كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ وَٱلۡأَحۡزَابُ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۖ وَهَمَّتۡ كُلُّ أُمَّةِۭ بِرَسُولِهِمۡ لِیَأۡخُذُوهُۖ وَجَـٰدَلُوا۟ بِٱلۡبَـٰطِلِ لِیُدۡحِضُوا۟ بِهِ ٱلۡحَقَّ فَأَخَذۡتُهُمۡۖ فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ ۝٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Before them, the people of Noah and groups after them rejected [the message]. Every community plotted against its prophet to seize him and to dispute with deception to condemn the truth, but I [the Lord] seized them. How was My punishment?

kadhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin wal-aḥzābu min baʿdihim wahammat kullu ummatin birasūlihim liyakhudhūhu wajādalū bil-bāṭili liyud'ḥiḍū bihi l-ḥaqa fa-akhadhtuhum fakayfa kāna ʿiqāb

40:6

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ حَقَّتۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ ۝٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Thus was the decree of your Lord proven true against the unbelievers. They are companions of the fire.

wakadhālika ḥaqqat kalimatu rabbika ʿalā alladhīna kafarū annahum aṣḥābu l-nār

40:7

ٱلَّذِینَ یَحۡمِلُونَ ٱلۡعَرۡشَ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَهُۥ یُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَیُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَیَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ لِلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ۖ رَبَّنَا وَسِعۡتَ كُلَّ شَیۡءࣲ رَّحۡمَةࣰ وَعِلۡمࣰا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لِلَّذِینَ تَابُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ سَبِیلَكَ وَقِهِمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

Those who carry the [divine] throne and those around it sing glory and praise to their Lord. [They] believe in Him and implore forgiveness for the believers: “Our Lord, You comprehend all things in mercy and knowledge. Forgive, then, those who repent and follow Your path. Save them from the penalty of Hell.

alladhīna yaḥmilūna l-ʿarsha waman ḥawlahu yusabbiḥūna biḥamdi rabbihim wayu'minūna bihi wayastaghfirūna lilladhīna āmanū rabbanā wasiʿ'ta kulla shayin raḥmatan waʿil'man fa-igh'fir lilladhīna tābū wa-ittabaʿū sabīlaka waqihim ʿadhāba l-jaḥīm

40:8

رَبَّنَا وَأَدۡخِلۡهُمۡ جَنَّـٰتِ عَدۡنٍ ٱلَّتِی وَعَدتَّهُمۡ وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنۡ ءَابَاۤىِٕهِمۡ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجِهِمۡ وَذُرِّیَّـٰتِهِمۡۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Our Lord, grant that they enter the gardens of eternity, which You have promised to them and to the righteous among their parents, spouses, and children. You are the Victorious, the Perfectly Wise.

rabbanā wa-adkhil'hum jannāti ʿadnin allatī waʿadttahum waman ṣalaḥa min ābāihim wa-azwājihim wadhurriyyātihim innaka anta l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

40:9

وَقِهِمُ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتِۚ وَمَن تَقِ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتِ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ فَقَدۡ رَحِمۡتَهُۥۚ وَذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Save them from harm. For any whom You save from harm that day, You will have bestowed on them mercy indeed. That will truly be the highest achievement.”

waqihimu l-sayiāti waman taqi l-sayiāti yawma-idhin faqad raḥim'tahu wadhālika huwa l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm

40:10

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ یُنَادَوۡنَ لَمَقۡتُ ٱللَّهِ أَكۡبَرُ مِن مَّقۡتِكُمۡ أَنفُسَكُمۡ إِذۡ تُدۡعَوۡنَ إِلَى ٱلۡإِیمَـٰنِ فَتَكۡفُرُونَ ۝١٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

Truly, the unbelievers will be addressed, “Greater was the aversion of Allah to you than your aversion to yourselves, seeing that you were called to the faith and you refused.”

inna alladhīna kafarū yunādawna lamaqtu l-lahi akbaru min maqtikum anfusakum idh tud'ʿawna ilā l-īmāni fatakfurūn

40:11

قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَاۤ أَمَتَّنَا ٱثۡنَتَیۡنِ وَأَحۡیَیۡتَنَا ٱثۡنَتَیۡنِ فَٱعۡتَرَفۡنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا فَهَلۡ إِلَىٰ خُرُوجࣲ مِّن سَبِیلࣲ ۝١١

Linda "iLham" Barto

They will say, “Our Lord, twice You have made us die, and twice You have given us life. We now recognize our sins. Is there any way out?”

qālū rabbanā amattanā ith'natayni wa-aḥyaytanā ith'natayni fa-iʿ'tarafnā bidhunūbinā fahal ilā khurūjin min sabīli

40:12

ذَ ٰلِكُم بِأَنَّهُۥۤ إِذَا دُعِیَ ٱللَّهُ وَحۡدَهُۥ كَفَرۡتُمۡ وَإِن یُشۡرَكۡ بِهِۦ تُؤۡمِنُوا۟ۚ فَٱلۡحُكۡمُ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡعَلِیِّ ٱلۡكَبِیرِ ۝١٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

This [punishment] is because, when Allah was invoked as the only One, you rejected faith, but when associates were joined with Him, you believed. The command is with Allah, the Highest, the Almighty.

dhālikum bi-annahu idhā duʿiya l-lahu waḥdahu kafartum wa-in yush'rak bihi tu'minū fal-ḥuk'mu lillahi l-ʿaliyi l-kabīr

40:13

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُرِیكُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦ وَیُنَزِّلُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ رِزۡقࣰاۚ وَمَا یَتَذَكَّرُ إِلَّا مَن یُنِیبُ ۝١٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

It is He who shows you His signs and sends sustenance for you from the sky. Only those who accept warning will repent to Allah.

huwa alladhī yurīkum āyātihi wayunazzilu lakum mina l-samāi riz'qan wamā yatadhakkaru illā man yunīb

40:14

فَٱدۡعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِینَ لَهُ ٱلدِّینَ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ ۝١٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

Call upon Allah with sincere devotion to Him even though the unbelievers hate it.

fa-id'ʿū l-laha mukh'liṣīna lahu l-dīna walaw kariha l-kāfirūn

40:15

رَفِیعُ ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتِ ذُو ٱلۡعَرۡشِ یُلۡقِی ٱلرُّوحَ مِنۡ أَمۡرِهِۦ عَلَىٰ مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ لِیُنذِرَ یَوۡمَ ٱلتَّلَاقِ ۝١٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Raised high above ranks is the Owner of the Throne. By His command, He sends inspiration to any of His servants as He pleases to warn of the day of the meeting.

rafīʿu l-darajāti dhū l-ʿarshi yul'qī l-rūḥa min amrihi ʿalā man yashāu min ʿibādihi liyundhira yawma l-talāq

40:16

یَوۡمَ هُم بَـٰرِزُونَۖ لَا یَخۡفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِنۡهُمۡ شَیۡءࣱۚ لِّمَنِ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَۖ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡوَ ٰحِدِ ٱلۡقَهَّارِ ۝١٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

On that day, they will come forth. Nothing concerning them is hidden from Allah. Who will have dominion that day? Allah the One, the Prevailing Force!

yawma hum bārizūna lā yakhfā ʿalā l-lahi min'hum shayon limani l-mul'ku l-yawma lillahi l-wāḥidi l-qahār

40:17

ٱلۡیَوۡمَ تُجۡزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡۚ لَا ظُلۡمَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِیعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ۝١٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

That day every soul will be requited for what it earned. No injustice will be on that day. Allah is swift in taking account.

al-yawma tuj'zā kullu nafsin bimā kasabat lā ẓul'ma l-yawma inna l-laha sarīʿu l-ḥisāb

40:18

وَأَنذِرۡهُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡءَازِفَةِ إِذِ ٱلۡقُلُوبُ لَدَى ٱلۡحَنَاجِرِ كَـٰظِمِینَۚ مَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِینَ مِنۡ حَمِیمࣲ وَلَا شَفِیعࣲ یُطَاعُ ۝١٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

Warn them of the approaching day, when the hearts will be in their throats, choking. For the sinners, no intimate friend or intercessor will be heard.

wa-andhir'hum yawma l-āzifati idhi l-qulūbu ladā l-ḥanājiri kāẓimīna mā lilẓẓālimīna min ḥamīmin walā shafīʿin yuṭāʿ

40:19

یَعۡلَمُ خَاۤىِٕنَةَ ٱلۡأَعۡیُنِ وَمَا تُخۡفِی ٱلصُّدُورُ ۝١٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

(Allah) recognizes deception in the eyes and all that hearts conceal.

yaʿlamu khāinata l-aʿyuni wamā tukh'fī l-ṣudūr

40:20

وَٱللَّهُ یَقۡضِی بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ وَٱلَّذِینَ یَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا یَقۡضُونَ بِشَیۡءٍۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡبَصِیرُ ۝٢٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

Allah will judge with truth, but those they invoke besides Him will not be able to judge at all. Truly, Allah is the All-hearing, the All-seeing.

wal-lahu yaqḍī bil-ḥaqi wa-alladhīna yadʿūna min dūnihi lā yaqḍūna bishayin inna l-laha huwa l-samīʿu l-baṣīr

40:21

۞ أَوَ لَمۡ یَسِیرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَیَنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَانُوا۟ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَانُوا۟ هُمۡ أَشَدَّ مِنۡهُمۡ قُوَّةࣰ وَءَاثَارࣰا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَاقࣲ ۝٢١

Linda "iLham" Barto

Have they not traveled throughout the earth and seen what became of those before them? They were superior to them in strength and in their impact in the land. But Allah called them to account for their sins. They had no one to defend them against Allah.

awalam yasīrū fī l-arḍi fayanẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu alladhīna kānū min qablihim kānū hum ashadda min'hum quwwatan waāthāran fī l-arḍi fa-akhadhahumu l-lahu bidhunūbihim wamā kāna lahum mina l-lahi min wāqi

40:22

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَانَت تَّأۡتِیهِمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَكَفَرُوا۟ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ قَوِیࣱّ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٢٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

That was because messengers came to them with evidence, but they rejected them, so Allah made them accountable. He is the Strongest, strict in punishment.

dhālika bi-annahum kānat tatīhim rusuluhum bil-bayināti fakafarū fa-akhadhahumu l-lahu innahu qawiyyun shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

40:23

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٢٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

Certainly, We sent Moses with Our signs and an evident authority.

walaqad arsalnā mūsā biāyātinā wasul'ṭānin mubīni

40:24

إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ وَقَـٰرُونَ فَقَالُوا۟ سَـٰحِرࣱ كَذَّابࣱ ۝٢٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

[We sent him] to Pharaoh, Haman, and Korah, but they exclaimed, “A sorcerer telling lies!”

ilā fir'ʿawna wahāmāna waqārūna faqālū sāḥirun kadhābu

40:25

فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ مِنۡ عِندِنَا قَالُوا۟ ٱقۡتُلُوۤا۟ أَبۡنَاۤءَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ وَٱسۡتَحۡیُوا۟ نِسَاۤءَهُمۡۚ وَمَا كَیۡدُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ إِلَّا فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ ۝٢٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

When he came to them with truth from Us, they said [in confirmation of their earlier ruling], “Kill the sons of the believers with him and allow their females to live.” The plots of the unbelievers, however, equal nothing but failure.

falammā jāahum bil-ḥaqi min ʿindinā qālū uq'tulū abnāa alladhīna āmanū maʿahu wa-is'taḥyū nisāahum wamā kaydu l-kāfirīna illā fī ḍalāli

40:26

وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ذَرُونِیۤ أَقۡتُلۡ مُوسَىٰ وَلۡیَدۡعُ رَبَّهُۥۤۖ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ أَن یُبَدِّلَ دِینَكُمۡ أَوۡ أَن یُظۡهِرَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلۡفَسَادَ ۝٢٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Pharaoh said, “Leave it to me to kill Moses. Let him call upon his Lord. What I fear is that he would change your religion or he may cause corruption to appear in the land.”

waqāla fir'ʿawnu dharūnī aqtul mūsā walyadʿu rabbahu innī akhāfu an yubaddila dīnakum aw an yuẓ'hira fī l-arḍi l-fasād

40:27

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰۤ إِنِّی عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّی وَرَبِّكُم مِّن كُلِّ مُتَكَبِّرࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُ بِیَوۡمِ ٱلۡحِسَابِ ۝٢٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

Moses said, “I seek refuge with my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant person who does not believe in the day of accountability.”

waqāla mūsā innī ʿudh'tu birabbī warabbikum min kulli mutakabbirin lā yu'minu biyawmi l-ḥisāb

40:28

وَقَالَ رَجُلࣱ مُّؤۡمِنࣱ مِّنۡ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ یَكۡتُمُ إِیمَـٰنَهُۥۤ أَتَقۡتُلُونَ رَجُلًا أَن یَقُولَ رَبِّیَ ٱللَّهُ وَقَدۡ جَاۤءَكُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ مِن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ وَإِن یَكُ كَـٰذِبࣰا فَعَلَیۡهِ كَذِبُهُۥۖ وَإِن یَكُ صَادِقࣰا یُصِبۡكُم بَعۡضُ ٱلَّذِی یَعِدُكُمۡۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَهۡدِی مَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡرِفࣱ كَذَّابࣱ ۝٢٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

A believing man from among the family of Pharaoh had concealed his faith. He said, “Will you kill a man because he says, ‘My Lord is Allah,’ when he had come to you with evidence from your Lord? If he is a liar, he is accountable for his lie. If he is telling the truth, then you will get something of that about which he warns you. Truly, Allah does not guide a sinner who lies.

waqāla rajulun mu'minun min āli fir'ʿawna yaktumu īmānahu ataqtulūna rajulan an yaqūla rabbiya l-lahu waqad jāakum bil-bayināti min rabbikum wa-in yaku kādhiban faʿalayhi kadhibuhu wa-in yaku ṣādiqan yuṣib'kum baʿḍu alladhī yaʿidukum inna l-laha lā yahdī man huwa mus'rifun kadhābu

40:29

یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَكُمُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ ظَـٰهِرِینَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَمَن یَنصُرُنَا مِنۢ بَأۡسِ ٱللَّهِ إِن جَاۤءَنَاۚ قَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ مَاۤ أُرِیكُمۡ إِلَّا مَاۤ أَرَىٰ وَمَاۤ أَهۡدِیكُمۡ إِلَّا سَبِیلَ ٱلرَّشَادِ ۝٢٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

O my people, on this day, you have the dominion. You have the authority in the land, but who will rescue us from the punishment of Allah if it comes to us?” Pharaoh said, “I point out to you only what I see, and I guide you only on the right path.”

yāqawmi lakumu l-mul'ku l-yawma ẓāhirīna fī l-arḍi faman yanṣurunā min basi l-lahi in jāanā qāla fir'ʿawnu mā urīkum illā mā arā wamā ahdīkum illā sabīla l-rashād

40:30

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِیۤ ءَامَنَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ عَلَیۡكُم مِّثۡلَ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابِ ۝٣٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

The man who believed then said, “O my people, I truly fear for you something like the fate of the enemy forces.

waqāla alladhī āmana yāqawmi innī akhāfu ʿalaykum mith'la yawmi l-aḥzāb

40:31

مِثۡلَ دَأۡبِ قَوۡمِ نُوحࣲ وَعَادࣲ وَثَمُودَ وَٱلَّذِینَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۚ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ یُرِیدُ ظُلۡمࣰا لِّلۡعِبَادِ ۝٣١

Linda "iLham" Barto

“[It would be] like the fate of the people of Noah, the Ad, and the Thamud, and those who came after them. Allah never wants injustice for His servants.

mith'la dabi qawmi nūḥin waʿādin wathamūda wa-alladhīna min baʿdihim wamā l-lahu yurīdu ẓul'man lil'ʿibād

40:32

وَیَـٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ عَلَیۡكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلتَّنَادِ ۝٣٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

O my people, I fear for you a day when there will be mutual distress.

wayāqawmi innī akhāfu ʿalaykum yawma l-tanād

40:33

یَوۡمَ تُوَلُّونَ مُدۡبِرِینَ مَا لَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۡ عَاصِمࣲۗ وَمَن یُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡ هَادࣲ ۝٣٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

[It would be] a day when you will turn your backs and run. You will have no defender against Allah. No guide is there for anyone Allah has left to stray.

yawma tuwallūna mud'birīna mā lakum mina l-lahi min ʿāṣimin waman yuḍ'lili l-lahu famā lahu min hādi

40:34

وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَكُمۡ یُوسُفُ مِن قَبۡلُ بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَمَا زِلۡتُمۡ فِی شَكࣲّ مِّمَّا جَاۤءَكُم بِهِۦۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا هَلَكَ قُلۡتُمۡ لَن یَبۡعَثَ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ رَسُولࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡرِفࣱ مُّرۡتَابٌ ۝٣٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

“To you, Joseph came with clear signs in times gone by. But you did not cease to doubt the reason that he came. Finally, when he died, you said, ‘Allah will not send a messenger after him.’ Thus, Allah allowed to stray those that sin and live in doubt.

walaqad jāakum yūsufu min qablu bil-bayināti famā zil'tum fī shakkin mimmā jāakum bihi ḥattā idhā halaka qul'tum lan yabʿatha l-lahu min baʿdihi rasūlan kadhālika yuḍillu l-lahu man huwa mus'rifun mur'tābu

40:35

ٱلَّذِینَ یُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِیۤ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَیۡرِ سُلۡطَـٰنٍ أَتَىٰهُمۡۖ كَبُرَ مَقۡتًا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعِندَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَطۡبَعُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ قَلۡبِ مُتَكَبِّرࣲ جَبَّارࣲ ۝٣٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

“They are those that argue about the signs of Allah, without any authority having reached them. They are horrible in the sight of Allah and the believers. Thus Allah seals every heart of arrogant rebels.”

alladhīna yujādilūna fī āyāti l-lahi bighayri sul'ṭānin atāhum kabura maqtan ʿinda l-lahi waʿinda alladhīna āmanū kadhālika yaṭbaʿu l-lahu ʿalā kulli qalbi mutakabbirin jabbāri

40:36

وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ یَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ ٱبۡنِ لِی صَرۡحࣰا لَّعَلِّیۤ أَبۡلُغُ ٱلۡأَسۡبَـٰبَ ۝٣٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Pharaoh said, “O Haman, build me a lofty tower so I may gain access.

waqāla fir'ʿawnu yāhāmānu ib'ni lī ṣarḥan laʿallī ablughu l-asbāb

40:37

أَسۡبَـٰبَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ فَأَطَّلِعَ إِلَىٰۤ إِلَـٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّی لَأَظُنُّهُۥ كَـٰذِبࣰاۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ زُیِّنَ لِفِرۡعَوۡنَ سُوۤءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَصُدَّ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِیلِۚ وَمَا كَیۡدُ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِلَّا فِی تَبَابࣲ ۝٣٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

“[I want] access to the skies so I may behold the God of Moses, although I think (Moses) is a liar.” Thus the evil of his deeds seemed pleasant in the eyes of Pharaoh. He was stopped from the path. Pharaoh’s plot led to nothing but damnation.

asbāba l-samāwāti fa-aṭṭaliʿa ilā ilāhi mūsā wa-innī la-aẓunnuhu kādhiban wakadhālika zuyyina lifir'ʿawna sūu ʿamalihi waṣudda ʿani l-sabīli wamā kaydu fir'ʿawna illā fī tabābi

40:38

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِیۤ ءَامَنَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱتَّبِعُونِ أَهۡدِكُمۡ سَبِیلَ ٱلرَّشَادِ ۝٣٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

The person who believed said, “O my people, follow me. I will lead you to the right path.

waqāla alladhī āmana yāqawmi ittabiʿūni ahdikum sabīla l-rashād

40:39

یَـٰقَوۡمِ إِنَّمَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَا مَتَـٰعࣱ وَإِنَّ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةَ هِیَ دَارُ ٱلۡقَرَارِ ۝٣٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

“O my people, this present life is nothing but temporary enjoyment. It is the hereafter that is the home that will last.

yāqawmi innamā hādhihi l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā matāʿun wa-inna l-ākhirata hiya dāru l-qarār

40:40

مَنۡ عَمِلَ سَیِّئَةࣰ فَلَا یُجۡزَىٰۤ إِلَّا مِثۡلَهَاۖ وَمَنۡ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوۡ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنࣱ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یَدۡخُلُونَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ یُرۡزَقُونَ فِیهَا بِغَیۡرِ حِسَابࣲ ۝٤٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

“The one that works evil will not be repaid except with something like it. The one that works righteous deeds, whether male or female, and is a believer will enter Paradise. In it, (the believers) will have provisions without measure.

man ʿamila sayyi-atan falā yuj'zā illā mith'lahā waman ʿamila ṣāliḥan min dhakarin aw unthā wahuwa mu'minun fa-ulāika yadkhulūna l-janata yur'zaqūna fīhā bighayri ḥisābi

40:41

۞ وَیَـٰقَوۡمِ مَا لِیۤ أَدۡعُوكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلنَّجَوٰةِ وَتَدۡعُونَنِیۤ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ ۝٤١

Linda "iLham" Barto

“O my people, how is it that I call you to salvation while you call me to the fire?

wayāqawmi mā lī adʿūkum ilā l-najati watadʿūnanī ilā l-nār

40:42

تَدۡعُونَنِی لِأَكۡفُرَ بِٱللَّهِ وَأُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ مَا لَیۡسَ لِی بِهِۦ عِلۡمࣱ وَأَنَا۠ أَدۡعُوكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡغَفَّـٰرِ ۝٤٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

“You call upon me to deny Allah and to join with Him partners of whom I have no knowledge. I call you to the Victorious, the Redeemer.

tadʿūnanī li-akfura bil-lahi wa-ush'rika bihi mā laysa lī bihi ʿil'mun wa-anā adʿūkum ilā l-ʿazīzi l-ghafār

40:43

لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّمَا تَدۡعُونَنِیۤ إِلَیۡهِ لَیۡسَ لَهُۥ دَعۡوَةࣱ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَلَا فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ مَرَدَّنَاۤ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ هُمۡ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ ۝٤٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Without doubt, you call me to one unworthy of being called upon in this world or in the hereafter. Our return will be to Allah. The sinners will be companions of the fire.

lā jarama annamā tadʿūnanī ilayhi laysa lahu daʿwatun fī l-dun'yā walā fī l-ākhirati wa-anna maraddanā ilā l-lahi wa-anna l-mus'rifīna hum aṣḥābu l-nār

40:44

فَسَتَذۡكُرُونَ مَاۤ أَقُولُ لَكُمۡۚ وَأُفَوِّضُ أَمۡرِیۤ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَصِیرُۢ بِٱلۡعِبَادِ ۝٤٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Soon you will remember what I am saying to you. I commit my affair to Allah. Allah watches over His servants.”

fasatadhkurūna mā aqūlu lakum wa-ufawwiḍu amrī ilā l-lahi inna l-laha baṣīrun bil-ʿibād

40:45

فَوَقَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ سَیِّءَاتِ مَا مَكَرُوا۟ۖ وَحَاقَ بِءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ سُوۤءُ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ۝٤٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Allah saved him from the wrong that they plotted. Dreadful doom encircled the people of Pharaoh.

fawaqāhu l-lahu sayyiāti mā makarū waḥāqa biāli fir'ʿawna sūu l-ʿadhāb

40:46

ٱلنَّارُ یُعۡرَضُونَ عَلَیۡهَا غُدُوࣰّا وَعَشِیࣰّاۚ وَیَوۡمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡخِلُوۤا۟ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ أَشَدَّ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ۝٤٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

They will be brought in front of the fire morning and evening. On the day that judgment will be established: “Cast the people of Pharaoh into the worst punishment.”

al-nāru yuʿ'raḍūna ʿalayhā ghuduwwan waʿashiyyan wayawma taqūmu l-sāʿatu adkhilū āla fir'ʿawna ashadda l-ʿadhāb

40:47

وَإِذۡ یَتَحَاۤجُّونَ فِی ٱلنَّارِ فَیَقُولُ ٱلضُّعَفَـٰۤؤُا۟ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمۡ تَبَعࣰا فَهَلۡ أَنتُم مُّغۡنُونَ عَنَّا نَصِیبࣰا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ ۝٤٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

They will argue with each other in the fire. The feeble-minded will say to the arrogant, “Indeed, we followed you [as our role models]. Can’t you relieve us of some of our fire?”

wa-idh yataḥājjūna fī l-nāri fayaqūlu l-ḍuʿafāu lilladhīna is'takbarū innā kunnā lakum tabaʿan fahal antum mugh'nūna ʿannā naṣīban mina l-nār

40:48

قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كُلࣱّ فِیهَاۤ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدۡ حَكَمَ بَیۡنَ ٱلۡعِبَادِ ۝٤٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

The arrogant will say, “Indeed, we are all in this together! Truly, Allah has judged among the servants.”

qāla alladhīna is'takbarū innā kullun fīhā inna l-laha qad ḥakama bayna l-ʿibād

40:49

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ فِی ٱلنَّارِ لِخَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ ٱدۡعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمۡ یُخَفِّفۡ عَنَّا یَوۡمࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ۝٤٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Those in the fire will say to the keepers of Hell, “Pray to your Lord to lighten the punishment for just one day.”

waqāla alladhīna fī l-nāri likhazanati jahannama id'ʿū rabbakum yukhaffif ʿannā yawman mina l-ʿadhāb

40:50

قَالُوۤا۟ أَوَ لَمۡ تَكُ تَأۡتِیكُمۡ رُسُلُكُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِۖ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰۚ قَالُوا۟ فَٱدۡعُوا۟ۗ وَمَا دُعَـٰۤؤُا۟ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ إِلَّا فِی ضَلَـٰلٍ ۝٥٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

(The keepers of Hell) will say, “Did messengers not come to you with clear signs?” They will say, “Yes.” They will reply, “You may pray, but the unbelievers’ prayers are worthless.”

qālū awalam taku tatīkum rusulukum bil-bayināti qālū balā qālū fa-id'ʿū wamā duʿāu l-kāfirīna illā fī ḍalāli

40:51

إِنَّا لَنَنصُرُ رُسُلَنَا وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَیَوۡمَ یَقُومُ ٱلۡأَشۡهَـٰدُ ۝٥١

Linda "iLham" Barto

We will undoubtedly help Our messengers and other believers, both in this world’s life and in the day when the witnesses will approach.

innā lananṣuru rusulanā wa-alladhīna āmanū fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wayawma yaqūmu l-ashhād

40:52

یَوۡمَ لَا یَنفَعُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ مَعۡذِرَتُهُمۡۖ وَلَهُمُ ٱللَّعۡنَةُ وَلَهُمۡ سُوۤءُ ٱلدَّارِ ۝٥٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

On that day, excuses will be of no use to the wicked; they will have the curse and abode of wretchedness.

yawma lā yanfaʿu l-ẓālimīna maʿdhiratuhum walahumu l-laʿnatu walahum sūu l-dār

40:53

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَأَوۡرَثۡنَا بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ ۝٥٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

Certainly, We gave Moses the guidance [of the Torah], and We gave the Book as an inheritance for the Children of Israel.

walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-hudā wa-awrathnā banī is'rāīla l-kitāb

40:54

هُدࣰى وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِأُو۟لِی ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝٥٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

It is a guide and a reminder for people of understanding.

hudan wadhik'rā li-ulī l-albāb

40:55

فَٱصۡبِرۡ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقࣱّ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلۡعَشِیِّ وَٱلۡإِبۡكَـٰرِ ۝٥٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Certainly be patient, for the promise of Allah is true. Ask forgiveness for your sin, and celebrate the praises of your Lord in the evening and in the morning.

fa-iṣ'bir inna waʿda l-lahi ḥaqqun wa-is'taghfir lidhanbika wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika bil-ʿashiyi wal-ib'kār

40:56

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِیۤ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَیۡرِ سُلۡطَـٰنٍ أَتَىٰهُمۡ إِن فِی صُدُورِهِمۡ إِلَّا كِبۡرࣱ مَّا هُم بِبَـٰلِغِیهِۚ فَٱسۡتَعِذۡ بِٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡبَصِیرُ ۝٥٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Certainly, those who argue about the signs of Allah, without any authority bestowed on them, have nothing in their breasts except the self-grandeur they will never attain. Seek refuge then in Allah. He truly is the All-hearing, the All-seeing.

inna alladhīna yujādilūna fī āyāti l-lahi bighayri sul'ṭānin atāhum in fī ṣudūrihim illā kib'run mā hum bibālighīhi fa-is'taʿidh bil-lahi innahu huwa l-samīʿu l-baṣīr

40:57

لَخَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَكۡبَرُ مِنۡ خَلۡقِ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٥٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

Surely the creation of the skies and Earth is greater than the creation of humanity, yet most people do not understand.

lakhalqu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi akbaru min khalqi l-nāsi walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn

40:58

وَمَا یَسۡتَوِی ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ وَٱلۡبَصِیرُ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَلَا ٱلۡمُسِیۤءُۚ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٥٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

Not equal are the unseeing and the seeing or the believers who live righteously and those who live wickedly. You don’t heed much.

wamā yastawī l-aʿmā wal-baṣīru wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti walā l-musīu qalīlan mā tatadhakkarūn

40:59

إِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَءَاتِیَةࣱ لَّا رَیۡبَ فِیهَا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

The hour [of dread] will certainly come. Do not doubt it, even though most people do not believe.

inna l-sāʿata laātiyatun lā rayba fīhā walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yu'minūn

40:60

وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدۡعُونِیۤ أَسۡتَجِبۡ لَكُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِی سَیَدۡخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِینَ ۝٦٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

Your Lord says, “Call on Me; I will answer you. Truly, those too arrogant to serve Me, however, will find themselves mortified in Hell.”

waqāla rabbukumu id'ʿūnī astajib lakum inna alladhīna yastakbirūna ʿan ʿibādatī sayadkhulūna jahannama dākhirīn

40:61

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّیۡلَ لِتَسۡكُنُوا۟ فِیهِ وَٱلنَّهَارَ مُبۡصِرًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَذُو فَضۡلٍ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٦١

Linda "iLham" Barto

Allah is who has made the night for you so you may rest in it. [He has made] the day to give visibility. Truly, Allah is full of grace to humanity, yet most people give no thanks.

al-lahu alladhī jaʿala lakumu al-layla litaskunū fīhi wal-nahāra mub'ṣiran inna l-laha ladhū faḍlin ʿalā l-nāsi walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yashkurūn

40:62

ذَ ٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡ خَـٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ لَّاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤۡفَكُونَ ۝٦٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

Such is Allah your Lord, Creator of all things. No god is there except Him. How then are you deluded?

dhālikumu l-lahu rabbukum khāliqu kulli shayin lā ilāha illā huwa fa-annā tu'fakūn

40:63

كَذَ ٰلِكَ یُؤۡفَكُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَانُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ یَجۡحَدُونَ ۝٦٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

Those who are deluded reject the signs of Allah.

kadhālika yu'faku alladhīna kānū biāyāti l-lahi yajḥadūn

40:64

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ قَرَارࣰا وَٱلسَّمَاۤءَ بِنَاۤءࣰ وَصَوَّرَكُمۡ فَأَحۡسَنَ صُوَرَكُمۡ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡۖ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٦٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

Allah is who has made the earth for you as a resting place. [He made] the sky as a canopy. [He] has given you shape and made your shapes beautiful. [He] has provided good things for you. Such is Allah your Lord! Glory to Allah, Lord of the Worlds!

al-lahu alladhī jaʿala lakumu l-arḍa qarāran wal-samāa bināan waṣawwarakum fa-aḥsana ṣuwarakum warazaqakum mina l-ṭayibāti dhālikumu l-lahu rabbukum fatabāraka l-lahu rabbu l-ʿālamīn

40:65

هُوَ ٱلۡحَیُّ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱدۡعُوهُ مُخۡلِصِینَ لَهُ ٱلدِّینَۗ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٦٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

He is the Eternal One. No god is there except Him. Call upon Him, giving Him sincere devotion. Praise to Allah, Lord of the Worlds!

huwa l-ḥayu lā ilāha illā huwa fa-id'ʿūhu mukh'liṣīna lahu l-dīna l-ḥamdu lillahi rabbi l-ʿālamīn

40:66

۞ قُلۡ إِنِّی نُهِیتُ أَنۡ أَعۡبُدَ ٱلَّذِینَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَمَّا جَاۤءَنِیَ ٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتُ مِن رَّبِّی وَأُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أُسۡلِمَ لِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٦٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Say, “I have been forbidden to invoke those whom you invoke besides Allah now that obvious signs have come to me from my Lord. I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the Worlds.

qul innī nuhītu an aʿbuda alladhīna tadʿūna min dūni l-lahi lammā jāaniya l-bayinātu min rabbī wa-umir'tu an us'lima lirabbi l-ʿālamīn

40:67

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابࣲ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطۡفَةࣲ ثُمَّ مِنۡ عَلَقَةࣲ ثُمَّ یُخۡرِجُكُمۡ طِفۡلࣰا ثُمَّ لِتَبۡلُغُوۤا۟ أَشُدَّكُمۡ ثُمَّ لِتَكُونُوا۟ شُیُوخࣰاۚ وَمِنكُم مَّن یُتَوَفَّىٰ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَلِتَبۡلُغُوۤا۟ أَجَلࣰا مُّسَمࣰّى وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٦٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

“He is who has created you from dust, and then from a drop of sperm, and then from a leech-like clot. He then brings you out as a child. He allows you to reach your age of maturity. He then allows you to grow old although some of you die earlier. He allows you to attain an appointed term so you may gain understanding.

huwa alladhī khalaqakum min turābin thumma min nuṭ'fatin thumma min ʿalaqatin thumma yukh'rijukum ṭif'lan thumma litablughū ashuddakum thumma litakūnū shuyūkhan waminkum man yutawaffā min qablu walitablughū ajalan musamman walaʿallakum taʿqilūn

40:68

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُۖ فَإِذَا قَضَىٰۤ أَمۡرࣰا فَإِنَّمَا یَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَیَكُونُ ۝٦٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

“He is who gives life and death. When He decides a situation, He says to it, ‘Be!’ and it is.”

huwa alladhī yuḥ'yī wayumītu fa-idhā qaḍā amran fa-innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fayakūn

40:69

أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِینَ یُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِیۤ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ أَنَّىٰ یُصۡرَفُونَ ۝٦٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do you not see those that argue about the signs of Allah? How they are turned away!

alam tara ilā alladhīna yujādilūna fī āyāti l-lahi annā yuṣ'rafūn

40:70

ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ وَبِمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا بِهِۦ رُسُلَنَاۖ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٧٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

Those who reject the Book and that with which We sent Our messengers will soon know.

alladhīna kadhabū bil-kitābi wabimā arsalnā bihi rusulanā fasawfa yaʿlamūn

40:71

إِذِ ٱلۡأَغۡلَـٰلُ فِیۤ أَعۡنَـٰقِهِمۡ وَٱلسَّلَـٰسِلُ یُسۡحَبُونَ ۝٧١

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will have] yokes around their necks. Chains will drag them…

idhi l-aghlālu fī aʿnāqihim wal-salāsilu yus'ḥabūn

40:72

فِی ٱلۡحَمِیمِ ثُمَّ فِی ٱلنَّارِ یُسۡجَرُونَ ۝٧٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

…into boiling water. In the fire, they will burn.

fī l-ḥamīmi thumma fī l-nāri yus'jarūn

40:73

ثُمَّ قِیلَ لَهُمۡ أَیۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٧٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

To them, it will be said, “Where are your false idols now, which you adored…

thumma qīla lahum ayna mā kuntum tush'rikūn

40:74

مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۖ قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا بَل لَّمۡ نَكُن نَّدۡعُوا۟ مِن قَبۡلُ شَیۡءࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٧٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

“…instead of Allah?” They will answer, “They have forsaken us. No, we invoked nothing.” Thus, Allah leaves the unbelievers astray.

min dūni l-lahi qālū ḍallū ʿannā bal lam nakun nadʿū min qablu shayan kadhālika yuḍillu l-lahu l-kāfirīn

40:75

ذَ ٰلِكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَفۡرَحُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَیۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَبِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَمۡرَحُونَ ۝٧٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

“That was because you rejoiced [concerning your sins] on the earth without honesty, and you were insolent.

dhālikum bimā kuntum tafraḥūna fī l-arḍi bighayri l-ḥaqi wabimā kuntum tamraḥūn

40:76

ٱدۡخُلُوۤا۟ أَبۡوَ ٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۖ فَبِئۡسَ مَثۡوَى ٱلۡمُتَكَبِّرِینَ ۝٧٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Enter the gates of Hell to dwell therein. Wretched is the abode of the arrogant.

ud'khulū abwāba jahannama khālidīna fīhā fabi'sa mathwā l-mutakabirīn

40:77

فَٱصۡبِرۡ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقࣱّۚ فَإِمَّا نُرِیَنَّكَ بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِی نَعِدُهُمۡ أَوۡ نَتَوَفَّیَنَّكَ فَإِلَیۡنَا یُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٧٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

Be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allah is true. We may show you some part of what We promise them, or We may cause you to die. They shall return to Us.

fa-iṣ'bir inna waʿda l-lahi ḥaqqun fa-immā nuriyannaka baʿḍa alladhī naʿiduhum aw natawaffayannaka fa-ilaynā yur'jaʿūn

40:78

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلࣰا مِّن قَبۡلِكَ مِنۡهُم مَّن قَصَصۡنَا عَلَیۡكَ وَمِنۡهُم مَّن لَّمۡ نَقۡصُصۡ عَلَیۡكَۗ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَن یَأۡتِیَ بِءَایَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۚ فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ قُضِیَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ ٱلۡمُبۡطِلُونَ ۝٧٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

We certainly sent messengers before you. We have told some of their stories to you, and We have not told you some other stories. No messenger could bring a sign except by the will of Allah. When the command of Allah was issued, the matter was decided in justice. Those who represented lies perished.

walaqad arsalnā rusulan min qablika min'hum man qaṣaṣnā ʿalayka wamin'hum man lam naqṣuṣ ʿalayka wamā kāna lirasūlin an yatiya biāyatin illā bi-idh'ni l-lahi fa-idhā jāa amru l-lahi quḍiya bil-ḥaqi wakhasira hunālika l-mub'ṭilūn

40:79

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمَ لِتَرۡكَبُوا۟ مِنۡهَا وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٧٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Allah made cattle for you so you may use some for riding and some for food.

al-lahu alladhī jaʿala lakumu l-anʿāma litarkabū min'hā wamin'hā takulūn

40:80

وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَلِتَبۡلُغُوا۟ عَلَیۡهَا حَاجَةࣰ فِی صُدُورِكُمۡ وَعَلَیۡهَا وَعَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ تُحۡمَلُونَ ۝٨٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

Advantages exist in them for you so, through them, you may satisfy any need in your hearts. You are carried on them and on ships.

walakum fīhā manāfiʿu walitablughū ʿalayhā ḥājatan fī ṣudūrikum waʿalayhā waʿalā l-ful'ki tuḥ'malūn

40:81

وَیُرِیكُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦ فَأَیَّ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ تُنكِرُونَ ۝٨١

Linda "iLham" Barto

He shows you His signs. Which of the signs of Allah will you deny?

wayurīkum āyātihi fa-ayya āyāti l-lahi tunkirūn

40:82

أَفَلَمۡ یَسِیرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَیَنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَانُوۤا۟ أَكۡثَرَ مِنۡهُمۡ وَأَشَدَّ قُوَّةࣰ وَءَاثَارࣰا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَمَاۤ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٨٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do they not travel throughout the earth and see what happened to those before them? They were more numerous and superior in strength and in their evidence left in the land. Yet all they accomplished did not benefit them.

afalam yasīrū fī l-arḍi fayanẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu alladhīna min qablihim kānū akthara min'hum wa-ashadda quwwatan waāthāran fī l-arḍi famā aghnā ʿanhum mā kānū yaksibūn

40:83

فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَرِحُوا۟ بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٨٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

When their messengers came to them with obvious signs, they relished the knowledge they had. They were overcome by that at which they scoffed.

falammā jāathum rusuluhum bil-bayināti fariḥū bimā ʿindahum mina l-ʿil'mi waḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihi yastahziūn

40:84

فَلَمَّا رَأَوۡا۟ بَأۡسَنَا قَالُوۤا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَحۡدَهُۥ وَكَفَرۡنَا بِمَا كُنَّا بِهِۦ مُشۡرِكِینَ ۝٨٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

When they saw Our punishment, they said, “We believe in Allah alone, and we now reject what we have joined with Him.”

falammā ra-aw basanā qālū āmannā bil-lahi waḥdahu wakafarnā bimā kunnā bihi mush'rikīn

40:85

فَلَمۡ یَكُ یَنفَعُهُمۡ إِیمَـٰنُهُمۡ لَمَّا رَأَوۡا۟ بَأۡسَنَاۖ سُنَّتَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِی قَدۡ خَلَتۡ فِی عِبَادِهِۦۖ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٨٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

However, their professing faith when they saw Our punishment did not profit them. That is Allah’s way of treating His servants, and the rejecters of Allah perished.

falam yaku yanfaʿuhum īmānuhum lammā ra-aw basanā sunnata l-lahi allatī qad khalat fī ʿibādihi wakhasira hunālika l-kāfirūn
