the tribe of] Saba' in their dwelling place a sign: two [fields of] gardens on the right and on the left. [They were told], "Eat from the provisions of your Lord and be grateful to Him. A good land [have you], and a forgiving Lord."
Abdel Haleem:
There was a sign for the people of Sheba, too, in their dwelling place: two gardens, one on the right, one on the left: ‘Eat from what your Lord has provided for you and give Him thanks, for your land is good, and your Lord most forgiving.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
There was indeed a sign for Sheba in their dwelling-place: Two gardens on the right hand and the left (as who should say): Eat of the provision of your Lord and render thanks to Him. A fair land and an indulgent Lord
وَٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَرۡسَلَ ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ فَتُثِیرُ سَحَابࣰا فَسُقۡنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ بَلَدࣲ مَّیِّتࣲ فَأَحۡیَیۡنَا بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلنُّشُورُ ٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And it is Allah who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds, and We drive them to a dead land and give life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness. Thus is the resurrection
Abdel Haleem:
It is God who sends forth the winds; they raise up the clouds; We drive them to a dead land and with them revive the earth after its death: such will be the Resurrection
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And Allah it is Who sendeth the winds and they raise a cloud; then We lead it unto a dead land and revive therewith the earth after its death. Such is the Resurrection
لَا یَغُرَّنَّكَ تَقَلُّبُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡبِلَـٰدِ ١٩٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Be not deceived by the [uninhibited] movement of the disbelievers throughout the land
Abdel Haleem:
[Prophet], do not be deceived by the disbelievers’ [lucrative] trading to and fro in the land
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Let not the vicissitude (of the success) of those who disbelieve, in the land, deceive thee (O Muhammad)
مَا یُجَـٰدِلُ فِیۤ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَلَا یَغۡرُرۡكَ تَقَلُّبُهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡبِلَـٰدِ ٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
No one disputes concerning the signs of Allah except those who disbelieve, so be not deceived by their [uninhibited] movement throughout the land
Abdel Haleem:
It is only the disbelievers who dispute God’s revelations. [Prophet], do not be dazzled by their movements back and forth across the land
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
None argue concerning the revelations of Allah save those who disbelieve, so let not their turn of fortune in the land deceive thee (O Muhammad)
وَٱلَّذِی نَزَّلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءَۢ بِقَدَرࣲ فَأَنشَرۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ تُخۡرَجُونَ ١١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And who sends down rain from the sky in measured amounts, and We revive thereby a dead land - thus will you be brought forth
Abdel Haleem:
who sends water down from the sky in due measure––We resurrect dead land with it, and likewise you will be resurrected from the grave––
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And Who sendeth down water from the sky in (due) measure, and We revive a dead land therewith. Even so will ye be brought forth
The Letter Qaf 50:11
Noun
رِّزۡقࣰا لِّلۡعِبَادِۖ وَأَحۡیَیۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡخُرُوجُ ١١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
As provision for the servants, and We have given life thereby to a dead land. Thus is the resurrection
Abdel Haleem:
as a provision for everyone; how with water We give [new] life to a land that is dead? This is how the dead will emerge [from their graves]
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Provision (made) for men; and therewith We quicken a dead land. Even so will be the resurrection of the dead
The Letter Qaf 50:36
Noun
وَكَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡنٍ هُمۡ أَشَدُّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشࣰا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡبِلَـٰدِ هَلۡ مِن مَّحِیصٍ ٣٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And how many a generation before them did We destroy who were greater than them in [striking] power and had explored throughout the lands. Is there any place of escape
Abdel Haleem:
We have destroyed even mightier generations before these disbelievers, who travelled through [many] lands- was there any escape
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And how many a generation We destroyed before them, who were mightier than these in prowess so that they overran the lands! Had they any place of refuge (when the judgment came)
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُرۡسِلُ ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ بُشۡرَۢا بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡ رَحۡمَتِهِۦۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَقَلَّتۡ سَحَابࣰا ثِقَالࣰا سُقۡنَـٰهُ لِبَلَدࣲ مَّیِّتࣲ فَأَنزَلۡنَا بِهِ ٱلۡمَاۤءَ فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا بِهِۦ مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ ٥٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy until, when they have carried heavy rainclouds, We drive them to a dead land and We send down rain therein and bring forth thereby [some] of all the fruits. Thus will We bring forth the dead; perhaps you may be reminded
Abdel Haleem:
It is God who sends the winds, bearing good news of His coming grace, and when they have gathered up the heavy clouds, We drive them to a dead land where We cause rain to fall, bringing out all kinds of crops, just as We shall bring out the dead. Will you not reflect
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And He it is Who sendeth the winds as tidings heralding His mercy, till, when they bear a cloud heavy (with rain), We lead it to a dead land, and then cause water to descend thereon and thereby bring forth fruits of every kind. Thus bring We forth the dead. Haply ye may remember
وَٱلۡبَلَدُ ٱلطَّیِّبُ یَخۡرُجُ نَبَاتُهُۥ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِۦۖ وَٱلَّذِی خَبُثَ لَا یَخۡرُجُ إِلَّا نَكِدࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَشۡكُرُونَ ٥٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And the good land - its vegetation emerges by permission of its Lord; but that which is bad - nothing emerges except sparsely, with difficulty. Thus do We diversify the signs for a people who are grateful
Abdel Haleem:
Vegetation comes out of good land in abundance, by the will of its Lord, but out of bad land only scantily: We explain Our Revelations in various ways to those who give thanks
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
As for the good land, its vegetation cometh forth by permission of its Lord; while as for that which is bad, only the useless cometh forth (from it). Thus do We recount the tokens for people who give thanks
الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[All of] whom oppressed within the land
Abdel Haleem:
All of them committed excesses in their lands
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands
الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
The likes of whom had never been created in the land
Abdel Haleem:
whose like has never been made in any land
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The like of which was not created in the lands
لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
I swear by this city, Makkah
Abdel Haleem:
I swear by this city––
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Nay, I swear by this city
وَأَنتَ حِلٌّ بِهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city
Abdel Haleem:
and you [Prophet] are an inhabitant of this city––
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And thou art an indweller of this city
وَهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ الْأَمِينِ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And [by] this secure city [Makkah]
Abdel Haleem:
by this safe town
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And by this land made safe
