1 Revelation dispels darkness

الۤرۚ كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَیۡكَ لِتُخۡرِجَ ٱلنَّاسَ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطِ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡحَمِیدِ ۝١

A. L. R. A Book! We have sent it unto you, in order that you may bring out mankind from darknesses unto light under permission from their Nourisher-Sustainer to the path of the All-Mighty, the Most Praise-Worthy

alif-lam-ra kitābun anzalnāhu ilayka litukh'rija l-nāsa mina l-ẓulumāti ilā l-nūri bi-idh'ni rabbihim ilā ṣirāṭi l-ʿazīzi l-ḥamīd

ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِی لَهُۥ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ وَوَیۡلࣱ لِّلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ مِنۡ عَذَابࣲ شَدِیدٍ ۝٢

Allah — That One — for Him (is) what (is) in the heavens and what (is) in the earth. And woe unto the disbelievers from a severe torment

al-lahi alladhī lahu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi wawaylun lil'kāfirīna min ʿadhābin shadīdi

ٱلَّذِینَ یَسۡتَحِبُّونَ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا عَلَى ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَیَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَیَبۡغُونَهَا عِوَجًاۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ فِی ضَلَـٰلِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٣

Those who prefer the life of this world over the Hereafter and hinder (people) from the way of Allah and seek crookedness therein — they are in ignorance, far and wide

alladhīna yastaḥibbūna l-ḥayata l-dun'yā ʿalā l-ākhirati wayaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi wayabghūnahā ʿiwajan ulāika fī ḍalālin baʿīdi

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا بِلِسَانِ قَوۡمِهِۦ لِیُبَیِّنَ لَهُمۡۖ فَیُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَهۡدِی مَن یَشَاۤءُۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٤

And We sent not a messenger except in the (mother) tongue of his nation so that he may fully explain to them. So Allah allows to go astray whom He thinks proper and He guides whom He thinks proper and He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise

wamā arsalnā min rasūlin illā bilisāni qawmihi liyubayyina lahum fayuḍillu l-lahu man yashāu wayahdī man yashāu wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ أَنۡ أَخۡرِجۡ قَوۡمَكَ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ وَذَكِّرۡهُم بِأَیَّىٰمِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارࣲ شَكُورࣲ ۝٥

And indeed, We sent Musa with Our Signs (saying): “Bring out your nation from darknesses unto light, and give them a Message through the Annals of Allah". Truly, in these (Annals are) indeed signs for all the patient and thankful (ones)

walaqad arsalnā mūsā biāyātinā an akhrij qawmaka mina l-ẓulumāti ilā l-nūri wadhakkir'hum bi-ayyāmi l-lahi inna fī dhālika laāyātin likulli ṣabbārin shakūri

وَإِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِ ٱذۡكُرُوا۟ نِعۡمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنجَىٰكُم مِّنۡ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ یَسُومُونَكُمۡ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ وَیُذَبِّحُونَ أَبۡنَاۤءَكُمۡ وَیَسۡتَحۡیُونَ نِسَاۤءَكُمۡۚ وَفِی ذَ ٰلِكُم بَلَاۤءࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٦

And (bring to mind) when Musa said to his nation: “Call to mind Allah’s favour unto you when He delivered you from the followers of Firaun — they afflict you with horrible torment and they slaughter your sons, and they let your women stay alive, and in this, for you, (is) a tremendous trial from your Nourisher-Sustainer.”

wa-idh qāla mūsā liqawmihi udh'kurū niʿ'mata l-lahi ʿalaykum idh anjākum min āli fir'ʿawna yasūmūnakum sūa l-ʿadhābi wayudhabbiḥūna abnāakum wayastaḥyūna nisāakum wafī dhālikum balāon min rabbikum ʿaẓīmu

2 Truth is rejected first

وَإِذۡ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمۡ لَىِٕن شَكَرۡتُمۡ لَأَزِیدَنَّكُمۡۖ وَلَىِٕن كَفَرۡتُمۡ إِنَّ عَذَابِی لَشَدِیدࣱ ۝٧

