Hud 11:120
Noun
وَكُلࣰّا نَّقُصُّ عَلَیۡكَ مِنۡ أَنۢبَاۤءِ ٱلرُّسُلِ مَا نُثَبِّتُ بِهِۦ فُؤَادَكَۚ وَجَاۤءَكَ فِی هَـٰذِهِ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَمَوۡعِظَةࣱ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ١٢٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And each [story] We relate to you from the news of the messengers is that by which We make firm your heart. And there has come to you, in this, the truth and an instruction and a reminder for the believers
Abdel Haleem:
So [Muhammad], We have told you the stories of the prophets to make your heart firm and in these accounts truth has come to you, as well as lessons and reminders for the believers
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And all that We relate unto thee of the story of the messengers is in order that thereby We may make firm thy heart. And herein hath come unto thee the Truth and an exhortation and a reminder for believers
Abraham 14:37
Noun
رَّبَّنَاۤ إِنِّیۤ أَسۡكَنتُ مِن ذُرِّیَّتِی بِوَادٍ غَیۡرِ ذِی زَرۡعٍ عِندَ بَیۡتِكَ ٱلۡمُحَرَّمِ رَبَّنَا لِیُقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱجۡعَلۡ أَفۡءِدَةࣰ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ تَهۡوِیۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡ وَٱرۡزُقۡهُم مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَشۡكُرُونَ ٣٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful
Abdel Haleem:
Our Lord, I have established some of my offspring in an uncultivated valley, close to Your Sacred House, Lord, so that they may keep up the prayer. Make people’s hearts turn to them, and provide them with produce, so that they may be thankful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Our Lord! Lo! I have settled some of my posterity in an uncultivable valley near unto Thy holy House, our Lord! that they may establish proper worship; so incline some hearts of men that they may yearn toward them, and provide Thou them with fruits in order that they may be thankful
Abraham 14:43
Noun
مُهۡطِعِینَ مُقۡنِعِی رُءُوسِهِمۡ لَا یَرۡتَدُّ إِلَیۡهِمۡ طَرۡفُهُمۡۖ وَأَفۡءِدَتُهُمۡ هَوَاۤءࣱ ٤٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them, and their hearts are void
Abdel Haleem:
They will rush forward, craning their necks, unable to divert their eyes, a gaping void in their hearts
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
As they come hurrying on in fear, their heads upraised, their gaze returning not to them, and their hearts as air
The Bee 16:78
Noun
وَٱللَّهُ أَخۡرَجَكُم مِّنۢ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ شَیۡءࣰا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡءِدَةَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ٧٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And Allah has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and intellect that perhaps you would be grateful
Abdel Haleem:
It is God who brought you out of your mothers’ wombs knowing nothing, and gave you hearing and sight and minds, so that you might be thankful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And Allah brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers knowing nothing, and gave you hearing and sight and hearts that haply ye might give thanks
وَلَا تَقۡفُ مَا لَیۡسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلۡمٌۚ إِنَّ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡبَصَرَ وَٱلۡفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ كَانَ عَنۡهُ مَسۡءُولࣰا ٣٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned
Abdel Haleem:
Do not follow blindly what you do not know to be true: ears, eyes, and heart, you will be questioned about all these
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
(O man), follow not that whereof thou hast no knowledge. Lo! the hearing and the sight and the heart - of each of these it will be asked
The Believers 23:78
Noun
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡءِدَةَۚ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَشۡكُرُونَ ٧٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful
Abdel Haleem:
It is God who endowed you with hearing, sight, and hearts- how seldom you are grateful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
He it is Who hath created for you ears and eyes and hearts. Small thanks give ye
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ جُمۡلَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ لِنُثَبِّتَ بِهِۦ فُؤَادَكَۖ وَرَتَّلۡنَـٰهُ تَرۡتِیلࣰا ٣٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And those who disbelieve say, "Why was the Qur'an not revealed to him all at once?" Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby your heart. And We have spaced it distinctly
Abdel Haleem:
The disbelievers also say, ‘Why was the Quran not sent down to him all at once?’ We sent it in this way to strengthen your heart [Prophet]; We gave it to you in gradual revelation
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And those who disbelieve say: Why is the Qur'an not revealed unto him all at once? (It is revealed) thus that We may strengthen thy heart therewith; and We have arranged it in right order
