1 Revelation dispels darkness

الۤرۚ كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَیۡكَ لِتُخۡرِجَ ٱلنَّاسَ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطِ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡحَمِیدِ ۝١

A.L.R. Qur’an is a book revealed from God to Mohammad in order to lead mankind, by His will, out of darkness into light: The path of God Almighty, the only One Worthy of Worship

alif-lam-ra kitābun anzalnāhu ilayka litukh'rija l-nāsa mina l-ẓulumāti ilā l-nūri bi-idh'ni rabbihim ilā ṣirāṭi l-ʿazīzi l-ḥamīd

ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِی لَهُۥ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ وَوَیۡلࣱ لِّلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ مِنۡ عَذَابࣲ شَدِیدٍ ۝٢

God is the owner of everything which exist in the heavens and in the earth. How terrible is God’s punishment being reserved for the disbeliever

al-lahi alladhī lahu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi wawaylun lil'kāfirīna min ʿadhābin shadīdi

ٱلَّذِینَ یَسۡتَحِبُّونَ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا عَلَى ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَیَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَیَبۡغُونَهَا عِوَجًاۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ فِی ضَلَـٰلِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٣

Those who prefer this worldly life to Life after death, prefer dirt roads which lead to nowhere to God’s highway. They are indeed wrong

alladhīna yastaḥibbūna l-ḥayata l-dun'yā ʿalā l-ākhirati wayaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi wayabghūnahā ʿiwajan ulāika fī ḍalālin baʿīdi

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا بِلِسَانِ قَوۡمِهِۦ لِیُبَیِّنَ لَهُمۡۖ فَیُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَهۡدِی مَن یَشَاۤءُۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٤

For those who ask why Qur’an is not revealed in another language as a miracle!] God has always sent His words to each nation on their own language so that they may get the message clearly. [The message thus being clear], God then makes whoever he pleases [of the disbelievers] to walk on the wrong path and whoever he pleases to join the right path and He is the All Mighty, the Wisest

wamā arsalnā min rasūlin illā bilisāni qawmihi liyubayyina lahum fayuḍillu l-lahu man yashāu wayahdī man yashāu wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ أَنۡ أَخۡرِجۡ قَوۡمَكَ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ وَذَكِّرۡهُم بِأَیَّىٰمِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارࣲ شَكُورࣲ ۝٥

I (God) sent Moses with [undeniable] miracles and said: “Lead your people out of darkness into the light and remind them of what they have to do (how to worship God) in each day of the Lord (as well as the history of mankind.) Those who are patient and grateful will understand it (wisdom of their daily acts of worship.)”

walaqad arsalnā mūsā biāyātinā an akhrij qawmaka mina l-ẓulumāti ilā l-nūri wadhakkir'hum bi-ayyāmi l-lahi inna fī dhālika laāyātin likulli ṣabbārin shakūri

وَإِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِ ٱذۡكُرُوا۟ نِعۡمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنجَىٰكُم مِّنۡ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ یَسُومُونَكُمۡ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ وَیُذَبِّحُونَ أَبۡنَاۤءَكُمۡ وَیَسۡتَحۡیُونَ نِسَاۤءَكُمۡۚ وَفِی ذَ ٰلِكُم بَلَاۤءࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٦

Moses said to his people: “Count your blessings. The Lord saved you from the tyranny of the Pharaoh’s people. They had made your life miserable: Slaughtering your males and abusing your females. What a harsh trial your Lord had subjected you to.”

wa-idh qāla mūsā liqawmihi udh'kurū niʿ'mata l-lahi ʿalaykum idh anjākum min āli fir'ʿawna yasūmūnakum sūa l-ʿadhābi wayudhabbiḥūna abnāakum wayastaḥyūna nisāakum wafī dhālikum balāon min rabbikum ʿaẓīmu

2 Truth is rejected first

وَإِذۡ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمۡ لَىِٕن شَكَرۡتُمۡ لَأَزِیدَنَّكُمۡۖ وَلَىِٕن كَفَرۡتُمۡ إِنَّ عَذَابِی لَشَدِیدࣱ ۝٧

