Verse 16:51 in Context

47 أَوۡ یَأۡخُذَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ تَخَوُّفࣲ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمۡ لَرَءُوفࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ۝٤٧ aw yakhudhahum ʿalā takhawwufin fa-inna rabbakum laraūfun raḥīmu or that it will not catch up with them gradually? Indeed your Lord is kind and merciful 48 أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَیۡءࣲ یَتَفَیَّؤُا۟ ظِلَـٰلُهُۥ عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَٱلشَّمَاۤىِٕلِ سُجَّدࣰا لِّلَّهِ وَهُمۡ دَ ٰخِرُونَ ۝٤٨ awalam yaraw ilā mā khalaqa l-lahu min shayin yatafayya-u ẓilāluhu ʿani l-yamīni wal-shamāili sujjadan lillahi wahum dākhirūn Do the [disbelievers] not observe the things that God has created, casting their shadows right and left, submitting themselves to God obediently 49 وَ̅لِ̅لَّ̅هِ̅ ̅یَ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِن دَاۤبَّةࣲ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ وَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٤٩ walillahi yasjudu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi min dābbatin wal-malāikatu wahum lā yastakbirūn It is to God that everything in the heavens and earth submits, every beast that moves, even the angels- they are free from arrogance 50 یَخَافُونَ رَبَّهُم مِّن فَوۡقِهِمۡ وَیَفۡعَلُونَ مَا یُؤۡمَرُونَ ۝٥٠ ۩ yakhāfūna rabbahum min fawqihim wayafʿalūna mā yu'marūn they fear their Lord above them, and they do as they are commanded
51 ۞ وَقَالَ ٱللَّهُ لَا تَتَّخِذُوۤا۟ إِلَـٰهَیۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِۖ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱ فَإِیَّـٰیَ فَٱرۡهَبُونِ ۝٥١ waqāla l-lahu lā tattakhidhū ilāhayni ith'nayni innamā huwa ilāhun wāḥidun fa-iyyāya fa-ir'habūn God said, ‘Do not take two gods’- for He is the One God––‘ I alone am the One that you should hold in awe.’
52 وَلَهُۥ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَهُ ٱلدِّینُ وَاصِبًاۚ أَفَغَیۡرَ ٱللَّهِ تَتَّقُونَ ۝٥٢ walahu mā fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi walahu l-dīnu wāṣiban afaghayra l-lahi tattaqūn Everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Him: everlasting obedience is His right. Will you heed anyone other than God 53 وَمَا بِكُم مِّن نِّعۡمَةࣲ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِۖ ثُمَّ إِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فَإِلَیۡهِ تَجۡءَرُونَ ۝٥٣ wamā bikum min niʿ'matin famina l-lahi thumma idhā massakumu l-ḍuru fa-ilayhi tajarūn Whatever good things you possess come from God, and when hardship afflicts you, it is to Him alone you cry out for help 54 ثُمَّ إِذَا كَشَفَ ٱلضُّرَّ عَنكُمۡ إِذَا فَرِیقࣱ مِّنكُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٥٤ thumma idhā kashafa l-ḍura ʿankum idhā farīqun minkum birabbihim yush'rikūn yet when He has relieved you of your hardship- lo and behold!- some of you attribute partners to your Lord 55 لِیَكۡفُرُوا۟ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمۡۚ فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ فَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٥٥ liyakfurū bimā ātaynāhum fatamattaʿū fasawfa taʿlamūn Let them show ingratitude for the favours We have shown them; ‘Enjoy your brief time- soon you will know.’