وَأَصۡبَحَ فُؤَادُ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰ فَـٰرِغًاۖ إِن كَادَتۡ لَتُبۡدِی بِهِۦ لَوۡلَاۤ أَن رَّبَطۡنَا عَلَىٰ قَلۡبِهَا لِتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ١٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And the heart of Moses' mother became empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers
Abdel Haleem:
The next day, Moses’ mother felt a void in her heart––if We had not strengthened it to make her one of those who believe, she would have revealed everything about him––
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And the heart of the mother of Moses became void, and she would have betrayed him if We had not fortified her heart, that she might be of the believers
ثُمَّ سَوَّىٰهُ وَنَفَخَ فِیهِ مِن رُّوحِهِۦۖ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡءِدَةَۚ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَشۡكُرُونَ ٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Then He proportioned him and breathed into him from His [created] soul and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful
Abdel Haleem:
Then He moulded him; He breathed from His Spirit into him; He gave you hearing, sight, and minds. How seldom you are grateful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Then He fashioned him and breathed into him of His Spirit; and appointed for you hearing and sight and hearts. Small thanks give ye
وَلَقَدۡ مَكَّنَّـٰهُمۡ فِیمَاۤ إِن مَّكَّنَّـٰكُمۡ فِیهِ وَجَعَلۡنَا لَهُمۡ سَمۡعࣰا وَأَبۡصَـٰرࣰا وَأَفۡءِدَةࣰ فَمَاۤ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ سَمۡعُهُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَفۡءِدَتُهُم مِّن شَیۡءٍ إِذۡ كَانُوا۟ یَجۡحَدُونَ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ٢٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And We had certainly established them in such as We have not established you, and We made for them hearing and vision and hearts. But their hearing and vision and hearts availed them not from anything [of the punishment] when they were [continually] rejecting the signs of Allah ; and they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule
Abdel Haleem:
We had established them in a way we have not established you [people of Mecca]; We gave them hearing, sight, and hearts, yet their hearing, sight, and hearts were of no use to them, since they denied God’s revelations. They were overwhelmed by the punishment they had mocked
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And verily We had empowered them with that wherewith We have not empowered you, and had assigned them ears and eyes and hearts; but their ears and eyes and hearts availed them naught since they denied the revelations of Allah; and what they used to mock befell them
The Star 53:11
Noun
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰۤ ١١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
The heart did not lie [about] what it saw
Abdel Haleem:
[The Prophet’s] own heart did not distort what he saw
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw
قُلۡ هُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَكُمۡ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡءِدَةَۚ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَشۡكُرُونَ ٢٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Say, "It is He who has produced you and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful."
Abdel Haleem:
Say [Prophet], ‘It is He who brought you into being, He who endowed you with hearing, sight, and understanding- what small thanks you give!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Say (unto them, O Muhammad): He it is who gave you being, and hath assigned unto you ears and eyes and hearts. Small thanks give ye
وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفۡءِدَتَهُمۡ وَأَبۡصَـٰرَهُمۡ كَمَا لَمۡ یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِهِۦۤ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲ وَنَذَرُهُمۡ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ١١٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they refused to believe in it the first time. And We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly
Abdel Haleem:
We would make their hearts and their eyes turn away, just as they did not believe the first time, and leave them to flounder in their obstinacy
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
We confound their hearts and their eyes. As they believed not therein at the first, We let them wander blindly on in their contumacy
وَلِتَصۡغَىٰۤ إِلَیۡهِ أَفۡءِدَةُ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَلِیَرۡضَوۡهُ وَلِیَقۡتَرِفُوا۟ مَا هُم مُّقۡتَرِفُونَ ١١٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And [it is] so the hearts of those who disbelieve in the Hereafter will incline toward it and that they will be satisfied with it and that they will commit that which they are committing
Abdel Haleem:
so that the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter may incline towards their deceit, be pleased with it, and so perpetrate whatever they perpetrate
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
That the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter may incline thereto, and that they may take pleasure therein, and that they may earn what they are earning
