وَٱخۡتِلَـٰفِ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَمَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مِن رِّزۡقࣲ فَأَحۡیَا بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَا وَتَصۡرِیفِ ٱلرِّیَـٰحِ ءَایَـٰتࣱ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٥

John Medows Rodwell

And in the succession of night and day, and in the supply which God sendeth down from the Heaven whereby He giveth life to the earth when dead, and in the change of the winds, are signs for a people of discernment

wa-ikh'tilāfi al-layli wal-nahāri wamā anzala l-lahu mina l-samāi min riz'qin fa-aḥyā bihi l-arḍa baʿda mawtihā wataṣrīfi l-riyāḥi āyātun liqawmin yaʿqilūn

45:6

تِلۡكَ ءَایَـٰتُ ٱللَّهِ نَتۡلُوهَا عَلَیۡكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ فَبِأَیِّ حَدِیثِۭ بَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ وَءَایَـٰتِهِۦ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٦

John Medows Rodwell

Such are the signs of God: with truth do we recite them to thee. But in what teaching will they believe, if they reject God and his signs

til'ka āyātu l-lahi natlūhā ʿalayka bil-ḥaqi fabi-ayyi ḥadīthin baʿda l-lahi waāyātihi yu'minūn

45:7

وَیۡلࣱ لِّكُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِیمࣲ ۝٧

Woe to every lying sinner

waylun likulli affākin athīmi

45:8

یَسۡمَعُ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِ ثُمَّ یُصِرُّ مُسۡتَكۡبِرࣰا كَأَن لَّمۡ یَسۡمَعۡهَاۖ فَبَشِّرۡهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِیمࣲ ۝٨

John Medows Rodwell

Who heareth the signs of God recited to him, and then, as though he heard them not, persisteth in proud disdain! Apprise him of an afflictive punishment

yasmaʿu āyāti l-lahi tut'lā ʿalayhi thumma yuṣirru mus'takbiran ka-an lam yasmaʿhā fabashir'hu biʿadhābin alīmi

45:9

وَإِذَا عَلِمَ مِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَا شَیۡءًا ٱتَّخَذَهَا هُزُوًاۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ مُّهِینࣱ ۝٩

John Medows Rodwell

And when he becometh acquainted with any of our signs he turneth them into ridicule. These! a shameful punishment for them

wa-idhā ʿalima min āyātinā shayan ittakhadhahā huzuwan ulāika lahum ʿadhābun muhīnu

45:10

مِّن وَرَاۤىِٕهِمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَلَا یُغۡنِی عَنۡهُم مَّا كَسَبُوا۟ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا مَا ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِیمٌ ۝١٠

John Medows Rodwell

Hell is behind them! and neither their gains nor the lords whom they have adopted beside God shall avail them in the least: and theirs, a great punishment

min warāihim jahannamu walā yugh'nī ʿanhum mā kasabū shayan walā mā ittakhadhū min dūni l-lahi awliyāa walahum ʿadhābun ʿaẓīmu

45:11

هَـٰذَا هُدࣰىۖ وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ لَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ مِّن رِّجۡزٍ أَلِیمٌ ۝١١

John Medows Rodwell

This is "Guidance:" and for those who disbelieve the signs of their Lord is the punishment of an afflictive torment

hādhā hudan wa-alladhīna kafarū biāyāti rabbihim lahum ʿadhābun min rij'zin alīmu

45:12

۞ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ لِتَجۡرِیَ ٱلۡفُلۡكُ فِیهِ بِأَمۡرِهِۦ وَلِتَبۡتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝١٢

John Medows Rodwell

It is God who hath subjected the sea to you that the ships may traverse it at his bidding, and that ye may go in quest of the gifts of his bounty, and that ye may be thankful

al-lahu alladhī sakhara lakumu l-baḥra litajriya l-ful'ku fīhi bi-amrihi walitabtaghū min faḍlihi walaʿallakum tashkurūn

45:13

وَسَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِیعࣰا مِّنۡهُۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝١٣

John Medows Rodwell

And he hath subjected to you all that is in the Heavens and all that is on the Earth: all is from him. Verily, herein are signs for those who reflect

wasakhara lakum mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi jamīʿan min'hu inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yatafakkarūn

45:14

قُل لِّلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ یَغۡفِرُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ لَا یَرۡجُونَ أَیَّامَ ٱللَّهِ لِیَجۡزِیَ قَوۡمَۢا بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝١٤

John Medows Rodwell

Tell the believers to pardon those who hope not for the days of God in which He purposeth to reward men according to their deeds

qul lilladhīna āmanū yaghfirū lilladhīna lā yarjūna ayyāma l-lahi liyajziya qawman bimā kānū yaksibūn

45:15

مَنۡ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا فَلِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَنۡ أَسَاۤءَ فَعَلَیۡهَاۖ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمۡ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝١٥

John Medows Rodwell

He who doth that which is right, doth it to his own behoof, and whoso doth evil, doth it to his own hurt. Hereafter, to your Lord shall ye be brought back

man ʿamila ṣāliḥan falinafsihi waman asāa faʿalayhā thumma ilā rabbikum tur'jaʿūn

45:16

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلۡحُكۡمَ وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَرَزَقۡنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ وَفَضَّلۡنَـٰهُمۡ عَلَى ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٦

John Medows Rodwell

To the children of Israel gave we of old the Book and the Wisdom, and the gift of Prophecy, and we supplied them with good things, and privileged them above all peoples

walaqad ātaynā banī is'rāīla l-kitāba wal-ḥuk'ma wal-nubuwata warazaqnāhum mina l-ṭayibāti wafaḍḍalnāhum ʿalā l-ʿālamīn

45:17

وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُم بَیِّنَـٰتࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَمۡرِۖ فَمَا ٱخۡتَلَفُوۤا۟ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡعِلۡمُ بَغۡیَۢا بَیۡنَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ یَقۡضِی بَیۡنَهُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ فِیمَا كَانُوا۟ فِیهِ یَخۡتَلِفُونَ ۝١٧

John Medows Rodwell

And we gave them clear sanctions for our behests: neither did they differ, through mutual envy, till after they had become possessed of knowledge; but thy Lord will judge between them on the day of resurrection, as to the subject of their disputes

waātaynāhum bayyinātin mina l-amri famā ikh'talafū illā min baʿdi mā jāahumu l-ʿil'mu baghyan baynahum inna rabbaka yaqḍī baynahum yawma l-qiyāmati fīmā kānū fīhi yakhtalifūn

45:18

ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَـٰكَ عَلَىٰ شَرِیعَةࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَمۡرِ فَٱتَّبِعۡهَا وَلَا تَتَّبِعۡ أَهۡوَاۤءَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٨

John Medows Rodwell

Afterwards we set thee over our divine law: follow it then: and follow not the wishes of those who have no knowledge

thumma jaʿalnāka ʿalā sharīʿatin mina l-amri fa-ittabiʿ'hā walā tattabiʿ ahwāa alladhīna lā yaʿlamūn

45:19

إِنَّهُمۡ لَن یُغۡنُوا۟ عَنكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَیۡءࣰاۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءُ بَعۡضࣲۖ وَٱللَّهُ وَلِیُّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝١٩

John Medows Rodwell

For against God shall they avail thee nothing. And in sooth, the doers of evil are one another's patrons; but the patron of them that fear Him is God himself

innahum lan yugh'nū ʿanka mina l-lahi shayan wa-inna l-ẓālimīna baʿḍuhum awliyāu baʿḍin wal-lahu waliyyu l-mutaqīn

45:20

هَـٰذَا بَصَـٰۤىِٕرُ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣱ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُوقِنُونَ ۝٢٠

John Medows Rodwell

This Book hath insight for mankind, and a Guidance and Mercy to a people who are firm in faith

hādhā baṣāiru lilnnāsi wahudan waraḥmatun liqawmin yūqinūn

45:21

أَمۡ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱجۡتَرَحُوا۟ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتِ أَن نَّجۡعَلَهُمۡ كَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَوَاۤءࣰ مَّحۡیَاهُمۡ وَمَمَاتُهُمۡۚ سَاۤءَ مَا یَحۡكُمُونَ ۝٢١

John Medows Rodwell

Deem they whose gettings are only evil, that we will deal with them as with those who believe and work righteousness, so that their lives and deaths shall be alike? Ill do they judge

am ḥasiba alladhīna ij'taraḥū l-sayiāti an najʿalahum ka-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti sawāan maḥyāhum wamamātuhum sāa mā yaḥkumūn

45:22

وَخَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلِتُجۡزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٢

John Medows Rodwell

In all truth hath God created the Heavens and the Earth, that he may reward every one as he shall have wrought; and they shall not be wronged

wakhalaqa l-lahu l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqi walituj'zā kullu nafsin bimā kasabat wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

45:23

أَفَرَءَیۡتَ مَنِ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَـٰهَهُۥ هَوَىٰهُ وَأَضَلَّهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمࣲ وَخَتَمَ عَلَىٰ سَمۡعِهِۦ وَقَلۡبِهِۦ وَجَعَلَ عَلَىٰ بَصَرِهِۦ غِشَـٰوَةࣰ فَمَن یَهۡدِیهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ٱللَّهِۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٢٣

John Medows Rodwell

What thinkest thou? He who hath made a God of his passions, and whom God causeth wilfully to err, and whose ears and whose heart he hath sealed up, and over whose sight he hath placed a veil - who, after his rejection by God, shall guide such a one? Will ye not then be warned

afara-ayta mani ittakhadha ilāhahu hawāhu wa-aḍallahu l-lahu ʿalā ʿil'min wakhatama ʿalā samʿihi waqalbihi wajaʿala ʿalā baṣarihi ghishāwatan faman yahdīhi min baʿdi l-lahi afalā tadhakkarūn

45:24

وَقَالُوا۟ مَا هِیَ إِلَّا حَیَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡیَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحۡیَا وَمَا یُهۡلِكُنَاۤ إِلَّا ٱلدَّهۡرُۚ وَمَا لَهُم بِذَ ٰلِكَ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِنۡ هُمۡ إِلَّا یَظُنُّونَ ۝٢٤

John Medows Rodwell

And they say, "There is only this our present life: we die and we live, and nought but time destroyeth us." But in this they have no knowledge: it is merely their own conceit

waqālū mā hiya illā ḥayātunā l-dun'yā namūtu wanaḥyā wamā yuh'likunā illā l-dahru wamā lahum bidhālika min ʿil'min in hum illā yaẓunnūn

45:25

وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتُنَا بَیِّنَـٰتࣲ مَّا كَانَ حُجَّتَهُمۡ إِلَّاۤ أَن قَالُوا۟ ٱئۡتُوا۟ بِءَابَاۤىِٕنَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٢٥

John Medows Rodwell

And when our clear signs are recited to them, their only argument is to say, "Bring back our fathers, if ye speak the truth."

wa-idhā tut'lā ʿalayhim āyātunā bayyinātin mā kāna ḥujjatahum illā an qālū i'tū biābāinā in kuntum ṣādiqīn

45:26

قُلِ ٱللَّهُ یُحۡیِیكُمۡ ثُمَّ یُمِیتُكُمۡ ثُمَّ یَجۡمَعُكُمۡ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ لَا رَیۡبَ فِیهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٦

John Medows Rodwell

Say: God giveth you life, then causeth you to die: then will He assemble you on the day of resurrection: there is no doubt of it: but most men have not this knowledge

quli l-lahu yuḥ'yīkum thumma yumītukum thumma yajmaʿukum ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati lā rayba fīhi walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn

45:27

وَلِلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَیَوۡمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ یَخۡسَرُ ٱلۡمُبۡطِلُونَ ۝٢٧

John Medows Rodwell

And God's is the kingdom of the Heavens and of the Earth; and on the day when the Hour shall arrive, on that day shall the despisers perish

walillahi mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wayawma taqūmu l-sāʿatu yawma-idhin yakhsaru l-mub'ṭilūn

45:28

وَتَرَىٰ كُلَّ أُمَّةࣲ جَاثِیَةࣰۚ كُلُّ أُمَّةࣲ تُدۡعَىٰۤ إِلَىٰ كِتَـٰبِهَا ٱلۡیَوۡمَ تُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٨

John Medows Rodwell

And thou shalt see every nation KNEELING: to its own book shall every nation be summoned: - "This day shall ye be repaid as ye have wrought

watarā kulla ummatin jāthiyatan kullu ummatin tud'ʿā ilā kitābihā l-yawma tuj'zawna mā kuntum taʿmalūn

45:29

هَـٰذَا كِتَـٰبُنَا یَنطِقُ عَلَیۡكُم بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا نَسۡتَنسِخُ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٩

John Medows Rodwell

This our Book will speak of you with truth: therein have we written down whatever ye have done."

hādhā kitābunā yanṭiqu ʿalaykum bil-ḥaqi innā kunnā nastansikhu mā kuntum taʿmalūn

45:30

فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَیُدۡخِلُهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ فِی رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝٣٠

John Medows Rodwell

As to those who have believed and wrought righteously, into his mercy shall their Lord cause them to enter. This shall be undoubted bliss

fa-ammā alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti fayud'khiluhum rabbuhum fī raḥmatihi dhālika huwa l-fawzu l-mubīn

45:31

وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ أَفَلَمۡ تَكُنۡ ءَایَـٰتِی تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرۡتُمۡ وَكُنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣰا مُّجۡرِمِینَ ۝٣١

John Medows Rodwell

But as to the Infidels - "Were not my signs recited to you? but ye proudly scorned them, and became a sinful people."

wa-ammā alladhīna kafarū afalam takun āyātī tut'lā ʿalaykum fa-is'takbartum wakuntum qawman muj'rimīn

45:32

وَإِذَا قِیلَ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقࣱّ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ لَا رَیۡبَ فِیهَا قُلۡتُم مَّا نَدۡرِی مَا ٱلسَّاعَةُ إِن نَّظُنُّ إِلَّا ظَنࣰّا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُسۡتَیۡقِنِینَ ۝٣٢

John Medows Rodwell

And when it was said, "Verily the Promise of God is truth; and as to the Hour, there is no doubt of it;" ye said, "We know not what the hour is - we conceive it a mere conceit, - we have no assurance of it."

wa-idhā qīla inna waʿda l-lahi ḥaqqun wal-sāʿatu lā rayba fīhā qul'tum mā nadrī mā l-sāʿatu in naẓunnu illā ẓannan wamā naḥnu bimus'tayqinīn

45:33

وَبَدَا لَهُمۡ سَیِّءَاتُ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٣٣

John Medows Rodwell

And the evils they have wrought shall rise up into their view, and that at which they mocked shall hem them in on every side

wabadā lahum sayyiātu mā ʿamilū waḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihi yastahziūn

45:34

وَقِیلَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ نَنسَىٰكُمۡ كَمَا نَسِیتُمۡ لِقَاۤءَ یَوۡمِكُمۡ هَـٰذَا وَمَأۡوَىٰكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِینَ ۝٣٤

John Medows Rodwell

And it shall be said to them, "This day will we forget you as ye forgat your meeting with us this day, and your abode shall be the fire, and none shall there be to succour you:

waqīla l-yawma nansākum kamā nasītum liqāa yawmikum hādhā wamawākumu l-nāru wamā lakum min nāṣirīn

45:35

ذَ ٰلِكُم بِأَنَّكُمُ ٱتَّخَذۡتُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ هُزُوࣰا وَغَرَّتۡكُمُ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۚ فَٱلۡیَوۡمَ لَا یُخۡرَجُونَ مِنۡهَا وَلَا هُمۡ یُسۡتَعۡتَبُونَ ۝٣٥

John Medows Rodwell

This, because ye received the signs of God with mockery, and this present life deceived you." On that day therefore they shall not come out from it; and they shall not be asked to win the favour of God

dhālikum bi-annakumu ittakhadhtum āyāti l-lahi huzuwan wagharratkumu l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā fal-yawma lā yukh'rajūna min'hā walā hum yus'taʿtabūn

45:36

فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَرَبِّ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٣٦

John Medows Rodwell

Praise then be to God, Lord of the Heavens and Lord of the Earth; the Lord of the worlds

falillahi l-ḥamdu rabbi l-samāwāti warabbi l-arḍi rabbi l-ʿālamīn

45:37

وَلَهُ ٱلۡكِبۡرِیَاۤءُ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٣٧

John Medows Rodwell

And His be the greatness in the Heavens and on the Earth; for He is the Mighty, the Wise

walahu l-kib'riyāu fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm
