Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Then We sent after them Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his establishment with Our signs, but they behaved arrogantly and were a criminal peopl
Abdel Haleem:
After them We sent Moses and Aaron with Our signs to Pharaoh and his leading supporters, but they acted arrogantly- they were wicked people
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Then, after them, We sent Moses and Aaron unto Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our revelations, but they were arrogant and were a guilty folk
Jonah 10:83
Noun
فَمَاۤ ءَامَنَ لِمُوسَىٰۤ إِلَّا ذُرِّیَّةࣱ مِّن قَوۡمِهِۦ عَلَىٰ خَوۡفࣲ مِّن فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِمۡ أَن یَفۡتِنَهُمۡۚ وَإِنَّ فِرۡعَوۡنَ لَعَالࣲ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ ٨٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
But no one believed Moses, except [some] youths among his people, for fear of Pharaoh and his establishment that they would persecute them. And indeed, Pharaoh was haughty within the land, and indeed, he was of the transgressor
Abdel Haleem:
But no one believed in Moses except a few of his own people, for fear that Pharaoh and their leaders would persecute them: Pharaoh was domineering in the land and prone to excess
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
But none trusted Moses, save some scions of his people, (and they were) in fear of Pharaoh and their chiefs, that he would persecute them. Lo! Pharaoh was verily a tyrant in the land, and lo! he verily was of the wanton
Jonah 10:88

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ رَبَّنَاۤ إِنَّكَ ءَاتَیۡتَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَأَهُۥ زِینَةࣰ وَأَمۡوَ ٰلࣰا فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا رَبَّنَا لِیُضِلُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِكَۖ رَبَّنَا ٱطۡمِسۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَٱشۡدُدۡ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَلَا یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ یَرَوُا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَلِیمَ ٨٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And Moses said, "Our Lord, indeed You have given Pharaoh and his establishment splendor and wealth in the worldly life, our Lord, that they may lead [men] astray from Your way. Our Lord, obliterate their wealth and harden their hearts so that they will not believe until they see the painful punishment."
Abdel Haleem:
And Moses said, ‘Our Lord, You have given Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and wealth in this present life and here they are, Lord, leading others astray from Your path. Our Lord, obliterate their wealth and harden their hearts so that they do not believe until they see the agonizing torment.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And Moses said: Our Lord! Lo! Thou hast given Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and riches in the life of the world, Our Lord! that they may lead men astray from Thy way. Our Lord! Destroy their riches and harden their hearts so that they believe not till they see the painful doom
Hud 11:27
Noun
فَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ مَا نَرَىٰكَ إِلَّا بَشَرࣰا مِّثۡلَنَا وَمَا نَرَىٰكَ ٱتَّبَعَكَ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ أَرَاذِلُنَا بَادِیَ ٱلرَّأۡیِ وَمَا نَرَىٰ لَكُمۡ عَلَیۡنَا مِن فَضۡلِۭ بَلۡ نَظُنُّكُمۡ كَـٰذِبِینَ ٢٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
So the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, " We do not see you but as a man like ourselves, and we do not see you followed except by those who are the lowest of us [and] at first suggestion. And we do not see in you over us any merit; rather, we think you are liars."