Remember what your Lord has promised: “The more appreciative you are, the more I will shower you with my blessings. On the contrary, if you do not appreciate my blessings upon you, I will subject you to the sever punishments (for a complete sermon of Moses (as mentioned in the Bible) see Deuteronomy Ch.4-6-8-10-11-28-29-30.)”

wa-idh ta-adhana rabbukum la-in shakartum la-azīdannakum wala-in kafartum inna ʿadhābī lashadīdu

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰۤ إِن تَكۡفُرُوۤا۟ أَنتُمۡ وَمَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِیعࣰا فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَنِیٌّ حَمِیدٌ ۝٨

Moses also said: “If you choose to disregard the Lord (along with all people on earth), God cares the least as He is in no need. He is The Wealthiest, the Only One worth of praise.”

waqāla mūsā in takfurū antum waman fī l-arḍi jamīʿan fa-inna l-laha laghaniyyun ḥamīdu

أَلَمۡ یَأۡتِكُمۡ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ قَوۡمِ نُوحࣲ وَعَادࣲ وَثَمُودَ وَٱلَّذِینَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُهُمۡ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُۚ جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَرَدُّوۤا۟ أَیۡدِیَهُمۡ فِیۤ أَفۡوَ ٰهِهِمۡ وَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كَفَرۡنَا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلۡتُم بِهِۦ وَإِنَّا لَفِی شَكࣲّ مِّمَّا تَدۡعُونَنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ مُرِیبࣲ ۝٩

Have you not heard about the previous nations (such as the people of Noah, Aad, Thamood, and the others who followed them?) There were also other nations (such as Mayas, Incas, etc.) that only God knows their full history. All those nations were blessed with Prophets who had undeniable miracles in support of their prophet hood. But when they conveyed the Message, people put their fingers in their mouth (the utmost sign of disrespect, as though they were vomiting) and said: “We disbelieve in your miracles and doubt about the way of life that you are inviting us to.”

alam yatikum naba-u alladhīna min qablikum qawmi nūḥin waʿādin wathamūda wa-alladhīna min baʿdihim lā yaʿlamuhum illā l-lahu jāathum rusuluhum bil-bayināti faraddū aydiyahum fī afwāhihim waqālū innā kafarnā bimā ur'sil'tum bihi wa-innā lafī shakkin mimmā tadʿūnanā ilayhi murībi

۞ قَالَتۡ رُسُلُهُمۡ أَفِی ٱللَّهِ شَكࣱّ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ یَدۡعُوكُمۡ لِیَغۡفِرَ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمۡ وَیُؤَخِّرَكُمۡ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّىۚ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُنَا تُرِیدُونَ أَن تَصُدُّونَا عَمَّا كَانَ یَعۡبُدُ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا فَأۡتُونَا بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١٠

Their prophets said: “Do you have doubt about the Lord who has initiated the heavens and the earth? What is wrong about His willingness to forgive your sins and giving you a second chance from now till the rest of your life [so that you prove that you deserve His generosity?” The disbelievers replied: “Who are you? You are nothing but human beings like us. You simply want to change our way of life (as it is fashionable today to refer to as American way of life in the U.S.) and deprive us of what our forefathers have worshipped in their wisdom. If you are truthful, come up with a miracle in support of your claims.”

qālat rusuluhum afī l-lahi shakkun fāṭiri l-samāwāti wal-arḍi yadʿūkum liyaghfira lakum min dhunūbikum wayu-akhirakum ilā ajalin musamman qālū in antum illā basharun mith'lunā turīdūna an taṣuddūnā ʿammā kāna yaʿbudu ābāunā fatūnā bisul'ṭānin mubīni

قَالَتۡ لَهُمۡ رُسُلُهُمۡ إِن نَّحۡنُ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَمُنُّ عَلَىٰ مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۖ وَمَا كَانَ لَنَاۤ أَن نَّأۡتِیَكُم بِسُلۡطَـٰنٍ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١١

