35:1

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَاعِلِ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ رُسُلًا أُو۟لِیۤ أَجۡنِحَةࣲ مَّثۡنَىٰ وَثُلَـٰثَ وَرُبَـٰعَۚ یَزِیدُ فِی ٱلۡخَلۡقِ مَا یَشَاۤءُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣱ ۝١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

The Praise belongs to God, One Who is the Originator of the heavens and the earth, the One Who Makes the angels messengers imbued with wings by twos and in threes and fours. He increases in creation what He wills. Truly, God is Powerful over everything.

al-ḥamdu lillahi fāṭiri l-samāwāti wal-arḍi jāʿili l-malāikati rusulan ulī ajniḥatin mathnā wathulātha warubāʿa yazīdu fī l-khalqi mā yashāu inna l-laha ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

35:2

مَّا یَفۡتَحِ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحۡمَةࣲ فَلَا مُمۡسِكَ لَهَاۖ وَمَا یُمۡسِكۡ فَلَا مُرۡسِلَ لَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Whatever God may open of mercy to humanity, there is not one who holds it back. And what He holds back, there is not one who sends it after that. And He is The Almighty, The Wise.

mā yaftaḥi l-lahu lilnnāsi min raḥmatin falā mum'sika lahā wamā yum'sik falā mur'sila lahu min baʿdihi wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

35:3

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱذۡكُرُوا۟ نِعۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡكُمۡۚ هَلۡ مِنۡ خَـٰلِقٍ غَیۡرُ ٱللَّهِ یَرۡزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤۡفَكُونَ ۝٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

O humanity! Remember the divine blessing of God on you! Is there anyone who is a creator other than God Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? There is no god but He. Then, how you are misled!

yāayyuhā l-nāsu udh'kurū niʿ'mata l-lahi ʿalaykum hal min khāliqin ghayru l-lahi yarzuqukum mina l-samāi wal-arḍi lā ilāha illā huwa fa-annā tu'fakūn

35:4

وَإِن یُكَذِّبُوكَ فَقَدۡ كُذِّبَتۡ رُسُلࣱ مِّن قَبۡلِكَۚ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرۡجَعُ ٱلۡأُمُورُ ۝٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And if they deny thee, surely, Messengers before thee were denied. And to God all affairs are returned.

wa-in yukadhibūka faqad kudhibat rusulun min qablika wa-ilā l-lahi tur'jaʿu l-umūr

35:5

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقࣱّۖ فَلَا تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَلَا یَغُرَّنَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡغَرُورُ ۝٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

O humanity! Truly, the promise of God is true. So let not this present life delude you. And let not the deluder delude you about God.

yāayyuhā l-nāsu inna waʿda l-lahi ḥaqqun falā taghurrannakumu l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā walā yaghurrannakum bil-lahi l-gharūr

35:6

إِنَّ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنَ لَكُمۡ عَدُوࣱّ فَٱتَّخِذُوهُ عَدُوًّاۚ إِنَّمَا یَدۡعُوا۟ حِزۡبَهُۥ لِیَكُونُوا۟ مِنۡ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلسَّعِیرِ ۝٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, Satan is an enemy to you so take him to yourselves as an enemy. He calls only his party that they be among the Companions of the Blaze.

inna l-shayṭāna lakum ʿaduwwun fa-ittakhidhūhu ʿaduwwan innamā yadʿū ḥiz'bahu liyakūnū min aṣḥābi l-saʿīr

35:7

ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ شَدِیدࣱۖ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُم مَّغۡفِرَةࣱ وَأَجۡرࣱ كَبِیرٌ ۝٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Those who were ungrateful, for them will be a severe punishment. And those who believed and did as the ones in accord with morality, for them there is forgiveness and a great compensation.

alladhīna kafarū lahum ʿadhābun shadīdun wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lahum maghfiratun wa-ajrun kabīru

35:8

أَفَمَن زُیِّنَ لَهُۥ سُوۤءُ عَمَلِهِۦ فَرَءَاهُ حَسَنࣰاۖ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُضِلُّ مَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَهۡدِی مَن یَشَاۤءُۖ فَلَا تَذۡهَبۡ نَفۡسُكَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ حَسَرَ ٰتٍۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِیمُۢ بِمَا یَصۡنَعُونَ ۝٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Then, who is there that was made to appear pleasing to him the direness of his actions so that, then, he saw it as fairer. Truly, God causes to go astray whomever He wills and guides whomever He wills. So let not thy soul be wasted in regret for them. Truly, God is Knowing of what they craft!

