1 Truth of the Qur'an

وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ٱلۡحَكِیمِ ۝٢

By the Qur'an, full of wisdom

wal-qur'āni l-ḥakīm

إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٣

Thou art, indeed, one of the Messengers

innaka lamina l-mur'salīn

عَلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٤

On the right path

tanzīla l-ʿazīzi l-raḥīm

تَنزِیلَ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلرَّحِیمِ ۝٥

This is a revelation from the Mighty, the Merciful

Tanzeela alAAazeezi alrraheemi

لِتُنذِرَ قَوۡمࣰا مَّاۤ أُنذِرَ ءَابَاۤؤُهُمۡ فَهُمۡ غَـٰفِلُونَ ۝٦

That thou mayest warn a people whose fathers were not warned, and so they are heedless

litundhira qawman mā undhira ābāuhum fahum ghāfilūn

لَقَدۡ حَقَّ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ عَلَىٰۤ أَكۡثَرِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٧

Surely, the word has proved true against most of them, for they believe not

laqad ḥaqqa l-qawlu ʿalā aktharihim fahum lā yu'minūn

إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا فِیۤ أَعۡنَـٰقِهِمۡ أَغۡلَـٰلࣰا فَهِیَ إِلَى ٱلۡأَذۡقَانِ فَهُم مُّقۡمَحُونَ ۝٨

WE have put round their necks collars reaching unto their chins, so that their heads are raised up

innā jaʿalnā fī aʿnāqihim aghlālan fahiya ilā l-adhqāni fahum muq'maḥūn

وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنۢ بَیۡنِ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ سَدࣰّا وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِمۡ سَدࣰّا فَأَغۡشَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٩

And WE have set a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, and have covered them over, so that they cannot see

wajaʿalnā min bayni aydīhim saddan wamin khalfihim saddan fa-aghshaynāhum fahum lā yub'ṣirūn

وَسَوَاۤءٌ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ أَمۡ لَمۡ تُنذِرۡهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٠

Alike it is to them whether thou warn them or warn them not; they will not believe

wasawāon ʿalayhim a-andhartahum am lam tundhir'hum lā yu'minūn

إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَخَشِیَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنَ بِٱلۡغَیۡبِۖ فَبَشِّرۡهُ بِمَغۡفِرَةࣲ وَأَجۡرࣲ كَرِیمٍ ۝١١

Thou canst warn only him who would follow the Reminder and fear the Gracious God in secret. So give him the glad tidings of forgiveness and a noble reward

innamā tundhiru mani ittabaʿa l-dhik'ra wakhashiya l-raḥmāna bil-ghaybi fabashir'hu bimaghfiratin wa-ajrin karīmi

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡیِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَنَكۡتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا۟ وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمۡۚ وَكُلَّ شَیۡءٍ أَحۡصَیۡنَـٰهُ فِیۤ إِمَامࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١٢

Surely, WE alone give life to the dead, and WE write down that which they send forward and that which they leave behind; and all things WE have recorded in a clear Book

innā naḥnu nuḥ'yī l-mawtā wanaktubu mā qaddamū waāthārahum wakulla shayin aḥṣaynāhu fī imāmin mubīni

2 Confirmation of the Truth

وَٱضۡرِبۡ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡقَرۡیَةِ إِذۡ جَاۤءَهَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٣

And set forth to them the parable of a people of the town, when the Messengers came to it

wa-iḍ'rib lahum mathalan aṣḥāba l-qaryati idh jāahā l-mur'salūn

إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِمُ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزۡنَا بِثَالِثࣲ فَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّاۤ إِلَیۡكُم مُّرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٤

When WE sent to them two Messengers they rejected them both; so WE strengthened them by a third; and they said, `Verily, we have been sent to you as Messengers.

idh arsalnā ilayhimu ith'nayni fakadhabūhumā faʿazzaznā bithālithin faqālū innā ilaykum mur'salūn

قَالُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُنَا وَمَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ مِن شَیۡءٍ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا تَكۡذِبُونَ ۝١٥

They replied, `You are only human beings like us and the Gracious God has not revealed anything. You are only lying.

qālū mā antum illā basharun mith'lunā wamā anzala l-raḥmānu min shayin in antum illā takdhibūn

قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا یَعۡلَمُ إِنَّاۤ إِلَیۡكُمۡ لَمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٦

