Verse 7:4 in Context

1 ۞ الۤمۤصۤ ۝١ alif-lam-meem-sa Alif Lam Mim Sa 2 كِتَـٰبٌ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَ فَلَا یَكُن فِی صَدۡرِكَ حَرَجࣱ مِّنۡهُ لِتُنذِرَ بِهِۦ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٢ kitābun unzila ilayka falā yakun fī ṣadrika ḥarajun min'hu litundhira bihi wadhik'rā lil'mu'minīn This Book has been sent down to you [Prophet]––let there be no anxiety in your heart because of it––so that you may use it to give warning and to remind the believers 3 ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَۗ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٣ ittabiʿū mā unzila ilaykum min rabbikum walā tattabiʿū min dūnihi awliyāa qalīlan mā tadhakkarūn ‘Follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord; do not follow other masters beside Him. How seldom you take heed!’
4 وَكَم مِّن قَرۡیَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهَا فَجَاۤءَهَا بَأۡسُنَا بَیَـٰتًا أَوۡ هُمۡ قَاۤىِٕلُونَ ۝٤ wakam min qaryatin ahlaknāhā fajāahā basunā bayātan aw hum qāilūn How many towns We have destroyed! Our punishment came to them by night or while they slept in the afternoon
5 فَمَا كَانَ دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ إِذۡ جَاۤءَهُم بَأۡسُنَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٥ famā kāna daʿwāhum idh jāahum basunā illā an qālū innā kunnā ẓālimīn their only cry when Our punishment came to them was, ‘How wrong we were!’ 6 فَلَنَسۡءَلَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ أُرۡسِلَ إِلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَنَسۡءَلَنَّ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٦ falanasalanna alladhīna ur'sila ilayhim walanasalanna l-mur'salīn We shall certainly question those to whom messengers were sent–– and We shall question the messengers themselves–– 7 فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ عَلَیۡهِم بِعِلۡمࣲۖ وَمَا كُنَّا غَاۤىِٕبِینَ ۝٧ falanaquṣṣanna ʿalayhim biʿil'min wamā kunnā ghāibīn and, with full knowledge, for We were never far from them, We shall tell them what they did 8 وَٱلۡوَزۡنُ یَوۡمَىِٕذٍ ٱلۡحَقُّۚ فَمَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٨ wal-waznu yawma-idhin l-ḥaqu faman thaqulat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn On that Day the weighing of deeds will be true and just: those whose good deeds are heavy on the scales will be the ones to prosper
