1 Truth of Revelation

الۤمۤرۚ تِلۡكَ ءَایَـٰتُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِۗ وَٱلَّذِیۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١

A. L. M. R. These are the Signs in Al-Kitâb. And that which has been sent to you from your Nourisher-Sustainer is the Truth, but the majority of mankind do not believe

alif-lam-meem-ra til'ka āyātu l-kitābi wa-alladhī unzila ilayka min rabbika l-ḥaqu walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yu'minūn

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی رَفَعَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ بِغَیۡرِ عَمَدࣲ تَرَوۡنَهَاۖ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِۖ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ كُلࣱّ یَجۡرِی لِأَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّىۚ یُدَبِّرُ ٱلۡأَمۡرَ یُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لَعَلَّكُم بِلِقَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمۡ تُوقِنُونَ ۝٢

Allah is That Who raised the heavens without a pillar which you may see, then He set (Himself) over the throne. And He has controlled the sun and the moon. All (these) move (in space) for an appointed term. He regulates the affair (and) He gives details to Ayaât so that you may develop deep Faith regarding the meeting with your Nourisher-Sustainer

al-lahu alladhī rafaʿa l-samāwāti bighayri ʿamadin tarawnahā thumma is'tawā ʿalā l-ʿarshi wasakhara l-shamsa wal-qamara kullun yajrī li-ajalin musamman yudabbiru l-amra yufaṣṣilu l-āyāti laʿallakum biliqāi rabbikum tūqinūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی مَدَّ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَجَعَلَ فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣰاۖ وَمِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ جَعَلَ فِیهَا زَوۡجَیۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِۖ یُغۡشِی ٱلَّیۡلَ ٱلنَّهَارَۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝٣

And He it is Who spread out the earth and placed therein firm mountains and rivers; and out of all kinds of fruits, He made therein Zawjain Isnain [two (different) in sex; two (different in types)]. He shadows the night over the day. Surely, in this are indeed signs for the nation who think and ponder

wahuwa alladhī madda l-arḍa wajaʿala fīhā rawāsiya wa-anhāran wamin kulli l-thamarāti jaʿala fīhā zawjayni ith'nayni yugh'shī al-layla l-nahāra inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yatafakkarūn

وَفِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ قِطَعࣱ مُّتَجَـٰوِرَ ٰتࣱ وَجَنَّـٰتࣱ مِّنۡ أَعۡنَـٰبࣲ وَزَرۡعࣱ وَنَخِیلࣱ صِنۡوَانࣱ وَغَیۡرُ صِنۡوَانࣲ یُسۡقَىٰ بِمَاۤءࣲ وَ ٰحِدࣲ وَنُفَضِّلُ بَعۡضَهَا عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ فِی ٱلۡأُكُلِۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٤

And on the land are regions interconnected (but different in nature), and gardens of grapes, and fields sown with every kind of corn and date-palms having single roots and not single (but multiple or intermingled) roots. This is made to suck one (single type of) water, yet We make superior some of them over some (others) in taste. Definitely, in this are indeed signs for a nation who use intellect

wafī l-arḍi qiṭaʿun mutajāwirātun wajannātun min aʿnābin wazarʿun wanakhīlun ṣin'wānun waghayru ṣin'wānin yus'qā bimāin wāḥidin wanufaḍḍilu baʿḍahā ʿalā baʿḍin fī l-ukuli inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yaʿqilūn

۞ وَإِن تَعۡجَبۡ فَعَجَبࣱ قَوۡلُهُمۡ أَءِذَا كُنَّا تُرَ ٰبًا أَءِنَّا لَفِی خَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدٍۗ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمۡۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلۡأَغۡلَـٰلُ فِیۤ أَعۡنَاقِهِمۡۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِۖ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٥

And if you wonder, then wondrous is their statement: “What! When we have become dust, shall we surely be indeed in a new creation?” These (had been) those who have disbelieved in their Nourisher-Sustainer and these (are the ones who shall have) shackles round their necks, and they (shall be) inmates of the Fire. They shall be dwellers therein

wa-in taʿjab faʿajabun qawluhum a-idhā kunnā turāban a-innā lafī khalqin jadīdin ulāika alladhīna kafarū birabbihim wa-ulāika l-aghlālu fī aʿnāqihim wa-ulāika aṣḥābu l-nāri hum fīhā khālidūn

وَیَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَكَ بِٱلسَّیِّئَةِ قَبۡلَ ٱلۡحَسَنَةِ وَقَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِهِمُ ٱلۡمَثُلَـٰتُۗ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغۡفِرَةࣲ لِّلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ ظُلۡمِهِمۡۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٦

And they approach you in haste, committing evil before (committing) any good. And surely, have passed away before them (many) examples (of transgressing nations). And verily, your Nourisher-Sustainer is full of Forgiveness for mankind inspite of their wrong-doing. And verily, your Nourisher-Sustainer is surely severe in retribution

wayastaʿjilūnaka bil-sayi-ati qabla l-ḥasanati waqad khalat min qablihimu l-mathulātu wa-inna rabbaka ladhū maghfiratin lilnnāsi ʿalā ẓul'mihim wa-inna rabbaka lashadīdu l-ʿiqāb

وَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡهِ ءَایَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۤۗ إِنَّمَاۤ أَنتَ مُنذِرࣱۖ وَلِكُلِّ قَوۡمٍ هَادٍ ۝٧

And the disbelievers say: ‘Why not has been sent to him a sign from his Nourisher-Sustainer?” No doubt, you are a warner. And to each and every nation (there has to be) a guide

wayaqūlu alladhīna kafarū lawlā unzila ʿalayhi āyatun min rabbihi innamā anta mundhirun walikulli qawmin hādi

2 Fall and Rise of Nations

ٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ مَا تَحۡمِلُ كُلُّ أُنثَىٰ وَمَا تَغِیضُ ٱلۡأَرۡحَامُ وَمَا تَزۡدَادُۚ وَكُلُّ شَیۡءٍ عِندَهُۥ بِمِقۡدَارٍ ۝٨

Allah knows what every female holds (in her belly or womb) and how much the wombs constrict and how much they expand. And all things with Him are according to set requirements

al-lahu yaʿlamu mā taḥmilu kullu unthā wamā taghīḍu l-arḥāmu wamā tazdādu wakullu shayin ʿindahu bimiq'dāri

عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ ٱلۡكَبِیرُ ٱلۡمُتَعَالِ ۝٩

Knower of the hidden and the seen, the Greatest, the Supreme in Highness

sawāon minkum man asarra l-qawla waman jahara bihi waman huwa mus'takhfin bi-al-layli wasāribun bil-nahār

سَوَاۤءࣱ مِّنكُم مَّنۡ أَسَرَّ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ وَمَن جَهَرَ بِهِۦ وَمَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡتَخۡفِۭ بِٱلَّیۡلِ وَسَارِبُۢ بِٱلنَّهَارِ ۝١٠

(To Him, are) equal amongst you that who concealed the statement and that who declared it openly; and that — he is hidden by night and that who moves openly by the day

Sawaon minkum man asarra alqawla waman jahara bihi waman huwa mustakhfin biallayli wasaribun bialnnahari

لَهُۥ مُعَقِّبَـٰتࣱ مِّنۢ بَیۡنِ یَدَیۡهِ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِۦ یَحۡفَظُونَهُۥ مِنۡ أَمۡرِ ٱللَّهِۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُغَیِّرُ مَا بِقَوۡمٍ حَتَّىٰ یُغَیِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمۡۗ وَإِذَاۤ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِقَوۡمࣲ سُوۤءࣰا فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥۚ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ مِن وَالٍ ۝١١

For him, there are (angel-) escorts inbetween his two hands (i.e., exactly on his front, just like a body-shield) and on his back. They guard him under command of Allah. Verily, Allah does not substitute whatever is in possession of a nation until they (themselves) substitute whatever is in possession of their selves. And when Allah intended about a nation (to inflict them with) evil, then there is not a way of return for this (punishment), and there is not for them, besides Him, out of a Protector

lahu muʿaqqibātun min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi yaḥfaẓūnahu min amri l-lahi inna l-laha lā yughayyiru mā biqawmin ḥattā yughayyirū mā bi-anfusihim wa-idhā arāda l-lahu biqawmin sūan falā maradda lahu wamā lahum min dūnihi min wāli