Their prophets replied: “True, we are human beings like you. Do you have any objection if the Lord blesses someone among you and appoint him as His Messenger for you? As for your demand for a miracle, we cannot produce none without the will of the Lord. Know that in God alone the believers put their trust.”

qālat lahum rusuluhum in naḥnu illā basharun mith'lukum walākinna l-laha yamunnu ʿalā man yashāu min ʿibādihi wamā kāna lanā an natiyakum bisul'ṭānin illā bi-idh'ni l-lahi waʿalā l-lahi falyatawakkali l-mu'minūn

وَمَا لَنَاۤ أَلَّا نَتَوَكَّلَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وَقَدۡ هَدَىٰنَا سُبُلَنَاۚ وَلَنَصۡبِرَنَّ عَلَىٰ مَاۤ ءَاذَیۡتُمُونَاۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُتَوَكِّلُونَ ۝١٢

They continued: “Is there any reason that we should not trust the One Who has guided us to the straight path? We will patiently continue put up with your persecution. Those who are blessed with the ability to trust, trust none but the Lord.”

wamā lanā allā natawakkala ʿalā l-lahi waqad hadānā subulanā walanaṣbiranna ʿalā mā ādhaytumūnā waʿalā l-lahi falyatawakkali l-mutawakilūn

3 Opposition is at last destroyed

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِرُسُلِهِمۡ لَنُخۡرِجَنَّكُم مِّنۡ أَرۡضِنَاۤ أَوۡ لَتَعُودُنَّ فِی مِلَّتِنَاۖ فَأَوۡحَىٰۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ لَنُهۡلِكَنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٣

The disbelievers replied: “Enough is enough; if you do not join us, we will kick you our of our state.” The Lord then revealed to them: “It is time to destroy the disbelievers.”

waqāla alladhīna kafarū lirusulihim lanukh'rijannakum min arḍinā aw lataʿūdunna fī millatinā fa-awḥā ilayhim rabbuhum lanuh'likanna l-ẓālimīn

وَلَنُسۡكِنَنَّكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ لِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامِی وَخَافَ وَعِیدِ ۝١٤

“Then, I will establish you in their land as a reward for respecting Me and believing in My promise.”

walanus'kinannakumu l-arḍa min baʿdihim dhālika liman khāfa maqāmī wakhāfa waʿīd

وَٱسۡتَفۡتَحُوا۟ وَخَابَ كُلُّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِیدࣲ ۝١٥

They challenged the Lord and received what they deserved. Every tyrant has to face his doom

wa-is'taftaḥū wakhāba kullu jabbārin ʿanīdi

مِّن وَرَاۤىِٕهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ وَیُسۡقَىٰ مِن مَّاۤءࣲ صَدِیدࣲ ۝١٦

Waiting for such person is Hell, wherein he has nothing to drink but a boiling disgusting water

min warāihi jahannamu wayus'qā min māin ṣadīdi

یَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ وَلَا یَكَادُ یُسِیغُهُۥ وَیَأۡتِیهِ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانࣲ وَمَا هُوَ بِمَیِّتࣲۖ وَمِن وَرَاۤىِٕهِۦ عَذَابٌ غَلِیظࣱ ۝١٧

He can not bear more than a sip. He will face the agony of the death which will approach him from every direction, yet he will not be terminated. He has to continue suffering

yatajarraʿuhu walā yakādu yusīghuhu wayatīhi l-mawtu min kulli makānin wamā huwa bimayyitin wamin warāihi ʿadhābun ghalīẓu

مَّثَلُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمۡۖ أَعۡمَـٰلُهُمۡ كَرَمَادٍ ٱشۡتَدَّتۡ بِهِ ٱلرِّیحُ فِی یَوۡمٍ عَاصِفࣲۖ لَّا یَقۡدِرُونَ مِمَّا كَسَبُوا۟ عَلَىٰ شَیۡءࣲۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ ٱلۡبَعِیدُ ۝١٨