And when your Nourisher-Sustainer proclaimed: “Indeed, if you gave thanks, surely I will bestow you more (of My Bounty), and surely, if you denied (then) indeed, My Punishment is surely very severe.”

wa-idh ta-adhana rabbukum la-in shakartum la-azīdannakum wala-in kafartum inna ʿadhābī lashadīdu

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰۤ إِن تَكۡفُرُوۤا۟ أَنتُمۡ وَمَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِیعࣰا فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَنِیٌّ حَمِیدٌ ۝٨

And Musa said: “If you disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth — altogether, then verily, Allah is indeed Free of all wants, Most Praise-Worthy.

waqāla mūsā in takfurū antum waman fī l-arḍi jamīʿan fa-inna l-laha laghaniyyun ḥamīdu

أَلَمۡ یَأۡتِكُمۡ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ قَوۡمِ نُوحࣲ وَعَادࣲ وَثَمُودَ وَٱلَّذِینَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُهُمۡ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُۚ جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَرَدُّوۤا۟ أَیۡدِیَهُمۡ فِیۤ أَفۡوَ ٰهِهِمۡ وَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كَفَرۡنَا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلۡتُم بِهِۦ وَإِنَّا لَفِی شَكࣲّ مِّمَّا تَدۡعُونَنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ مُرِیبࣲ ۝٩

Has not the news reached you of those before you, the nation of Nûh and ‘Ad and Samûd and those after them? None knows them except Allah. Their Messengers came to them with Al-Bayyinât, but they put their hands to the mouths of these (Messengers to block their speech) and said: “Verily, we have rejected that with which you have been sent. And surely, we are really in grave doubt about what you call us towards it.

alam yatikum naba-u alladhīna min qablikum qawmi nūḥin waʿādin wathamūda wa-alladhīna min baʿdihim lā yaʿlamuhum illā l-lahu jāathum rusuluhum bil-bayināti faraddū aydiyahum fī afwāhihim waqālū innā kafarnā bimā ur'sil'tum bihi wa-innā lafī shakkin mimmā tadʿūnanā ilayhi murībi

۞ قَالَتۡ رُسُلُهُمۡ أَفِی ٱللَّهِ شَكࣱّ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ یَدۡعُوكُمۡ لِیَغۡفِرَ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمۡ وَیُؤَخِّرَكُمۡ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّىۚ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُنَا تُرِیدُونَ أَن تَصُدُّونَا عَمَّا كَانَ یَعۡبُدُ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا فَأۡتُونَا بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١٠

Their Messengers said: “What ! (Could there be) a doubt about Allah, the Initiator of the heavens and the earth? He invites you (to the way of life given in His Al-Kitâb) so that He may forgive you your sins and may allow you to prolong your stay (on the land) for a term appointed.” They said: “You are not but a human being like us. You intend that you turn us away from what our fathers used to worship. So bring us a clear authority.”

qālat rusuluhum afī l-lahi shakkun fāṭiri l-samāwāti wal-arḍi yadʿūkum liyaghfira lakum min dhunūbikum wayu-akhirakum ilā ajalin musamman qālū in antum illā basharun mith'lunā turīdūna an taṣuddūnā ʿammā kāna yaʿbudu ābāunā fatūnā bisul'ṭānin mubīni

قَالَتۡ لَهُمۡ رُسُلُهُمۡ إِن نَّحۡنُ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَمُنُّ عَلَىٰ مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۖ وَمَا كَانَ لَنَاۤ أَن نَّأۡتِیَكُم بِسُلۡطَـٰنٍ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١١

Their Messengers said to them: “We are not but a human being like you but Allah bestows His Grace to whom He thinks proper out of His Ibâd. And it is not for us that we may come to you with authority except under permission of Allah. And in Allah the Believers must put their trust

qālat lahum rusuluhum in naḥnu illā basharun mith'lukum walākinna l-laha yamunnu ʿalā man yashāu min ʿibādihi wamā kāna lanā an natiyakum bisul'ṭānin illā bi-idh'ni l-lahi waʿalā l-lahi falyatawakkali l-mu'minūn