Abdel Haleem:
But the prominent disbelievers among his people said, ‘We can see that you are nothing but a mortal like ourselves, and it is clear to see that only the vilest among us follow you. We cannot see how you are any better than we are. In fact, we think you are a liar.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: We see thee but a mortal like us, and we see not that any follow thee save the most abject among us, without reflection. We behold in you no merit above us - nay, we deem you liars
Hud 11:38
Noun
وَیَصۡنَعُ ٱلۡفُلۡكَ وَكُلَّمَا مَرَّ عَلَیۡهِ مَلَأࣱ مِّن قَوۡمِهِۦ سَخِرُوا۟ مِنۡهُۚ قَالَ إِن تَسۡخَرُوا۟ مِنَّا فَإِنَّا نَسۡخَرُ مِنكُمۡ كَمَا تَسۡخَرُونَ ٣٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And he constructed the ship, and whenever an assembly of the eminent of his people passed by him, they ridiculed him. He said, "If you ridicule us, then we will ridicule you just as you ridicule
Abdel Haleem:
So he began to build the Ark, and whenever leaders of his people passed by, they laughed at him. He said, ‘You may scorn us now, but we will come to scorn you
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And he was building the ship, and every time that chieftains of his people passed him, they made mock of him. He said: Though ye make mock of Us, yet We mock at you even as ye mock
Hud 11:97
Noun
إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَٱتَّبَعُوۤا۟ أَمۡرَ فِرۡعَوۡنَۖ وَمَاۤ أَمۡرُ فِرۡعَوۡنَ بِرَشِیدࣲ ٩٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they followed the command of Pharaoh, and the command of Pharaoh was not [at all] discerning
Abdel Haleem:
to Pharaoh and his supporters, but they followed Pharaoh’s orders, and Pharaoh’s orders were misguided

Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they did follow the command of Pharaoh, and the command of Pharaoh was no right guide
Joseph 12:43
Noun
وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلِكُ إِنِّیۤ أَرَىٰ سَبۡعَ بَقَرَ ٰتࣲ سِمَانࣲ یَأۡكُلُهُنَّ سَبۡعٌ عِجَافࣱ وَسَبۡعَ سُنۢبُلَـٰتٍ خُضۡرࣲ وَأُخَرَ یَابِسَـٰتࣲۖ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلۡمَلَأُ أَفۡتُونِی فِی رُءۡیَـٰیَ إِن كُنتُمۡ لِلرُّءۡیَا تَعۡبُرُونَ ٤٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And [subsequently] the king said, "Indeed, I have seen [in a dream] seven fat cows being eaten by seven [that were] lean, and seven green spikes [of grain] and others [that were] dry. O eminent ones, explain to me my vision, if you should interpret visions."
Abdel Haleem:
The king said, ‘I dreamed about seven fat cows being eaten by seven lean ones; seven green ears of corn and [seven] others withered. Counsellors, if you can interpret dreams, tell me the meaning of my dream.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And the king said: Lo! I saw in a dream seven fat kine which seven lean were eating, and seven green ears of corn and other (seven) dry. O notables! Expound for me my vision, if ye can interpret dreams
The Believers 23:24
Noun
فَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یُرِیدُ أَن یَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةࣰ مَّا سَمِعۡنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِیۤ ءَابَاۤىِٕنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ٢٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allah had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers
Abdel Haleem:
But the leading disbelievers among his people said, ‘He is merely a mortal like you, trying to gain some superiority over you. God would have sent down angels if He had wished; besides, we never heard of anything like this from our forefathers
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
But the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: This is only a mortal like you who would make himself superior to you. Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels. We heard not of this in the case of our fathers of old
The Believers 23:33
Noun
وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَاۤءِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَأَتۡرَفۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یَأۡكُلُ مِمَّا تَأۡكُلُونَ مِنۡهُ وَیَشۡرَبُ مِمَّا تَشۡرَبُونَ ٣٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink
Abdel Haleem:
But the leading disbelievers among his people, who denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, to whom We had granted ease and plenty in this life, said, ‘He is just a mortal like you- he eats what you eat and drinks what you drink
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink
The Believers 23:46
Noun
إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوۡمًا عَالِینَ ٤٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people
Abdel Haleem:
to Pharaoh and his prominent leaders, but they responded with arrogance: they were a haughty people
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk
The Poets 26:34
Noun
قَالَ لِلۡمَلَإِ حَوۡلَهُۥۤ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسَـٰحِرٌ عَلِیمࣱ ٣٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician
Abdel Haleem:
Pharaoh said to the counsellors around him, ‘This man is a learned sorcerer
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
(Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard
قَالَتۡ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلۡمَلَؤُا۟ إِنِّیۤ أُلۡقِیَ إِلَیَّ كِتَـٰبࣱ كَرِیمٌ ٢٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
She said, "O eminent ones, indeed, to me has been delivered a noble letter
Abdel Haleem:
The Queen of Sheba said, ‘Counsellors, a gracious letter has been delivered to me
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
(The Queen of Sheba) said (when she received the letter): O chieftains! Lo! there hath been thrown unto me a noble letter
قَالَتۡ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلۡمَلَؤُا۟ أَفۡتُونِی فِیۤ أَمۡرِی مَا كُنتُ قَاطِعَةً أَمۡرًا حَتَّىٰ تَشۡهَدُونِ ٣٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
She said, "O eminent ones, advise me in my affair. I would not decide a matter until you witness [for] me."