The disbelievers’ good deeds will not benefit them (as it is the truth that has to remain and the falsehood, with all its beneficial side effect has to vanish.) Their works will disappear the same way that the ashes disappear by a strong wind in a stormy day. Such is the case of one who goes far from the boundaries set by God

mathalu alladhīna kafarū birabbihim aʿmāluhum karamādin ish'taddat bihi l-rīḥu fī yawmin ʿāṣifin lā yaqdirūna mimmā kasabū ʿalā shayin dhālika huwa l-ḍalālu l-baʿīd

أَلَمۡ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ إِن یَشَأۡ یُذۡهِبۡكُمۡ وَیَأۡتِ بِخَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدࣲ ۝١٩

Do you not see that God has based the creation of the heavens and the earth on the basis of (the survival of the) truth? If He (faces the human being’s continuous effort to establish the falsehood then He) may decide to remove man and substitute him with a new creation

alam tara anna l-laha khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqi in yasha yudh'hib'kum wayati bikhalqin jadīdi

وَمَا ذَ ٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ بِعَزِیزࣲ ۝٢٠

This is not difficult at all for God

wamā dhālika ʿalā l-lahi biʿazīzi

وَبَرَزُوا۟ لِلَّهِ جَمِیعࣰا فَقَالَ ٱلضُّعَفَـٰۤؤُا۟ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمۡ تَبَعࣰا فَهَلۡ أَنتُم مُّغۡنُونَ عَنَّا مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَیۡءࣲۚ قَالُوا۟ لَوۡ هَدَىٰنَا ٱللَّهُ لَهَدَیۡنَـٰكُمۡۖ سَوَاۤءٌ عَلَیۡنَاۤ أَجَزِعۡنَاۤ أَمۡ صَبَرۡنَا مَا لَنَا مِن مَّحِیصࣲ ۝٢١

When the disbelievers stand before God, they will ask their leaders: “We used to follow you. Can you help us now to receive a little bit lighter sentence from God?” Their leader will say: “If we had deserved the Lord’s guidance in our worldly life, we would have guided you (so that you receive a lighter sentence, or none, today.) Now it is too late. Whether we face our destiny with patience or grief, there is no escape for us

wabarazū lillahi jamīʿan faqāla l-ḍuʿafāu lilladhīna is'takbarū innā kunnā lakum tabaʿan fahal antum mugh'nūna ʿannā min ʿadhābi l-lahi min shayin qālū law hadānā l-lahu lahadaynākum sawāon ʿalaynā ajaziʿ'nā am ṣabarnā mā lanā min maḥīṣi

4 Truth is Confirmed

وَقَالَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ لَمَّا قُضِیَ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَعَدَكُمۡ وَعۡدَ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَوَعَدتُّكُمۡ فَأَخۡلَفۡتُكُمۡۖ وَمَا كَانَ لِیَ عَلَیۡكُم مِّن سُلۡطَـٰنٍ إِلَّاۤ أَن دَعَوۡتُكُمۡ فَٱسۡتَجَبۡتُمۡ لِیۖ فَلَا تَلُومُونِی وَلُومُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۖ مَّاۤ أَنَا۠ بِمُصۡرِخِكُمۡ وَمَاۤ أَنتُم بِمُصۡرِخِیَّ إِنِّی كَفَرۡتُ بِمَاۤ أَشۡرَكۡتُمُونِ مِن قَبۡلُۗ إِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٢٢

Once the judgment is passed, Satan will say: “God kept His promises. I broke my promises to you. I never had any power over you. I invited you to my path and you simply accepted it. Therefore, do not blame me; blame yourselves. Today, neither I can help you nor you can get me out of trouble. You chose me as your Lord by obeying me [instead of obeying God.] I disown you for adopting other than God as your lords. The unjust people (such as yours who committed such a big injustice) have to taste an awful punishment

waqāla l-shayṭānu lammā quḍiya l-amru inna l-laha waʿadakum waʿda l-ḥaqi wawaʿadttukum fa-akhlaftukum wamā kāna liya ʿalaykum min sul'ṭānin illā an daʿawtukum fa-is'tajabtum lī falā talūmūnī walūmū anfusakum mā anā bimuṣ'rikhikum wamā antum bimuṣ'rikhiyya innī kafartu bimā ashraktumūni min qablu inna l-ẓālimīna lahum ʿadhābun alīmu

وَأُدۡخِلَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَا بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِمۡۖ تَحِیَّتُهُمۡ فِیهَا سَلَـٰمٌ ۝٢٣

As for those who chose to believe (and what they did in their life was God pleasing,) they will enter into the gardens of Paradise under which the canals of water flow. They will have the permission of the Lord to stay there forever and will be greeted with : “Peace!”

wa-ud'khila alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā bi-idh'ni rabbihim taḥiyyatuhum fīhā salāmu

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَیۡفَ ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلࣰا كَلِمَةࣰ طَیِّبَةࣰ كَشَجَرَةࣲ طَیِّبَةٍ أَصۡلُهَا ثَابِتࣱ وَفَرۡعُهَا فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ ۝٢٤

God considers the “Pure Word” (the belief in oneness of God, God pleasing acts, regulars worshipping acts, charity, belief in Hereafter, etc.) as a “pure tree” which is deeply rooted on earth (in the heart of the believers) and its branches high in the sky (striving to reach the Heaven.

alam tara kayfa ḍaraba l-lahu mathalan kalimatan ṭayyibatan kashajaratin ṭayyibatin aṣluhā thābitun wafarʿuhā fī l-samā

تُؤۡتِیۤ أُكُلَهَا كُلَّ حِینِۭ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهَاۗ وَیَضۡرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٢٥

Such three has permission form the Lord to bear fruits every season (from which the spirits of the believers feed.) Thus, God makes His points clear so that people come to their senses

tu'tī ukulahā kulla ḥīnin bi-idh'ni rabbihā wayaḍribu l-lahu l-amthāla lilnnāsi laʿallahum yatadhakkarūn

وَمَثَلُ كَلِمَةٍ خَبِیثَةࣲ كَشَجَرَةٍ خَبِیثَةٍ ٱجۡتُثَّتۡ مِن فَوۡقِ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مَا لَهَا مِن قَرَارࣲ ۝٢٦

As to the “Evil Word” (opposite of the Pure word), it is like a tree that has no root (essence) to stand upon. It is chopped at the soil level

wamathalu kalimatin khabīthatin kashajaratin khabīthatin uj'tuthat min fawqi l-arḍi mā lahā min qarāri

یُثَبِّتُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ ٱلثَّابِتِ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَفِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۖ وَیُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَۚ وَیَفۡعَلُ ٱللَّهُ مَا یَشَاۤءُ ۝٢٧

God strengthens those who believe with His “Firm word” in this life as well as in the Hereafter. As to the unjust people, God will send them to the darkness (as they have proven that they do not deserve the guidance) and God does whatever He wills

yuthabbitu l-lahu alladhīna āmanū bil-qawli l-thābiti fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wafī l-ākhirati wayuḍillu l-lahu l-ẓālimīna wayafʿalu l-lahu mā yashā

5 Man's injustice in rejecting Truth

۞ أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِینَ بَدَّلُوا۟ نِعۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ كُفۡرࣰا وَأَحَلُّوا۟ قَوۡمَهُمۡ دَارَ ٱلۡبَوَارِ ۝٢٨

Have you noted those who responded to the Lord’s blessings with ingratitude and led (themselves as well as) their people (family/ followers) to where the losers end up in

alam tara ilā alladhīna baddalū niʿ'mata l-lahi kuf'ran wa-aḥallū qawmahum dāra l-bawār

جَهَنَّمَ یَصۡلَوۡنَهَاۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡقَرَارُ ۝٢٩

Yes; they will end up in the Hell. What an evil place to end up in

jahannama yaṣlawnahā wabi'sa l-qarār

وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ أَندَادࣰا لِّیُضِلُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦۗ قُلۡ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ فَإِنَّ مَصِیرَكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ ۝٣٠

They fabricate their own ideologies setting up equals to God. Say to them: “Enjoy this short life of yours as you are headed towards the Hell.”

wajaʿalū lillahi andādan liyuḍillū ʿan sabīlihi qul tamattaʿū fa-inna maṣīrakum ilā l-nār

قُل لِّعِبَادِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ یُقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَیُنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ سِرࣰّا وَعَلَانِیَةࣰ مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن یَأۡتِیَ یَوۡمࣱ لَّا بَیۡعࣱ فِیهِ وَلَا خِلَـٰلٌ ۝٣١

Say to those servants of mine who have chosen to believe: “Worship the Lord on regular basis, spend a part of your income (that God has given you at first place) to the charity (publicly or secretly) before the coming of a Day in which there will be neither bargaining nor any friendly gestures

qul liʿibādiya alladhīna āmanū yuqīmū l-ṣalata wayunfiqū mimmā razaqnāhum sirran waʿalāniyatan min qabli an yatiya yawmun lā bayʿun fīhi walā khilālu

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَأَخۡرَجَ بِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ رِزۡقࣰا لَّكُمۡۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡفُلۡكَ لِتَجۡرِیَ فِی ٱلۡبَحۡرِ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرَ ۝٣٢

God is the One Who has created the heavens and the earth. He sends down the water from the sky in order to grow all kinds of agricultural products for you to eat. He has let you take control of the ships by which He may let you travel overseas and has put the rivers as well subservient to you

al-lahu alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wa-anzala mina l-samāi māan fa-akhraja bihi mina l-thamarāti riz'qan lakum wasakhara lakumu l-ful'ka litajriya fī l-baḥri bi-amrihi wasakhara lakumu l-anhār

وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَ دَاۤىِٕبَیۡنِۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّیۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ۝٣٣

God is the One Who has made the sun and the moon (which constantly follow their paths) of service to you. He has also subjected the night and the day to [the laws which are beneficial to] you

wasakhara lakumu l-shamsa wal-qamara dāibayni wasakhara lakumu al-layla wal-nahār

وَءَاتَىٰكُم مِّن كُلِّ مَا سَأَلۡتُمُوهُۚ وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحۡصُوهَاۤۗ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَظَلُومࣱ كَفَّارࣱ ۝٣٤

God has given you what you have asked for. As a matter of fact, you are showered with so much blessings that you cannot even count them! What a shame that mankind is unjust and ungrateful

waātākum min kulli mā sa-altumūhu wa-in taʿuddū niʿ'mata l-lahi lā tuḥ'ṣūhā inna l-insāna laẓalūmun kaffāru

6 Abraham's prayer

وَإِذۡ قَالَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ رَبِّ ٱجۡعَلۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدَ ءَامِنࣰا وَٱجۡنُبۡنِی وَبَنِیَّ أَن نَّعۡبُدَ ٱلۡأَصۡنَامَ ۝٣٥

Now (I open a new chapter and ask you to) remember when Abraham said: “My Lord, please make this place (Mecca) a city of peace and save me and my descendents from falling into idol worshipping trap.”

wa-idh qāla ib'rāhīmu rabbi ij'ʿal hādhā l-balada āminan wa-uj'nub'nī wabaniyya an naʿbuda l-aṣnām

رَبِّ إِنَّهُنَّ أَضۡلَلۡنَ كَثِیرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِۖ فَمَن تَبِعَنِی فَإِنَّهُۥ مِنِّیۖ وَمَنۡ عَصَانِی فَإِنَّكَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٣٦

“Lord, idol worshipping has led many people to darkness. Those who follow me, they belong with me. As for those who do not follow me, (lead them to the right path as) you are forgiver and Most Merciful.”

rabbi innahunna aḍlalna kathīran mina l-nāsi faman tabiʿanī fa-innahu minnī waman ʿaṣānī fa-innaka ghafūrun raḥīmu

رَّبَّنَاۤ إِنِّیۤ أَسۡكَنتُ مِن ذُرِّیَّتِی بِوَادٍ غَیۡرِ ذِی زَرۡعٍ عِندَ بَیۡتِكَ ٱلۡمُحَرَّمِ رَبَّنَا لِیُقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱجۡعَلۡ أَفۡءِدَةࣰ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ تَهۡوِیۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡ وَٱرۡزُقۡهُم مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٣٧

