Ya Sin, Ya-Seen — Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Translation

Thou hast only warned whoever followed the Remembrance and dreaded The Merciful in the unseen, so give him good tidings of forgiveness and a generous compensation.

innamā tundhiru mani ittabaʿa l-dhik'ra wakhashiya l-raḥmāna bil-ghaybi fabashir'hu bimaghfiratin wa-ajrin karīmi

36:12

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡیِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَنَكۡتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا۟ وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمۡۚ وَكُلَّ شَیۡءٍ أَحۡصَیۡنَـٰهُ فِیۤ إِمَامࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, We give life to the dead and We write down what they put forward and their effects. We counted everything in a clear record.

innā naḥnu nuḥ'yī l-mawtā wanaktubu mā qaddamū waāthārahum wakulla shayin aḥṣaynāhu fī imāmin mubīni

36:13

وَٱضۡرِبۡ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡقَرۡیَةِ إِذۡ جَاۤءَهَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And propound a parable for them: The Companions of the Town when ones who were sent drew near them.

wa-iḍ'rib lahum mathalan aṣḥāba l-qaryati idh jāahā l-mur'salūn

36:14

إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِمُ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزۡنَا بِثَالِثࣲ فَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّاۤ إِلَیۡكُم مُّرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

When We sent to them two, they denied them both, so We replenished them with the third. And they said: Truly, We are ones who are sent to you.

idh arsalnā ilayhimu ith'nayni fakadhabūhumā faʿazzaznā bithālithin faqālū innā ilaykum mur'salūn

36:15

قَالُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُنَا وَمَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ مِن شَیۡءٍ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا تَكۡذِبُونَ ۝١٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They said: You are nothing but mortals like ourselves and The Merciful caused not to descend anything. You are but lying!

qālū mā antum illā basharun mith'lunā wamā anzala l-raḥmānu min shayin in antum illā takdhibūn

36:16

قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا یَعۡلَمُ إِنَّاۤ إِلَیۡكُمۡ لَمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They said: Our Lord knows that we are ones who are sent to you.

qālū rabbunā yaʿlamu innā ilaykum lamur'salūn

36:17

وَمَا عَلَیۡنَاۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝١٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

On us is only the delivering of the clear message.

wamā ʿalaynā illā l-balāghu l-mubīn

36:18

قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا تَطَیَّرۡنَا بِكُمۡۖ لَىِٕن لَّمۡ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرۡجُمَنَّكُمۡ وَلَیَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝١٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They said: Truly, we augured ill of you. If you refrain not yourselves, we will, certainly, stone you. Certainly, a painful punishment will afflict you from us.

qālū innā taṭayyarnā bikum la-in lam tantahū lanarjumannakum walayamassannakum minnā ʿadhābun alīmu

36:19

قَالُوا۟ طَـٰۤىِٕرُكُم مَّعَكُمۡ أَىِٕن ذُكِّرۡتُمۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ مُّسۡرِفُونَ ۝١٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They said: Ones who auger ill will be with you! Is it because you were reminded? Nay! You are a folk, ones who are excessive.

qālū ṭāirukum maʿakum a-in dhukkir'tum bal antum qawmun mus'rifūn

36:20

وَجَاۤءَ مِنۡ أَقۡصَا ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ رَجُلࣱ یَسۡعَىٰ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٢٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

A man drew near from the farther part of the city, coming eagerly. He said: O my folk! Follow the ones who are sent!

wajāa min aqṣā l-madīnati rajulun yasʿā qāla yāqawmi ittabiʿū l-mur'salīn

36:21

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا یَسۡءَلُكُمۡ أَجۡرࣰا وَهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ۝٢١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Follow whoever asks not of you any compensation and they are ones who are truly guided.

ittabiʿū man lā yasalukum ajran wahum muh'tadūn

36:22

وَمَا لِیَ لَاۤ أَعۡبُدُ ٱلَّذِی فَطَرَنِی وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٢٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

What is it for me that I worship not Him Who originated me and to Whom you will be returned?