Abdel Haleem:
She said, ‘Counsellors, give me your counsel in the matter I now face: I only ever decide on matters in your presence.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
She said: O chieftains! Pronounce for me in my case. I decide no case till ye are present with me
قَالَ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلۡمَلَؤُا۟ أَیُّكُمۡ یَأۡتِینِی بِعَرۡشِهَا قَبۡلَ أَن یَأۡتُونِی مُسۡلِمِینَ ٣٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[Solomon] said, "O assembly [of jinn], which of you will bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?"
Abdel Haleem:
Then he said, ‘Counsellors, which of you can bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
He said: O chiefs! Which of you will bring me her throne before they come unto me, surrendering
وَجَاۤءَ رَجُلࣱ مِّنۡ أَقۡصَا ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ یَسۡعَىٰ قَالَ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ إِنَّ ٱلۡمَلَأَ یَأۡتَمِرُونَ بِكَ لِیَقۡتُلُوكَ فَٱخۡرُجۡ إِنِّی لَكَ مِنَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِینَ ٢٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors."
Abdel Haleem:
Then a man came running from the furthest part of the city and said, ‘Moses, the authorities are talking about killing you, so leave- this is my sincere advice.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And a man came from the uttermost part of the city, running. He said: O Moses! Lo! the chiefs take counsel against thee to slay thee; therefor escape. Lo! I am of those who give thee good advice
ٱسۡلُكۡ یَدَكَ فِی جَیۡبِكَ تَخۡرُجۡ بَیۡضَاۤءَ مِنۡ غَیۡرِ سُوۤءࣲ وَٱضۡمُمۡ إِلَیۡكَ جَنَاحَكَ مِنَ ٱلرَّهۡبِۖ فَذَ ٰنِكَ بُرۡهَـٰنَانِ مِن رَّبِّكَ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمࣰا فَـٰسِقِینَ ٣٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."
Abdel Haleem:
Put your hand inside your shirt and it will come out white but unharmed- hold your arm close to your side, free from all fear. These shall be two signs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his chiefs; they are truly wicked people.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Thrust thy hand into the bosom of thy robe it will come forth white without hurt. And guard thy heart from fear. Then these shall be two proofs from your Lord unto Pharaoh and his chiefs. Lo! they are evil-living folk
وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلۡمَلَأُ مَا عَلِمۡتُ لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرِی فَأَوۡقِدۡ لِی یَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلطِّینِ فَٱجۡعَل لِّی صَرۡحࣰا لَّعَلِّیۤ أَطَّلِعُ إِلَىٰۤ إِلَـٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّی لَأَظُنُّهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِینَ ٣٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Haman, [a fire] upon the clay and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."
