1 Truth of Revelation

الۤمۤرۚ تِلۡكَ ءَایَـٰتُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِۗ وَٱلَّذِیۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١

Alif Lam Mim Ra. Those are the verses of the book and what has been revealed unto you from your Lord is the truth but most mankind does not believe.

alif-lam-meem-ra til'ka āyātu l-kitābi wa-alladhī unzila ilayka min rabbika l-ḥaqu walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yu'minūn

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی رَفَعَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ بِغَیۡرِ عَمَدࣲ تَرَوۡنَهَاۖ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِۖ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ كُلࣱّ یَجۡرِی لِأَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّىۚ یُدَبِّرُ ٱلۡأَمۡرَ یُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لَعَلَّكُم بِلِقَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمۡ تُوقِنُونَ ۝٢

Allah it is He who raised the heavens without the pillars that you see and then established His presence over the throne and He caused the sun and the moon to obediently run [their course]. Each is running for an appointed term. He pronounces the commandment, details the signs so that perhaps you may have certitude about meeting your Lord.

al-lahu alladhī rafaʿa l-samāwāti bighayri ʿamadin tarawnahā thumma is'tawā ʿalā l-ʿarshi wasakhara l-shamsa wal-qamara kullun yajrī li-ajalin musamman yudabbiru l-amra yufaṣṣilu l-āyāti laʿallakum biliqāi rabbikum tūqinūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی مَدَّ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَجَعَلَ فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣰاۖ وَمِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ جَعَلَ فِیهَا زَوۡجَیۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِۖ یُغۡشِی ٱلَّیۡلَ ٱلنَّهَارَۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝٣

It is He who spread the earth and placed therein mountains and rivers and from every fruit He made two pairs. He causes the night to cover the day. In that indeed there are signs for a people who reflect.

wahuwa alladhī madda l-arḍa wajaʿala fīhā rawāsiya wa-anhāran wamin kulli l-thamarāti jaʿala fīhā zawjayni ith'nayni yugh'shī al-layla l-nahāra inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yatafakkarūn

وَفِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ قِطَعࣱ مُّتَجَـٰوِرَ ٰتࣱ وَجَنَّـٰتࣱ مِّنۡ أَعۡنَـٰبࣲ وَزَرۡعࣱ وَنَخِیلࣱ صِنۡوَانࣱ وَغَیۡرُ صِنۡوَانࣲ یُسۡقَىٰ بِمَاۤءࣲ وَ ٰحِدࣲ وَنُفَضِّلُ بَعۡضَهَا عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ فِی ٱلۡأُكُلِۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٤

And in the earth are neighbouring pieces of land and gardens of vines and crops and date trees, similar and dissimilar. They are all watered with one water but We do make some exceed in taste than others. In that indeed there are signs for a people who understand.

wafī l-arḍi qiṭaʿun mutajāwirātun wajannātun min aʿnābin wazarʿun wanakhīlun ṣin'wānun waghayru ṣin'wānin yus'qā bimāin wāḥidin wanufaḍḍilu baʿḍahā ʿalā baʿḍin fī l-ukuli inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yaʿqilūn

۞ وَإِن تَعۡجَبۡ فَعَجَبࣱ قَوۡلُهُمۡ أَءِذَا كُنَّا تُرَ ٰبًا أَءِنَّا لَفِی خَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدٍۗ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمۡۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلۡأَغۡلَـٰلُ فِیۤ أَعۡنَاقِهِمۡۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِۖ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٥

If you were to wonder then wonder at their saying, “If we were reduced to dust are we for sure be brought out in a new creation?” Those are the ones who disbelieved in their Lord. It is they who carry fetters around their necks and it is they who will be companions of the fire to abide therein forever.

wa-in taʿjab faʿajabun qawluhum a-idhā kunnā turāban a-innā lafī khalqin jadīdin ulāika alladhīna kafarū birabbihim wa-ulāika l-aghlālu fī aʿnāqihim wa-ulāika aṣḥābu l-nāri hum fīhā khālidūn

وَیَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَكَ بِٱلسَّیِّئَةِ قَبۡلَ ٱلۡحَسَنَةِ وَقَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِهِمُ ٱلۡمَثُلَـٰتُۗ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغۡفِرَةࣲ لِّلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ ظُلۡمِهِمۡۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٦

And they prompt you towards evil sooner than towards good yet indeed have gone by before them outstanding signs [of our punishment] and your Lord is indeed Master of forgiveness for the mankind despite their wrongdoings. And your Lord indeed is severe in chastisement.

wayastaʿjilūnaka bil-sayi-ati qabla l-ḥasanati waqad khalat min qablihimu l-mathulātu wa-inna rabbaka ladhū maghfiratin lilnnāsi ʿalā ẓul'mihim wa-inna rabbaka lashadīdu l-ʿiqāb

وَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡهِ ءَایَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۤۗ إِنَّمَاۤ أَنتَ مُنذِرࣱۖ وَلِكُلِّ قَوۡمٍ هَادٍ ۝٧

And those who disbelieve say, “If only a sign is sent down to him from his Lord.” Lo! You are but a warner and for every people there is a guide.

wayaqūlu alladhīna kafarū lawlā unzila ʿalayhi āyatun min rabbihi innamā anta mundhirun walikulli qawmin hādi

2 Fall and Rise of Nations

ٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ مَا تَحۡمِلُ كُلُّ أُنثَىٰ وَمَا تَغِیضُ ٱلۡأَرۡحَامُ وَمَا تَزۡدَادُۚ وَكُلُّ شَیۡءٍ عِندَهُۥ بِمِقۡدَارٍ ۝٨

Allah knows what every female carries and what the wombs decrease and what they let increase. Everything with Him is in due measure.

al-lahu yaʿlamu mā taḥmilu kullu unthā wamā taghīḍu l-arḥāmu wamā tazdādu wakullu shayin ʿindahu bimiq'dāri

عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ ٱلۡكَبِیرُ ٱلۡمُتَعَالِ ۝٩

He is the Knower of the un-witnessed and of the witnessed, The All-great, The All-exalted.

sawāon minkum man asarra l-qawla waman jahara bihi waman huwa mus'takhfin bi-al-layli wasāribun bil-nahār

سَوَاۤءࣱ مِّنكُم مَّنۡ أَسَرَّ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ وَمَن جَهَرَ بِهِۦ وَمَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡتَخۡفِۭ بِٱلَّیۡلِ وَسَارِبُۢ بِٱلنَّهَارِ ۝١٠

It is all equal [to Him] whoever among you makes the speech secret or whoever makes it public or whoever hides by the night or goes out in the open by the day.

Sawaon minkum man asarra alqawla waman jahara bihi waman huwa mustakhfin biallayli wasaribun bialnnahari

لَهُۥ مُعَقِّبَـٰتࣱ مِّنۢ بَیۡنِ یَدَیۡهِ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِۦ یَحۡفَظُونَهُۥ مِنۡ أَمۡرِ ٱللَّهِۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُغَیِّرُ مَا بِقَوۡمٍ حَتَّىٰ یُغَیِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمۡۗ وَإِذَاۤ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِقَوۡمࣲ سُوۤءࣰا فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥۚ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ مِن وَالٍ ۝١١

Before him and behind him are angels who take turns. They protect him from the commandment of Allah. Allah does not change the state of a people until they change the state of their souls and when Allah wills to bring harm to a people there is none who can turn it away. They will have no one to be an ally for them besides Him.

lahu muʿaqqibātun min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi yaḥfaẓūnahu min amri l-lahi inna l-laha lā yughayyiru mā biqawmin ḥattā yughayyirū mā bi-anfusihim wa-idhā arāda l-lahu biqawmin sūan falā maradda lahu wamā lahum min dūnihi min wāli