wamā liya lā aʿbudu alladhī faṭaranī wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn

36:23

ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ ءَالِهَةً إِن یُرِدۡنِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ بِضُرࣲّ لَّا تُغۡنِ عَنِّی شَفَـٰعَتُهُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا یُنقِذُونِ ۝٢٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Will I take gods to myself other than He when, if The Merciful wants any harm for me, their intercession will not avail me at all nor will they save me.

a-attakhidhu min dūnihi ālihatan in yurid'ni l-raḥmānu biḍurrin lā tugh'ni ʿannī shafāʿatuhum shayan walā yunqidhūn

36:24

إِنِّیۤ إِذࣰا لَّفِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٢٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, I would, then, be clearly going astray.

innī idhan lafī ḍalālin mubīni

36:25

إِنِّیۤ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمۡ فَٱسۡمَعُونِ ۝٢٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, I believed in your Lord so hear me!

innī āmantu birabbikum fa-is'maʿūn

36:26

قِیلَ ٱدۡخُلِ ٱلۡجَنَّةَۖ قَالَ یَـٰلَیۡتَ قَوۡمِی یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

It was said: Enter the Garden. He said: O would that my folk know

qīla ud'khuli l-janata qāla yālayta qawmī yaʿlamūn

36:27

بِمَا غَفَرَ لِی رَبِّی وَجَعَلَنِی مِنَ ٱلۡمُكۡرَمِینَ ۝٢٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

that my Lord forgave me and made me one who is honored!

bimā ghafara lī rabbī wajaʿalanī mina l-muk'ramīn

36:28

۞ وَمَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ مِن جُندࣲ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِینَ ۝٢٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

After him We caused not to descend on his folk an army from heaven, nor had We been ones who need to cause to descend again.

wamā anzalnā ʿalā qawmihi min baʿdihi min jundin mina l-samāi wamā kunnā munzilīn

36:29

إِن كَانَتۡ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَإِذَا هُمۡ خَـٰمِدُونَ ۝٢٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

It would be but one Cry and that is when they were ones who are silent and still.

in kānat illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fa-idhā hum khāmidūn

36:30

یَـٰحَسۡرَةً عَلَى ٱلۡعِبَادِۚ مَا یَأۡتِیهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٣٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

O how regrettable of the servants! A Messenger approaches them not, but they had been ridiculing him.

yāḥasratan ʿalā l-ʿibādi mā yatīhim min rasūlin illā kānū bihi yastahziūn

36:31

أَلَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ كَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمۡ إِلَیۡهِمۡ لَا یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٣١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Consider they not how many generations We caused to perish before them who, truly, return not to them.

alam yaraw kam ahlaknā qablahum mina l-qurūni annahum ilayhim lā yarjiʿūn

36:32

وَإِن كُلࣱّ لَّمَّا جَمِیعࣱ لَّدَیۡنَا مُحۡضَرُونَ ۝٣٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, truly, all of them will be altogether, ones who are charged in Our Presence.

wa-in kullun lammā jamīʿun ladaynā muḥ'ḍarūn

36:33

وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ ٱلۡمَیۡتَةُ أَحۡیَیۡنَـٰهَا وَأَخۡرَجۡنَا مِنۡهَا حَبࣰّا فَمِنۡهُ یَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٣٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And a sign for them is the dead body of the earth. We gave life to it and We brought out grain from it so that they eat from it.

waāyatun lahumu l-arḍu l-maytatu aḥyaynāhā wa-akhrajnā min'hā ḥabban famin'hu yakulūn

36:34

وَجَعَلۡنَا فِیهَا جَنَّـٰتࣲ مِّن نَّخِیلࣲ وَأَعۡنَـٰبࣲ وَفَجَّرۡنَا فِیهَا مِنَ ٱلۡعُیُونِ ۝٣٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

