1 Opponents will perish in War

ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ أَضَلَّ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝١

The “good actions” of the disbelievers, who pave any other way but the path of their Lord, will not please God

alladhīna kafarū waṣaddū ʿan sabīli l-lahi aḍalla aʿmālahu

وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَا نُزِّلَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدࣲ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمۡ كَفَّرَ عَنۡهُمۡ سَیِّءَاتِهِمۡ وَأَصۡلَحَ بَالَهُمۡ ۝٢

God will forgive the sins of those who accept the Oneness of God, do good things and believe that what is revealed to Mohammad is God’s word. The Lord promises to improve these believers’ condition

wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti waāmanū bimā nuzzila ʿalā muḥammadin wahuwa l-ḥaqu min rabbihim kaffara ʿanhum sayyiātihim wa-aṣlaḥa bālahu

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلۡبَـٰطِلَ وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلۡحَقَّ مِن رَّبِّهِمۡۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَضۡرِبُ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ أَمۡثَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٣

The reason for such an attitude of God is that the disbelievers are following the wrong path and the believers follow their Lord’s order. God is using these examples to bring to the attention of the people the result of their actions and attitudes

dhālika bi-anna alladhīna kafarū ittabaʿū l-bāṭila wa-anna alladhīna āmanū ittabaʿū l-ḥaqa min rabbihim kadhālika yaḍribu l-lahu lilnnāsi amthālahu

فَإِذَا لَقِیتُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَضَرۡبَ ٱلرِّقَابِ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَثۡخَنتُمُوهُمۡ فَشُدُّوا۟ ٱلۡوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنَّۢا بَعۡدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَاۤءً حَتَّىٰ تَضَعَ ٱلۡحَرۡبُ أَوۡزَارَهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَۖ وَلَوۡ یَشَاۤءُ ٱللَّهُ لَٱنتَصَرَ مِنۡهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن لِّیَبۡلُوَا۟ بَعۡضَكُم بِبَعۡضࣲۗ وَٱلَّذِینَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَن یُضِلَّ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٤

If you are engaged in a war with disbelievers, fight with them bravely and strike their necks. When the war is over, you may chose to free the captives or ask for a ransom for their freedom. Know that if God wanted, he would have made you victorious without any fight. The Lord simply wants to test you by one another to prove to you how sincere you are in your belief. Be sure that God will never forget the sacrifice of those who offered their lives as a proof of their belief to their Creator

fa-idhā laqītumu alladhīna kafarū faḍarba l-riqābi ḥattā idhā athkhantumūhum fashuddū l-wathāqa fa-immā mannan baʿdu wa-immā fidāan ḥattā taḍaʿa l-ḥarbu awzārahā dhālika walaw yashāu l-lahu la-intaṣara min'hum walākin liyabluwā baʿḍakum bibaʿḍin wa-alladhīna qutilū fī sabīli l-lahi falan yuḍilla aʿmālahu

سَیَهۡدِیهِمۡ وَیُصۡلِحُ بَالَهُمۡ ۝٥

God hereby promises to guide His true believers and improve their conditions

sayahdīhim wayuṣ'liḥu bālahu

وَیُدۡخِلُهُمُ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ عَرَّفَهَا لَهُمۡ ۝٦

And will admit them to the Paradise with which they are already familiar [through the word of God]

wayud'khiluhumu l-janata ʿarrafahā lahu

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِن تَنصُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ یَنصُرۡكُمۡ وَیُثَبِّتۡ أَقۡدَامَكُمۡ ۝٧

Know that, if the believers help God [how generous of the One Who does not need help to consider a person’s move toward Him as help], God will help them in return and will strengthen their foothold

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū in tanṣurū l-laha yanṣur'kum wayuthabbit aqdāmaku

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَتَعۡسࣰا لَّهُمۡ وَأَضَلَّ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٨

As to disbelievers, their “good” deeds will be fruitless and for them there is nothing but misery in reserve

wa-alladhīna kafarū fataʿsan lahum wa-aḍalla aʿmālahu

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَرِهُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأَحۡبَطَ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٩

That is because, they denied the word of God [and preferred the existing corrupt order] and in return God did not accept their charitable actions [As a matter of fact paying “charity” so that a man stays a pagan is not only a charity but a bribe]

dhālika bi-annahum karihū mā anzala l-lahu fa-aḥbaṭa aʿmālahu

۞ أَفَلَمۡ یَسِیرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَیَنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۖ دَمَّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡهِمۡۖ وَلِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ أَمۡثَـٰلُهَا ۝١٠

Have they not traveled to see the unfortunate destiny of those nations who challenged their Creator? God destroyed their works; their destiny is a good example for what is waiting for the disbelievers

afalam yasīrū fī l-arḍi fayanẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu alladhīna min qablihim dammara l-lahu ʿalayhim walil'kāfirīna amthāluh

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوۡلَى ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَأَنَّ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ لَا مَوۡلَىٰ لَهُمۡ ۝١١

Know that God is the Protector and Helper of the believers; the disbelievers do not have neither any protector nor a helper

dhālika bi-anna l-laha mawlā alladhīna āmanū wa-anna l-kāfirīna lā mawlā lahu

2 Oppressors brought low

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُدۡخِلُ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُۖ وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ یَتَمَتَّعُونَ وَیَأۡكُلُونَ كَمَا تَأۡكُلُ ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمُ وَٱلنَّارُ مَثۡوࣰى لَّهُمۡ ۝١٢

God will admit those who believe and do good deeds into the Gardens where the river flows beneath them. As to the disbelievers, they are enjoying an animalistic life and will end up in the Hell

inna l-laha yud'khilu alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru wa-alladhīna kafarū yatamattaʿūna wayakulūna kamā takulu l-anʿāmu wal-nāru mathwan lahu

وَكَأَیِّن مِّن قَرۡیَةٍ هِیَ أَشَدُّ قُوَّةࣰ مِّن قَرۡیَتِكَ ٱلَّتِیۤ أَخۡرَجَتۡكَ أَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَلَا نَاصِرَ لَهُمۡ ۝١٣

I (God) destroyed many stronger nations, than the one which made you to leave your hometown; there was none to save them

waka-ayyin min qaryatin hiya ashaddu quwwatan min qaryatika allatī akhrajatka ahlaknāhum falā nāṣira lahu

أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَىٰ بَیِّنَةࣲ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ كَمَن زُیِّنَ لَهُۥ سُوۤءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَٱتَّبَعُوۤا۟ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُم ۝١٤

Are those, who are enlightened by God, equal to those who think that their wrongdoings [as defined by God Himself] are the best possible deed and follow none but their low desires

afaman kāna ʿalā bayyinatin min rabbihi kaman zuyyina lahu sūu ʿamalihi wa-ittabaʿū ahwāahu

مَّثَلُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِی وُعِدَ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَۖ فِیهَاۤ أَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّن مَّاۤءٍ غَیۡرِ ءَاسِنࣲ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّن لَّبَنࣲ لَّمۡ یَتَغَیَّرۡ طَعۡمُهُۥ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّنۡ خَمۡرࣲ لَّذَّةࣲ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِینَ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّنۡ عَسَلࣲ مُّصَفࣰّىۖ وَلَهُمۡ فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ وَمَغۡفِرَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡۖ كَمَنۡ هُوَ خَـٰلِدࣱ فِی ٱلنَّارِ وَسُقُوا۟ مَاۤءً حَمِیمࣰا فَقَطَّعَ أَمۡعَاۤءَهُمۡ ۝١٥

Think of the promised Paradise to the righteous ones as a place with unpolluted rivers of water, streams of fresh milk, as well as clear honey, and the canals of delightful wine. In Paradise there will be fruits of every kind for the (successful) ones and [perhaps the greatest blessing] they will be forgiven by God [and their forgiven sins will never be brought up to their attention to make them feel bad amidst such a pleasant place]. Can such (successful) people be equal to the permanent residents of the Fire whose intestines will be torn up by the boiling water that they drink

mathalu l-janati allatī wuʿida l-mutaqūna fīhā anhārun min māin ghayri āsinin wa-anhārun min labanin lam yataghayyar ṭaʿmuhu wa-anhārun min khamrin ladhatin lilshāribīna wa-anhārun min ʿasalin muṣaffan walahum fīhā min kulli l-thamarāti wamaghfiratun min rabbihim kaman huwa khālidun fī l-nāri wasuqū māan ḥamīman faqaṭṭaʿa amʿāahu

