Verse 15:16 in Context

12 كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَسۡلُكُهُۥ فِی قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝١٢ kadhālika naslukuhu fī qulūbi l-muj'rimīn in this way We make the message slip through the hearts of evildoers 13 لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَقَدۡ خَلَتۡ سُنَّةُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٣ lā yu'minūna bihi waqad khalat sunnatu l-awalīn They will not believe in it. That was what happened with the peoples of long ago 14 وَلَوۡ فَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم بَابࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِیهِ یَعۡرُجُونَ ۝١٤ walaw fataḥnā ʿalayhim bāban mina l-samāi faẓallū fīhi yaʿrujūn and even if We opened a gateway into Heaven for them and they rose through it, higher and higher 15 لَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتۡ أَبۡصَـٰرُنَا بَلۡ نَحۡنُ قَوۡمࣱ مَّسۡحُورُونَ ۝١٥ laqālū innamā sukkirat abṣārunā bal naḥnu qawmun masḥūrūn they would still say, ‘Our eyes are hallucinating. We are bewitched.’
16 وَلَقَدۡ جَعَلۡنَا فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ بُرُوجࣰا وَزَیَّنَّـٰهَا لِلنَّـٰظِرِینَ ۝١٦ walaqad jaʿalnā fī l-samāi burūjan wazayyannāhā lilnnāẓirīn We have set constellations up in the sky and made it beautiful for all to see
17 وَحَفِظۡنَـٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَیۡطَـٰنࣲ رَّجِیمٍ ۝١٧ waḥafiẓ'nāhā min kulli shayṭānin rajīmi and guarded it from every stoned satan 18 إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمۡعَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ شِهَابࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٨ illā mani is'taraqa l-samʿa fa-atbaʿahu shihābun mubīnu any eavesdropper will be pursued by a clearly visible flame 19 وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مَّوۡزُونࣲ ۝١٩ wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli shayin mawzūni As for the earth, We have spread it out, set firm mountains on it, and made everything grow there in due balance 20 وَجَعَلۡنَا لَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَعَـٰیِشَ وَمَن لَّسۡتُمۡ لَهُۥ بِرَ ٰزِقِینَ ۝٢٠ wajaʿalnā lakum fīhā maʿāyisha waman lastum lahu birāziqīn We have provided sustenance in it for you and for all those creatures for whom you do not provide