وَمَا لَنَاۤ أَلَّا نَتَوَكَّلَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وَقَدۡ هَدَىٰنَا سُبُلَنَاۚ وَلَنَصۡبِرَنَّ عَلَىٰ مَاۤ ءَاذَیۡتُمُونَاۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُتَوَكِّلُونَ ۝١٢

And what is to us that we may not put our trust in Allah and indeed He has guided us our ways. And we shall certainly show patience over what you gave us in hurt. And in Allah must put their trust those who put their trust.

wamā lanā allā natawakkala ʿalā l-lahi waqad hadānā subulanā walanaṣbiranna ʿalā mā ādhaytumūnā waʿalā l-lahi falyatawakkali l-mutawakilūn

3 Opposition is at last destroyed

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِرُسُلِهِمۡ لَنُخۡرِجَنَّكُم مِّنۡ أَرۡضِنَاۤ أَوۡ لَتَعُودُنَّ فِی مِلَّتِنَاۖ فَأَوۡحَىٰۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ لَنُهۡلِكَنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٣

And those who disbelieved said for their Messengers: “Surely, we shall drive you out of our land or you must return in our Millat.” So their Nourisher-Sustainer sent inspiration towards them: “Truly, We shall annihilate the transgressors

waqāla alladhīna kafarū lirusulihim lanukh'rijannakum min arḍinā aw lataʿūdunna fī millatinā fa-awḥā ilayhim rabbuhum lanuh'likanna l-ẓālimīn

وَلَنُسۡكِنَنَّكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ لِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامِی وَخَافَ وَعِیدِ ۝١٤

And indeed, We shall settle you in (this very) land after them. This is for that who felt dreadful about My Position and got afraid of My warning.”

walanus'kinannakumu l-arḍa min baʿdihim dhālika liman khāfa maqāmī wakhāfa waʿīd

وَٱسۡتَفۡتَحُوا۟ وَخَابَ كُلُّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِیدࣲ ۝١٥

And they sought a decision, and perished all the obstinate, arrogant ones

wa-is'taftaḥū wakhāba kullu jabbārin ʿanīdi

مِّن وَرَاۤىِٕهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ وَیُسۡقَىٰ مِن مَّاۤءࣲ صَدِیدࣲ ۝١٦

Out of his back (what chases him is) Hell and he will be made to drink from water which will find obstruction in swallowing

min warāihi jahannamu wayus'qā min māin ṣadīdi

یَتَجَرَّعُهُۥ وَلَا یَكَادُ یُسِیغُهُۥ وَیَأۡتِیهِ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانࣲ وَمَا هُوَ بِمَیِّتࣲۖ وَمِن وَرَاۤىِٕهِۦ عَذَابٌ غَلِیظࣱ ۝١٧

He will sip it little by little and he will not be able to pass it beyond the throat, and death will approach him from all the sites but he will not be one who dies, and out of his back (i.e., what chases him) is a penetrating punishment

yatajarraʿuhu walā yakādu yusīghuhu wayatīhi l-mawtu min kulli makānin wamā huwa bimayyitin wamin warāihi ʿadhābun ghalīẓu

مَّثَلُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمۡۖ أَعۡمَـٰلُهُمۡ كَرَمَادٍ ٱشۡتَدَّتۡ بِهِ ٱلرِّیحُ فِی یَوۡمٍ عَاصِفࣲۖ لَّا یَقۡدِرُونَ مِمَّا كَسَبُوا۟ عَلَىٰ شَیۡءࣲۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ ٱلۡبَعِیدُ ۝١٨

The example of those who disbelieved in their Nourisher-Sustainer: their works are like ashes on which the wind blew furiously on a stormy day. They do not assess about what they have earned, in any way. That is: it is an ignorance far and wide

mathalu alladhīna kafarū birabbihim aʿmāluhum karamādin ish'taddat bihi l-rīḥu fī yawmin ʿāṣifin lā yaqdirūna mimmā kasabū ʿalā shayin dhālika huwa l-ḍalālu l-baʿīd

أَلَمۡ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ إِن یَشَأۡ یُذۡهِبۡكُمۡ وَیَأۡتِ بِخَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدࣲ ۝١٩

Do you not see that Allah created the heavens and the earth according to need? If He thinks proper He will remove you and will come with a new creation (a new people becoming rightful owners of the land)

alam tara anna l-laha khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqi in yasha yudh'hib'kum wayati bikhalqin jadīdi

وَمَا ذَ ٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ بِعَزِیزࣲ ۝٢٠

And this is not difficult for Allah

wamā dhālika ʿalā l-lahi biʿazīzi

وَبَرَزُوا۟ لِلَّهِ جَمِیعࣰا فَقَالَ ٱلضُّعَفَـٰۤؤُا۟ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمۡ تَبَعࣰا فَهَلۡ أَنتُم مُّغۡنُونَ عَنَّا مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَیۡءࣲۚ قَالُوا۟ لَوۡ هَدَىٰنَا ٱللَّهُ لَهَدَیۡنَـٰكُمۡۖ سَوَاۤءٌ عَلَیۡنَاۤ أَجَزِعۡنَاۤ أَمۡ صَبَرۡنَا مَا لَنَا مِن مَّحِیصࣲ ۝٢١

And they approached and set before Allah altogether. Then the weak ones said to those who become arrogant: “Verily, we were followers to you, so are you those who can rid us of the punishment of Allah to any extent?” They said: “Had Allah guided us we would have surely guided you. It is equal on us whether we complained and begged or we bore in patience. There is not for us out of a place of refuge or escape.

wabarazū lillahi jamīʿan faqāla l-ḍuʿafāu lilladhīna is'takbarū innā kunnā lakum tabaʿan fahal antum mugh'nūna ʿannā min ʿadhābi l-lahi min shayin qālū law hadānā l-lahu lahadaynākum sawāon ʿalaynā ajaziʿ'nā am ṣabarnā mā lanā min maḥīṣi

4 Truth is Confirmed

وَقَالَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ لَمَّا قُضِیَ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَعَدَكُمۡ وَعۡدَ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَوَعَدتُّكُمۡ فَأَخۡلَفۡتُكُمۡۖ وَمَا كَانَ لِیَ عَلَیۡكُم مِّن سُلۡطَـٰنٍ إِلَّاۤ أَن دَعَوۡتُكُمۡ فَٱسۡتَجَبۡتُمۡ لِیۖ فَلَا تَلُومُونِی وَلُومُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۖ مَّاۤ أَنَا۠ بِمُصۡرِخِكُمۡ وَمَاۤ أَنتُم بِمُصۡرِخِیَّ إِنِّی كَفَرۡتُ بِمَاۤ أَشۡرَكۡتُمُونِ مِن قَبۡلُۗ إِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٢٢

And said the Satan as and when the case got decided: “Certainly, Allah promised you a genuine Promise, and I (too) promised you, then I betrayed you; and there was not in me any of the authority over you except that I invited you (to sin and fantasy) and you gave response to me. So blame me not, rather blame your ownselves. I am not a helper to you in response to your request for help and you are not a helper to me in response to my request for help. Surely, I have denied and disclaimed that which you assigned me as partnership (in the Dominion of Allah) in times gone by.” Indeed, the transgressors: for them is punishment, extremely painful

waqāla l-shayṭānu lammā quḍiya l-amru inna l-laha waʿadakum waʿda l-ḥaqi wawaʿadttukum fa-akhlaftukum wamā kāna liya ʿalaykum min sul'ṭānin illā an daʿawtukum fa-is'tajabtum lī falā talūmūnī walūmū anfusakum mā anā bimuṣ'rikhikum wamā antum bimuṣ'rikhiyya innī kafartu bimā ashraktumūni min qablu inna l-ẓālimīna lahum ʿadhābun alīmu

وَأُدۡخِلَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَا بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِمۡۖ تَحِیَّتُهُمۡ فِیهَا سَلَـٰمٌ ۝٢٣

And those who have Believed and done righteous deeds will be admitted into Gardens, flow underneath them rivers, dwellers therein under permission of their Nourisher-Sustainer. Their Greeting therein (will be) Salâm

wa-ud'khila alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā bi-idh'ni rabbihim taḥiyyatuhum fīhā salāmu

