1 Truth of the Qur'an

وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ٱلۡحَكِیمِ ۝٢

By the Quran full of wisdom,

wal-qur'āni l-ḥakīm

إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٣

you are certainly (one) of the messengers,

innaka lamina l-mur'salīn

عَلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٤

on the straight path.

tanzīla l-ʿazīzi l-raḥīm

تَنزِیلَ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلرَّحِیمِ ۝٥

(The Quran is) sent down by the Mighty, the Merciful

Tanzeela alAAazeezi alrraheemi

لِتُنذِرَ قَوۡمࣰا مَّاۤ أُنذِرَ ءَابَاۤؤُهُمۡ فَهُمۡ غَـٰفِلُونَ ۝٦

that you may warn a people whose fathers were not warned so they are heedless.

litundhira qawman mā undhira ābāuhum fahum ghāfilūn

لَقَدۡ حَقَّ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ عَلَىٰۤ أَكۡثَرِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٧

The word has indeed proved true on most of them so they do not believe.

laqad ḥaqqa l-qawlu ʿalā aktharihim fahum lā yu'minūn

إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا فِیۤ أَعۡنَـٰقِهِمۡ أَغۡلَـٰلࣰا فَهِیَ إِلَى ٱلۡأَذۡقَانِ فَهُم مُّقۡمَحُونَ ۝٨

We have placed chains round their necks and they are right up to the chins, so their heads are raised,

innā jaʿalnā fī aʿnāqihim aghlālan fahiya ilā l-adhqāni fahum muq'maḥūn

وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنۢ بَیۡنِ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ سَدࣰّا وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِمۡ سَدࣰّا فَأَغۡشَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٩

and We have made a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, then We have covered them, therefore they are not able to see.

wajaʿalnā min bayni aydīhim saddan wamin khalfihim saddan fa-aghshaynāhum fahum lā yub'ṣirūn

وَسَوَاۤءٌ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ أَمۡ لَمۡ تُنذِرۡهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٠

And it is equal to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe.

wasawāon ʿalayhim a-andhartahum am lam tundhir'hum lā yu'minūn

إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَخَشِیَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنَ بِٱلۡغَیۡبِۖ فَبَشِّرۡهُ بِمَغۡفِرَةࣲ وَأَجۡرࣲ كَرِیمٍ ۝١١

You can warn only him who follows the reminder and fears the Beneficent (Allah) without having seen Him, so convey to him the good news of protective forgiveness and an honourable reward.

innamā tundhiru mani ittabaʿa l-dhik'ra wakhashiya l-raḥmāna bil-ghaybi fabashir'hu bimaghfiratin wa-ajrin karīmi

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡیِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَنَكۡتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا۟ وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمۡۚ وَكُلَّ شَیۡءٍ أَحۡصَیۡنَـٰهُ فِیۤ إِمَامࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١٢

We certainly give life to the dead and record the (deeds) which they send before (in advance) and their footprints (work which they leave behind) and We have computed everything in a clear guide (book of deeds).

innā naḥnu nuḥ'yī l-mawtā wanaktubu mā qaddamū waāthārahum wakulla shayin aḥṣaynāhu fī imāmin mubīni

2 Confirmation of the Truth

وَٱضۡرِبۡ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡقَرۡیَةِ إِذۡ جَاۤءَهَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٣

And set forth to them the similitude of the inhabitants of the town, when messengers came to it,

wa-iḍ'rib lahum mathalan aṣḥāba l-qaryati idh jāahā l-mur'salūn

إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِمُ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزۡنَا بِثَالِثࣲ فَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّاۤ إِلَیۡكُم مُّرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٤

when We sent to them two, they denied them both, therefore We strengthened (them) with a third, so they said, “We are messengers (sent) to you.”

idh arsalnā ilayhimu ith'nayni fakadhabūhumā faʿazzaznā bithālithin faqālū innā ilaykum mur'salūn

قَالُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُنَا وَمَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ مِن شَیۡءٍ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا تَكۡذِبُونَ ۝١٥

They said, “You are nothing but men like us and the Beneficent (Allah) has not sent down anything, you do nothing but lie.”

qālū mā antum illā basharun mith'lunā wamā anzala l-raḥmānu min shayin in antum illā takdhibūn

قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا یَعۡلَمُ إِنَّاۤ إِلَیۡكُمۡ لَمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٦