afaman zuyyina lahu sūu ʿamalihi faraāhu ḥasanan fa-inna l-laha yuḍillu man yashāu wayahdī man yashāu falā tadhhab nafsuka ʿalayhim ḥasarātin inna l-laha ʿalīmun bimā yaṣnaʿūn

35:9

وَٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَرۡسَلَ ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ فَتُثِیرُ سَحَابࣰا فَسُقۡنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ بَلَدࣲ مَّیِّتࣲ فَأَحۡیَیۡنَا بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلنُّشُورُ ۝٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And it is God Who sent the winds so that they raise clouds and We drove them to a dead land and We gave life by them to the earth after its death. Thus, will be the rising!

wal-lahu alladhī arsala l-riyāḥa fatuthīru saḥāban fasuq'nāhu ilā baladin mayyitin fa-aḥyaynā bihi l-arḍa baʿda mawtihā kadhālika l-nushūr

35:10

مَن كَانَ یُرِیدُ ٱلۡعِزَّةَ فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡعِزَّةُ جَمِیعًاۚ إِلَیۡهِ یَصۡعَدُ ٱلۡكَلِمُ ٱلطَّیِّبُ وَٱلۡعَمَلُ ٱلصَّـٰلِحُ یَرۡفَعُهُۥۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ یَمۡكُرُونَ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتِ لَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ شَدِیدࣱۖ وَمَكۡرُ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُوَ یَبُورُ ۝١٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Whoever had been wanting great glory, great glory belongs to God altogether. To Him Words of what is good rise. He exalts the actions of one in accord with morality. But those who plan evil deeds, for them will be a severe punishment. And the planning of those, it will come to nothing.

man kāna yurīdu l-ʿizata falillahi l-ʿizatu jamīʿan ilayhi yaṣʿadu l-kalimu l-ṭayibu wal-ʿamalu l-ṣāliḥu yarfaʿuhu wa-alladhīna yamkurūna l-sayiāti lahum ʿadhābun shadīdun wamakru ulāika huwa yabūr

35:11

وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابࣲ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطۡفَةࣲ ثُمَّ جَعَلَكُمۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰاۚ وَمَا تَحۡمِلُ مِنۡ أُنثَىٰ وَلَا تَضَعُ إِلَّا بِعِلۡمِهِۦۚ وَمَا یُعَمَّرُ مِن مُّعَمَّرࣲ وَلَا یُنقَصُ مِنۡ عُمُرِهِۦۤ إِلَّا فِی كِتَـٰبٍۚ إِنَّ ذَ ٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ یَسِیرࣱ ۝١١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And God created you from earth dust: Again, from seminal fluid. Again, He made you pairs. And no female carries nor brings forth her burden but with His Knowledge. No one who is given a long life is given a long life, nor is anything reduced from his lifetime but it is in a Book. Truly, that is easy for God.

wal-lahu khalaqakum min turābin thumma min nuṭ'fatin thumma jaʿalakum azwājan wamā taḥmilu min unthā walā taḍaʿu illā biʿil'mihi wamā yuʿammaru min muʿammarin walā yunqaṣu min ʿumurihi illā fī kitābin inna dhālika ʿalā l-lahi yasīru

35:12

وَمَا یَسۡتَوِی ٱلۡبَحۡرَانِ هَـٰذَا عَذۡبࣱ فُرَاتࣱ سَاۤىِٕغࣱ شَرَابُهُۥ وَهَـٰذَا مِلۡحٌ أُجَاجࣱۖ وَمِن كُلࣲّ تَأۡكُلُونَ لَحۡمࣰا طَرِیࣰّا وَتَسۡتَخۡرِجُونَ حِلۡیَةࣰ تَلۡبَسُونَهَاۖ وَتَرَى ٱلۡفُلۡكَ فِیهِ مَوَاخِرَ لِتَبۡتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝١٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

The two bodies of water are not on the same level. This is agreeable, water of the sweetest kind, that which is delicious to drink, and the other is salty, bitter. But from each you eat succulent flesh and pull out glitter that you wear. And thou wilt see the boats, that which plows through the waves on it, that you be looking for His grace and so that perhaps you will give thanks.

wamā yastawī l-baḥrāni hādhā ʿadhbun furātun sāighun sharābuhu wahādhā mil'ḥun ujājun wamin kullin takulūna laḥman ṭariyyan watastakhrijūna ḥil'yatan talbasūnahā watarā l-ful'ka fīhi mawākhira litabtaghū min faḍlihi walaʿallakum tashkurūn

35:13

یُولِجُ ٱلَّیۡلَ فِی ٱلنَّهَارِ وَیُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِی ٱلَّیۡلِ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ كُلࣱّ یَجۡرِی لِأَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّىۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡ لَهُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مَا یَمۡلِكُونَ مِن قِطۡمِیرٍ ۝١٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He causes the nighttime to be interposed in the daytime and He causes the daytime to be interposed into the nighttime and He caused the sun to be subservient and the moon. Each runs its course for a term, that is determined. That is God, your Lord. For Him is the dominion! And those whom you call to other than Him possess not even the white spot of a date stone.

yūliju al-layla fī l-nahāri wayūliju l-nahāra fī al-layli wasakhara l-shamsa wal-qamara kullun yajrī li-ajalin musamman dhālikumu l-lahu rabbukum lahu l-mul'ku wa-alladhīna tadʿūna min dūnihi mā yamlikūna min qiṭ'mīri

35:14

إِن تَدۡعُوهُمۡ لَا یَسۡمَعُوا۟ دُعَاۤءَكُمۡ وَلَوۡ سَمِعُوا۟ مَا ٱسۡتَجَابُوا۟ لَكُمۡۖ وَیَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ یَكۡفُرُونَ بِشِرۡكِكُمۡۚ وَلَا یُنَبِّئُكَ مِثۡلُ خَبِیرࣲ ۝١٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

If you call to them, they would not hear your supplication. Even if they heard, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection they will disbelieve in your association with them. And none tells thee like One Who is Aware.

in tadʿūhum lā yasmaʿū duʿāakum walaw samiʿū mā is'tajābū lakum wayawma l-qiyāmati yakfurūna bishir'kikum walā yunabbi-uka mith'lu khabīri

35:15

۞ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ أَنتُمُ ٱلۡفُقَرَاۤءُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۖ وَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلۡغَنِیُّ ٱلۡحَمِیدُ ۝١٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

O humanity! It is you who are poor in relation to God. And God—He is Sufficient, Worthy of Praise.

yāayyuhā l-nāsu antumu l-fuqarāu ilā l-lahi wal-lahu huwa l-ghaniyu l-ḥamīd

35:16

إِن یَشَأۡ یُذۡهِبۡكُمۡ وَیَأۡتِ بِخَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدࣲ ۝١٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

If He wills, He would cause you to be put away and bring a new creation.

in yasha yudh'hib'kum wayati bikhalqin jadīdi

35:17

وَمَا ذَ ٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ بِعَزِیزࣲ ۝١٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And that for God is not a great matter.

wamā dhālika ʿalā l-lahi biʿazīzi

35:18

وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةࣱ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰۚ وَإِن تَدۡعُ مُثۡقَلَةٌ إِلَىٰ حِمۡلِهَا لَا یُحۡمَلۡ مِنۡهُ شَیۡءࣱ وَلَوۡ كَانَ ذَا قُرۡبَىٰۤۗ إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ ٱلَّذِینَ یَخۡشَوۡنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَۚ وَمَن تَزَكَّىٰ فَإِنَّمَا یَتَزَكَّىٰ لِنَفۡسِهِۦۚ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝١٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And no burdened soul will bear another’s load. If one who is weighed down calls for help for his heavy load, nothing of it is carried for him, even if he had been possessor of kinship. Hast thou warned only those who dread their Lord in the unseen and performed the formal prayer. And he who purified himself, then, only purifies for himself. And to God is the Homecoming.

walā taziru wāziratun wiz'ra ukh'rā wa-in tadʿu muth'qalatun ilā ḥim'lihā lā yuḥ'mal min'hu shayon walaw kāna dhā qur'bā innamā tundhiru alladhīna yakhshawna rabbahum bil-ghaybi wa-aqāmū l-ṣalata waman tazakkā fa-innamā yatazakkā linafsihi wa-ilā l-lahi l-maṣīr

35:19

وَمَا یَسۡتَوِی ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ وَٱلۡبَصِیرُ ۝١٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Not on the same level are the unwilling to see and the seeing

wamā yastawī l-aʿmā wal-baṣīr

35:20

وَلَا ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُ وَلَا ٱلنُّورُ ۝٢٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

nor are shadows and light

walā l-ẓulumātu walā l-nūr

35:21

وَلَا ٱلظِّلُّ وَلَا ٱلۡحَرُورُ ۝٢١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

nor are the shade and the torrid heat.

walā l-ẓilu walā l-ḥarūr

35:22

وَمَا یَسۡتَوِی ٱلۡأَحۡیَاۤءُ وَلَا ٱلۡأَمۡوَ ٰتُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُسۡمِعُ مَن یَشَاۤءُۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتَ بِمُسۡمِعࣲ مَّن فِی ٱلۡقُبُورِ ۝٢٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Nor are the living and the lifeless on the same level. Truly, God causes to hear whom He wills. And thou art not one who causes to hear whoever is in graves.

wamā yastawī l-aḥyāu walā l-amwātu inna l-laha yus'miʿu man yashāu wamā anta bimus'miʿin man fī l-qubūr

35:23

إِنۡ أَنتَ إِلَّا نَذِیرٌ ۝٢٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Thou art but a warner.

in anta illā nadhīru

35:24

إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ بَشِیرࣰا وَنَذِیرࣰاۚ وَإِن مِّنۡ أُمَّةٍ إِلَّا خَلَا فِیهَا نَذِیرࣱ ۝٢٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, We sent thee with The Truth, a bearer of good tidings and a warner. And there is not any community, but a warner passed away among them.

innā arsalnāka bil-ḥaqi bashīran wanadhīran wa-in min ummatin illā khalā fīhā nadhīru

35:25

وَإِن یُكَذِّبُوكَ فَقَدۡ كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ وَبِٱلزُّبُرِ وَبِٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ ٱلۡمُنِیرِ ۝٢٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And if they deny thee, so, surely, those who were before them denied. Their Messengers drew near them with the clear portents and with the Psalms and the illuminating Book.

wa-in yukadhibūka faqad kadhaba alladhīna min qablihim jāathum rusuluhum bil-bayināti wabil-zuburi wabil-kitābi l-munīr

35:26

ثُمَّ أَخَذۡتُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ۖ فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ نَكِیرِ ۝٢٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Again, I took those who were ungrateful. And how had My disapproval of them been!

thumma akhadhtu alladhīna kafarū fakayfa kāna nakīr

35:27

أَلَمۡ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا بِهِۦ ثَمَرَ ٰتࣲ مُّخۡتَلِفًا أَلۡوَ ٰنُهَاۚ وَمِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ جُدَدُۢ بِیضࣱ وَحُمۡرࣱ مُّخۡتَلِفٌ أَلۡوَ ٰنُهَا وَغَرَابِیبُ سُودࣱ ۝٢٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Hast thou not considered that God caused water to descend from the heavens? And, then, We brought out fruits, the ones of varying hues. Among the mountains are white and red streaks—the ones of varying hues—and others raven black,

alam tara anna l-laha anzala mina l-samāi māan fa-akhrajnā bihi thamarātin mukh'talifan alwānuhā wamina l-jibāli judadun bīḍun waḥum'run mukh'talifun alwānuhā wagharābību sūdu

35:28

وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَٱلدَّوَاۤبِّ وَٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ مُخۡتَلِفٌ أَلۡوَ ٰنُهُۥ كَذَ ٰلِكَۗ إِنَّمَا یَخۡشَى ٱللَّهَ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِ ٱلۡعُلَمَـٰۤؤُا۟ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزٌ غَفُورٌ ۝٢٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

and of humanity and moving creatures and flocks, thus, they are likewise of hues, ones at variance. Only His servants who dread God are knowing. Truly, God is Almighty, Forgiving.

wamina l-nāsi wal-dawābi wal-anʿāmi mukh'talifun alwānuhu kadhālika innamā yakhshā l-laha min ʿibādihi l-ʿulamāu inna l-laha ʿazīzun ghafūru

35:29

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یَتۡلُونَ كِتَـٰبَ ٱللَّهِ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَنفَقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ سِرࣰّا وَعَلَانِیَةࣰ یَرۡجُونَ تِجَـٰرَةࣰ لَّن تَبُورَ ۝٢٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, those who recount the Book of God and performed the formal prayer and spent out of what We provided for them secretly and in public, they hope for a trade that will never come to nothing.

inna alladhīna yatlūna kitāba l-lahi wa-aqāmū l-ṣalata wa-anfaqū mimmā razaqnāhum sirran waʿalāniyatan yarjūna tijāratan lan tabūr

35:30

لِیُوَفِّیَهُمۡ أُجُورَهُمۡ وَیَزِیدَهُم مِّن فَضۡلِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ غَفُورࣱ شَكُورࣱ ۝٣٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He will, certainly, pay them their account in full as their compensation and increase them more out of His grace. Truly, He is Forgiving, Ready to Appreciate.

liyuwaffiyahum ujūrahum wayazīdahum min faḍlihi innahu ghafūrun shakūru

35:31

وَٱلَّذِیۤ أَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ هُوَ ٱلۡحَقُّ مُصَدِّقࣰا لِّمَا بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡهِۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ لَخَبِیرُۢ بَصِیرࣱ ۝٣١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And what We revealed to thee of the Book is The Truth, that establishes as true what was in advance of it. Truly, God is Aware, Seeing of His servants.

wa-alladhī awḥaynā ilayka mina l-kitābi huwa l-ḥaqu muṣaddiqan limā bayna yadayhi inna l-laha biʿibādihi lakhabīrun baṣīru

35:32

ثُمَّ أَوۡرَثۡنَا ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱصۡطَفَیۡنَا مِنۡ عِبَادِنَاۖ فَمِنۡهُمۡ ظَالِمࣱ لِّنَفۡسِهِۦ وَمِنۡهُم مُّقۡتَصِدࣱ وَمِنۡهُمۡ سَابِقُۢ بِٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِ بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَضۡلُ ٱلۡكَبِیرُ ۝٣٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Again, We gave the Book as an inheritance to those whom We favored of Our servants. Then, of them are ones who are unjust to themselves and of them are ones who halt between two opinions and some of them are ones who take the lead with good deeds by permission of God. That is the greater grace.

thumma awrathnā l-kitāba alladhīna iṣ'ṭafaynā min ʿibādinā famin'hum ẓālimun linafsihi wamin'hum muq'taṣidun wamin'hum sābiqun bil-khayrāti bi-idh'ni l-lahi dhālika huwa l-faḍlu l-kabīr

35:33

جَنَّـٰتُ عَدۡنࣲ یَدۡخُلُونَهَا یُحَلَّوۡنَ فِیهَا مِنۡ أَسَاوِرَ مِن ذَهَبࣲ وَلُؤۡلُؤࣰاۖ وَلِبَاسُهُمۡ فِیهَا حَرِیرࣱ ۝٣٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Gardens of Eden—they will enter them. They will be adorned in them with bracelets of gold and pearls. And their garments in them will be silk.

jannātu ʿadnin yadkhulūnahā yuḥallawna fīhā min asāwira min dhahabin walu'lu-an walibāsuhum fīhā ḥarīru

35:34

وَقَالُوا۟ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَذۡهَبَ عَنَّا ٱلۡحَزَنَۖ إِنَّ رَبَّنَا لَغَفُورࣱ شَكُورٌ ۝٣٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And they would say: The Praise belongs to God Who caused grief to be put away from us. Truly, our Lord is Forgiving, Ready to Appreciate.

waqālū l-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī adhhaba ʿannā l-ḥazana inna rabbanā laghafūrun shakūru

35:35

ٱلَّذِیۤ أَحَلَّنَا دَارَ ٱلۡمُقَامَةِ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ لَا یَمَسُّنَا فِیهَا نَصَبࣱ وَلَا یَمَسُّنَا فِیهَا لُغُوبࣱ ۝٣٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He Who caused us to live in the inhabited Abode out of His grace, fatigue will not afflict us in it, nor will we be afflicted with exhaustion in it.

alladhī aḥallanā dāra l-muqāmati min faḍlihi lā yamassunā fīhā naṣabun walā yamassunā fīhā lughūbu

35:36

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَهُمۡ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ لَا یُقۡضَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡ فَیَمُوتُوا۟ وَلَا یُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُم مِّنۡ عَذَابِهَاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی كُلَّ كَفُورࣲ ۝٣٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And those who were ungrateful, for them will be the fire of hell: Neither will it be decided a term for them so that they die nor will its punishment be lightened for them. Thus, We give recompense to every ungrateful one.

wa-alladhīna kafarū lahum nāru jahannama lā yuq'ḍā ʿalayhim fayamūtū walā yukhaffafu ʿanhum min ʿadhābihā kadhālika najzī kulla kafūri

35:37

وَهُمۡ یَصۡطَرِخُونَ فِیهَا رَبَّنَاۤ أَخۡرِجۡنَا نَعۡمَلۡ صَـٰلِحًا غَیۡرَ ٱلَّذِی كُنَّا نَعۡمَلُۚ أَوَ لَمۡ نُعَمِّرۡكُم مَّا یَتَذَكَّرُ فِیهِ مَن تَذَكَّرَ وَجَاۤءَكُمُ ٱلنَّذِیرُۖ فَذُوقُوا۟ فَمَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِینَ مِن نَّصِیرٍ ۝٣٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And they will shout aloud in it: Our Lord! Bring us out and we shall do as ones in accord with morality, not what we had been doing! Give We not you a long enough life so that whoever recollects would recollect there? And the warner drew near you, so experience it because there is no helper for ones who are unjust.

wahum yaṣṭarikhūna fīhā rabbanā akhrij'nā naʿmal ṣāliḥan ghayra alladhī kunnā naʿmalu awalam nuʿammir'kum mā yatadhakkaru fīhi man tadhakkara wajāakumu l-nadhīru fadhūqū famā lilẓẓālimīna min naṣīri

35:38

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَـٰلِمُ غَیۡبِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِیمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ ۝٣٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, God is One Who Knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth. Truly, He is Knowing of what is in the breasts.

inna l-laha ʿālimu ghaybi l-samāwāti wal-arḍi innahu ʿalīmun bidhāti l-ṣudūr

35:39

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَكُمۡ خَلَـٰۤىِٕفَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ فَمَن كَفَرَ فَعَلَیۡهِ كُفۡرُهُۥۖ وَلَا یَزِیدُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ كُفۡرُهُمۡ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَّا مَقۡتࣰاۖ وَلَا یَزِیدُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ كُفۡرُهُمۡ إِلَّا خَسَارࣰا ۝٣٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He it is Who made you viceregents on the earth. So whoever was ungrateful, then, his ingratitude will be against him. And the ones who are ungrateful increase not their ingratitude to their Lord, but in repugnance. And the ones who are ungrateful increase not their ingratitude to their Lord, but in loss.

huwa alladhī jaʿalakum khalāifa fī l-arḍi faman kafara faʿalayhi kuf'ruhu walā yazīdu l-kāfirīna kuf'ruhum ʿinda rabbihim illā maqtan walā yazīdu l-kāfirīna kuf'ruhum illā khasāra

35:40

قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتُمۡ شُرَكَاۤءَكُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَرُونِی مَاذَا خَلَقُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمۡ لَهُمۡ شِرۡكࣱ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ أَمۡ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ كِتَـٰبࣰا فَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَیِّنَتࣲ مِّنۡهُۚ بَلۡ إِن یَعِدُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ بَعۡضُهُم بَعۡضًا إِلَّا غُرُورًا ۝٤٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Say: Considered you your ascribed associates to whom you call to other than God? Cause me to see what they created in the earth or have they any association in creation of the heavens? Or gave We them a Book so that they have a clear portent from there? Nay! The ones who are unjust promise nothing—some of them to some others—but delusion.

qul ara-aytum shurakāakumu alladhīna tadʿūna min dūni l-lahi arūnī mādhā khalaqū mina l-arḍi am lahum shir'kun fī l-samāwāti am ātaynāhum kitāban fahum ʿalā bayyinatin min'hu bal in yaʿidu l-ẓālimūna baʿḍuhum baʿḍan illā ghurūra

35:41

۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُمۡسِكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ أَن تَزُولَاۚ وَلَىِٕن زَالَتَاۤ إِنۡ أَمۡسَكَهُمَا مِنۡ أَحَدࣲ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حَلِیمًا غَفُورࣰا ۝٤١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, God holds back the heavens and the earth so that they are not displaced. And if they were displaced, there is none who held them back after Him. Truly, He had been Forbearing, Forgiving.

inna l-laha yum'siku l-samāwāti wal-arḍa an tazūlā wala-in zālatā in amsakahumā min aḥadin min baʿdihi innahu kāna ḥalīman ghafūra

35:42

وَأَقۡسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهۡدَ أَیۡمَـٰنِهِمۡ لَىِٕن جَاۤءَهُمۡ نَذِیرࣱ لَّیَكُونُنَّ أَهۡدَىٰ مِنۡ إِحۡدَى ٱلۡأُمَمِۖ فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡ نَذِیرࣱ مَّا زَادَهُمۡ إِلَّا نُفُورًا ۝٤٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And they swore by God the most earnest oaths, that if a warner drew near them, they would be better guided than any of the other communities. Yet when a warner drew near to them, it increased nothing in them but aversion,

wa-aqsamū bil-lahi jahda aymānihim la-in jāahum nadhīrun layakūnunna ahdā min iḥ'dā l-umami falammā jāahum nadhīrun mā zādahum illā nufūra

35:43

ٱسۡتِكۡبَارࣰا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَكۡرَ ٱلسَّیِّىِٕۚ وَلَا یَحِیقُ ٱلۡمَكۡرُ ٱلسَّیِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهۡلِهِۦۚ فَهَلۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا سُنَّتَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَۚ فَلَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّتِ ٱللَّهِ تَبۡدِیلࣰاۖ وَلَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّتِ ٱللَّهِ تَحۡوِیلًا ۝٤٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

growing arrogant on the earth and planning evil deeds. The plan of bad deeds surround none but people themselves. Then, look they on but a custom of the ancient ones? Thou wilt never find in a custom of God any substitution. And thou wilt never find in a custom of God any revision.

is'tik'bāran fī l-arḍi wamakra l-sayi-i walā yaḥīqu l-makru l-sayi-u illā bi-ahlihi fahal yanẓurūna illā sunnata l-awalīna falan tajida lisunnati l-lahi tabdīlan walan tajida lisunnati l-lahi taḥwīla

35:44

أَوَ لَمۡ یَسِیرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَیَنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ وَكَانُوۤا۟ أَشَدَّ مِنۡهُمۡ قُوَّةࣰۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِیُعۡجِزَهُۥ مِن شَیۡءࣲ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَلَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَلِیمࣰا قَدِیرࣰا ۝٤٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Journey they not through the earth and look on how had been the Ultimate End of those before them? They had been stronger than they are in strength. And God had not been weakened by anything in the heavens nor in or on the earth. Truly, He had been Knowing, Powerful.

awalam yasīrū fī l-arḍi fayanẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu alladhīna min qablihim wakānū ashadda min'hum quwwatan wamā kāna l-lahu liyuʿ'jizahu min shayin fī l-samāwāti walā fī l-arḍi innahu kāna ʿalīman qadīra

35:45

وَلَوۡ یُؤَاخِذُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّاسَ بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ مَا تَرَكَ عَلَىٰ ظَهۡرِهَا مِن دَاۤبَّةࣲ وَلَـٰكِن یُؤَخِّرُهُمۡ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّىۖ فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَجَلُهُمۡ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ بَصِیرَۢا ۝٤٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And if God takes humanity to task for what they earned, He would not leave on the back of the earth any moving creature, but He postpones to a term, that is determined. And when their term drew near, then, truly, God had been Seeing of His servants.

walaw yuākhidhu l-lahu l-nāsa bimā kasabū mā taraka ʿalā ẓahrihā min dābbatin walākin yu-akhiruhum ilā ajalin musamman fa-idhā jāa ajaluhum fa-inna l-laha kāna biʿibādihi baṣīra