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُرِیكُمُ ٱلۡبَرۡقَ خَوۡفࣰا وَطَمَعࣰا وَیُنشِئُ ٱلسَّحَابَ ٱلثِّقَالَ ۝١٢

He it is Who shows you the heavenly lightning, being a sign of fear as well as hope. And He originates the clouds becoming heavy (being laden with water)

huwa alladhī yurīkumu l-barqa khawfan waṭamaʿan wayunshi-u l-saḥāba l-thiqāl

وَیُسَبِّحُ ٱلرَّعۡدُ بِحَمۡدِهِۦ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ مِنۡ خِیفَتِهِۦ وَیُرۡسِلُ ٱلصَّوَ ٰعِقَ فَیُصِیبُ بِهَا مَن یَشَاۤءُ وَهُمۡ یُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِی ٱللَّهِ وَهُوَ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡمِحَالِ ۝١٣

And Ar-Râ‘d (The Thunder) swiftly glorifies (Him) with His Praise as well as the angels out of fear to Him, and He sends the thunder-bolts alongwith lightnings and He reaches (smiting) therewith whom He thinks proper; yet they dispute concerning Allah, while He is powerfully strong in punishment

wayusabbiḥu l-raʿdu biḥamdihi wal-malāikatu min khīfatihi wayur'silu l-ṣawāʿiqa fayuṣību bihā man yashāu wahum yujādilūna fī l-lahi wahuwa shadīdu l-miḥāl

لَهُۥ دَعۡوَةُ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ یَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا یَسۡتَجِیبُونَ لَهُم بِشَیۡءٍ إِلَّا كَبَـٰسِطِ كَفَّیۡهِ إِلَى ٱلۡمَاۤءِ لِیَبۡلُغَ فَاهُ وَمَا هُوَ بِبَـٰلِغِهِۦۚ وَمَا دُعَاۤءُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ إِلَّا فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ ۝١٤

For Him (Alone) is the rightful invocking. And those whom they invoke besides Him, they respond them not in any form except like one who stretches forth his two palms in the direction of the water so that it (itself) may reach his mouth although it will not be one that reaches it. And the invocation of the disbelievers is not but in complete deviation (from the fruitful path)

lahu daʿwatu l-ḥaqi wa-alladhīna yadʿūna min dūnihi lā yastajībūna lahum bishayin illā kabāsiṭi kaffayhi ilā l-māi liyablugha fāhu wamā huwa bibālighihi wamā duʿāu l-kāfirīna illā fī ḍalāli

وَ̅لِ̅لَّ̅هِ̅ ̅یَ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ طَوۡعࣰا وَكَرۡهࣰا وَظِلَـٰلُهُم بِٱلۡغُدُوِّ وَٱلۡءَاصَالِ ۝١٥ ۩

And unto Allah (Alone) submits whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly; and (so do) their shadows in the morning and in the evenings

walillahi yasjudu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi ṭawʿan wakarhan waẓilāluhum bil-ghuduwi wal-āṣāl

قُلۡ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ قُلِ ٱللَّهُۚ قُلۡ أَفَٱتَّخَذۡتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦۤ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ لَا یَمۡلِكُونَ لِأَنفُسِهِمۡ نَفۡعࣰا وَلَا ضَرࣰّاۚ قُلۡ هَلۡ یَسۡتَوِی ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ وَٱلۡبَصِیرُ أَمۡ هَلۡ تَسۡتَوِی ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُ وَٱلنُّورُۗ أَمۡ جَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاۤءَ خَلَقُوا۟ كَخَلۡقِهِۦ فَتَشَـٰبَهَ ٱلۡخَلۡقُ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ خَـٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَهُوَ ٱلۡوَ ٰحِدُ ٱلۡقَهَّـٰرُ ۝١٦

Say: "Who is the Nourisher-Sustainer for the heavens and the earth? ” Say “(It is) Allah.” Say: “Have you then picked up ‘auliya’ other than Him, (such as) do not possess for themselves (any) benefit and nor (any) harm?” Say: “Do the blind and the one who can see fully become equal? Or whether the darknesses and the light become equal?” Or whether they have assigned to Allah partners who created the like of His creation; then the creation (of these two sources, i.e., Allah and their imaginary deities) brought confusion of similarity over them? Say: “Allah is the Creator of all things and He is the One, the Irresistible.”