They said, `Our Lord knows that we are, indeed HIS Messengers to you

qālū rabbunā yaʿlamu innā ilaykum lamur'salūn

وَمَا عَلَیۡنَاۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝١٧

`And our duty is only plain delivery of the Message.

wamā ʿalaynā illā l-balāghu l-mubīn

قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا تَطَیَّرۡنَا بِكُمۡۖ لَىِٕن لَّمۡ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرۡجُمَنَّكُمۡ وَلَیَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝١٨

The disbelievers said, `Surely, we augur evil fortune from you; if you desist not, we will, certainly, stone you, and a painful punishment will, surely, befall you at our hands.

qālū innā taṭayyarnā bikum la-in lam tantahū lanarjumannakum walayamassannakum minnā ʿadhābun alīmu

قَالُوا۟ طَـٰۤىِٕرُكُم مَّعَكُمۡ أَىِٕن ذُكِّرۡتُمۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ مُّسۡرِفُونَ ۝١٩

The Messengers replied, `Your evil fortune is with your ownselves. Do you say this because you have been admonished? Nay, you are a people transgressing all bounds.

qālū ṭāirukum maʿakum a-in dhukkir'tum bal antum qawmun mus'rifūn

وَجَاۤءَ مِنۡ أَقۡصَا ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ رَجُلࣱ یَسۡعَىٰ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٢٠

And from the farthest part of the town there came a man running. He said, `O my People, follow the Messengers

wajāa min aqṣā l-madīnati rajulun yasʿā qāla yāqawmi ittabiʿū l-mur'salīn

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا یَسۡءَلُكُمۡ أَجۡرࣰا وَهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ۝٢١

`Follow those who ask of you no reward, and who are rightly guided

ittabiʿū man lā yasalukum ajran wahum muh'tadūn

وَمَا لِیَ لَاۤ أَعۡبُدُ ٱلَّذِی فَطَرَنِی وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٢٢

`And why should I not worship HIM Who has created me, and unto Whom you will be brought back

wamā liya lā aʿbudu alladhī faṭaranī wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn

ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ ءَالِهَةً إِن یُرِدۡنِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ بِضُرࣲّ لَّا تُغۡنِ عَنِّی شَفَـٰعَتُهُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا یُنقِذُونِ ۝٢٣

`Shall I take others beside HIM as gods? If the Gracious God should intend me any harm, their intercession will avail me naught, nor can they rescue me

a-attakhidhu min dūnihi ālihatan in yurid'ni l-raḥmānu biḍurrin lā tugh'ni ʿannī shafāʿatuhum shayan walā yunqidhūn

إِنِّیۤ إِذࣰا لَّفِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٢٤

`In that case I should, indeed, be in manifest error

innī idhan lafī ḍalālin mubīni

إِنِّیۤ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمۡ فَٱسۡمَعُونِ ۝٢٥

`I believe in your Lord; so listen to me.

innī āmantu birabbikum fa-is'maʿūn

قِیلَ ٱدۡخُلِ ٱلۡجَنَّةَۖ قَالَ یَـٰلَیۡتَ قَوۡمِی یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٦

It was said to him, Do thou enter Paradise.' He said, `O, would that my people knew

qīla ud'khuli l-janata qāla yālayta qawmī yaʿlamūn

بِمَا غَفَرَ لِی رَبِّی وَجَعَلَنِی مِنَ ٱلۡمُكۡرَمِینَ ۝٢٧

`How graciously my Lord has granted me forgiveness and has made me of the honoured ones !

bimā ghafara lī rabbī wajaʿalanī mina l-muk'ramīn

۞ وَمَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ مِن جُندࣲ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِینَ ۝٢٨

And WE sent not down against his people, after him, any host from heaven, nor do WE send down any such

wamā anzalnā ʿalā qawmihi min baʿdihi min jundin mina l-samāi wamā kunnā munzilīn

إِن كَانَتۡ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَإِذَا هُمۡ خَـٰمِدُونَ ۝٢٩

It was but a single blast and lo ! they were extinct

in kānat illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fa-idhā hum khāmidūn

یَـٰحَسۡرَةً عَلَى ٱلۡعِبَادِۚ مَا یَأۡتِیهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٣٠

Alas for my servants ! there comes not a Messenger to them but they mock at him

yāḥasratan ʿalā l-ʿibādi mā yatīhim min rasūlin illā kānū bihi yastahziūn

أَلَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ كَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمۡ إِلَیۡهِمۡ لَا یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٣١

Do they not see how many generations WE have destroyed before them, and that they never come back to them

alam yaraw kam ahlaknā qablahum mina l-qurūni annahum ilayhim lā yarjiʿūn

وَإِن كُلࣱّ لَّمَّا جَمِیعࣱ لَّدَیۡنَا مُحۡضَرُونَ ۝٣٢

And all of them, gathered together, will certainly be brought before US

wa-in kullun lammā jamīʿun ladaynā muḥ'ḍarūn

3 Signs of the Truth

وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ ٱلۡمَیۡتَةُ أَحۡیَیۡنَـٰهَا وَأَخۡرَجۡنَا مِنۡهَا حَبࣰّا فَمِنۡهُ یَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٣٣

And the dead earth is a Sign for them; WE quicken it and bring forth therefrom grain, of which they eat

waāyatun lahumu l-arḍu l-maytatu aḥyaynāhā wa-akhrajnā min'hā ḥabban famin'hu yakulūn

وَجَعَلۡنَا فِیهَا جَنَّـٰتࣲ مِّن نَّخِیلࣲ وَأَعۡنَـٰبࣲ وَفَجَّرۡنَا فِیهَا مِنَ ٱلۡعُیُونِ ۝٣٤

And WE have placed in it Gardens of date-palms and grapes, and WE have caused springs to gush forth therein

wajaʿalnā fīhā jannātin min nakhīlin wa-aʿnābin wafajjarnā fīhā mina l-ʿuyūn

لِیَأۡكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتۡهُ أَیۡدِیهِمۡۚ أَفَلَا یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٣٥

That they may eat of the fruit thereof, and it was not there hands that made them grow up. Will they not then be grateful

liyakulū min thamarihi wamā ʿamilathu aydīhim afalā yashkurūn

سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلۡأَزۡوَ ٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمِنۡ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَمِمَّا لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٦

Holy is HE Who created all things in pairs, of what the earth grows and of themselves, and of what they know not

sub'ḥāna alladhī khalaqa l-azwāja kullahā mimmā tunbitu l-arḍu wamin anfusihim wamimmā lā yaʿlamūn

وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّیۡلُ نَسۡلَخُ مِنۡهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظۡلِمُونَ ۝٣٧

And a Sign for them is the night from which WE strip off the day, and lo ! they are left in darkness

waāyatun lahumu al-laylu naslakhu min'hu l-nahāra fa-idhā hum muẓ'limūn

وَٱلشَّمۡسُ تَجۡرِی لِمُسۡتَقَرࣲّ لَّهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ تَقۡدِیرُ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡعَلِیمِ ۝٣٨

And the sun is moving on to its determined goal. That is the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing God

wal-shamsu tajrī limus'taqarrin lahā dhālika taqdīru l-ʿazīzi l-ʿalīm

وَٱلۡقَمَرَ قَدَّرۡنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلۡعُرۡجُونِ ٱلۡقَدِیمِ ۝٣٩

And for the moon WE have appointed stages, till it becomes again like an old dry twig of a palm-tree

wal-qamara qaddarnāhu manāzila ḥattā ʿāda kal-ʿur'jūni l-qadīm

لَا ٱلشَّمۡسُ یَنۢبَغِی لَهَاۤ أَن تُدۡرِكَ ٱلۡقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّیۡلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِۚ وَكُلࣱّ فِی فَلَكࣲ یَسۡبَحُونَ ۝٤٠

It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor can the night outstrip the day. All of them float smoothly in an orbit

lā l-shamsu yanbaghī lahā an tud'rika l-qamara walā al-laylu sābiqu l-nahāri wakullun fī falakin yasbaḥūn

وَءَایَةࣱ لَّهُمۡ أَنَّا حَمَلۡنَا ذُرِّیَّتَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ۝٤١

And a Sign for them is that WE carry their offspring in the laden ships

waāyatun lahum annā ḥamalnā dhurriyyatahum fī l-ful'ki l-mashḥūn

وَخَلَقۡنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثۡلِهِۦ مَا یَرۡكَبُونَ ۝٤٢

And WE will create for them the like thereof whereon they will ride

wakhalaqnā lahum min mith'lihi mā yarkabūn

وَإِن نَّشَأۡ نُغۡرِقۡهُمۡ فَلَا صَرِیخَ لَهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنقَذُونَ ۝٤٣