Abdel Haleem:
Pharaoh said, ‘Counsellors, you have no other god that I know of except me. Haman, light me a fire to bake clay bricks, then build me a tall building so that I may climb up to Moses’ God: I am convinced that he is lying.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And Pharaoh said: O chiefs! I know not that ye have a god other than me, so kindle for me (a fire), O Haman, to bake the mud; and set up for me a lofty tower in order that I may survey the god of Moses; and lo! I deem him of the liars
The Cow 2:246
Noun
أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَإِ مِنۢ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مُوسَىٰۤ إِذۡ قَالُوا۟ لِنَبِیࣲّ لَّهُمُ ٱبۡعَثۡ لَنَا مَلِكࣰا نُّقَـٰتِلۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۖ قَالَ هَلۡ عَسَیۡتُمۡ إِن كُتِبَ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡقِتَالُ أَلَّا تُقَـٰتِلُوا۟ۖ قَالُوا۟ وَمَا لَنَاۤ أَلَّا نُقَـٰتِلَ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَدۡ أُخۡرِجۡنَا مِن دِیَـٰرِنَا وَأَبۡنَاۤىِٕنَاۖ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡقِتَالُ تَوَلَّوۡا۟ إِلَّا قَلِیلࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمُۢ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ٢٤٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Have you not considered the assembly of the Children of Israel after [the time of] Moses when they said to a prophet of theirs, "Send to us a king, and we will fight in the way of Allah "? He said, "Would you perhaps refrain from fighting if fighting was prescribed for you?" They said, "And why should we not fight in the cause of Allah when we have been driven out from our homes and from our children?" But when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, except for a few of them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers
Abdel Haleem:
[Prophet], consider the leaders of the Children of Israel who came after Moses, when they said to one of their prophets, ‘Set up a king for us and we shall fight in God’s cause.’ He said, ‘But could it be that you would not fight, if it were ordained for you?’ They said, ‘How could we not fight in God’s cause when we and our children have been driven out of our homeland?’ Yet when they were commanded to fight, all but a few of them turned away: God has full knowledge of those who do wrong
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Bethink thee of the leaders of the Children of Israel after Moses, how they said unto a prophet whom they had: Set up for us a king and we will fight in Allah's way. He said: Would ye then refrain from fighting if fighting were prescribed for you? They said: Why should we not fight in Allah's way when we have been driven from our dwellings with our children? Yet, when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, all save a few of them. Allah is aware of evil-doers
فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَءَاكِلُونَ مِنۡهَا فَمَالِءُونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ ٦٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies
Abdel Haleem:
They will fill their bellies eating from it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith
لَّا یَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ وَیُقۡذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبࣲ ٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side
Abdel Haleem:
they cannot eavesdrop on the Higher Assembly––pelted from every side
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side
The Letter Sad 38:6
Noun
وَٱنطَلَقَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِنۡهُمۡ أَنِ ٱمۡشُوا۟ وَٱصۡبِرُوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ ءَالِهَتِكُمۡۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَشَیۡءࣱ یُرَادُ ٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended
Abdel Haleem:
Their leaders depart, saying, ‘Walk away! Stay faithful to your gods! That is what you must do
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The chiefs among them go about, exhorting: Go and be staunch to your gods! Lo! this is a thing designed
The Letter Sad 38:69
Noun
مَا كَانَ لِیَ مِنۡ عِلۡمِۭ بِٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰۤ إِذۡ یَخۡتَصِمُونَ ٦٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam]
Abdel Haleem:
I have no knowledge of what those on high discuss
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
I had no knowledge of the Highest Chiefs when they disputed
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمۡ كُفَّارࣱ فَلَن یُقۡبَلَ مِنۡ أَحَدِهِم مِّلۡءُ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَهَبࣰا وَلَوِ ٱفۡتَدَىٰ بِهِۦۤۗ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِینَ ٩١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers - never would the [whole] capacity of the earth in gold be accepted from one of them if he would [seek to] ransom himself with it. For those there will be a painful punishment, and they will have no helpers
Abdel Haleem:
those who disbelieve and die disbelievers will not be saved even if they offer enough gold to fill the entire earth. Agonizing torment is in store for them, and there will be no one to help them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Lo! those who disbelieve, and die in disbelief, the (whole) earth full of gold would not be accepted from such an one if it were offered as a ransom (for his soul). Theirs will be a painful doom and they will have no helpers
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَقَالَ إِنِّی رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ٤٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds."
Abdel Haleem:
We sent Moses to Pharaoh and his courtiers and he said, ‘I am truly a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And verily We sent Moses with Our revelations unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, and he said: I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds
فَمَالِءُونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ ٥٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And filling with it your bellie
Abdel Haleem:
filling your bellies with it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And will fill your bellies therewith
ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِم مُّوسَىٰ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَظَلَمُوا۟ بِهَاۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ١٠٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Then We sent after them Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were unjust toward them. So see how was the end of the corrupters
Abdel Haleem:
After these, We sent Moses to Pharaoh and his leading supporters with Our signs, but they rejected them. See the fate of those who used to spread corruption
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Then, after them, We sent Moses with our tokens unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they repelled them. Now, see the nature of the consequence for the corrupters
قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسَـٰحِرٌ عَلِیمࣱ ١٠٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magicia
Abdel Haleem:
The leaders among Pharaoh’s people said, ‘This man is a learned sorcerer
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard
وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ أَتَذَرُ مُوسَىٰ وَقَوۡمَهُۥ لِیُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَیَذَرَكَ وَءَالِهَتَكَۚ قَالَ سَنُقَتِّلُ أَبۡنَاۤءَهُمۡ وَنَسۡتَحۡیِۦ نِسَاۤءَهُمۡ وَإِنَّا فَوۡقَهُمۡ قَـٰهِرُونَ ١٢٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And the eminent among the people of Pharaoh said," Will you leave Moses and his people to cause corruption in the land and abandon you and your gods?" [Pharaoh] said, "We will kill their sons and keep their women alive; and indeed, we are subjugators over them."
Abdel Haleem:
The leaders among Pharaoh’s people said to him, ‘But are you going to leave Moses and his people to spread corruption in the land and forsake you and your gods?’ He replied, ‘We shall kill their male children, sparing only the females: We have complete power over them.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: (O King), wilt thou suffer Moses and his people to make mischief in the land, and flout thee and thy gods? He said: We will slay their sons and spare their women, for lo! we are in power over them
قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ٦٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Said the eminent among his people, "Indeed, we see you in clear error."
Abdel Haleem:
but the prominent leaders of his people said, ‘We believe you are far astray.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The chieftains of his people said: Lo! we see thee surely in plain error
قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِی سَفَاهَةࣲ وَإِنَّا لَنَظُنُّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِینَ ٦٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."
Abdel Haleem:
but the disbelieving leaders of his people said, ‘We believe you are a fool,’ and ‘We think you are a liar.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The chieftains of his people, who were disbelieving, said: Lo! we surely see thee in foolishness, and lo! we deem thee of the liars
قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُوا۟ لِمَنۡ ءَامَنَ مِنۡهُمۡ أَتَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّ صَـٰلِحࣰا مُّرۡسَلࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلَ بِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنُونَ ٧٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people to those who were oppressed - to those who believed among them, "Do you [actually] know that Salih is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which he was sent, are believers."
Abdel Haleem:
but the arrogant leaders among his people said to the believers they thought to be of no account, ‘Do you honestly think that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?’ They said, ‘Yes. We believe in the message sent through him,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The chieftains of his people, who were scornful, said unto those whom they despised, unto such of them as believed: Know ye that Salih is one sent from his Lord? They said: Lo! In that wherewith he hath been sent we are believers
۞ قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لَنُخۡرِجَنَّكَ یَـٰشُعَیۡبُ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَكَ مِن قَرۡیَتِنَاۤ أَوۡ لَتَعُودُنَّ فِی مِلَّتِنَاۚ قَالَ أَوَ لَوۡ كُنَّا كَـٰرِهِینَ ٨٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people, "We will surely evict you, O Shu'ayb, and those who have believed with you from our city, or you must return to our religion." He said, "Even if we were unwilling?"
Abdel Haleem:
His people’s arrogant leaders said, ‘Shuayb, we will expel you and your fellow believers from our town unless you return to our religion.’ He said, ‘What! Even if we detest it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
The chieftains of his people, who were scornful, said: Surely we will drive thee out, O Shu'eyb, and those who believe with thee, from our township, unless ye return to our religion. He said: Even though we hate it
وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لَىِٕنِ ٱتَّبَعۡتُمۡ شُعَیۡبًا إِنَّكُمۡ إِذࣰا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ ٩٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "If you should follow Shu'ayb, indeed, you would then be losers."
Abdel Haleem:
The disbelieving leaders among his people said, ‘You will certainly be losers if you follow Shuayb’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
But the chieftains of his people, who were disbelieving, said: If ye follow Shu'eyb, then truly ye shall be the losers
Verb (7 verses)
Hud 11:119
Verb
إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ رَبُّكَۚ وَلِذَ ٰلِكَ خَلَقَهُمۡۗ وَتَمَّتۡ كَلِمَةُ رَبِّكَ لَأَمۡلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ أَجۡمَعِینَ ١١٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Except whom your Lord has given mercy, and for that He created them. But the word of your Lord is to be fulfilled that, "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and men all together."