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُرِیكُمُ ٱلۡبَرۡقَ خَوۡفࣰا وَطَمَعࣰا وَیُنشِئُ ٱلسَّحَابَ ٱلثِّقَالَ ۝١٢

It is He who shows you the lightning to [provoke] fear and hope and He builds up the heavy cloud.

huwa alladhī yurīkumu l-barqa khawfan waṭamaʿan wayunshi-u l-saḥāba l-thiqāl

وَیُسَبِّحُ ٱلرَّعۡدُ بِحَمۡدِهِۦ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ مِنۡ خِیفَتِهِۦ وَیُرۡسِلُ ٱلصَّوَ ٰعِقَ فَیُصِیبُ بِهَا مَن یَشَاۤءُ وَهُمۡ یُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِی ٱللَّهِ وَهُوَ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡمِحَالِ ۝١٣

And the thunder exalts His praise and so do the angels out of fear of Him and He sends the thunderbolts with which He strikes whom He pleases, all the while they argue about Allah when He is the one who is Mighty in the plan.

wayusabbiḥu l-raʿdu biḥamdihi wal-malāikatu min khīfatihi wayur'silu l-ṣawāʿiqa fayuṣību bihā man yashāu wahum yujādilūna fī l-lahi wahuwa shadīdu l-miḥāl

لَهُۥ دَعۡوَةُ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ یَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا یَسۡتَجِیبُونَ لَهُم بِشَیۡءٍ إِلَّا كَبَـٰسِطِ كَفَّیۡهِ إِلَى ٱلۡمَاۤءِ لِیَبۡلُغَ فَاهُ وَمَا هُوَ بِبَـٰلِغِهِۦۚ وَمَا دُعَاۤءُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ إِلَّا فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ ۝١٤

Only for Him is the call of the truth and those they call besides Him do not respond to them with anything except like one who stretches his open hands towards the water so that it may reach his mouth and it is not going to reach it and the call of the disbeliever but goes astray.

lahu daʿwatu l-ḥaqi wa-alladhīna yadʿūna min dūnihi lā yastajībūna lahum bishayin illā kabāsiṭi kaffayhi ilā l-māi liyablugha fāhu wamā huwa bibālighihi wamā duʿāu l-kāfirīna illā fī ḍalāli

وَ̅لِ̅لَّ̅هِ̅ ̅یَ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ طَوۡعࣰا وَكَرۡهࣰا وَظِلَـٰلُهُم بِٱلۡغُدُوِّ وَٱلۡءَاصَالِ ۝١٥ ۩

And for Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and in the earth and so do their shadows, willingly or unwillingly, in the morning and in the evening.

walillahi yasjudu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi ṭawʿan wakarhan waẓilāluhum bil-ghuduwi wal-āṣāl

قُلۡ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ قُلِ ٱللَّهُۚ قُلۡ أَفَٱتَّخَذۡتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦۤ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ لَا یَمۡلِكُونَ لِأَنفُسِهِمۡ نَفۡعࣰا وَلَا ضَرࣰّاۚ قُلۡ هَلۡ یَسۡتَوِی ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ وَٱلۡبَصِیرُ أَمۡ هَلۡ تَسۡتَوِی ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُ وَٱلنُّورُۗ أَمۡ جَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاۤءَ خَلَقُوا۟ كَخَلۡقِهِۦ فَتَشَـٰبَهَ ٱلۡخَلۡقُ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ خَـٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَهُوَ ٱلۡوَ ٰحِدُ ٱلۡقَهَّـٰرُ ۝١٦

Say, “Who is the Lord of the heavens and of the earth?” Say, “It is Allah” Say, “Have you then taken others as allies besides Him who do not possess any power to benefit or harm themselves?” Say, “Is the blind equal to the seeing or are the darknesses equal to the light? Or have they ascribed partners to Allah who have created the likeness of His creation so that they are confused in the matter of creation?” Say, “Allah is the Creator of all things and it is He who is The One, The All Over-powering.