And if WE so willed, WE could drown them; then they would have no one to succour them, nor would they be rescued

wa-in nasha nugh'riq'hum falā ṣarīkha lahum walā hum yunqadhūn

إِلَّا رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنَّا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٤٤

Except through mercy from US and a provision for a time

illā raḥmatan minnā wamatāʿan ilā ḥīni

وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیكُمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝٤٥

And when it is said to them, `Guard yourselves against that which is before you through Prayer and that which is behind you through repentance, that you may receive mercy,' they turn away

wa-idhā qīla lahumu ittaqū mā bayna aydīkum wamā khalfakum laʿallakum tur'ḥamūn

وَمَا تَأۡتِیهِم مِّنۡ ءَایَةࣲ مِّنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِینَ ۝٤٦

And there comes not to them any Sign out of the Signs of their Lord, but they turn away from it

wamā tatīhim min āyatin min āyāti rabbihim illā kānū ʿanhā muʿ'riḍīn

وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمۡ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَنُطۡعِمُ مَن لَّوۡ یَشَاۤءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطۡعَمَهُۥۤ إِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٤٧

And when it is said to them, `Spend out of that which ALLAH has given you,' those who disbelieve say to those who believe, `Shall we feed him whom ALLAH would have fed, if HE had so willed? You are but in manifest error.

wa-idhā qīla lahum anfiqū mimmā razaqakumu l-lahu qāla alladhīna kafarū lilladhīna āmanū anuṭ'ʿimu man law yashāu l-lahu aṭʿamahu in antum illā fī ḍalālin mubīni

وَیَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٤٨

And they say, `When will this promise of punishment be fulfilled, if you are truthful?

wayaqūlūna matā hādhā l-waʿdu in kuntum ṣādiqīn

مَا یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ تَأۡخُذُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ یَخِصِّمُونَ ۝٤٩

They are waiting only for a single blast which will seize them while they are still disputing

mā yanẓurūna illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan takhudhuhum wahum yakhiṣṣimūn

فَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ تَوۡصِیَةࣰ وَلَاۤ إِلَىٰۤ أَهۡلِهِمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٥٠

And they will not be able to make a will nor will they return to their families

falā yastaṭīʿūna tawṣiyatan walā ilā ahlihim yarjiʿūn

4 Reward and Punishment

وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ یَنسِلُونَ ۝٥١

And the trumpet shall be blown, and lo ! from the graves they will hasten on to their Lord

wanufikha fī l-ṣūri fa-idhā hum mina l-ajdāthi ilā rabbihim yansilūn

قَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرۡقَدِنَاۜۗ هَـٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝٥٢

They will say to one another, `O woe to us ! who has raised us from our place of sleep? This is what the Gracious God had promised, and the Messengers, indeed, spoke the truth.

qālū yāwaylanā man baʿathanā min marqadinā hādhā mā waʿada l-raḥmānu waṣadaqa l-mur'salūn

إِن كَانَتۡ إِلَّا صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَإِذَا هُمۡ جَمِیعࣱ لَّدَیۡنَا مُحۡضَرُونَ ۝٥٣

It will be one blast and lo ! they will all be brought before US

in kānat illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fa-idhā hum jamīʿun ladaynā muḥ'ḍarūn

فَٱلۡیَوۡمَ لَا تُظۡلَمُ نَفۡسࣱ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٥٤

And on that day no soul will be wronged in aught; nor will you be requited but for what you used to do

fal-yawma lā tuẓ'lamu nafsun shayan walā tuj'zawna illā mā kuntum taʿmalūn

إِنَّ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ فِی شُغُلࣲ فَـٰكِهُونَ ۝٥٥

Verily, the inmates of heaven will, on that day, be happy in their occupation

inna aṣḥāba l-janati l-yawma fī shughulin fākihūn

هُمۡ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجُهُمۡ فِی ظِلَـٰلٍ عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَاۤىِٕكِ مُتَّكِءُونَ ۝٥٦

They and their wives will be in pleasant shades, reclining on raised couches

hum wa-azwājuhum fī ẓilālin ʿalā l-arāiki muttakiūn

لَهُمۡ فِیهَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَلَهُم مَّا یَدَّعُونَ ۝٥٧