qul man rabbu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi quli l-lahu qul afa-ittakhadhtum min dūnihi awliyāa lā yamlikūna li-anfusihim nafʿan walā ḍarran qul hal yastawī l-aʿmā wal-baṣīru am hal tastawī l-ẓulumātu wal-nūru am jaʿalū lillahi shurakāa khalaqū kakhalqihi fatashābaha l-khalqu ʿalayhim quli l-lahu khāliqu kulli shayin wahuwa l-wāḥidu l-qahār

أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَسَالَتۡ أَوۡدِیَةُۢ بِقَدَرِهَا فَٱحۡتَمَلَ ٱلسَّیۡلُ زَبَدࣰا رَّابِیࣰاۖ وَمِمَّا یُوقِدُونَ عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلنَّارِ ٱبۡتِغَاۤءَ حِلۡیَةٍ أَوۡ مَتَـٰعࣲ زَبَدࣱ مِّثۡلُهُۥۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَضۡرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَٱلۡبَـٰطِلَۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلزَّبَدُ فَیَذۡهَبُ جُفَاۤءࣰۖ وَأَمَّا مَا یَنفَعُ ٱلنَّاسَ فَیَمۡكُثُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَضۡرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَ ۝١٧

He sent down water from the direction of the sky, then the valleys overflowed according to their capacity.Then the flowing gush of water held the foam that rises up; and (also) from that (ore which) people subject to heat in the fire seehead of state ornaments or (other) possessions (comes out) a foam similar to it. Thus Allah illustrates the truth and the falsehood. Then as to the useless foam, it disappears out as scum (along the banks), while as to that which benefits mankind, it settles down on the earth. Thus Allah sets forth parables

anzala mina l-samāi māan fasālat awdiyatun biqadarihā fa-iḥ'tamala l-saylu zabadan rābiyan wamimmā yūqidūna ʿalayhi fī l-nāri ib'tighāa ḥil'yatin aw matāʿin zabadun mith'luhu kadhālika yaḍribu l-lahu l-ḥaqa wal-bāṭila fa-ammā l-zabadu fayadhhabu jufāan wa-ammā mā yanfaʿu l-nāsa fayamkuthu fī l-arḍi kadhālika yaḍribu l-lahu l-amthāl

لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَجَابُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ لَمۡ یَسۡتَجِیبُوا۟ لَهُۥ لَوۡ أَنَّ لَهُم مَّا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِیعࣰا وَمِثۡلَهُۥ مَعَهُۥ لَٱفۡتَدَوۡا۟ بِهِۦۤۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ سُوۤءُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمِهَادُ ۝١٨

For those who responded to their Nourisher-Sustainer is (eternal) bliss. And those who did not respond to Him, if for them is whatever is in the earth together and the like of it along with it, they would have ransomed themselves therewith. It is those: for them is an evil reckoning and their abode is Hell. What an evil place of rest

lilladhīna is'tajābū lirabbihimu l-ḥus'nā wa-alladhīna lam yastajībū lahu law anna lahum mā fī l-arḍi jamīʿan wamith'lahu maʿahu la-if'tadaw bihi ulāika lahum sūu l-ḥisābi wamawāhum jahannamu wabi'sa l-mihād

3 Good and Evil bear Reward

۞ أَفَمَن یَعۡلَمُ أَنَّمَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ٱلۡحَقُّ كَمَنۡ هُوَ أَعۡمَىٰۤۚ إِنَّمَا یَتَذَكَّرُ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝١٩

Shall he then, who knows that what has been sent unto you from your Nourisher-Sustainer is the Truth, be like him who is blind? Certainly it is, that the men of understanding pay heed

afaman yaʿlamu annamā unzila ilayka min rabbika l-ḥaqu kaman huwa aʿmā innamā yatadhakkaru ulū l-albāb

ٱلَّذِینَ یُوفُونَ بِعَهۡدِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا یَنقُضُونَ ٱلۡمِیثَـٰقَ ۝٢٠

Those who fulfil the covenant made with Allah and break not the Misâq

alladhīna yūfūna biʿahdi l-lahi walā yanquḍūna l-mīthāq

وَٱلَّذِینَ یَصِلُونَ مَاۤ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦۤ أَن یُوصَلَ وَیَخۡشَوۡنَ رَبَّهُمۡ وَیَخَافُونَ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ۝٢١

and those who join what Allah has commanded thereof that it shall be joined (this refers to the bonds of kinship, wombs and faith), and they show sincerity with their Nourisher-Sustainer and dread badness of Accountability

wa-alladhīna yaṣilūna mā amara l-lahu bihi an yūṣala wayakhshawna rabbahum wayakhāfūna sūa l-ḥisāb

وَٱلَّذِینَ صَبَرُوا۟ ٱبۡتِغَاۤءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَنفَقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ سِرࣰّا وَعَلَانِیَةࣰ وَیَدۡرَءُونَ بِٱلۡحَسَنَةِ ٱلسَّیِّئَةَ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ عُقۡبَى ٱلدَّارِ ۝٢٢

and those who exhibited patience in seehead of state the attention of their Nourisher-Sustainer and they established Salat and they spent from what we bestowed them in provision, secretly and openly, and they control the evil through good, they are the people: for them (is) the final (good) of the House (of abode) —

wa-alladhīna ṣabarū ib'tighāa wajhi rabbihim wa-aqāmū l-ṣalata wa-anfaqū mimmā razaqnāhum sirran waʿalāniyatan wayadraūna bil-ḥasanati l-sayi-ata ulāika lahum ʿuq'bā l-dār

جَنَّـٰتُ عَدۡنࣲ یَدۡخُلُونَهَا وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنۡ ءَابَاۤىِٕهِمۡ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجِهِمۡ وَذُرِّیَّـٰتِهِمۡۖ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَدۡخُلُونَ عَلَیۡهِم مِّن كُلِّ بَابࣲ ۝٢٣

everlasting gardens. They shall enter therein, and (also) that who became righteous from among their ascendants, and their spouses, and their descendents. And angels shall enter unto them from every entrance (saying)

jannātu ʿadnin yadkhulūnahā waman ṣalaḥa min ābāihim wa-azwājihim wadhurriyyātihim wal-malāikatu yadkhulūna ʿalayhim min kulli bābi

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَیۡكُم بِمَا صَبَرۡتُمۡۚ فَنِعۡمَ عُقۡبَى ٱلدَّارِ ۝٢٤

“Salamun Alaikum (peace be upon you) for you showed patience. How excellent is the final (good) of the House (of final abode)!”

salāmun ʿalaykum bimā ṣabartum faniʿ'ma ʿuq'bā l-dār

وَٱلَّذِینَ یَنقُضُونَ عَهۡدَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مِیثَـٰقِهِۦ وَیَقۡطَعُونَ مَاۤ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦۤ أَن یُوصَلَ وَیُفۡسِدُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمُ ٱللَّعۡنَةُ وَلَهُمۡ سُوۤءُ ٱلدَّارِ ۝٢٥

And those who break the covenant made with Allah after its ratification and cut off that what Allah has commanded thereof that it shall be kept joined, and they (also) do mischief in the land, they are the people: for them is the curse and for them is the evil in residence

wa-alladhīna yanquḍūna ʿahda l-lahi min baʿdi mīthāqihi wayaqṭaʿūna mā amara l-lahu bihi an yūṣala wayuf'sidūna fī l-arḍi ulāika lahumu l-laʿnatu walahum sūu l-dār

ٱللَّهُ یَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَقۡدِرُۚ وَفَرِحُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَمَا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَا فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ إِلَّا مَتَـٰعࣱ ۝٢٦

Allah increases (beyond needs) the provisions for whom He wills, and keeps within the required minimum (for whom He wills). And they rejoiced in the life of this world, whereas the life of this world as compared to the Hereafter is not but just a brief passing enjoyment

al-lahu yabsuṭu l-riz'qa liman yashāu wayaqdiru wafariḥū bil-ḥayati l-dun'yā wamā l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā fī l-ākhirati illā matāʿu

4 Revolution to be brought about by Qur'an

وَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡهِ ءَایَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُضِلُّ مَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَهۡدِیۤ إِلَیۡهِ مَنۡ أَنَابَ ۝٢٧

And those who have disbelieved say: “Why has not a sign been sent down to him from his Nourisher-Sustainer?” Say: “Verily, Allah sends astray whom He thinks proper, and guides unto Himself who turned (to Him in repentance).”

wayaqūlu alladhīna kafarū lawlā unzila ʿalayhi āyatun min rabbihi qul inna l-laha yuḍillu man yashāu wayahdī ilayhi man anāb

ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَطۡمَىِٕنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِۗ أَلَا بِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطۡمَىِٕنُّ ٱلۡقُلُوبُ ۝٢٨

Those who have Believed and their hearts do find tranquility and satisfaction through Zikr ('Message') coming from Allah. Behold! Through Zikr coming from Allah do hearts find tranquility and satisfaction

alladhīna āmanū wataṭma-innu qulūbuhum bidhik'ri l-lahi alā bidhik'ri l-lahi taṭma-innu l-qulūb

ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ طُوبَىٰ لَهُمۡ وَحُسۡنُ مَءَابࣲ ۝٢٩

Those who have Believed and did righteous deeds: for them is Tûba and the beauty of the place of (final) return

alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti ṭūbā lahum waḥus'nu maābi

كَذَ ٰلِكَ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ فِیۤ أُمَّةࣲ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِهَاۤ أُمَمࣱ لِّتَتۡلُوَا۟ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ وَهُمۡ یَكۡفُرُونَ بِٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِۚ قُلۡ هُوَ رَبِّی لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَیۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُ وَإِلَیۡهِ مَتَابِ ۝٣٠

Thus We sent you to a community, indeed have passed away before this many communities — in order that you may recite unto them what We have delivered you through inspiration, although they disbelieve in Ar-Rahmân (The Bestower of unlimited mercy). Say: “He is my Nourisher-Sustainer Lâ ilâha illâ Huwa (No god, except He). In Him I have put my trust and unto Him lies my centre of repentance.

kadhālika arsalnāka fī ummatin qad khalat min qablihā umamun litatluwā ʿalayhimu alladhī awḥaynā ilayka wahum yakfurūna bil-raḥmāni qul huwa rabbī lā ilāha illā huwa ʿalayhi tawakkaltu wa-ilayhi matāb

وَلَوۡ أَنَّ قُرۡءَانࣰا سُیِّرَتۡ بِهِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ أَوۡ قُطِّعَتۡ بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ أَوۡ كُلِّمَ بِهِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰۗ بَل لِّلَّهِ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ جَمِیعًاۗ أَفَلَمۡ یَا۟یۡءَسِ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَن لَّوۡ یَشَاۤءُ ٱللَّهُ لَهَدَى ٱلنَّاسَ جَمِیعࣰاۗ وَلَا یَزَالُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ تُصِیبُهُم بِمَا صَنَعُوا۟ قَارِعَةٌ أَوۡ تَحُلُّ قَرِیبࣰا مِّن دَارِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ یَأۡتِیَ وَعۡدُ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُخۡلِفُ ٱلۡمِیعَادَ ۝٣١

And if (it is) that there is a Quran, mountains have been moved thereby (e.g., the incidents described in Verse No:7/143), or the earth was cloven asunder thereby (e.g., the incidents discussed in Verses No: 2/60 7/160), or the dead one has been made to speak thereby [e.g., the incidents narrated in Verses No: 2/73,260 3/49 5/110- (it is none but this very Quran!)] Nay! The command to all extent is with Allah (Alone). Have they who have Believed not realised that if Allah thinks proper He would have surely guided the entire mankind? And those who have disbelieved shall not stop (it). Qariah (disaster) shall reach them because of what they have forged or it will befall close to their home until the Promise of Allah comes (into action). Certainly, Allah does not defy the promised one

walaw anna qur'ānan suyyirat bihi l-jibālu aw quṭṭiʿat bihi l-arḍu aw kullima bihi l-mawtā bal lillahi l-amru jamīʿan afalam yāy'asi alladhīna āmanū an law yashāu l-lahu lahadā l-nāsa jamīʿan walā yazālu alladhīna kafarū tuṣībuhum bimā ṣanaʿū qāriʿatun aw taḥullu qarīban min dārihim ḥattā yatiya waʿdu l-lahi inna l-laha lā yukh'lifu l-mīʿād