qul man rabbu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi quli l-lahu qul afa-ittakhadhtum min dūnihi awliyāa lā yamlikūna li-anfusihim nafʿan walā ḍarran qul hal yastawī l-aʿmā wal-baṣīru am hal tastawī l-ẓulumātu wal-nūru am jaʿalū lillahi shurakāa khalaqū kakhalqihi fatashābaha l-khalqu ʿalayhim quli l-lahu khāliqu kulli shayin wahuwa l-wāḥidu l-qahār

أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَسَالَتۡ أَوۡدِیَةُۢ بِقَدَرِهَا فَٱحۡتَمَلَ ٱلسَّیۡلُ زَبَدࣰا رَّابِیࣰاۖ وَمِمَّا یُوقِدُونَ عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلنَّارِ ٱبۡتِغَاۤءَ حِلۡیَةٍ أَوۡ مَتَـٰعࣲ زَبَدࣱ مِّثۡلُهُۥۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَضۡرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَٱلۡبَـٰطِلَۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلزَّبَدُ فَیَذۡهَبُ جُفَاۤءࣰۖ وَأَمَّا مَا یَنفَعُ ٱلنَّاسَ فَیَمۡكُثُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَضۡرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَ ۝١٧

He sent down water from the heaven and with it flew valleys each according to its capacity then the water flow carried swelling scum. From those things which they heat up in the fire seeking ornament or items of utility there is scum like unto it. Thus Allah sets the truth against the falsehood. As for the scum, it goes away in vain. As to what benefits the humankind, it stays in the earth. Thus Allah sets the parables.

anzala mina l-samāi māan fasālat awdiyatun biqadarihā fa-iḥ'tamala l-saylu zabadan rābiyan wamimmā yūqidūna ʿalayhi fī l-nāri ib'tighāa ḥil'yatin aw matāʿin zabadun mith'luhu kadhālika yaḍribu l-lahu l-ḥaqa wal-bāṭila fa-ammā l-zabadu fayadhhabu jufāan wa-ammā mā yanfaʿu l-nāsa fayamkuthu fī l-arḍi kadhālika yaḍribu l-lahu l-amthāl

لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَجَابُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ لَمۡ یَسۡتَجِیبُوا۟ لَهُۥ لَوۡ أَنَّ لَهُم مَّا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِیعࣰا وَمِثۡلَهُۥ مَعَهُۥ لَٱفۡتَدَوۡا۟ بِهِۦۤۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ سُوۤءُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمِهَادُ ۝١٨

For those who responded to their Lord is the excellent reward and as for those who did not respond to Him, had they had for themselves all that is in the earth together and the like of it with it, they would surely pay it in ransom. It is they for whom there will be a woeful reckoning and their home will be the hellfire. What a woeful resting place.

lilladhīna is'tajābū lirabbihimu l-ḥus'nā wa-alladhīna lam yastajībū lahu law anna lahum mā fī l-arḍi jamīʿan wamith'lahu maʿahu la-if'tadaw bihi ulāika lahum sūu l-ḥisābi wamawāhum jahannamu wabi'sa l-mihād

3 Good and Evil bear Reward

۞ أَفَمَن یَعۡلَمُ أَنَّمَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ٱلۡحَقُّ كَمَنۡ هُوَ أَعۡمَىٰۤۚ إِنَّمَا یَتَذَكَّرُ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝١٩

Is the one who knows what has been revealed unto you from your Lord is the truth like the one who is blind. Only those who have an understanding heart, remember.

afaman yaʿlamu annamā unzila ilayka min rabbika l-ḥaqu kaman huwa aʿmā innamā yatadhakkaru ulū l-albāb

ٱلَّذِینَ یُوفُونَ بِعَهۡدِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا یَنقُضُونَ ٱلۡمِیثَـٰقَ ۝٢٠

They who fulfill their promise to Allah and do not break the solemn pledge.

alladhīna yūfūna biʿahdi l-lahi walā yanquḍūna l-mīthāq

وَٱلَّذِینَ یَصِلُونَ مَاۤ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦۤ أَن یُوصَلَ وَیَخۡشَوۡنَ رَبَّهُمۡ وَیَخَافُونَ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ۝٢١

And those who keep fast that which Allah has commanded to be joined and hold their Lord in deference and fear a woeful reckoning.

wa-alladhīna yaṣilūna mā amara l-lahu bihi an yūṣala wayakhshawna rabbahum wayakhāfūna sūa l-ḥisāb

وَٱلَّذِینَ صَبَرُوا۟ ٱبۡتِغَاۤءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَنفَقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ سِرࣰّا وَعَلَانِیَةࣰ وَیَدۡرَءُونَ بِٱلۡحَسَنَةِ ٱلسَّیِّئَةَ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ عُقۡبَى ٱلدَّارِ ۝٢٢

And those who are patient for the sake of seeking the countenance [pleasure] of their Lord and establish the prayer and spend in secret and in public from that which We have provided for them and who push away the evil with the good. It is they for whom will be the home of the good ending.

wa-alladhīna ṣabarū ib'tighāa wajhi rabbihim wa-aqāmū l-ṣalata wa-anfaqū mimmā razaqnāhum sirran waʿalāniyatan wayadraūna bil-ḥasanati l-sayi-ata ulāika lahum ʿuq'bā l-dār

جَنَّـٰتُ عَدۡنࣲ یَدۡخُلُونَهَا وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنۡ ءَابَاۤىِٕهِمۡ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجِهِمۡ وَذُرِّیَّـٰتِهِمۡۖ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَدۡخُلُونَ عَلَیۡهِم مِّن كُلِّ بَابࣲ ۝٢٣

Gardens of everlastingness they enter therein and those from their fathers and from their spouses and from their descendants who were righteous, and angels enter on them from every door.

jannātu ʿadnin yadkhulūnahā waman ṣalaḥa min ābāihim wa-azwājihim wadhurriyyātihim wal-malāikatu yadkhulūna ʿalayhim min kulli bābi

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَیۡكُم بِمَا صَبَرۡتُمۡۚ فَنِعۡمَ عُقۡبَى ٱلدَّارِ ۝٢٤

[saying], “Peace be upon you for that you were patient.” Lo! What a joyful home of good ending.

salāmun ʿalaykum bimā ṣabartum faniʿ'ma ʿuq'bā l-dār

وَٱلَّذِینَ یَنقُضُونَ عَهۡدَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مِیثَـٰقِهِۦ وَیَقۡطَعُونَ مَاۤ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦۤ أَن یُوصَلَ وَیُفۡسِدُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمُ ٱللَّعۡنَةُ وَلَهُمۡ سُوۤءُ ٱلدَّارِ ۝٢٥

And those who break the covenant of Allah after ratifying it, and sever that which Allah has commanded to be kept fast, and spread corruption in the earth. Those are the ones for whom is the curse and for them is the woeful home.

wa-alladhīna yanquḍūna ʿahda l-lahi min baʿdi mīthāqihi wayaqṭaʿūna mā amara l-lahu bihi an yūṣala wayuf'sidūna fī l-arḍi ulāika lahumu l-laʿnatu walahum sūu l-dār

ٱللَّهُ یَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَقۡدِرُۚ وَفَرِحُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَمَا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَا فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ إِلَّا مَتَـٰعࣱ ۝٢٦

Allah expands the provision for whom He pleases and He constricts [it for whom He pleases] but they rejoice in the life of this world and the life of this world [compared to] the hereafter is nothing but a fleeting enjoyment.

al-lahu yabsuṭu l-riz'qa liman yashāu wayaqdiru wafariḥū bil-ḥayati l-dun'yā wamā l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā fī l-ākhirati illā matāʿu

4 Revolution to be brought about by Qur'an

وَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡهِ ءَایَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُضِلُّ مَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَهۡدِیۤ إِلَیۡهِ مَنۡ أَنَابَ ۝٢٧