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَسۡتَمِعُ إِلَیۡكَ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا خَرَجُوا۟ مِنۡ عِندِكَ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلۡعِلۡمَ مَاذَا قَالَ ءَانِفًاۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ وَٱتَّبَعُوۤا۟ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُمۡ ۝١٦

Some disbelievers listen to your sermons and, after they leave, they jokingly, ask: “What in the Heaven was he talking about?” God [in response to their jokes] seals their heart and, in consequence, they will follow their lowly desires

wamin'hum man yastamiʿu ilayka ḥattā idhā kharajū min ʿindika qālū lilladhīna ūtū l-ʿil'ma mādhā qāla ānifan ulāika alladhīna ṭabaʿa l-lahu ʿalā qulūbihim wa-ittabaʿū ahwāahu

وَٱلَّذِینَ ٱهۡتَدَوۡا۟ زَادَهُمۡ هُدࣰى وَءَاتَىٰهُمۡ تَقۡوَىٰهُمۡ ۝١٧

As for those who [listen to your sermons and] get guidance, God guides them further and leads them to the righteousness

wa-alladhīna ih'tadaw zādahum hudan waātāhum taqwāhu

فَهَلۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأۡتِیَهُم بَغۡتَةࣰۖ فَقَدۡ جَاۤءَ أَشۡرَاطُهَاۚ فَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمۡ إِذَا جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ ذِكۡرَىٰهُمۡ ۝١٨

Are they waiting till their resurrection [when they will have no time to repent]? They are only one step away from it. When they are resurrected, what chance will they find to listen and take advantage of the God’s message

fahal yanẓurūna illā l-sāʿata an tatiyahum baghtatan faqad jāa ashrāṭuhā fa-annā lahum idhā jāathum dhik'rāhu

فَٱعۡلَمۡ أَنَّهُۥ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِۗ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمۡ وَمَثۡوَىٰكُمۡ ۝١٩

Know it well that there is none worthy of worship but God. Ask forgiveness for your sins, as well as the sins of the believing men and women. God is watching you in public and in the privacy of your own homes

fa-iʿ'lam annahu lā ilāha illā l-lahu wa-is'taghfir lidhanbika walil'mu'minīna wal-mu'mināti wal-lahu yaʿlamu mutaqallabakum wamathwāku

3 The Weak-hearted Ones

وَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَتۡ سُورَةࣱۖ فَإِذَاۤ أُنزِلَتۡ سُورَةࣱ مُّحۡكَمَةࣱ وَذُكِرَ فِیهَا ٱلۡقِتَالُ رَأَیۡتَ ٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضࣱ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَیۡكَ نَظَرَ ٱلۡمَغۡشِیِّ عَلَیۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۖ فَأَوۡلَىٰ لَهُمۡ ۝٢٠

The believers were used to ask, “Why God does not send a verse to let us fight [to protect ourselves]?” But when a decisive verse about the right to fight was sent down, you saw, those who harbored doubt in their hearts, looking at you as though the shadow of death is hanging over them

wayaqūlu alladhīna āmanū lawlā nuzzilat sūratun fa-idhā unzilat sūratun muḥ'kamatun wadhukira fīhā l-qitālu ra-ayta alladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun yanẓurūna ilayka naẓara l-maghshiyi ʿalayhi mina l-mawti fa-awlā lahu

طَاعَةࣱ وَقَوۡلࣱ مَّعۡرُوفࣱۚ فَإِذَا عَزَمَ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ فَلَوۡ صَدَقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَكَانَ خَیۡرࣰا لَّهُمۡ ۝٢١

Obedient and righteous by word! If they knew how beneficial it would have been for them to fight when God asked them to do so

ṭāʿatun waqawlun maʿrūfun fa-idhā ʿazama l-amru falaw ṣadaqū l-laha lakāna khayran lahu

فَهَلۡ عَسَیۡتُمۡ إِن تَوَلَّیۡتُمۡ أَن تُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوۤا۟ أَرۡحَامَكُمۡ ۝٢٢

[Now that you are questioning the Lord’s commands,] What else is next? Turning back to the days of ignorance, starting mischief on earth and mistreating your relatives

fahal ʿasaytum in tawallaytum an tuf'sidū fī l-arḍi watuqaṭṭiʿū arḥāmaku

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَأَصَمَّهُمۡ وَأَعۡمَىٰۤ أَبۡصَـٰرَهُمۡ ۝٢٣

These [hypocrites] deserve the curse of God. That is why God has made them deaf and blind [to the truth]

ulāika alladhīna laʿanahumu l-lahu fa-aṣammahum wa-aʿmā abṣārahu

أَفَلَا یَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ أَمۡ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقۡفَالُهَاۤ ۝٢٤

Why do they not study Qur’an carefully? Do their brains not functioning

afalā yatadabbarūna l-qur'āna am ʿalā qulūbin aqfāluh

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱرۡتَدُّوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَدۡبَـٰرِهِم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡهُدَى ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ سَوَّلَ لَهُمۡ وَأَمۡلَىٰ لَهُمۡ ۝٢٥

The fact of the matter is that Satan has enticed those who turn back to the ignorance, after having exposed to the Divine Guidance

inna alladhīna ir'taddū ʿalā adbārihim min baʿdi mā tabayyana lahumu l-hudā l-shayṭānu sawwala lahum wa-amlā lahu

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ كَرِهُوا۟ مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ سَنُطِیعُكُمۡ فِی بَعۡضِ ٱلۡأَمۡرِۖ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ إِسۡرَارَهُمۡ ۝٢٦

That is why they said to those who hate God’s message that: “We agree with some of your ideas.” They can not hid their secret conspiracies from God

dhālika bi-annahum qālū lilladhīna karihū mā nazzala l-lahu sanuṭīʿukum fī baʿḍi l-amri wal-lahu yaʿlamu is'rārahu

فَكَیۡفَ إِذَا تَوَفَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَضۡرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمۡ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ ۝٢٧

When the Angles take their souls, they will beat them on their faces and kick their rear ends

fakayfa idhā tawaffathumu l-malāikatu yaḍribūna wujūhahum wa-adbārahu

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَاۤ أَسۡخَطَ ٱللَّهَ وَكَرِهُوا۟ رِضۡوَ ٰنَهُۥ فَأَحۡبَطَ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٢٨

That is because, they turned away from the things that pleases God and adapted a way of life that made God angry at them. All their deeds therefore turned fruitless

dhālika bi-annahumu ittabaʿū mā askhaṭa l-laha wakarihū riḍ'wānahu fa-aḥbaṭa aʿmālahu

4 An Exhortation

أَمۡ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَن لَّن یُخۡرِجَ ٱللَّهُ أَضۡغَـٰنَهُمۡ ۝٢٩

Those who have a disease [of doubt] in their hearts, do they really think that God will not expose them

am ḥasiba alladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun an lan yukh'rija l-lahu aḍghānahu

وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَأَرَیۡنَـٰكَهُمۡ فَلَعَرَفۡتَهُم بِسِیمَـٰهُمۡۚ وَلَتَعۡرِفَنَّهُمۡ فِی لَحۡنِ ٱلۡقَوۡلِۚ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ أَعۡمَـٰلَكُمۡ ۝٣٠

If I (God) will, I can mark their faces to be recognizable. However, you can easily recognize them by the way that they argue. God is aware of what you all do

walaw nashāu la-araynākahum falaʿaraftahum bisīmāhum walataʿrifannahum fī laḥni l-qawli wal-lahu yaʿlamu aʿmālaku

وَلَنَبۡلُوَنَّكُمۡ حَتَّىٰ نَعۡلَمَ ٱلۡمُجَـٰهِدِینَ مِنكُمۡ وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ وَنَبۡلُوَا۟ أَخۡبَارَكُمۡ ۝٣١

I will certainly put you to the test so that you may have an opportunity to show your real selves; so that you show your patience and struggle in the way of God

walanabluwannakum ḥattā naʿlama l-mujāhidīna minkum wal-ṣābirīna wanabluwā akhbāraku

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَشَاۤقُّوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ لَن یَضُرُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ شَیۡءࣰا وَسَیُحۡبِطُ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٣٢

Those who embraced Islam and then denied the truth, prevented the others to walk on the way of their Lord and disputed with the Prophet of God, can in no way harm God. On the contrary, God will render their deeds null

inna alladhīna kafarū waṣaddū ʿan sabīli l-lahi washāqqū l-rasūla min baʿdi mā tabayyana lahumu l-hudā lan yaḍurrū l-laha shayan wasayuḥ'biṭu aʿmālahu

۞ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَلَا تُبۡطِلُوۤا۟ أَعۡمَـٰلَكُمۡ ۝٣٣

O’ you who have believed, obey God and His Prophet; otherwise all your deeds will be fruitless

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū aṭīʿū l-laha wa-aṭīʿū l-rasūla walā tub'ṭilū aʿmālaku

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ مَاتُوا۟ وَهُمۡ كُفَّارࣱ فَلَن یَغۡفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡ ۝٣٤

As for those who choose the disbelief, prevent the others [physically, verbally or psychologically] to follow the way of God and die in the state of disbelief, God will never forgive them

inna alladhīna kafarū waṣaddū ʿan sabīli l-lahi thumma mātū wahum kuffārun falan yaghfira l-lahu lahu

فَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَتَدۡعُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّلۡمِ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَوۡنَ وَٱللَّهُ مَعَكُمۡ وَلَن یَتِرَكُمۡ أَعۡمَـٰلَكُمۡ ۝٣٥

Do not surrender for the sake of peace as God has guaranteed the victory for you. God is with you; He will never let your struggle to go in vain

falā tahinū watadʿū ilā l-salmi wa-antumu l-aʿlawna wal-lahu maʿakum walan yatirakum aʿmālaku

إِنَّمَا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَا لَعِبࣱ وَلَهۡوࣱۚ وَإِن تُؤۡمِنُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ یُؤۡتِكُمۡ أُجُورَكُمۡ وَلَا یَسۡءَلۡكُمۡ أَمۡوَ ٰلَكُمۡ ۝٣٦

Know that the life of this world is nothing but a game and an entertainment. If you believe and lead a righteous life, God will reward you without asking a price for it

innamā l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā laʿibun walahwun wa-in tu'minū watattaqū yu'tikum ujūrakum walā yasalkum amwālaku

إِن یَسۡءَلۡكُمُوهَا فَیُحۡفِكُمۡ تَبۡخَلُوا۟ وَیُخۡرِجۡ أَضۡغَـٰنَكُمۡ ۝٣٧

If God had ever asked for an excessive charity from you, you might have turned stingy and showed your evil side

in yasalkumūhā fayuḥ'fikum tabkhalū wayukh'rij aḍghānaku

هَـٰۤأَنتُمۡ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ تُدۡعَوۡنَ لِتُنفِقُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ فَمِنكُم مَّن یَبۡخَلُۖ وَمَن یَبۡخَلۡ فَإِنَّمَا یَبۡخَلُ عَن نَّفۡسِهِۦۚ وَٱللَّهُ ٱلۡغَنِیُّ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلۡفُقَرَاۤءُۚ وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوۡا۟ یَسۡتَبۡدِلۡ قَوۡمًا غَیۡرَكُمۡ ثُمَّ لَا یَكُونُوۤا۟ أَمۡثَـٰلَكُم ۝٣٨

You are invited to spend [as generously as you can] in the way of God. Among you they are some who are stingy. The stingy ones are indeed stingy toward their own soul. Know that God is rich: It is you who are poor. If you turn away, God will replace you by another people and they will definitely will not be like you

hāantum hāulāi tud'ʿawna litunfiqū fī sabīli l-lahi faminkum man yabkhalu waman yabkhal fa-innamā yabkhalu ʿan nafsihi wal-lahu l-ghaniyu wa-antumu l-fuqarāu wa-in tatawallaw yastabdil qawman ghayrakum thumma lā yakūnū amthālaku