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَیۡفَ ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلࣰا كَلِمَةࣰ طَیِّبَةࣰ كَشَجَرَةࣲ طَیِّبَةٍ أَصۡلُهَا ثَابِتࣱ وَفَرۡعُهَا فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ ۝٢٤

See you not how Allah presented the example of kalimatan Tayyibatan (The desirable committal): like a desirable tree, its root is firmly fixed, and its offshoot into the sky

alam tara kayfa ḍaraba l-lahu mathalan kalimatan ṭayyibatan kashajaratin ṭayyibatin aṣluhā thābitun wafarʿuhā fī l-samā

تُؤۡتِیۤ أُكُلَهَا كُلَّ حِینِۭ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهَاۗ وَیَضۡرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٢٥

It brings forth its fruit in all seasons under permission of its Nourisher-Sustainer. And Allah sets forth similitudes for mankind so that they may be reminded and (also) they may remind (others)

tu'tī ukulahā kulla ḥīnin bi-idh'ni rabbihā wayaḍribu l-lahu l-amthāla lilnnāsi laʿallahum yatadhakkarūn

وَمَثَلُ كَلِمَةٍ خَبِیثَةࣲ كَشَجَرَةٍ خَبِیثَةٍ ٱجۡتُثَّتۡ مِن فَوۡقِ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مَا لَهَا مِن قَرَارࣲ ۝٢٦

And the example of Kalimatin Khabisatin (undesirable committal): like an evil and undesirable tree; it got uprooted from (its loose grip) on the surface of the earth. There is not for it any stability

wamathalu kalimatin khabīthatin kashajaratin khabīthatin uj'tuthat min fawqi l-arḍi mā lahā min qarāri

یُثَبِّتُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ ٱلثَّابِتِ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَفِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۖ وَیُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَۚ وَیَفۡعَلُ ٱللَّهُ مَا یَشَاۤءُ ۝٢٧

Allah establishes those who have Believed through Al-Qawl-as-Sabit (The Established Committal) in the life of the world and in the Hereafter. And He allows transgressors to go astray. And Allah does what He thinks proper

yuthabbitu l-lahu alladhīna āmanū bil-qawli l-thābiti fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wafī l-ākhirati wayuḍillu l-lahu l-ẓālimīna wayafʿalu l-lahu mā yashā

5 Man's injustice in rejecting Truth

۞ أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِینَ بَدَّلُوا۟ نِعۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ كُفۡرࣰا وَأَحَلُّوا۟ قَوۡمَهُمۡ دَارَ ٱلۡبَوَارِ ۝٢٨

Don’t you see towards those who replaced the Grace of Allah (i.e., Islamic way) by disbelief and landed their nation into the abode of ruin

alam tara ilā alladhīna baddalū niʿ'mata l-lahi kuf'ran wa-aḥallū qawmahum dāra l-bawār

جَهَنَّمَ یَصۡلَوۡنَهَاۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡقَرَارُ ۝٢٩

Hell, they will proceed to it, and evil (is their) settlement

jahannama yaṣlawnahā wabi'sa l-qarār

وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ أَندَادࣰا لِّیُضِلُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦۗ قُلۡ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ فَإِنَّ مَصِیرَكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ ۝٣٠

And they have set up rivals to Allah that they may mislead from His Path. Say: “Enjoy (your brief life). But certainly, your destination is to the Fire.”

wajaʿalū lillahi andādan liyuḍillū ʿan sabīlihi qul tamattaʿū fa-inna maṣīrakum ilā l-nār

قُل لِّعِبَادِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ یُقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَیُنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ سِرࣰّا وَعَلَانِیَةࣰ مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن یَأۡتِیَ یَوۡمࣱ لَّا بَیۡعࣱ فِیهِ وَلَا خِلَـٰلٌ ۝٣١

Say to Ibâdi (My subjects) who have Believed that they should establish Salât and spend out of the provisions We have given them, secretly and openly, before (the stage) that the Day comes where (there will be) no business activity and nor befriending

qul liʿibādiya alladhīna āmanū yuqīmū l-ṣalata wayunfiqū mimmā razaqnāhum sirran waʿalāniyatan min qabli an yatiya yawmun lā bayʿun fīhi walā khilālu

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَأَخۡرَجَ بِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ رِزۡقࣰا لَّكُمۡۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡفُلۡكَ لِتَجۡرِیَ فِی ٱلۡبَحۡرِ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرَ ۝٣٢

Allah is That Who created the heavens and the earth and brought down rain from towards the sky and thereby brought forth fruits as provisions for you, and He has controlled for you the ship so that it may sail in the sea under His Command and He has controlled for you the rivers

al-lahu alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wa-anzala mina l-samāi māan fa-akhraja bihi mina l-thamarāti riz'qan lakum wasakhara lakumu l-ful'ka litajriya fī l-baḥri bi-amrihi wasakhara lakumu l-anhār

وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَ دَاۤىِٕبَیۡنِۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّیۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ۝٣٣

And He has controlled for you the sun and the moon "two constantly and swiftly move (in space) And He has controlled for you the night and the day

wasakhara lakumu l-shamsa wal-qamara dāibayni wasakhara lakumu al-layla wal-nahār

وَءَاتَىٰكُم مِّن كُلِّ مَا سَأَلۡتُمُوهُۚ وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحۡصُوهَاۤۗ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَظَلُومࣱ كَفَّارࣱ ۝٣٤

And He gave you out of all items what you asked Him. And if you count the Blessings of Allah you will never (be able to) count them. Verily, man is indeed an extreme wrong-doer and an extreme disbeliever

waātākum min kulli mā sa-altumūhu wa-in taʿuddū niʿ'mata l-lahi lā tuḥ'ṣūhā inna l-insāna laẓalūmun kaffāru

6 Abraham's prayer

وَإِذۡ قَالَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ رَبِّ ٱجۡعَلۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدَ ءَامِنࣰا وَٱجۡنُبۡنِی وَبَنِیَّ أَن نَّعۡبُدَ ٱلۡأَصۡنَامَ ۝٣٥

And (bring to mind) when Ibrahim said: ‘My Nourisher-Sustainer! Establish this city-one of peace and tranquility, and protect me and my sons that we may worship idols

wa-idh qāla ib'rāhīmu rabbi ij'ʿal hādhā l-balada āminan wa-uj'nub'nī wabaniyya an naʿbuda l-aṣnām

رَبِّ إِنَّهُنَّ أَضۡلَلۡنَ كَثِیرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِۖ فَمَن تَبِعَنِی فَإِنَّهُۥ مِنِّیۖ وَمَنۡ عَصَانِی فَإِنَّكَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٣٦

My Nourisher-Sustainer! Indeed, they have misled the majority of mankind. So whoso follows me, then certainly, he is of me and whoso disobeyed me, then surely, you are Oft-Forgiving, continuously Merciful

rabbi innahunna aḍlalna kathīran mina l-nāsi faman tabiʿanī fa-innahu minnī waman ʿaṣānī fa-innaka ghafūrun raḥīmu

رَّبَّنَاۤ إِنِّیۤ أَسۡكَنتُ مِن ذُرِّیَّتِی بِوَادٍ غَیۡرِ ذِی زَرۡعٍ عِندَ بَیۡتِكَ ٱلۡمُحَرَّمِ رَبَّنَا لِیُقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱجۡعَلۡ أَفۡءِدَةࣰ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ تَهۡوِیۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡ وَٱرۡزُقۡهُم مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٣٧

Our Nourisher-Sustainer! Indeed, I have settled out of my offspring by the valley devoid of cultivation, close to your Sacred and Honoured House (i.e., Kaba at Makka). Our Nourisher-Sustainer, that they may establish As-Salat (and may lead the congregation to True, Original and Vibrant Islam as contained in Your Al-Kitab); so make the hearts of the people incline towards them and provide them sustenance from fruits in order that they may give thanks

rabbanā innī askantu min dhurriyyatī biwādin ghayri dhī zarʿin ʿinda baytika l-muḥarami rabbanā liyuqīmū l-ṣalata fa-ij'ʿal afidatan mina l-nāsi tahwī ilayhim wa-ur'zuq'hum mina l-thamarāti laʿallahum yashkurūn

رَبَّنَاۤ إِنَّكَ تَعۡلَمُ مَا نُخۡفِی وَمَا نُعۡلِنُۗ وَمَا یَخۡفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِن شَیۡءࣲ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ ۝٣٨

Our Nourisher-Sustainer! Certainly you know what we conceal and what we reveal. And does not remain hidden on Allah any thing in the earth and nor in the sky

rabbanā innaka taʿlamu mā nukh'fī wamā nuʿ'linu wamā yakhfā ʿalā l-lahi min shayin fī l-arḍi walā fī l-samā

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی وَهَبَ لِی عَلَى ٱلۡكِبَرِ إِسۡمَـٰعِیلَ وَإِسۡحَـٰقَۚ إِنَّ رَبِّی لَسَمِیعُ ٱلدُّعَاۤءِ ۝٣٩

Specified Praise suits Allah (Alone) Who bestowed for me, inspite of very old age, Ismaiel and Ishaque. Verily, my Nourisher-Sustainer is indeed All-Hearer of invocation

al-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī wahaba lī ʿalā l-kibari is'māʿīla wa-is'ḥāqa inna rabbī lasamīʿu l-duʿā

رَبِّ ٱجۡعَلۡنِی مُقِیمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّیَّتِیۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلۡ دُعَاۤءِ ۝٤٠

My Nourisher-Sustainer! Make me one who establishes Salât and also from my offspring, our Nourisher-Sustainer! And accept my invocation

rabbi ij'ʿalnī muqīma l-ṣalati wamin dhurriyyatī rabbanā wataqabbal duʿā

رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لِی وَلِوَ ٰلِدَیَّ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ یَوۡمَ یَقُومُ ٱلۡحِسَابُ ۝٤١

Our Nourisher-Sustainer! Bestow Forgiveness for me and for my parents and the Believers (at large) on the Day the Accountability-process gets established.”

rabbanā igh'fir lī waliwālidayya walil'mu'minīna yawma yaqūmu l-ḥisāb

7 End of Opposition

وَلَا تَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَـٰفِلًا عَمَّا یَعۡمَلُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَۚ إِنَّمَا یُؤَخِّرُهُمۡ لِیَوۡمࣲ تَشۡخَصُ فِیهِ ٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرُ ۝٤٢

Consider not that Allah is unaware of that what the transgressors do. Surely it is that He gives them respite upto a Day wherein the eyes will stare in horror

walā taḥsabanna l-laha ghāfilan ʿammā yaʿmalu l-ẓālimūna innamā yu-akhiruhum liyawmin tashkhaṣu fīhi l-abṣār

مُهۡطِعِینَ مُقۡنِعِی رُءُوسِهِمۡ لَا یَرۡتَدُّ إِلَیۡهِمۡ طَرۡفُهُمۡۖ وَأَفۡءِدَتُهُمۡ هَوَاۤءࣱ ۝٤٣

They will be those who run (out of fear and confusion), (those) who raise their heads, the outer edge of their eyes will not turn towards them (i.e., the eyes will remain wide-open and would avoid blinhead of state) and their hearts (and minds, utterly) void (due to extreme fear, completely unable to think or concentrate)

muh'ṭiʿīna muq'niʿī ruūsihim lā yartaddu ilayhim ṭarfuhum wa-afidatuhum hawāo

وَأَنذِرِ ٱلنَّاسَ یَوۡمَ یَأۡتِیهِمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ فَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ رَبَّنَاۤ أَخِّرۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلࣲ قَرِیبࣲ نُّجِبۡ دَعۡوَتَكَ وَنَتَّبِعِ ٱلرُّسُلَۗ أَوَ لَمۡ تَكُونُوۤا۟ أَقۡسَمۡتُم مِّن قَبۡلُ مَا لَكُم مِّن زَوَالࣲ ۝٤٤

And warn mankind of the Day when the torment approaches them; then those who transgressed (the limits set by Al-Kitâb) will say: “Our Nourisher-Sustainer! Give us respite for a little while, we will answer your call and follow the Messengers.” Have you not been: you swore aforetime (that there is) no coming down or fall for you

wa-andhiri l-nāsa yawma yatīhimu l-ʿadhābu fayaqūlu alladhīna ẓalamū rabbanā akhir'nā ilā ajalin qarībin nujib daʿwataka wanattabiʿi l-rusula awalam takūnū aqsamtum min qablu mā lakum min zawāli

وَسَكَنتُمۡ فِی مَسَـٰكِنِ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَتَبَیَّنَ لَكُمۡ كَیۡفَ فَعَلۡنَا بِهِمۡ وَضَرَبۡنَا لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَ ۝٤٥

And you (occupied and) stayed in the residential houses of those who wronged themselves and it has become plain to you how We dealt with them and We have brought forward for you many examples (of the destroyed nations)

wasakantum fī masākini alladhīna ẓalamū anfusahum watabayyana lakum kayfa faʿalnā bihim waḍarabnā lakumu l-amthāl

وَقَدۡ مَكَرُوا۟ مَكۡرَهُمۡ وَعِندَ ٱللَّهِ مَكۡرُهُمۡ وَإِن كَانَ مَكۡرُهُمۡ لِتَزُولَ مِنۡهُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ ۝٤٦

And indeed, they made their designs and, in surveillance of Allah are their designs (and plottings) and even though their stratagem (and mischievous plan be) that the mountains may shift (from their places) under (effect of) that

waqad makarū makrahum waʿinda l-lahi makruhum wa-in kāna makruhum litazūla min'hu l-jibāl

فَلَا تَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِفَ وَعۡدِهِۦ رُسُلَهُۥۤۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزࣱ ذُو ٱنتِقَامࣲ ۝٤٧

Then you must not regard Allah (as One) Who defies His (Own) Promise done to His Messengers. Surely, Allah is All-Mighty, Capable of tahead of state retribution

falā taḥsabanna l-laha mukh'lifa waʿdihi rusulahu inna l-laha ʿazīzun dhū intiqāmi

یَوۡمَ تُبَدَّلُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ غَیۡرَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتُۖ وَبَرَزُوا۟ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡوَ ٰحِدِ ٱلۡقَهَّارِ ۝٤٨

The Day the earth will be replaced (with) another earth and (also) the heavens; and they appeared before Allah, the One, the Irresistible

yawma tubaddalu l-arḍu ghayra l-arḍi wal-samāwātu wabarazū lillahi l-wāḥidi l-qahār

وَتَرَى ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ مُّقَرَّنِینَ فِی ٱلۡأَصۡفَادِ ۝٤٩

And you shall see the criminals on this Day bound in chains

watarā l-muj'rimīna yawma-idhin muqarranīna fī l-aṣfād

سَرَابِیلُهُم مِّن قَطِرَانࣲ وَتَغۡشَىٰ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ ۝٥٠

Their garments will be of sulphur or pitch, and fire will cover their faces

sarābīluhum min qaṭirānin wataghshā wujūhahumu l-nār

لِیَجۡزِیَ ٱللَّهُ كُلَّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّا كَسَبَتۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِیعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ۝٥١

That Allah may pay each person whatever that (nafs) earned. Truly, Allah is Swift in accountability

liyajziya l-lahu kulla nafsin mā kasabat inna l-laha sarīʿu l-ḥisāb

هَـٰذَا بَلَـٰغࣱ لِّلنَّاسِ وَلِیُنذَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَلِیَعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱ وَلِیَذَّكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝٥٢

This is Balag-hun-linnaas, in order that the people may be warned thereby and that they may know that whatever (is a fact is that) He is Ilâh, One and Alone; and that men of understanding may take heed (to remind themselves and to remind others)

hādhā balāghun lilnnāsi waliyundharū bihi waliyaʿlamū annamā huwa ilāhun wāḥidun waliyadhakkara ulū l-albāb