And those who disbelieve say, “If only a sign was sent down upon him from His Lord” Say, “Allah does make go astray whom He wills and guides unto Him who returns to Him in repentance.”

wayaqūlu alladhīna kafarū lawlā unzila ʿalayhi āyatun min rabbihi qul inna l-laha yuḍillu man yashāu wayahdī ilayhi man anāb

ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَطۡمَىِٕنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِۗ أَلَا بِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطۡمَىِٕنُّ ٱلۡقُلُوبُ ۝٢٨

Those who believe and their hearts find tranquility through the remembrance of Allah. Indeed it is only through the remembrance of Allah that hearts find tranquility.

alladhīna āmanū wataṭma-innu qulūbuhum bidhik'ri l-lahi alā bidhik'ri l-lahi taṭma-innu l-qulūb

ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ طُوبَىٰ لَهُمۡ وَحُسۡنُ مَءَابࣲ ۝٢٩

Those who have believed and have done righteous deeds [tree of] tuba is for them and an excellent place of return.

alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti ṭūbā lahum waḥus'nu maābi

كَذَ ٰلِكَ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ فِیۤ أُمَّةࣲ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِهَاۤ أُمَمࣱ لِّتَتۡلُوَا۟ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ وَهُمۡ یَكۡفُرُونَ بِٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِۚ قُلۡ هُوَ رَبِّی لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَیۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُ وَإِلَیۡهِ مَتَابِ ۝٣٠

Thus We have sent you in a nation before which nations did pass so that you may relate unto them that which We have inspired you with but they disbelieve in Ar-Rahman [The All-merciful]. Say, “It is He, He is my Lord, there is no god except He. In Him do I put my trust and back to him is my place of return.”

kadhālika arsalnāka fī ummatin qad khalat min qablihā umamun litatluwā ʿalayhimu alladhī awḥaynā ilayka wahum yakfurūna bil-raḥmāni qul huwa rabbī lā ilāha illā huwa ʿalayhi tawakkaltu wa-ilayhi matāb

وَلَوۡ أَنَّ قُرۡءَانࣰا سُیِّرَتۡ بِهِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ أَوۡ قُطِّعَتۡ بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ أَوۡ كُلِّمَ بِهِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰۗ بَل لِّلَّهِ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ جَمِیعًاۗ أَفَلَمۡ یَا۟یۡءَسِ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَن لَّوۡ یَشَاۤءُ ٱللَّهُ لَهَدَى ٱلنَّاسَ جَمِیعࣰاۗ وَلَا یَزَالُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ تُصِیبُهُم بِمَا صَنَعُوا۟ قَارِعَةٌ أَوۡ تَحُلُّ قَرِیبࣰا مِّن دَارِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ یَأۡتِیَ وَعۡدُ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُخۡلِفُ ٱلۡمِیعَادَ ۝٣١

Had a divine writ [come to them] by which mountains could be moved or the earth could be cleft asunder or the dead could be made to speak [they would still not believe] nay for Allah is the commandment altogether. Have the believers not realized that if Allah so willed He would have guided the human kind altogether but the disbelievers do not seize [to disbelieve] till the thunderbolt had struck them for that they have wrought or it falls close to their homes until Allah’s promise comes to pass for Allah does not fail his appointed tryst.

walaw anna qur'ānan suyyirat bihi l-jibālu aw quṭṭiʿat bihi l-arḍu aw kullima bihi l-mawtā bal lillahi l-amru jamīʿan afalam yāy'asi alladhīna āmanū an law yashāu l-lahu lahadā l-nāsa jamīʿan walā yazālu alladhīna kafarū tuṣībuhum bimā ṣanaʿū qāriʿatun aw taḥullu qarīban min dārihim ḥattā yatiya waʿdu l-lahi inna l-laha lā yukh'lifu l-mīʿād

5 Opposition will fail

وَلَقَدِ ٱسۡتُهۡزِئَ بِرُسُلࣲ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَأَمۡلَیۡتُ لِلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ثُمَّ أَخَذۡتُهُمۡۖ فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ ۝٣٢

Messengers before you were indeed mocked at but I gave respite to those who disbelieved and then I seized them. [See] how then was My chastisement.

walaqadi us'tuh'zi-a birusulin min qablika fa-amlaytu lilladhīna kafarū thumma akhadhtuhum fakayfa kāna ʿiqāb

أَفَمَنۡ هُوَ قَاۤىِٕمٌ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡۗ وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاۤءَ قُلۡ سَمُّوهُمۡۚ أَمۡ تُنَبِّءُونَهُۥ بِمَا لَا یَعۡلَمُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَم بِظَـٰهِرࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِۗ بَلۡ زُیِّنَ لِلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مَكۡرُهُمۡ وَصُدُّوا۟ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِیلِۗ وَمَن یُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡ هَادࣲ ۝٣٣

Is the One who stands [as a witness] above every soul for that which it earns [equal to one who does not] and they ascribed partners to Allah say, “Name them or are you informing Him about something that He knows not in the earth or is just an ostentation of words?” Nay! The evil counsel of those who disbelieve has been made seemly to them and therefore they have been barred from the way and whosoever Allah makes go astray, there is none as a guide for him.

afaman huwa qāimun ʿalā kulli nafsin bimā kasabat wajaʿalū lillahi shurakāa qul sammūhum am tunabbiūnahu bimā lā yaʿlamu fī l-arḍi am biẓāhirin mina l-qawli bal zuyyina lilladhīna kafarū makruhum waṣuddū ʿani l-sabīli waman yuḍ'lili l-lahu famā lahu min hādi

لَّهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ أَشَقُّۖ وَمَا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَاقࣲ ۝٣٤

For them is punishment in the life of this world and truly the punishment in the life of hereafter is harder and there will be no protector for them against Allah.

lahum ʿadhābun fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā walaʿadhābu l-ākhirati ashaqqu wamā lahum mina l-lahi min wāqi

۞ مَّثَلُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِی وُعِدَ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَۖ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُۖ أُكُلُهَا دَاۤىِٕمࣱ وَظِلُّهَاۚ تِلۡكَ عُقۡبَى ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّقَوا۟ۚ وَّعُقۡبَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ٱلنَّارُ ۝٣٥

The likeness of the garden which has been promised to those who guard their own souls [is that of a garden] under which the rivers flow. Its fruit is perennial and so is its shade. That is the place of ending of those who safeguard their own souls but the place of ending for the disbelievers is the fire.

mathalu l-janati allatī wuʿida l-mutaqūna tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru ukuluhā dāimun waẓilluhā til'ka ʿuq'bā alladhīna ittaqaw waʿuq'bā l-kāfirīna l-nār

وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ یَفۡرَحُونَ بِمَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابِ مَن یُنكِرُ بَعۡضَهُۥۚ قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَعۡبُدَ ٱللَّهَ وَلَاۤ أُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦۤۚ إِلَیۡهِ أَدۡعُوا۟ وَإِلَیۡهِ مَءَابِ ۝٣٦

And those unto whom We gave the book rejoice at that which has been revealed unto you but among the confederates are those who deny part of it. Say, “I am only commanded to worship Allah and to ascribe no partners to Him. Unto Him do I call and unto Him is my place of return.”

wa-alladhīna ātaynāhumu l-kitāba yafraḥūna bimā unzila ilayka wamina l-aḥzābi man yunkiru baʿḍahu qul innamā umir'tu an aʿbuda l-laha walā ush'rika bihi ilayhi adʿū wa-ilayhi maāb

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ حُكۡمًا عَرَبِیࣰّاۚ وَلَىِٕنِ ٱتَّبَعۡتَ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُم بَعۡدَ مَا جَاۤءَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ مَا لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِیࣲّ وَلَا وَاقࣲ ۝٣٧

And thus We have revealed it as a wisdom in the Arabic tongue and if you ever follow their vain desires after that which has come to you from the knowledge [then know that] there is no ally for you besides Allah and no protector [for you against Allah].

wakadhālika anzalnāhu ḥuk'man ʿarabiyyan wala-ini ittabaʿta ahwāahum baʿdamā jāaka mina l-ʿil'mi mā laka mina l-lahi min waliyyin walā wāqi

6 Steady Progress of Truth

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلࣰا مِّن قَبۡلِكَ وَجَعَلۡنَا لَهُمۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا وَذُرِّیَّةࣰۚ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَن یَأۡتِیَ بِءَایَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۗ لِكُلِّ أَجَلࣲ كِتَابࣱ ۝٣٨

And indeed We did send messengers before you and we did grant unto them spouses and progenies. It was not fitting for a messenger to bring forth a sign except by the permission of Allah. For every appointed term, there is a book.

walaqad arsalnā rusulan min qablika wajaʿalnā lahum azwājan wadhurriyyatan wamā kāna lirasūlin an yatiya biāyatin illā bi-idh'ni l-lahi likulli ajalin kitābu

یَمۡحُوا۟ ٱللَّهُ مَا یَشَاۤءُ وَیُثۡبِتُۖ وَعِندَهُۥۤ أُمُّ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ ۝٣٩

Allah effaces what He pleases and confirms [what He pleases] and with Him is the mother of the book.

yamḥū l-lahu mā yashāu wayuth'bitu waʿindahu ummu l-kitāb

وَإِن مَّا نُرِیَنَّكَ بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِی نَعِدُهُمۡ أَوۡ نَتَوَفَّیَنَّكَ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَیۡكَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ وَعَلَیۡنَا ٱلۡحِسَابُ ۝٤٠

Whether We make you see some of that which We have promised them or we take your soul [Unto Us]. All that is upon you is to convey the message and the reckoning is on Us.

wa-in mā nuriyannaka baʿḍa alladhī naʿiduhum aw natawaffayannaka fa-innamā ʿalayka l-balāghu waʿalaynā l-ḥisāb

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّا نَأۡتِی ٱلۡأَرۡضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنۡ أَطۡرَافِهَاۚ وَٱللَّهُ یَحۡكُمُ لَا مُعَقِّبَ لِحُكۡمِهِۦۚ وَهُوَ سَرِیعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ۝٤١

Have they not seen that We approach the earth reducing it from its sides and Allah judges and there is none to follow upon His judgment and it is He who is Swift in the reckoning.

awalam yaraw annā natī l-arḍa nanquṣuhā min aṭrāfihā wal-lahu yaḥkumu lā muʿaqqiba liḥuk'mihi wahuwa sarīʿu l-ḥisāb

وَقَدۡ مَكَرَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡمَكۡرُ جَمِیعࣰاۖ یَعۡلَمُ مَا تَكۡسِبُ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲۗ وَسَیَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡكُفَّـٰرُ لِمَنۡ عُقۡبَى ٱلدَّارِ ۝٤٢

Those before them did scheme but the scheming altogether is for Allah He knows what every soul earns and the disbelievers will soon come to know for Whom is the home of good ending.

waqad makara alladhīna min qablihim falillahi l-makru jamīʿan yaʿlamu mā taksibu kullu nafsin wasayaʿlamu l-kufāru liman ʿuq'bā l-dār

وَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَسۡتَ مُرۡسَلࣰاۚ قُلۡ كَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِیدَۢا بَیۡنِی وَبَیۡنَكُمۡ وَمَنۡ عِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ ۝٤٣

Those who disbelieve say, “You have not been sent a messenger” say, “Allah suffices as a witness between me and you and so does the one with whom is the knowledge of the book.”

wayaqūlu alladhīna kafarū lasta mur'salan qul kafā bil-lahi shahīdan baynī wabaynakum waman ʿindahu ʿil'mu l-kitāb