“Lord, I have settled some of my off springs in an uncultivatable valley near your sacred House. Lord, I have given them this opportunity so that they may worship you properly. May you make the people’s hearts tender towards them. May you provide for them all kind of agricultural products and may they turn out grateful to your blessings.”

rabbanā innī askantu min dhurriyyatī biwādin ghayri dhī zarʿin ʿinda baytika l-muḥarami rabbanā liyuqīmū l-ṣalata fa-ij'ʿal afidatan mina l-nāsi tahwī ilayhim wa-ur'zuq'hum mina l-thamarāti laʿallahum yashkurūn

رَبَّنَاۤ إِنَّكَ تَعۡلَمُ مَا نُخۡفِی وَمَا نُعۡلِنُۗ وَمَا یَخۡفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِن شَیۡءࣲ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ ۝٣٨

“Our Lord, you are aware of what we are keeping as secret to ourselves as well as what we declare publicly. The fact of the matter is, nothing in the earth and in the heaven is hidden from God.”

rabbanā innaka taʿlamu mā nukh'fī wamā nuʿ'linu wamā yakhfā ʿalā l-lahi min shayin fī l-arḍi walā fī l-samā

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی وَهَبَ لِی عَلَى ٱلۡكِبَرِ إِسۡمَـٰعِیلَ وَإِسۡحَـٰقَۚ إِنَّ رَبِّی لَسَمِیعُ ٱلدُّعَاۤءِ ۝٣٩

“I thank you God for granting me Ishmael and Isaac, at such an old age. I bear witness that My Lord answers the prayers.”

al-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī wahaba lī ʿalā l-kibari is'māʿīla wa-is'ḥāqa inna rabbī lasamīʿu l-duʿā

رَبِّ ٱجۡعَلۡنِی مُقِیمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّیَّتِیۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلۡ دُعَاۤءِ ۝٤٠

“Lord, bless me and my off springs with the urge to worship you on regular basis. Lord, may you respond to my prayers.”

rabbi ij'ʿalnī muqīma l-ṣalati wamin dhurriyyatī rabbanā wataqabbal duʿā

رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لِی وَلِوَ ٰلِدَیَّ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ یَوۡمَ یَقُومُ ٱلۡحِسَابُ ۝٤١

“Lord, forgive me, my parents, as well as all the believers on the Day that we have to present our report card to you.”

rabbanā igh'fir lī waliwālidayya walil'mu'minīna yawma yaqūmu l-ḥisāb

7 End of Opposition

وَلَا تَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَـٰفِلًا عَمَّا یَعۡمَلُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَۚ إِنَّمَا یُؤَخِّرُهُمۡ لِیَوۡمࣲ تَشۡخَصُ فِیهِ ٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرُ ۝٤٢

Do not ever think that God is unaware of what the disbelievers do. He only leaves them alone for a while until the Day that the eyes will become wide open out of terror

walā taḥsabanna l-laha ghāfilan ʿammā yaʿmalu l-ẓālimūna innamā yu-akhiruhum liyawmin tashkhaṣu fīhi l-abṣār

مُهۡطِعِینَ مُقۡنِعِی رُءُوسِهِمۡ لَا یَرۡتَدُّ إِلَیۡهِمۡ طَرۡفُهُمۡۖ وَأَفۡءِدَتُهُمۡ هَوَاۤءࣱ ۝٤٣

They will rush (to the appointed place) in terror with their heads up-lifted. Their eyes will not even blink and they will be absolutely horrified

muh'ṭiʿīna muq'niʿī ruūsihim lā yartaddu ilayhim ṭarfuhum wa-afidatuhum hawāo

وَأَنذِرِ ٱلنَّاسَ یَوۡمَ یَأۡتِیهِمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ فَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ رَبَّنَاۤ أَخِّرۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلࣲ قَرِیبࣲ نُّجِبۡ دَعۡوَتَكَ وَنَتَّبِعِ ٱلرُّسُلَۗ أَوَ لَمۡ تَكُونُوۤا۟ أَقۡسَمۡتُم مِّن قَبۡلُ مَا لَكُم مِّن زَوَالࣲ ۝٤٤

Let them know that there will be a Day when they have to face their punishment. Those who have been unjust will beg: “Our Lord, give just a little more time so that we respond to your Message and follow your Messengers.” They will be responded: “Are you not the same people who used to swear that there is no such thing as punishment?”

wa-andhiri l-nāsa yawma yatīhimu l-ʿadhābu fayaqūlu alladhīna ẓalamū rabbanā akhir'nā ilā ajalin qarībin nujib daʿwataka wanattabiʿi l-rusula awalam takūnū aqsamtum min qablu mā lakum min zawāli

وَسَكَنتُمۡ فِی مَسَـٰكِنِ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَتَبَیَّنَ لَكُمۡ كَیۡفَ فَعَلۡنَا بِهِمۡ وَضَرَبۡنَا لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَ ۝٤٥

Remember that you live in the same land that its people wronged their souls. You know exactly how I punished them. Learn from such examples

wasakantum fī masākini alladhīna ẓalamū anfusahum watabayyana lakum kayfa faʿalnā bihim waḍarabnā lakumu l-amthāl

وَقَدۡ مَكَرُوا۟ مَكۡرَهُمۡ وَعِندَ ٱللَّهِ مَكۡرُهُمۡ وَإِن كَانَ مَكۡرُهُمۡ لِتَزُولَ مِنۡهُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ ۝٤٦

The disbelievers had recourse to the most evil plans; the plans that could have moved the mountains. What they did not know was that God was aware of their plans

waqad makarū makrahum waʿinda l-lahi makruhum wa-in kāna makruhum litazūla min'hu l-jibāl

فَلَا تَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِفَ وَعۡدِهِۦ رُسُلَهُۥۤۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزࣱ ذُو ٱنتِقَامࣲ ۝٤٧

Do not think even for a moment that God will ever break what He has promised to His messengers. The Lord is Almighty & Revengeful

falā taḥsabanna l-laha mukh'lifa waʿdihi rusulahu inna l-laha ʿazīzun dhū intiqāmi

یَوۡمَ تُبَدَّلُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ غَیۡرَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتُۖ وَبَرَزُوا۟ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡوَ ٰحِدِ ٱلۡقَهَّارِ ۝٤٨

One Day (when the earth will be a totally different earth and the heavens will look strange,) everyone will be brought before the Lord, the One, the Irresistible

yawma tubaddalu l-arḍu ghayra l-arḍi wal-samāwātu wabarazū lillahi l-wāḥidi l-qahār

وَتَرَى ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ مُّقَرَّنِینَ فِی ٱلۡأَصۡفَادِ ۝٤٩

Then you will see all sinners chained together

watarā l-muj'rimīna yawma-idhin muqarranīna fī l-aṣfād

سَرَابِیلُهُم مِّن قَطِرَانࣲ وَتَغۡشَىٰ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ ۝٥٠

They will be dipped in tar and their faces covered with fire

sarābīluhum min qaṭirānin wataghshā wujūhahumu l-nār

لِیَجۡزِیَ ٱللَّهُ كُلَّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّا كَسَبَتۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِیعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ۝٥١

Thus God will pay each soul what it has earned. Yes; God is swift in implementing His Justice

liyajziya l-lahu kulla nafsin mā kasabat inna l-laha sarīʿu l-ḥisāb

هَـٰذَا بَلَـٰغࣱ لِّلنَّاسِ وَلِیُنذَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَلِیَعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱ وَلِیَذَّكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝٥٢

This (Qur’an) is a universal Message for mankind. Let them all know that He is the One and Only One God. May those who are blessed with intelligence come to their senses and take this warning seriously

hādhā balāghun lilnnāsi waliyundharū bihi waliyaʿlamū annamā huwa ilāhun wāḥidun waliyadhakkara ulū l-albāb