We made in them gardens of date palm trees and grapevines and We caused a spring to gush forth in it

wajaʿalnā fīhā jannātin min nakhīlin wa-aʿnābin wafajjarnā fīhā mina l-ʿuyūn

36:35

لِیَأۡكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتۡهُ أَیۡدِیهِمۡۚ أَفَلَا یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٣٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

so that they may eat of the fruit from there that are not what their hands did. Will they, then, not give thanks?

liyakulū min thamarihi wamā ʿamilathu aydīhim afalā yashkurūn

36:36

سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلۡأَزۡوَ ٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمِنۡ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَمِمَّا لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Glory be to Him Who created pairs, all of them, of what the earth causes to develop as well as of themselves and of what they know not!

sub'ḥāna alladhī khalaqa l-azwāja kullahā mimmā tunbitu l-arḍu wamin anfusihim wamimmā lā yaʿlamūn

36:37

وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّیۡلُ نَسۡلَخُ مِنۡهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظۡلِمُونَ ۝٣٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And a sign for them is the nighttime. We pluck the daytime from it and that is when they are ones in darkness!

waāyatun lahumu al-laylu naslakhu min'hu l-nahāra fa-idhā hum muẓ'limūn

36:38

وَٱلشَّمۡسُ تَجۡرِی لِمُسۡتَقَرࣲّ لَّهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ تَقۡدِیرُ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡعَلِیمِ ۝٣٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And the sun runs to a resting place for it. That is foreordained by The Almighty, The Knowing.

wal-shamsu tajrī limus'taqarrin lahā dhālika taqdīru l-ʿazīzi l-ʿalīm

36:39

وَٱلۡقَمَرَ قَدَّرۡنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلۡعُرۡجُونِ ٱلۡقَدِیمِ ۝٣٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And for the moon We ordained mansions until it reverted like an ripe aged, dry, date stalk.

wal-qamara qaddarnāhu manāzila ḥattā ʿāda kal-ʿur'jūni l-qadīm

36:40

لَا ٱلشَّمۡسُ یَنۢبَغِی لَهَاۤ أَن تُدۡرِكَ ٱلۡقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّیۡلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِۚ وَكُلࣱّ فِی فَلَكࣲ یَسۡبَحُونَ ۝٤٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

It is not fit and proper for the sun to overtake the moon nor the nighttime one to take the lead over the daytime. They each swim in an orbit.

lā l-shamsu yanbaghī lahā an tud'rika l-qamara walā al-laylu sābiqu l-nahāri wakullun fī falakin yasbaḥūn

36:41

وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمۡ أَنَّا حَمَلۡنَا ذُرِّیَّتَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ۝٤١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

A sign for them is that We carried their offspring in a laden boat.

waāyatun lahum annā ḥamalnā dhurriyyatahum fī l-ful'ki l-mashḥūn

36:42

وَخَلَقۡنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثۡلِهِۦ مَا یَرۡكَبُونَ ۝٤٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And We created for them of its like that they ride.

wakhalaqnā lahum min mith'lihi mā yarkabūn

36:43

وَإِن نَّشَأۡ نُغۡرِقۡهُمۡ فَلَا صَرِیخَ لَهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنقَذُونَ ۝٤٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And if We will, We drown them with none for them to whom they cry aloud for help nor will they be saved

wa-in nasha nugh'riq'hum falā ṣarīkha lahum walā hum yunqadhūn

36:44

إِلَّا رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنَّا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٤٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

unless it be a mercy from Us and as an enjoyment for a while.

illā raḥmatan minnā wamatāʿan ilā ḥīni

36:45

وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیكُمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝٤٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And when it was said to them: Be Godfearing of what is in advance of you and what is behind you, so that perhaps you will find mercy,

wa-idhā qīla lahumu ittaqū mā bayna aydīkum wamā khalfakum laʿallakum tur'ḥamūn

36:46

وَمَا تَأۡتِیهِم مِّنۡ ءَایَةࣲ مِّنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِینَ ۝٤٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

there never approaches them any sign from the signs of their Lord, but they had been ones who turn aside from it.