Abdel Haleem:
except those on whom your Lord has mercy- for He created them to be this way, and the word of your Lord is final: ‘I shall definitely fill Hell with both jinn and men.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Save him on whom thy Lord hath mercy; and for that He did create them. And the Word of thy Lord hath been fulfilled: Verily I shall fill hell with the jinn and mankind together
The Cave 18:18
Verb
وَتَحۡسَبُهُمۡ أَیۡقَاظࣰا وَهُمۡ رُقُودࣱۚ وَنُقَلِّبُهُمۡ ذَاتَ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَذَاتَ ٱلشِّمَالِۖ وَكَلۡبُهُم بَـٰسِطࣱ ذِرَاعَیۡهِ بِٱلۡوَصِیدِۚ لَوِ ٱطَّلَعۡتَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ لَوَلَّیۡتَ مِنۡهُمۡ فِرَارࣰا وَلَمُلِئۡتَ مِنۡهُمۡ رُعۡبࣰا ١٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror
Abdel Haleem:
You would have thought they were awake, though they lay asleep. We turned them over, to the right and the left, with their dog stretching out its forelegs at the entrance. If you had seen them, you would have turned and run away, filled with fear of them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And thou wouldst have deemed them waking though they were asleep, and We caused them to turn over to the right and the left, and their dog stretching out his paws on the threshold. If thou hadst observed them closely thou hadst assuredly turned away from them in flight, and hadst been filled with awe of them
وَلَوۡ شِئۡنَا لَءَاتَیۡنَا كُلَّ نَفۡسٍ هُدَىٰهَا وَلَـٰكِنۡ حَقَّ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ مِنِّی لَأَمۡلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ أَجۡمَعِینَ ١٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And if we had willed, We could have given every soul its guidance, but the word from Me will come into effect [that] "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and people all together
Abdel Haleem:
‘If it had been Our will, We could certainly have given every soul its true guidance, but My words have come true. “I shall be sure to fill Hell with jinn and men together.”
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And if We had so willed, We could have given every soul its guidance, but the word from Me concerning evildoers took effect: that I will fill hell with the jinn and mankind together
The Letter Sad 38:85
Verb
لَأَمۡلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكَ وَمِمَّن تَبِعَكَ مِنۡهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ٨٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[That] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together."
Abdel Haleem:
I will fill Hell with you and all those that follow you.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
That I shall fill hell with thee and with such of them as follow thee, together
The Letter Qaf 50:30
Verb
یَوۡمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمۡتَلَأۡتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلۡ مِن مَّزِیدࣲ ٣٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
On the Day We will say to Hell, "Have you been filled?" and it will say, "Are there some more,"
Abdel Haleem:
We shall say to Hell on that day, ‘Are you full?’ and it will reply, ‘Are there no more?’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
On the day when We say unto hell: Art thou filled? and it saith: Can there be more to come
The Jinn 72:8
Verb
وَأَنَّا لَمَسۡنَا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ فَوَجَدۡنَـٰهَا مُلِئَتۡ حَرَسࣰا شَدِیدࣰا وَشُهُبࣰا ٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames
Abdel Haleem:
We tried to reach heaven, but discovered it to be full of stern guards and shooting stars––
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And (the Jinn who had listened to the Qur'an said): We had sought the heaven but had found it filled with strong warders and meteors
قَالَ ٱخۡرُجۡ مِنۡهَا مَذۡءُومࣰا مَّدۡحُورࣰاۖ لَّمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنۡهُمۡ لَأَمۡلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ١٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[ Allah ] said, "Get out of Paradise, reproached and expelled. Whoever follows you among them - I will surely fill Hell with you, all together."
Abdel Haleem:
God said, ‘Get out! You are disgraced and banished! I swear I shall fill Hell with you and all who follow you
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
He said: Go forth from hence, degraded, banished. As for such of them as follow thee, surely I will fill hell with all of you