5 Opposition will fail

وَلَقَدِ ٱسۡتُهۡزِئَ بِرُسُلࣲ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَأَمۡلَیۡتُ لِلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ثُمَّ أَخَذۡتُهُمۡۖ فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ ۝٣٢

And indeed, the Messengers were ridiculed before you.Then I granted respite to those who disbelieved. Finally I seized them. Then how (terrible and extreme) was My retribution

walaqadi us'tuh'zi-a birusulin min qablika fa-amlaytu lilladhīna kafarū thumma akhadhtuhum fakayfa kāna ʿiqāb

أَفَمَنۡ هُوَ قَاۤىِٕمٌ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡۗ وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاۤءَ قُلۡ سَمُّوهُمۡۚ أَمۡ تُنَبِّءُونَهُۥ بِمَا لَا یَعۡلَمُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَم بِظَـٰهِرࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِۗ بَلۡ زُیِّنَ لِلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مَكۡرُهُمۡ وَصُدُّوا۟ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِیلِۗ وَمَن یُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡ هَادࣲ ۝٣٣

Is then That One (just a partner in controlling the dominion of the universe?) He is Surveillant over all persons about what they did. And they have assigned partners to Allah. Say: “Allot them their titles (or attributes in accordance to their functions.) Do you inform Him of something He knows not in the earth (since He has absolutely no partners in His Dominion, or you are befooling people) through the apparent in the statement?” Nay! Their stratagem who have disbelieved has been made fair-seeming to them and they have been hindered from the path. And whom Allah sends astray, then there is none out of a guide for him

afaman huwa qāimun ʿalā kulli nafsin bimā kasabat wajaʿalū lillahi shurakāa qul sammūhum am tunabbiūnahu bimā lā yaʿlamu fī l-arḍi am biẓāhirin mina l-qawli bal zuyyina lilladhīna kafarū makruhum waṣuddū ʿani l-sabīli waman yuḍ'lili l-lahu famā lahu min hādi

لَّهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ أَشَقُّۖ وَمَا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَاقࣲ ۝٣٤

For them is punishment in the life of this world and surely, the punishment of the Hereafter (will be) more severe. And (there is) not for them besides Allah, (any) of the protector

lahum ʿadhābun fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā walaʿadhābu l-ākhirati ashaqqu wamā lahum mina l-lahi min wāqi

۞ مَّثَلُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِی وُعِدَ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَۖ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُۖ أُكُلُهَا دَاۤىِٕمࣱ وَظِلُّهَاۚ تِلۡكَ عُقۡبَى ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّقَوا۟ۚ وَّعُقۡبَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ٱلنَّارُ ۝٣٥

The description of the Paradise which the muttaqûn have been promised: flow underneath it rivers, its fruit is everlasting as well as its shade. This is the final end (or final destination) of those who remained obedient; and the final end of the disbelievers is Fire

mathalu l-janati allatī wuʿida l-mutaqūna tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru ukuluhā dāimun waẓilluhā til'ka ʿuq'bā alladhīna ittaqaw waʿuq'bā l-kāfirīna l-nār

وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ یَفۡرَحُونَ بِمَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابِ مَن یُنكِرُ بَعۡضَهُۥۚ قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَعۡبُدَ ٱللَّهَ وَلَاۤ أُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦۤۚ إِلَیۡهِ أَدۡعُوا۟ وَإِلَیۡهِ مَءَابِ ۝٣٦

And those whom We have given Al-Kitâb rejoice at what has been sent to you. And out of Al-Ahzâb [the sectarian groups (See Verses No: 30/31,32 & 23/52,53 where its singular i.e., Hizb, has been used)] there is that person who rejects some of it. Say: “Surely it is (that) I have been commanded that I pay obedience to Allah and I do not assign partners to Him. To Him I invite (and give a call) and unto Him is my centre of return.

wa-alladhīna ātaynāhumu l-kitāba yafraḥūna bimā unzila ilayka wamina l-aḥzābi man yunkiru baʿḍahu qul innamā umir'tu an aʿbuda l-laha walā ush'rika bihi ilayhi adʿū wa-ilayhi maāb

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ حُكۡمًا عَرَبِیࣰّاۚ وَلَىِٕنِ ٱتَّبَعۡتَ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُم بَعۡدَ مَا جَاۤءَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ مَا لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِیࣲّ وَلَا وَاقࣲ ۝٣٧

And thus We sent it down (to be) Hukman Arabiyyan. And if you did follow their vain desires after what came to you out of Knowledge, there is not for you, against Allah, out of a protector and nor a defender

wakadhālika anzalnāhu ḥuk'man ʿarabiyyan wala-ini ittabaʿta ahwāahum baʿdamā jāaka mina l-ʿil'mi mā laka mina l-lahi min waliyyin walā wāqi

6 Steady Progress of Truth

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلࣰا مِّن قَبۡلِكَ وَجَعَلۡنَا لَهُمۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا وَذُرِّیَّةࣰۚ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَن یَأۡتِیَ بِءَایَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۗ لِكُلِّ أَجَلࣲ كِتَابࣱ ۝٣٨

And indeed, We have sent Messengers before you and We provided for them spouses and offspring. And it happened not with any Messenger that he may approach with a sign except under permission of Allah. For all periods is (One) Book

walaqad arsalnā rusulan min qablika wajaʿalnā lahum azwājan wadhurriyyatan wamā kāna lirasūlin an yatiya biāyatin illā bi-idh'ni l-lahi likulli ajalin kitābu

یَمۡحُوا۟ ٱللَّهُ مَا یَشَاۤءُ وَیُثۡبِتُۖ وَعِندَهُۥۤ أُمُّ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ ۝٣٩

Allah removes (from memory) what He thinks proper and keeps protected or intact (in memory) what He thinks proper. And with Him is the Ultimate Source of Al-Kitâb

yamḥū l-lahu mā yashāu wayuth'bitu waʿindahu ummu l-kitāb

وَإِن مَّا نُرِیَنَّكَ بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِی نَعِدُهُمۡ أَوۡ نَتَوَفَّیَنَّكَ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَیۡكَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ وَعَلَیۡنَا ٱلۡحِسَابُ ۝٤٠

And whether We show you that — part of what We promise them or We cause you to die, so surely in (either case) over you is the responsibility of propagation and on Us is the Accountability

wa-in mā nuriyannaka baʿḍa alladhī naʿiduhum aw natawaffayannaka fa-innamā ʿalayka l-balāghu waʿalaynā l-ḥisāb

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّا نَأۡتِی ٱلۡأَرۡضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنۡ أَطۡرَافِهَاۚ وَٱللَّهُ یَحۡكُمُ لَا مُعَقِّبَ لِحُكۡمِهِۦۚ وَهُوَ سَرِیعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ۝٤١

Did they not then see that we bring the land (gradually, in control of others)? We reduce it along its outer borders (thus decreasing the area in control of the disbelievers). And Allah takes decision. There is no one who can put back His Judgement. And He is Swift in Accountability (or Reckoning)

awalam yaraw annā natī l-arḍa nanquṣuhā min aṭrāfihā wal-lahu yaḥkumu lā muʿaqqiba liḥuk'mihi wahuwa sarīʿu l-ḥisāb

وَقَدۡ مَكَرَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡمَكۡرُ جَمِیعࣰاۖ یَعۡلَمُ مَا تَكۡسِبُ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲۗ وَسَیَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡكُفَّـٰرُ لِمَنۡ عُقۡبَى ٱلدَّارِ ۝٤٢

And verily, those before them did indulge in plotting (against Islam), but all planning is for Allah (to survey and counteract). He knows what every person earns. And very soon the disbelievers come to know for whom is (very favourable) the final one as the residence

waqad makara alladhīna min qablihim falillahi l-makru jamīʿan yaʿlamu mā taksibu kullu nafsin wasayaʿlamu l-kufāru liman ʿuq'bā l-dār

وَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَسۡتَ مُرۡسَلࣰاۚ قُلۡ كَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِیدَۢا بَیۡنِی وَبَیۡنَكُمۡ وَمَنۡ عِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ ۝٤٣

And say those who disbelieved: “You are not a sent-one.” Say: “It became sufficient for Allah to be a Witness between me and between you, and that one (also) with whom is the knowledge of Al-Kitâb

wayaqūlu alladhīna kafarū lasta mur'salan qul kafā bil-lahi shahīdan baynī wabaynakum waman ʿindahu ʿil'mu l-kitāb