wamā tatīhim min āyatin min āyāti rabbihim illā kānū ʿanhā muʿ'riḍīn

36:47

وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمۡ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَنُطۡعِمُ مَن لَّوۡ یَشَاۤءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطۡعَمَهُۥۤ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٤٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And when it was said to them: Spend of whatever God provided you, those who were ungrateful said to those who believed: Will we feed him whom He would have fed, if He wills? You are nothing, but in a clear going astray.

wa-idhā qīla lahum anfiqū mimmā razaqakumu l-lahu qāla alladhīna kafarū lilladhīna āmanū anuṭ'ʿimu man law yashāu l-lahu aṭʿamahu in antum illā fī ḍalālin mubīni

36:48

وَیَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٤٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And they say: When is this promise if you had been ones who are sincere?

wayaqūlūna matā hādhā l-waʿdu in kuntum ṣādiqīn

36:49

مَا یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ تَأۡخُذُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ یَخِصِّمُونَ ۝٤٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They expect but one Cry which will take them while they strive against one another.

mā yanẓurūna illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan takhudhuhum wahum yakhiṣṣimūn

36:50

فَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ تَوۡصِیَةࣰ وَلَاۤ إِلَىٰۤ أَهۡلِهِمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٥٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Then, they will not be able to leave a legacy nor will they return to their people.

falā yastaṭīʿūna tawṣiyatan walā ilā ahlihim yarjiʿūn

36:51

وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ یَنسِلُونَ ۝٥١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And the trumpet would be blown! That is when they will be sliding down to their Lord from their tombs.

wanufikha fī l-ṣūri fa-idhā hum mina l-ajdāthi ilā rabbihim yansilūn

36:52

قَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرۡقَدِنَاۜۗ هَـٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝٥٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They would say: Woe on us! Who raised us up from our place of sleep? This is what The Merciful promised and the ones who are sent were sincere.

qālū yāwaylanā man baʿathanā min marqadinā hādhā mā waʿada l-raḥmānu waṣadaqa l-mur'salūn

36:53

إِن كَانَتۡ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَإِذَا هُمۡ جَمِیعࣱ لَّدَیۡنَا مُحۡضَرُونَ ۝٥٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

It would be but one Cry. That is when they will be in Our Presence altogether, ones who are charged.

in kānat illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fa-idhā hum jamīʿun ladaynā muḥ'ḍarūn

36:54

فَٱلۡیَوۡمَ لَا تُظۡلَمُ نَفۡسࣱ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٥٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

This Day no soul will be wronged at all nor will you be given recompense but for what you had been doing.

fal-yawma lā tuẓ'lamu nafsun shayan walā tuj'zawna illā mā kuntum taʿmalūn

36:55

إِنَّ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ فِی شُغُلࣲ فَـٰكِهُونَ ۝٥٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, the Companions of the Garden that Day are ones who are joyful in their engagements.

inna aṣḥāba l-janati l-yawma fī shughulin fākihūn

36:56

هُمۡ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجُهُمۡ فِی ظِلَـٰلٍ عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَاۤىِٕكِ مُتَّكِءُونَ ۝٥٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They and their spouses, in shade on raised benches, ones who are reclining.

hum wa-azwājuhum fī ẓilālin ʿalā l-arāiki muttakiūn

36:57

لَهُمۡ فِیهَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَلَهُم مَّا یَدَّعُونَ ۝٥٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They will have in it sweet fruits and they will have whatever they call for:

lahum fīhā fākihatun walahum mā yaddaʿūn

36:58

سَلَـٰمࣱ قَوۡلࣰا مِّن رَّبࣲّ رَّحِیمࣲ ۝٥٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Peace! A saying from the Compassionate Lord.

salāmun qawlan min rabbin raḥīmi

36:59

وَٱمۡتَـٰزُوا۟ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ أَیُّهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٥٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And be separated on this Day, O ones who sin!

wa-im'tāzū l-yawma ayyuhā l-muj'rimūn

36:60

۞ أَلَمۡ أَعۡهَدۡ إِلَیۡكُمۡ یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ أَن لَّا تَعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنَۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمۡ عَدُوࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٦٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Make I not a compact with you, O Children of Adam, that you not worship Satan? Truly, he is a clear enemy

alam aʿhad ilaykum yābanī ādama an lā taʿbudū l-shayṭāna innahu lakum ʿaduwwun mubīnu

36:61

وَأَنِ ٱعۡبُدُونِیۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطࣱ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣱ ۝٦١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

and that you should worship Me. This is a straight path.

wa-ani uʿ'budūnī hādhā ṣirāṭun mus'taqīmu

36:62

وَلَقَدۡ أَضَلَّ مِنكُمۡ جِبِلࣰّا كَثِیرًاۖ أَفَلَمۡ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٦٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, certainly, He caused to go astray many an array of you. Be you not, then, reasonable?

walaqad aḍalla minkum jibillan kathīran afalam takūnū taʿqilūn

36:63

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِی كُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ ۝٦٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

This is hell which you had been promised.

hādhihi jahannamu allatī kuntum tūʿadūn

36:64

ٱصۡلَوۡهَا ٱلۡیَوۡمَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٦٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Roast in it this Day because you had been ungrateful.

iṣ'lawhā l-yawma bimā kuntum takfurūn

36:65

ٱلۡیَوۡمَ نَخۡتِمُ عَلَىٰۤ أَفۡوَ ٰهِهِمۡ وَتُكَلِّمُنَاۤ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَتَشۡهَدُ أَرۡجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٦٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

On this Day We will seal over their mouths and their hands will speak to Us and their feet will bear witness to what they had been earning.

al-yawma nakhtimu ʿalā afwāhihim watukallimunā aydīhim watashhadu arjuluhum bimā kānū yaksibūn

36:66

وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَطَمَسۡنَا عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡیُنِهِمۡ فَٱسۡتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَ ٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٦٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And if We will, We would, certainly, have obliterated their eyes. Then, they would race towards the path. How would they have perceived?

walaw nashāu laṭamasnā ʿalā aʿyunihim fa-is'tabaqū l-ṣirāṭa fa-annā yub'ṣirūn

36:67

وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَمَسَخۡنَـٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمۡ فَمَا ٱسۡتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مُضِیࣰّا وَلَا یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٦٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And if We will, We would, certainly, have transformed their ability. Then, they would not have been able to pass on, nor would they return.

walaw nashāu lamasakhnāhum ʿalā makānatihim famā is'taṭāʿū muḍiyyan walā yarjiʿūn

36:68

وَمَن نُّعَمِّرۡهُ نُنَكِّسۡهُ فِی ٱلۡخَلۡقِۚ أَفَلَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٦٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And he to whom We give a long life, We bend him over in his constitution. Will they not, then, be reasonable?

waman nuʿammir'hu nunakkis'hu fī l-khalqi afalā yaʿqilūn

36:69

وَمَا عَلَّمۡنَـٰهُ ٱلشِّعۡرَ وَمَا یَنۢبَغِی لَهُۥۤۚ إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرࣱ وَقُرۡءَانࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٦٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

We taught him not poetry, nor is it fit and proper for him. It is but a Remembrance and a clear Recitation

wamā ʿallamnāhu l-shiʿ'ra wamā yanbaghī lahu in huwa illā dhik'run waqur'ānun mubīnu

36:70

لِّیُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَیࣰّا وَیَحِقَّ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ عَلَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٧٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

to warn whoever had been living and that the saying be realized against the ones who are ungrateful.

liyundhira man kāna ḥayyan wayaḥiqqa l-qawlu ʿalā l-kāfirīn

36:71

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّا خَلَقۡنَا لَهُم مِّمَّا عَمِلَتۡ أَیۡدِینَاۤ أَنۡعَـٰمࣰا فَهُمۡ لَهَا مَـٰلِكُونَ ۝٧١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Consider they not how We created for them—out of what Our hands did— flocks, so they were of them ones who are owners?

awalam yaraw annā khalaqnā lahum mimmā ʿamilat aydīnā anʿāman fahum lahā mālikūn

36:72

وَذَلَّلۡنَـٰهَا لَهُمۡ فَمِنۡهَا رَكُوبُهُمۡ وَمِنۡهَا یَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٧٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And We subdued them for them so that of them, some are riding animals and some of them, they eat.

wadhallalnāhā lahum famin'hā rakūbuhum wamin'hā yakulūn

36:73

وَلَهُمۡ فِیهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُۚ أَفَلَا یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And they have profits from them and providing a place from which to drink. Will they not, then, give thanks?

walahum fīhā manāfiʿu wamashāribu afalā yashkurūn

36:74

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةࣰ لَّعَلَّهُمۡ یُنصَرُونَ ۝٧٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And they took to themselves gods other than God so that perhaps they will be helped.

wa-ittakhadhū min dūni l-lahi ālihatan laʿallahum yunṣarūn

36:75

لَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ نَصۡرَهُمۡ وَهُمۡ لَهُمۡ جُندࣱ مُّحۡضَرُونَ ۝٧٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They are not able to help them while they are to them as a charged army.

lā yastaṭīʿūna naṣrahum wahum lahum jundun muḥ'ḍarūn

36:76

فَلَا یَحۡزُنكَ قَوۡلُهُمۡۘ إِنَّا نَعۡلَمُ مَا یُسِرُّونَ وَمَا یُعۡلِنُونَ ۝٧٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

So let not their saying dishearten thee.• Truly, We know what they keep secret and what they speak openly.

falā yaḥzunka qawluhum innā naʿlamu mā yusirrūna wamā yuʿ'linūn

36:77

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطۡفَةࣲ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِیمࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٧٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Consider not the human being that We created him from seminal fluid? That is when he is a clear adversary.

awalam yara l-insānu annā khalaqnāhu min nuṭ'fatin fa-idhā huwa khaṣīmun mubīnu

36:78

وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلࣰا وَنَسِیَ خَلۡقَهُۥۖ قَالَ مَن یُحۡیِ ٱلۡعِظَـٰمَ وَهِیَ رَمِیمࣱ ۝٧٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He propounded parables for Us and forgot his own creation. He said: Who will give life to these bones when they decayed?

waḍaraba lanā mathalan wanasiya khalqahu qāla man yuḥ'yī l-ʿiẓāma wahiya ramīmu

36:79

قُلۡ یُحۡیِیهَا ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَهَاۤ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلۡقٍ عَلِیمٌ ۝٧٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Say: He will give life to them Who caused them to grow the first time and He is The Knowing of every creation.

qul yuḥ'yīhā alladhī ansha-ahā awwala marratin wahuwa bikulli khalqin ʿalīmu

36:80

ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلۡأَخۡضَرِ نَارࣰا فَإِذَاۤ أَنتُم مِّنۡهُ تُوقِدُونَ ۝٨٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

It is He Who made for you fire out of a green tree. That is when you kindle from it.

alladhī jaʿala lakum mina l-shajari l-akhḍari nāran fa-idhā antum min'hu tūqidūn

36:81

أَوَ لَیۡسَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰۤ أَن یَخۡلُقَ مِثۡلَهُمۚ بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلۡخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٨١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Is not He Who created the heavens and the earth One Who Has Power to create the like of them? Yea! And He is The Knowing Creator.

awalaysa alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa biqādirin ʿalā an yakhluqa mith'lahum balā wahuwa l-khalāqu l-ʿalīm

36:82

إِنَّمَاۤ أَمۡرُهُۥۤ إِذَاۤ أَرَادَ شَیۡءًا أَن یَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَیَكُونُ ۝٨٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, His command when He wanted a thing is but to say to it: Be! Then, it is!

innamā amruhu idhā arāda shayan an yaqūla lahu kun fayakūn

36:83

فَسُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِی بِیَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٨٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Then, Glory be to Him in whose hand is the Kingdom of everything! And to Him you will be returned.

fasub'ḥāna alladhī biyadihi malakūtu kulli shayin wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn
