Verse 15:32 in Context

28 وَإِذۡ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ إِنِّی خَـٰلِقُۢ بَشَرࣰا مِّن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ مِّنۡ حَمَإࣲ مَّسۡنُونࣲ ۝٢٨ wa-idh qāla rabbuka lil'malāikati innī khāliqun basharan min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūni Your Lord said to the angels, ‘I will create a mortal out of dried clay, formed from dark mud 29 فَإِذَا سَوَّیۡتُهُۥ وَنَفَخۡتُ فِیهِ مِن رُّوحِی فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِینَ ۝٢٩ fa-idhā sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu fīhi min rūḥī faqaʿū lahu sājidīn When I have fashioned him and breathed My spirit into him, bow down before him,’ 30 فَسَجَدَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ كُلُّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعُونَ ۝٣٠ fasajada l-malāikatu kulluhum ajmaʿūn and the angels all did so 31 إِلَّاۤ إِبۡلِیسَ أَبَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝٣١ illā ib'līsa abā an yakūna maʿa l-sājidīn But not Iblis: he refused to bow down like the others
32 قَالَ یَـٰۤإِبۡلِیسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝٣٢ qāla yāib'līsu mā laka allā takūna maʿa l-sājidīn God said, ‘Iblis, why did you not bow down like the others?’
33 قَالَ لَمۡ أَكُن لِّأَسۡجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقۡتَهُۥ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ مِّنۡ حَمَإࣲ مَّسۡنُونࣲ ۝٣٣ qāla lam akun li-asjuda libasharin khalaqtahu min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūni and he answered, ‘I will not bow to a mortal You created from dried clay, formed from dark mud.’ 34 قَالَ فَٱخۡرُجۡ مِنۡهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِیمࣱ ۝٣٤ qāla fa-ukh'ruj min'hā fa-innaka rajīmu ‘Get out of here!’ said God. ‘You are an outcast 35 وَإِنَّ عَلَیۡكَ ٱللَّعۡنَةَ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٣٥ wa-inna ʿalayka l-laʿnata ilā yawmi l-dīn rejected until the Day of Judgement.’ 36 قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرۡنِیۤ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝٣٦ qāla rabbi fa-anẓir'nī ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn Iblis said, ‘My Lord, give me respite until the Day when they are raised from the dead.’