They said, “Our Fosterer knows that we are certainly messengers (sent) to you

qālū rabbunā yaʿlamu innā ilaykum lamur'salūn

وَمَا عَلَیۡنَاۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝١٧

and there is no (responsibility) on us except clear conveyance (of the message).”

wamā ʿalaynā illā l-balāghu l-mubīn

قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا تَطَیَّرۡنَا بِكُمۡۖ لَىِٕن لَّمۡ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرۡجُمَنَّكُمۡ وَلَیَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝١٨

They said, “We consider you to be an evil omen, if you do not desist we will definitely stone you and you will definitely be afflicted by a painful punishment from us.”

qālū innā taṭayyarnā bikum la-in lam tantahū lanarjumannakum walayamassannakum minnā ʿadhābun alīmu

قَالُوا۟ طَـٰۤىِٕرُكُم مَّعَكُمۡ أَىِٕن ذُكِّرۡتُمۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ مُّسۡرِفُونَ ۝١٩

They said, “(Let) your evil omens be with you. What! (you resist us just) because you are reminded, no, you are an extravagant people.”

qālū ṭāirukum maʿakum a-in dhukkir'tum bal antum qawmun mus'rifūn

وَجَاۤءَ مِنۡ أَقۡصَا ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ رَجُلࣱ یَسۡعَىٰ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٢٠

And a man came running from a distant (part) of the city, he said, “O my people! follow the messengers,

wajāa min aqṣā l-madīnati rajulun yasʿā qāla yāqawmi ittabiʿū l-mur'salīn

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا یَسۡءَلُكُمۡ أَجۡرࣰا وَهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ۝٢١

follow those who do not ask you for a reward and who are themselves guided.

ittabiʿū man lā yasalukum ajran wahum muh'tadūn

وَمَا لِیَ لَاۤ أَعۡبُدُ ٱلَّذِی فَطَرَنِی وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٢٢

And what reason do I have not to serve Him Who initiated my creation, and to Him you will be returned.

wamā liya lā aʿbudu alladhī faṭaranī wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn

ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ ءَالِهَةً إِن یُرِدۡنِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ بِضُرࣲّ لَّا تُغۡنِ عَنِّی شَفَـٰعَتُهُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا یُنقِذُونِ ۝٢٣

What! should I take gods besides Him, whose recommendation will not make me free from anything, if the Beneficent (Allah) intends harm, nor will they save me?

a-attakhidhu min dūnihi ālihatan in yurid'ni l-raḥmānu biḍurrin lā tugh'ni ʿannī shafāʿatuhum shayan walā yunqidhūn

إِنِّیۤ إِذࣰا لَّفِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٢٤

Then, in that case, I will certainly be in clear error.

innī idhan lafī ḍalālin mubīni

إِنِّیۤ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمۡ فَٱسۡمَعُونِ ۝٢٥

I have believed in your Fosterer, so listen to me.”

innī āmantu birabbikum fa-is'maʿūn

قِیلَ ٱدۡخُلِ ٱلۡجَنَّةَۖ قَالَ یَـٰلَیۡتَ قَوۡمِی یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٦

It was said, “Enter the garden.” He said, “I wish my people could know

qīla ud'khuli l-janata qāla yālayta qawmī yaʿlamūn

بِمَا غَفَرَ لِی رَبِّی وَجَعَلَنِی مِنَ ٱلۡمُكۡرَمِینَ ۝٢٧

(the reason) because of which my Fosterer protectively forgave me and placed me among the honoured ones.”

bimā ghafara lī rabbī wajaʿalanī mina l-muk'ramīn

۞ وَمَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ مِن جُندࣲ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِینَ ۝٢٨

And after him, We did not send down on his people, any army from the sky, and it was not (necessary) for Us to send,

wamā anzalnā ʿalā qawmihi min baʿdihi min jundin mina l-samāi wamā kunnā munzilīn

إِن كَانَتۡ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَإِذَا هُمۡ خَـٰمِدُونَ ۝٢٩

it was nothing but a single loud cry when they became motionless.

in kānat illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fa-idhā hum khāmidūn

یَـٰحَسۡرَةً عَلَى ٱلۡعِبَادِۚ مَا یَأۡتِیهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٣٠

(Let there be) regret on My servants, there does not come to them any messenger but they mock at him.

yāḥasratan ʿalā l-ʿibādi mā yatīhim min rasūlin illā kānū bihi yastahziūn

أَلَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ كَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمۡ إِلَیۡهِمۡ لَا یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٣١

Did they not consider, how many of the generations did We destroy before them which do not come back to them?

alam yaraw kam ahlaknā qablahum mina l-qurūni annahum ilayhim lā yarjiʿūn

وَإِن كُلࣱّ لَّمَّا جَمِیعࣱ لَّدَیۡنَا مُحۡضَرُونَ ۝٣٢

And all of them, without exception, will be presented before Us.

wa-in kullun lammā jamīʿun ladaynā muḥ'ḍarūn

3 Signs of the Truth

وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ ٱلۡمَیۡتَةُ أَحۡیَیۡنَـٰهَا وَأَخۡرَجۡنَا مِنۡهَا حَبࣰّا فَمِنۡهُ یَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٣٣

And a sign to them is the dead earth, We give life to it and bring out from it grain so they eat of it.

waāyatun lahumu l-arḍu l-maytatu aḥyaynāhā wa-akhrajnā min'hā ḥabban famin'hu yakulūn

وَجَعَلۡنَا فِیهَا جَنَّـٰتࣲ مِّن نَّخِیلࣲ وَأَعۡنَـٰبࣲ وَفَجَّرۡنَا فِیهَا مِنَ ٱلۡعُیُونِ ۝٣٤

And We have made therein gardens of date palms and grapes and We have caused the springs to gush forth therein,

wajaʿalnā fīhā jannātin min nakhīlin wa-aʿnābin wafajjarnā fīhā mina l-ʿuyūn

لِیَأۡكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتۡهُ أَیۡدِیهِمۡۚ أَفَلَا یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٣٥

that they may eat of its fruit, and their hands did not make it. Will they not then be grateful?

liyakulū min thamarihi wamā ʿamilathu aydīhim afalā yashkurūn

سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلۡأَزۡوَ ٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمِنۡ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَمِمَّا لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٦

Glory be to Him Who created pairs of everything, of that which the earth grows and of themselves and of that which they do not know.

sub'ḥāna alladhī khalaqa l-azwāja kullahā mimmā tunbitu l-arḍu wamin anfusihim wamimmā lā yaʿlamūn

وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّیۡلُ نَسۡلَخُ مِنۡهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظۡلِمُونَ ۝٣٧

And a sign for them is the night, We cause the day to slip off from it, when (again) they are in darkness.

waāyatun lahumu al-laylu naslakhu min'hu l-nahāra fa-idhā hum muẓ'limūn

وَٱلشَّمۡسُ تَجۡرِی لِمُسۡتَقَرࣲّ لَّهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ تَقۡدِیرُ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡعَلِیمِ ۝٣٨

And the sun moves on for the time (and) in the space (appointed for) it. That is the programme of the Mighty, the Knowing.

wal-shamsu tajrī limus'taqarrin lahā dhālika taqdīru l-ʿazīzi l-ʿalīm

وَٱلۡقَمَرَ قَدَّرۡنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلۡعُرۡجُونِ ٱلۡقَدِیمِ ۝٣٩

And the moon, We have programmed for it stages (in space and time) till it returns like an old dry palm branch.

wal-qamara qaddarnāhu manāzila ḥattā ʿāda kal-ʿur'jūni l-qadīm

لَا ٱلشَّمۡسُ یَنۢبَغِی لَهَاۤ أَن تُدۡرِكَ ٱلۡقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّیۡلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِۚ وَكُلࣱّ فِی فَلَكࣲ یَسۡبَحُونَ ۝٤٠

Neither it is possible for the sun to catch (up with) the moon, nor can the night outstrip the day and each moves fast in an orbit.

lā l-shamsu yanbaghī lahā an tud'rika l-qamara walā al-laylu sābiqu l-nahāri wakullun fī falakin yasbaḥūn

وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمۡ أَنَّا حَمَلۡنَا ذُرِّیَّتَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ۝٤١

And a sign for them is that We carried their progeny in the loaded ship.

waāyatun lahum annā ḥamalnā dhurriyyatahum fī l-ful'ki l-mashḥūn

وَخَلَقۡنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثۡلِهِۦ مَا یَرۡكَبُونَ ۝٤٢

And We created for them (vessels) similar to it, on which they ride.

wakhalaqnā lahum min mith'lihi mā yarkabūn

وَإِن نَّشَأۡ نُغۡرِقۡهُمۡ فَلَا صَرِیخَ لَهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنقَذُونَ ۝٤٣

And if We will We can drown them, then there will be no one (to respond) to their cry for help nor will they be saved,

wa-in nasha nugh'riq'hum falā ṣarīkha lahum walā hum yunqadhūn

إِلَّا رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنَّا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٤٤

but (if this does not happen, it is due to) the mercy from Us and a provision till a time.

illā raḥmatan minnā wamatāʿan ilā ḥīni

وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیكُمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝٤٥

And (they are heedless) when it is said to them, “Guard (yourselves against) that which is before you and that which is behind you that you may be dealt with mercifully.”

wa-idhā qīla lahumu ittaqū mā bayna aydīkum wamā khalfakum laʿallakum tur'ḥamūn

وَمَا تَأۡتِیهِم مِّنۡ ءَایَةࣲ مِّنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِینَ ۝٤٦

And there does not come to them any sign from the signs of their Fosterer but they turn away from it.

wamā tatīhim min āyatin min āyāti rabbihim illā kānū ʿanhā muʿ'riḍīn

وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمۡ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَنُطۡعِمُ مَن لَّوۡ یَشَاۤءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطۡعَمَهُۥۤ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٤٧

And when it is said to them, “Spend from that which Allah has provided for you,” those who do not believe say to those who believe, “Should we feed him, whom Allah (Himself) could feed, if He wills? You are in nothing but clear error.”

wa-idhā qīla lahum anfiqū mimmā razaqakumu l-lahu qāla alladhīna kafarū lilladhīna āmanū anuṭ'ʿimu man law yashāu l-lahu aṭʿamahu in antum illā fī ḍalālin mubīni

وَیَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٤٨

And they say, “When will the promise (be fulfilled) if you are truthful?”

wayaqūlūna matā hādhā l-waʿdu in kuntum ṣādiqīn

مَا یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ تَأۡخُذُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ یَخِصِّمُونَ ۝٤٩

They do not wait for anything but a single loud cry which will take hold of them while they are (involved) in a tussle with each other,

mā yanẓurūna illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan takhudhuhum wahum yakhiṣṣimūn

فَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ تَوۡصِیَةࣰ وَلَاۤ إِلَىٰۤ أَهۡلِهِمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٥٠

so that they will neither be able to make a bequest nor will they be able to return to their own people.

falā yastaṭīʿūna tawṣiyatan walā ilā ahlihim yarjiʿūn

4 Reward and Punishment

وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ یَنسِلُونَ ۝٥١

And it will be blown into the trumpet (structure of the universe) when they will rush forth from their graves towards their Fosterer,

wanufikha fī l-ṣūri fa-idhā hum mina l-ajdāthi ilā rabbihim yansilūn

قَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرۡقَدِنَاۜۗ هَـٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝٥٢

saying, “Sorrowful is our state, who has raised us from our sleeping place? This is what the Beneficent (Allah) had promised and the messengers had spoken the truth.”

qālū yāwaylanā man baʿathanā min marqadinā hādhā mā waʿada l-raḥmānu waṣadaqa l-mur'salūn

إِن كَانَتۡ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَإِذَا هُمۡ جَمِیعࣱ لَّدَیۡنَا مُحۡضَرُونَ ۝٥٣

It will be nothing but a single loud cry when all of them will be presented before Us.

in kānat illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fa-idhā hum jamīʿun ladaynā muḥ'ḍarūn

فَٱلۡیَوۡمَ لَا تُظۡلَمُ نَفۡسࣱ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٥٤

So on that day, no soul will be dealt with unjustly in anything and you will not be rewarded for anything but for that which you used to do.

fal-yawma lā tuẓ'lamu nafsun shayan walā tuj'zawna illā mā kuntum taʿmalūn

إِنَّ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ فِی شُغُلࣲ فَـٰكِهُونَ ۝٥٥

On that day, the inhabitants of the garden will certainly be in a joyful occupation,

inna aṣḥāba l-janati l-yawma fī shughulin fākihūn

هُمۡ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجُهُمۡ فِی ظِلَـٰلٍ عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَاۤىِٕكِ مُتَّكِءُونَ ۝٥٦

they and their mates (will be) in shades, reclining on couches.

hum wa-azwājuhum fī ẓilālin ʿalā l-arāiki muttakiūn

لَهُمۡ فِیهَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَلَهُم مَّا یَدَّعُونَ ۝٥٧

For them there will be fruits and for them (there will be) what they ask for.

lahum fīhā fākihatun walahum mā yaddaʿūn

سَلَـٰمࣱ قَوۡلࣰا مِّن رَّبࣲّ رَّحِیمࣲ ۝٥٨

‘Peace,’ (will be) the word from the Merciful Fosterer.

salāmun qawlan min rabbin raḥīmi

وَٱمۡتَـٰزُوا۟ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ أَیُّهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٥٩

(Allah will say), “Separate on this day, O you criminals!

wa-im'tāzū l-yawma ayyuhā l-muj'rimūn

۞ أَلَمۡ أَعۡهَدۡ إِلَیۡكُمۡ یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ أَن لَّا تَعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنَۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمۡ عَدُوࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٦٠

Had I not enjoined on you, O children of Adam! that you should not serve the devil, (as) he is your open enemy,

alam aʿhad ilaykum yābanī ādama an lā taʿbudū l-shayṭāna innahu lakum ʿaduwwun mubīnu

وَأَنِ ٱعۡبُدُونِیۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطࣱ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣱ ۝٦١

and that you should serve Me, this is the straight path?

wa-ani uʿ'budūnī hādhā ṣirāṭun mus'taqīmu

وَلَقَدۡ أَضَلَّ مِنكُمۡ جِبِلࣰّا كَثِیرًاۖ أَفَلَمۡ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٦٢

And he had indeed led astray a large group of people from among you, then were you not having sense?

walaqad aḍalla minkum jibillan kathīran afalam takūnū taʿqilūn

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِی كُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ ۝٦٣

This is the hell you were threatened with,

hādhihi jahannamu allatī kuntum tūʿadūn

ٱصۡلَوۡهَا ٱلۡیَوۡمَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٦٤

enter it this day, because you did not believe.”

iṣ'lawhā l-yawma bimā kuntum takfurūn

ٱلۡیَوۡمَ نَخۡتِمُ عَلَىٰۤ أَفۡوَ ٰهِهِمۡ وَتُكَلِّمُنَاۤ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَتَشۡهَدُ أَرۡجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٦٥

This day We will put a seal on their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us and their feet will bear witness of that which they used to earn.

al-yawma nakhtimu ʿalā afwāhihim watukallimunā aydīhim watashhadu arjuluhum bimā kānū yaksibūn

وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَطَمَسۡنَا عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡیُنِهِمۡ فَٱسۡتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَ ٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٦٦

And if We will We could wipe off their eyes, then they would strive for the path, but how will they be able to see?

walaw nashāu laṭamasnā ʿalā aʿyunihim fa-is'tabaqū l-ṣirāṭa fa-annā yub'ṣirūn

وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَمَسَخۡنَـٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمۡ فَمَا ٱسۡتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مُضِیࣰّا وَلَا یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٦٧

And if We will We could transform them in their places, then they would not be able to go forward or to return.

walaw nashāu lamasakhnāhum ʿalā makānatihim famā is'taṭāʿū muḍiyyan walā yarjiʿūn

5 The Resurrection

وَمَن نُّعَمِّرۡهُ نُنَكِّسۡهُ فِی ٱلۡخَلۡقِۚ أَفَلَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٦٨

And he to whom We give a long life, We reverse him in creation (instead of growing he starts decaying). Do they not then understand?

waman nuʿammir'hu nunakkis'hu fī l-khalqi afalā yaʿqilūn

وَمَا عَلَّمۡنَـٰهُ ٱلشِّعۡرَ وَمَا یَنۢبَغِی لَهُۥۤۚ إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرࣱ وَقُرۡءَانࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٦٩

And We have not taught him (Muhammed) poetry and it is not suitable for him, it is nothing but a reminder and a Quran (that makes things) clear,

wamā ʿallamnāhu l-shiʿ'ra wamā yanbaghī lahu in huwa illā dhik'run waqur'ānun mubīnu

لِّیُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَیࣰّا وَیَحِقَّ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ عَلَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٧٠

that he who is alive may be warned and the word may be proved true against the infidels.

liyundhira man kāna ḥayyan wayaḥiqqa l-qawlu ʿalā l-kāfirīn

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّا خَلَقۡنَا لَهُم مِّمَّا عَمِلَتۡ أَیۡدِینَاۤ أَنۡعَـٰمࣰا فَهُمۡ لَهَا مَـٰلِكُونَ ۝٧١

Did they not see that We have created the cattle for them, among that which Our hands have done, then they are their masters?

awalam yaraw annā khalaqnā lahum mimmā ʿamilat aydīnā anʿāman fahum lahā mālikūn

وَذَلَّلۡنَـٰهَا لَهُمۡ فَمِنۡهَا رَكُوبُهُمۡ وَمِنۡهَا یَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٧٢

And We have subdued them for their (use), so among them are (some on) whom they ride and (some) of them they eat.

wadhallalnāhā lahum famin'hā rakūbuhum wamin'hā yakulūn

وَلَهُمۡ فِیهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُۚ أَفَلَا یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٣

And they have (other) benefits in them and drinks. Will they not then be grateful?

walahum fīhā manāfiʿu wamashāribu afalā yashkurūn

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةࣰ لَّعَلَّهُمۡ یُنصَرُونَ ۝٧٤

And they have taken gods besides Allah that they may be helped.

wa-ittakhadhū min dūni l-lahi ālihatan laʿallahum yunṣarūn

لَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ نَصۡرَهُمۡ وَهُمۡ لَهُمۡ جُندࣱ مُّحۡضَرُونَ ۝٧٥

They are not capable of helping them, and they (their false gods, supposed to be a) force for them, will (also) be presented (before Allah).

lā yastaṭīʿūna naṣrahum wahum lahum jundun muḥ'ḍarūn

فَلَا یَحۡزُنكَ قَوۡلُهُمۡۘ إِنَّا نَعۡلَمُ مَا یُسِرُّونَ وَمَا یُعۡلِنُونَ ۝٧٦

So do not let their speech grieve you, We know that which they keep secret and that which they make public.

falā yaḥzunka qawluhum innā naʿlamu mā yusirrūna wamā yuʿ'linūn

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطۡفَةࣲ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِیمࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٧٧

H as not man considered that We created him from a sperm* even then he is an open disputant. * See note no. 1 of chapter 16, Verse 4.

awalam yara l-insānu annā khalaqnāhu min nuṭ'fatin fa-idhā huwa khaṣīmun mubīnu

وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلࣰا وَنَسِیَ خَلۡقَهُۥۖ قَالَ مَن یُحۡیِ ٱلۡعِظَـٰمَ وَهِیَ رَمِیمࣱ ۝٧٨

And he strikes a similitude for Us and forgets his own creation, saying, “Who will give life to the bones when they are decomposed?”

waḍaraba lanā mathalan wanasiya khalqahu qāla man yuḥ'yī l-ʿiẓāma wahiya ramīmu

قُلۡ یُحۡیِیهَا ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَهَاۤ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلۡقٍ عَلِیمٌ ۝٧٩

Say, “He will give life to them Who produced them the first time and He knows every (kind of) creation.

qul yuḥ'yīhā alladhī ansha-ahā awwala marratin wahuwa bikulli khalqin ʿalīmu

ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلۡأَخۡضَرِ نَارࣰا فَإِذَاۤ أَنتُم مِّنۡهُ تُوقِدُونَ ۝٨٠

He it is Who made the fire for you from the green trees, so that you get your fuel from it.

alladhī jaʿala lakum mina l-shajari l-akhḍari nāran fa-idhā antum min'hu tūqidūn

أَوَ لَیۡسَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰۤ أَن یَخۡلُقَ مِثۡلَهُمۚ بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلۡخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٨١

Is not He Who created the skies and the earth, able to create the like of them, why not? And He is the Great Creator Who knows.

awalaysa alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa biqādirin ʿalā an yakhluqa mith'lahum balā wahuwa l-khalāqu l-ʿalīm

إِنَّمَاۤ أَمۡرُهُۥۤ إِذَاۤ أَرَادَ شَیۡءًا أَن یَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَیَكُونُ ۝٨٢

His command, when He intends anything, is that He says to it only, ‘Be’, so it is.”

innamā amruhu idhā arāda shayan an yaqūla lahu kun fayakūn

فَسُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِی بِیَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٨٣

So glory be to Him in Whose hand is the kingdom of everything and to Him you will be returned.

fasub'ḥāna alladhī biyadihi malakūtu kulli shayin wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn
