وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَا نُزِّلَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدࣲ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمۡ كَفَّرَ عَنۡهُمۡ سَیِّءَاتِهِمۡ وَأَصۡلَحَ بَالَهُمۡ ۝٢

Musharraf Hussain

but the believers who are righteous and convinced of the truth revealed to Muhammad from His Lord, will be forgiven their sins, and Allah will improve their current situation.

wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti waāmanū bimā nuzzila ʿalā muḥammadin wahuwa l-ḥaqu min rabbihim kaffara ʿanhum sayyiātihim wa-aṣlaḥa bālahu

47:3

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلۡبَـٰطِلَ وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلۡحَقَّ مِن رَّبِّهِمۡۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَضۡرِبُ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ أَمۡثَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٣

Musharraf Hussain

This is because the disbelievers follow falsehood and the believers follow their Lord’s truth. This is how Allah presents examples for people.

dhālika bi-anna alladhīna kafarū ittabaʿū l-bāṭila wa-anna alladhīna āmanū ittabaʿū l-ḥaqa min rabbihim kadhālika yaḍribu l-lahu lilnnāsi amthālahu

47:4

فَإِذَا لَقِیتُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَضَرۡبَ ٱلرِّقَابِ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَثۡخَنتُمُوهُمۡ فَشُدُّوا۟ ٱلۡوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنَّۢا بَعۡدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَاۤءً حَتَّىٰ تَضَعَ ٱلۡحَرۡبُ أَوۡزَارَهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَۖ وَلَوۡ یَشَاۤءُ ٱللَّهُ لَٱنتَصَرَ مِنۡهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن لِّیَبۡلُوَا۟ بَعۡضَكُم بِبَعۡضࣲۗ وَٱلَّذِینَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَن یُضِلَّ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٤

Musharraf Hussain

When you encounter the disbelievers in battle beat their necks until they are thoroughly weakened, then tie them up with ropes as captives. Afterwards, you can release them gracefully or take a ransom from them, but they must have surrendered their weapons. That is an order. Had Allah wanted, He could have taken revenge Himself from them, but he wishes to test some of you with others. Allah will never let the deeds of those killed go to waste.

fa-idhā laqītumu alladhīna kafarū faḍarba l-riqābi ḥattā idhā athkhantumūhum fashuddū l-wathāqa fa-immā mannan baʿdu wa-immā fidāan ḥattā taḍaʿa l-ḥarbu awzārahā dhālika walaw yashāu l-lahu la-intaṣara min'hum walākin liyabluwā baʿḍakum bibaʿḍin wa-alladhīna qutilū fī sabīli l-lahi falan yuḍilla aʿmālahu

47:5

سَیَهۡدِیهِمۡ وَیُصۡلِحُ بَالَهُمۡ ۝٥

Musharraf Hussain

He will guide and improve their situation.

sayahdīhim wayuṣ'liḥu bālahu

47:6

وَیُدۡخِلُهُمُ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ عَرَّفَهَا لَهُمۡ ۝٦

Musharraf Hussain

And He shall admit them into the Paradise He guided them to

wayud'khiluhumu l-janata ʿarrafahā lahu

47:7

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِن تَنصُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ یَنصُرۡكُمۡ وَیُثَبِّتۡ أَقۡدَامَكُمۡ ۝٧

Musharraf Hussain

Believers, if you help Allah’s religion then he will help you and make you firm and strong-minded.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū in tanṣurū l-laha yanṣur'kum wayuthabbit aqdāmaku

47:8

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَتَعۡسࣰا لَّهُمۡ وَأَضَلَّ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٨

Musharraf Hussain

On the other hand, the disbelievers will be ruined and their works will go to waste;

wa-alladhīna kafarū fataʿsan lahum wa-aḍalla aʿmālahu

47:9

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَرِهُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأَحۡبَطَ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٩

Musharraf Hussain

this is because they dislike what Allah reveals and wasted their works.

dhālika bi-annahum karihū mā anzala l-lahu fa-aḥbaṭa aʿmālahu

47:10

۞ أَفَلَمۡ یَسِیرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَیَنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۖ دَمَّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡهِمۡۖ وَلِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ أَمۡثَـٰلُهَا ۝١٠

Musharraf Hussain

Haven’t they travelled about in the land so they may see the fate of those people before them? Allah destroyed them and the same fate awaits these disbelievers.

afalam yasīrū fī l-arḍi fayanẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu alladhīna min qablihim dammara l-lahu ʿalayhim walil'kāfirīna amthāluh

47:11

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوۡلَى ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَأَنَّ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ لَا مَوۡلَىٰ لَهُمۡ ۝١١

Musharraf Hussain

This is because Allah is the protector of believers, but the disbelievers have no protector.

dhālika bi-anna l-laha mawlā alladhīna āmanū wa-anna l-kāfirīna lā mawlā lahu

47:12

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُدۡخِلُ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُۖ وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ یَتَمَتَّعُونَ وَیَأۡكُلُونَ كَمَا تَأۡكُلُ ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمُ وَٱلنَّارُ مَثۡوࣰى لَّهُمۡ ۝١٢

Musharraf Hussain

Allah will admit the righteous believers into Paradise, with running streams. The disbelievers today are enjoying themselves and eating like cattle, although the Fire is their final home.

inna l-laha yud'khilu alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru wa-alladhīna kafarū yatamattaʿūna wayakulūna kamā takulu l-anʿāmu wal-nāru mathwan lahu

47:13

وَكَأَیِّن مِّن قَرۡیَةٍ هِیَ أَشَدُّ قُوَّةࣰ مِّن قَرۡیَتِكَ ٱلَّتِیۤ أَخۡرَجَتۡكَ أَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَلَا نَاصِرَ لَهُمۡ ۝١٣

Musharraf Hussain

There were many towns more powerful than the town that expelled you, yet We destroyed their residents and they had no helper

waka-ayyin min qaryatin hiya ashaddu quwwatan min qaryatika allatī akhrajatka ahlaknāhum falā nāṣira lahu

47:14

أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَىٰ بَیِّنَةࣲ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ كَمَن زُیِّنَ لَهُۥ سُوۤءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَٱتَّبَعُوۤا۟ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُم ۝١٤

Musharraf Hussain

Is the one who accepted the Lord’s clear arguments like the one whose evil deeds seem attractive and he follows his desires?

afaman kāna ʿalā bayyinatin min rabbihi kaman zuyyina lahu sūu ʿamalihi wa-ittabaʿū ahwāahu

47:15

مَّثَلُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِی وُعِدَ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَۖ فِیهَاۤ أَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّن مَّاۤءٍ غَیۡرِ ءَاسِنࣲ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّن لَّبَنࣲ لَّمۡ یَتَغَیَّرۡ طَعۡمُهُۥ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّنۡ خَمۡرࣲ لَّذَّةࣲ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِینَ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّنۡ عَسَلࣲ مُّصَفࣰّىۖ وَلَهُمۡ فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ وَمَغۡفِرَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡۖ كَمَنۡ هُوَ خَـٰلِدࣱ فِی ٱلنَّارِ وَسُقُوا۟ مَاۤءً حَمِیمࣰا فَقَطَّعَ أَمۡعَاۤءَهُمۡ ۝١٥

Musharraf Hussain

The Paradise promised to the Allah-conscious will have: rivers of water whose taste and smell never changes; rivers of milk whose taste never changes; rivers of wine that give pleasure to their drinkers; and rivers of pure honey; for them are all kinds of fruits as well as forgiveness from their Lord. Can these be like those who will be in the Fire forever, given boiling water to drink that cuts through their bowels

mathalu l-janati allatī wuʿida l-mutaqūna fīhā anhārun min māin ghayri āsinin wa-anhārun min labanin lam yataghayyar ṭaʿmuhu wa-anhārun min khamrin ladhatin lilshāribīna wa-anhārun min ʿasalin muṣaffan walahum fīhā min kulli l-thamarāti wamaghfiratun min rabbihim kaman huwa khālidun fī l-nāri wasuqū māan ḥamīman faqaṭṭaʿa amʿāahu

47:16

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَسۡتَمِعُ إِلَیۡكَ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا خَرَجُوا۟ مِنۡ عِندِكَ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلۡعِلۡمَ مَاذَا قَالَ ءَانِفًاۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ وَٱتَّبَعُوۤا۟ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُمۡ ۝١٦

Musharraf Hussain

Some of them listen carefully to you until they leave you, and say to those who were given knowledge, “What was he saying just now?” These are people whose hearts Allah sealed and they followed their desires.

wamin'hum man yastamiʿu ilayka ḥattā idhā kharajū min ʿindika qālū lilladhīna ūtū l-ʿil'ma mādhā qāla ānifan ulāika alladhīna ṭabaʿa l-lahu ʿalā qulūbihim wa-ittabaʿū ahwāahu

47:17

وَٱلَّذِینَ ٱهۡتَدَوۡا۟ زَادَهُمۡ هُدࣰى وَءَاتَىٰهُمۡ تَقۡوَىٰهُمۡ ۝١٧

Musharraf Hussain

Those who followed the straight path, Allah increased their guidance and blessed them with piety.

wa-alladhīna ih'tadaw zādahum hudan waātāhum taqwāhu

47:18

فَهَلۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأۡتِیَهُم بَغۡتَةࣰۖ فَقَدۡ جَاۤءَ أَشۡرَاطُهَاۚ فَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمۡ إِذَا جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ ذِكۡرَىٰهُمۡ ۝١٨

Musharraf Hussain

So are they waiting for the Final Hour to overwhelm them suddenly? Its signs have already appeared, so what use will it be to pay attention then?

fahal yanẓurūna illā l-sāʿata an tatiyahum baghtatan faqad jāa ashrāṭuhā fa-annā lahum idhā jāathum dhik'rāhu

47:19

فَٱعۡلَمۡ أَنَّهُۥ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِۗ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمۡ وَمَثۡوَىٰكُمۡ ۝١٩

Musharraf Hussain

Know, there is no God but Allah, and pray that Allah protects your people from sins, and seek forgiveness for the sins of all believing men and women. Allah knows your places of work and rest

fa-iʿ'lam annahu lā ilāha illā l-lahu wa-is'taghfir lidhanbika walil'mu'minīna wal-mu'mināti wal-lahu yaʿlamu mutaqallabakum wamathwāku

47:20

وَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَتۡ سُورَةࣱۖ فَإِذَاۤ أُنزِلَتۡ سُورَةࣱ مُّحۡكَمَةࣱ وَذُكِرَ فِیهَا ٱلۡقِتَالُ رَأَیۡتَ ٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضࣱ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَیۡكَ نَظَرَ ٱلۡمَغۡشِیِّ عَلَیۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۖ فَأَوۡلَىٰ لَهُمۡ ۝٢٠

Musharraf Hussain

And the believers say, “Why hasn’t a surat been revealed about fighting?” When a decisive surat is revealed that mentions fighting, you will see people with a disease in their hearts looking at you like the one who is in death throes. It would be far better for them

wayaqūlu alladhīna āmanū lawlā nuzzilat sūratun fa-idhā unzilat sūratun muḥ'kamatun wadhukira fīhā l-qitālu ra-ayta alladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun yanẓurūna ilayka naẓara l-maghshiyi ʿalayhi mina l-mawti fa-awlā lahu

47:21

طَاعَةࣱ وَقَوۡلࣱ مَّعۡرُوفࣱۚ فَإِذَا عَزَمَ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ فَلَوۡ صَدَقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَكَانَ خَیۡرࣰا لَّهُمۡ ۝٢١

Musharraf Hussain

to obey and to say a good thing when the commandment came to pass. If only they were sincere about Allah, that would be far better for them.

ṭāʿatun waqawlun maʿrūfun fa-idhā ʿazama l-amru falaw ṣadaqū l-laha lakāna khayran lahu

47:22

فَهَلۡ عَسَیۡتُمۡ إِن تَوَلَّیۡتُمۡ أَن تُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوۤا۟ أَرۡحَامَكُمۡ ۝٢٢

Musharraf Hussain

So if you turn away now perhaps you would create corruption on the land and sever your blood ties.

fahal ʿasaytum in tawallaytum an tuf'sidū fī l-arḍi watuqaṭṭiʿū arḥāmaku

47:23

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَأَصَمَّهُمۡ وَأَعۡمَىٰۤ أَبۡصَـٰرَهُمۡ ۝٢٣

Musharraf Hussain

Allah cursed these people, made them deaf, and blinded their eyes.

ulāika alladhīna laʿanahumu l-lahu fa-aṣammahum wa-aʿmā abṣārahu

47:24

أَفَلَا یَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ أَمۡ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقۡفَالُهَاۤ ۝٢٤

Musharraf Hussain

Haven’t they reflected on the Quran? Or are there locks on their minds

afalā yatadabbarūna l-qur'āna am ʿalā qulūbin aqfāluh

47:25

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱرۡتَدُّوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَدۡبَـٰرِهِم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡهُدَى ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ سَوَّلَ لَهُمۡ وَأَمۡلَىٰ لَهُمۡ ۝٢٥

Musharraf Hussain

Those who turn their backs after the truth was made clear to them have been fooled by Satan, and given false long hopes.

inna alladhīna ir'taddū ʿalā adbārihim min baʿdi mā tabayyana lahumu l-hudā l-shayṭānu sawwala lahum wa-amlā lahu

47:26

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِینَ كَرِهُوا۟ مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ سَنُطِیعُكُمۡ فِی بَعۡضِ ٱلۡأَمۡرِۖ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ إِسۡرَارَهُمۡ ۝٢٦

Musharraf Hussain

That is because they say to those who hate what Allah has revealed, “We will follow you in some things only.” Allah knows their secrets.

dhālika bi-annahum qālū lilladhīna karihū mā nazzala l-lahu sanuṭīʿukum fī baʿḍi l-amri wal-lahu yaʿlamu is'rārahu

47:27

فَكَیۡفَ إِذَا تَوَفَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَضۡرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمۡ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ ۝٢٧

Musharraf Hussain

What will it be like when the angels take their souls at the time of death, and they will be striking them on their faces and backs.

fakayfa idhā tawaffathumu l-malāikatu yaḍribūna wujūhahum wa-adbārahu

47:28

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَاۤ أَسۡخَطَ ٱللَّهَ وَكَرِهُوا۟ رِضۡوَ ٰنَهُۥ فَأَحۡبَطَ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٢٨

Musharraf Hussain

That punishment will be because they followed what angers Allah, and they disliked seeking divine pleasure, so their works are now worthless

dhālika bi-annahumu ittabaʿū mā askhaṭa l-laha wakarihū riḍ'wānahu fa-aḥbaṭa aʿmālahu

47:29

أَمۡ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَن لَّن یُخۡرِجَ ٱللَّهُ أَضۡغَـٰنَهُمۡ ۝٢٩

Musharraf Hussain

Or do those with disease in their heart think Allah will never expose their hatred?

am ḥasiba alladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun an lan yukh'rija l-lahu aḍghānahu

47:30

وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَأَرَیۡنَـٰكَهُمۡ فَلَعَرَفۡتَهُم بِسِیمَـٰهُمۡۚ وَلَتَعۡرِفَنَّهُمۡ فِی لَحۡنِ ٱلۡقَوۡلِۚ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ أَعۡمَـٰلَكُمۡ ۝٣٠

Musharraf Hussain

If We wanted we can show them to you, and you will easily recognise them from their faces and from the tone of their speech. Allah knows your works.

walaw nashāu la-araynākahum falaʿaraftahum bisīmāhum walataʿrifannahum fī laḥni l-qawli wal-lahu yaʿlamu aʿmālaku

47:31

وَلَنَبۡلُوَنَّكُمۡ حَتَّىٰ نَعۡلَمَ ٱلۡمُجَـٰهِدِینَ مِنكُمۡ وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ وَنَبۡلُوَا۟ أَخۡبَارَكُمۡ ۝٣١

Musharraf Hussain

We shall test you in order to see who among you strives hard and is patient and test the sincerity of your claims.

walanabluwannakum ḥattā naʿlama l-mujāhidīna minkum wal-ṣābirīna wanabluwā akhbāraku

47:32

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَشَاۤقُّوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ لَن یَضُرُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ شَیۡءࣰا وَسَیُحۡبِطُ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٣٢

Musharraf Hussain

The disbelievers who stop others from Allah’s way and oppose the Messenger after the truth is made clear to them are incapable of harming Allah in the slightest. And their works will be worthless

inna alladhīna kafarū waṣaddū ʿan sabīli l-lahi washāqqū l-rasūla min baʿdi mā tabayyana lahumu l-hudā lan yaḍurrū l-laha shayan wasayuḥ'biṭu aʿmālahu

47:33

۞ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَلَا تُبۡطِلُوۤا۟ أَعۡمَـٰلَكُمۡ ۝٣٣

Musharraf Hussain

Believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and don’t ruin your works.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū aṭīʿū l-laha wa-aṭīʿū l-rasūla walā tub'ṭilū aʿmālaku

47:34

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ مَاتُوا۟ وَهُمۡ كُفَّارࣱ فَلَن یَغۡفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡ ۝٣٤

Musharraf Hussain

Surely, the disbelievers who stop others from Allah’s way will not be forgiven if they die as disbelievers.

inna alladhīna kafarū waṣaddū ʿan sabīli l-lahi thumma mātū wahum kuffārun falan yaghfira l-lahu lahu

47:35

فَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَتَدۡعُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّلۡمِ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَوۡنَ وَٱللَّهُ مَعَكُمۡ وَلَن یَتِرَكُمۡ أَعۡمَـٰلَكُمۡ ۝٣٥

Musharraf Hussain

Believers! Never lose heart nor beg for peace; you shall be dominant and Allah will be with you, and He will not deprive you of the reward for your works

falā tahinū watadʿū ilā l-salmi wa-antumu l-aʿlawna wal-lahu maʿakum walan yatirakum aʿmālaku

47:36

إِنَّمَا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَا لَعِبࣱ وَلَهۡوࣱۚ وَإِن تُؤۡمِنُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ یُؤۡتِكُمۡ أُجُورَكُمۡ وَلَا یَسۡءَلۡكُمۡ أَمۡوَ ٰلَكُمۡ ۝٣٦

Musharraf Hussain

Indeed, the life of this world is an amusement and pleasant pastime. However, if you believe and are mindful, you will be have rewards, and He will not ask you to give all of your wealth.

innamā l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā laʿibun walahwun wa-in tu'minū watattaqū yu'tikum ujūrakum walā yasalkum amwālaku

47:37

إِن یَسۡءَلۡكُمُوهَا فَیُحۡفِكُمۡ تَبۡخَلُوا۟ وَیُخۡرِجۡ أَضۡغَـٰنَكُمۡ ۝٣٧

Musharraf Hussain

Were He to demand from you to spend all of your wealth, you would be miserly and your dislike to spend would then be exposed.

in yasalkumūhā fayuḥ'fikum tabkhalū wayukh'rij aḍghānaku

47:38

هَـٰۤأَنتُمۡ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ تُدۡعَوۡنَ لِتُنفِقُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ فَمِنكُم مَّن یَبۡخَلُۖ وَمَن یَبۡخَلۡ فَإِنَّمَا یَبۡخَلُ عَن نَّفۡسِهِۦۚ وَٱللَّهُ ٱلۡغَنِیُّ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلۡفُقَرَاۤءُۚ وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوۡا۟ یَسۡتَبۡدِلۡ قَوۡمًا غَیۡرَكُمۡ ثُمَّ لَا یَكُونُوۤا۟ أَمۡثَـٰلَكُم ۝٣٨

Musharraf Hussain

You are called upon to spend some of it in Allah’s way, but some of you are miserly, and whoever is miserly deprives himself of goodness. Allah is Self-Sufficient, whereas you are in need of Him. And if you turn away, He will bring others in your place, and they will not be the likes of you

hāantum hāulāi tud'ʿawna litunfiqū fī sabīli l-lahi faminkum man yabkhalu waman yabkhal fa-innamā yabkhalu ʿan nafsihi wal-lahu l-ghaniyu wa-antumu l-fuqarāu wa-in tatawallaw yastabdil qawman ghayrakum thumma lā yakūnū amthālaku