They will have fruits therein, and they will have whatever they call for

lahum fīhā fākihatun walahum mā yaddaʿūn

سَلَـٰمࣱ قَوۡلࣰا مِّن رَّبࣲّ رَّحِیمࣲ ۝٥٨

They will be greeted with Peace - a word of greeting from the Merciful Lord

salāmun qawlan min rabbin raḥīmi

وَٱمۡتَـٰزُوا۟ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ أَیُّهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٥٩

And God will say, `Separate yourselves from the righteous this day, O ye guilty ones

wa-im'tāzū l-yawma ayyuhā l-muj'rimūn

۞ أَلَمۡ أَعۡهَدۡ إِلَیۡكُمۡ یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ أَن لَّا تَعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنَۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمۡ عَدُوࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٦٠

`Did I not enjoin on you, O ye sons of Adam, that you worship not Satan - for he is to you an open enemy

alam aʿhad ilaykum yābanī ādama an lā taʿbudū l-shayṭāna innahu lakum ʿaduwwun mubīnu

وَأَنِ ٱعۡبُدُونِیۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطࣱ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣱ ۝٦١

`And that you worship ME? This is the right path

wa-ani uʿ'budūnī hādhā ṣirāṭun mus'taqīmu

وَلَقَدۡ أَضَلَّ مِنكُمۡ جِبِلࣰّا كَثِیرًاۖ أَفَلَمۡ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٦٢

`And he did lead astray a great multitude of you. Why did you not then understand

walaqad aḍalla minkum jibillan kathīran afalam takūnū taʿqilūn

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِی كُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ ۝٦٣

`This is Hell which you were promised

hādhihi jahannamu allatī kuntum tūʿadūn

ٱصۡلَوۡهَا ٱلۡیَوۡمَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٦٤

`Enter it this day because you disbelieved.

iṣ'lawhā l-yawma bimā kuntum takfurūn

ٱلۡیَوۡمَ نَخۡتِمُ عَلَىٰۤ أَفۡوَ ٰهِهِمۡ وَتُكَلِّمُنَاۤ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَتَشۡهَدُ أَرۡجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٦٥

This day we shall put a seal on their mouths, and their hands will speak to US, and their feet will bear witness to what they had earned

al-yawma nakhtimu ʿalā afwāhihim watukallimunā aydīhim watashhadu arjuluhum bimā kānū yaksibūn

وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَطَمَسۡنَا عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡیُنِهِمۡ فَٱسۡتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَ ٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٦٦

And if WE had so willed, WE could have put out their eyes, then they would have rushed unseeing to find the way. But, how could they see

walaw nashāu laṭamasnā ʿalā aʿyunihim fa-is'tabaqū l-ṣirāṭa fa-annā yub'ṣirūn

وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَمَسَخۡنَـٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمۡ فَمَا ٱسۡتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مُضِیࣰّا وَلَا یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٦٧

And if WE had so willed, WE could have transformed them in their places, then they would not be able to move forward or turn back

walaw nashāu lamasakhnāhum ʿalā makānatihim famā is'taṭāʿū muḍiyyan walā yarjiʿūn

5 The Resurrection

وَمَن نُّعَمِّرۡهُ نُنَكِّسۡهُ فِی ٱلۡخَلۡقِۚ أَفَلَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٦٨

And him whom WE grant long life - WE revert him to a weak state in creation. Will they not then understand

waman nuʿammir'hu nunakkis'hu fī l-khalqi afalā yaʿqilūn

وَمَا عَلَّمۡنَـٰهُ ٱلشِّعۡرَ وَمَا یَنۢبَغِی لَهُۥۤۚ إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرࣱ وَقُرۡءَانࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٦٩

And WE have not taught him poetry, nor does it behove him to be a poet. It is but a reminder and a Qur'an that expounds and makes things plain

wamā ʿallamnāhu l-shiʿ'ra wamā yanbaghī lahu in huwa illā dhik'run waqur'ānun mubīnu

لِّیُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَیࣰّا وَیَحِقَّ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ عَلَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٧٠

That it may warn all who are alive, and that the decree of ALLAH may be fulfilled concerning the disbelievers

liyundhira man kāna ḥayyan wayaḥiqqa l-qawlu ʿalā l-kāfirīn

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّا خَلَقۡنَا لَهُم مِّمَّا عَمِلَتۡ أَیۡدِینَاۤ أَنۡعَـٰمࣰا فَهُمۡ لَهَا مَـٰلِكُونَ ۝٧١

Do they not see that, among the things which Our hands have wrought, WE have created for them cattle of which they are masters

awalam yaraw annā khalaqnā lahum mimmā ʿamilat aydīnā anʿāman fahum lahā mālikūn

وَذَلَّلۡنَـٰهَا لَهُمۡ فَمِنۡهَا رَكُوبُهُمۡ وَمِنۡهَا یَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٧٢

And WE have subjected the same to them, so that some of them they use for riding, and of the flesh of some they eat

wadhallalnāhā lahum famin'hā rakūbuhum wamin'hā yakulūn

وَلَهُمۡ فِیهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُۚ أَفَلَا یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٣

And in them they have other uses, and also drinks. Will they not, then, be grateful

walahum fīhā manāfiʿu wamashāribu afalā yashkurūn

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةࣰ لَّعَلَّهُمۡ یُنصَرُونَ ۝٧٤

And they have taken other gods beside ALLAH that they might be helped

wa-ittakhadhū min dūni l-lahi ālihatan laʿallahum yunṣarūn

لَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ نَصۡرَهُمۡ وَهُمۡ لَهُمۡ جُندࣱ مُّحۡضَرُونَ ۝٧٥

But they are not able to help them. On the contrary, they will be brought before God in a body to bear witness against them

lā yastaṭīʿūna naṣrahum wahum lahum jundun muḥ'ḍarūn

فَلَا یَحۡزُنكَ قَوۡلُهُمۡۘ إِنَّا نَعۡلَمُ مَا یُسِرُّونَ وَمَا یُعۡلِنُونَ ۝٧٦

So let not their speech grieve thee. Verily, WE know what they conceal and what they proclaim

falā yaḥzunka qawluhum innā naʿlamu mā yusirrūna wamā yuʿ'linūn

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطۡفَةࣲ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِیمࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٧٧

Does not man see that WE have created him from a mere sperm-drop? Then lo ! he is an open quarreler

awalam yara l-insānu annā khalaqnāhu min nuṭ'fatin fa-idhā huwa khaṣīmun mubīnu

وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلࣰا وَنَسِیَ خَلۡقَهُۥۖ قَالَ مَن یُحۡیِ ٱلۡعِظَـٰمَ وَهِیَ رَمِیمࣱ ۝٧٨

And he coins similitudes for US and forgets his own creation. He says, `Who can quicken the bones when they are decayed?

waḍaraba lanā mathalan wanasiya khalqahu qāla man yuḥ'yī l-ʿiẓāma wahiya ramīmu

قُلۡ یُحۡیِیهَا ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَهَاۤ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلۡقٍ عَلِیمٌ ۝٧٩

Say, `HE, Who created them the first time, will quicken them; and HE knows well the condition of every created thing

qul yuḥ'yīhā alladhī ansha-ahā awwala marratin wahuwa bikulli khalqin ʿalīmu

ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلۡأَخۡضَرِ نَارࣰا فَإِذَاۤ أَنتُم مِّنۡهُ تُوقِدُونَ ۝٨٠

HE Who produces for you fire out of the green tree, and behold, you kindle from it

alladhī jaʿala lakum mina l-shajari l-akhḍari nāran fa-idhā antum min'hu tūqidūn

أَوَ لَیۡسَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰۤ أَن یَخۡلُقَ مِثۡلَهُمۚ بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلۡخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٨١

Has not HE who created the heavens and the earth the power to create the like of them?' Yea, and HE is, indeed, the Supreme Creator, the All-Knowing

awalaysa alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa biqādirin ʿalā an yakhluqa mith'lahum balā wahuwa l-khalāqu l-ʿalīm

إِنَّمَاۤ أَمۡرُهُۥۤ إِذَاۤ أَرَادَ شَیۡءًا أَن یَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَیَكُونُ ۝٨٢

Verily, HIS command, when HE intends a thing, is only that HE says concerning it, `Be,' and it comes into being

innamā amruhu idhā arāda shayan an yaqūla lahu kun fayakūn

فَسُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِی بِیَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٨٣

So Holy is HE, in Whose hand is the dominion of all things. And to HIM will you be brought back

fasub'ḥāna alladhī biyadihi malakūtu kulli shayin wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn
