Surah 47. Muhammad (Muhammad)

1 Opponents will perish in War
47:4
فَإِذَا لَقِیتُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَضَرۡبَ ٱلرِّقَابِ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَثۡخَنتُمُوهُمۡ فَشُدُّوا۟ ٱلۡوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنَّۢا بَعۡدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَاۤءً حَتَّىٰ تَضَعَ ٱلۡحَرۡبُ أَوۡزَارَهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَۖ وَلَوۡ یَشَاۤءُ ٱللَّهُ لَٱنتَصَرَ مِنۡهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن لِّیَبۡلُوَا۟ بَعۡضَكُم بِبَعۡضࣲۗ وَٱلَّذِینَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَن یُضِلَّ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ ۝٤
Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar
So when you met those who were ungrateful, then, strike their thick necks until you gave them a sound thrashing. Then, tie them fast with restraints. And afterwards either have good will towards them or take ransom for them until the war ends, laying down its heavy load. Thus, it is so! But if God willed, He Himself would have, certainly, avenged you. But it is to try some of you with some others. As for those who were slain in the way of God, He will never cause their actions to go astray.
fa-idhā laqītumu alladhīna kafarū faḍarba l-riqābi ḥattā idhā athkhantumūhum fashuddū l-wathāqa fa-immā mannan baʿdu wa-immā fidāan ḥattā taḍaʿa l-ḥarbu awzārahā dhālika walaw yashāu l-lahu la-intaṣara min'hum walākin liyabluwā baʿḍakum bibaʿḍin wa-alladhīna qutilū fī sabīli l-lahi falan yuḍilla aʿmālahu
2 Oppressors brought low
47:15
مَّثَلُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِی وُعِدَ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَۖ فِیهَاۤ أَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّن مَّاۤءٍ غَیۡرِ ءَاسِنࣲ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّن لَّبَنࣲ لَّمۡ یَتَغَیَّرۡ طَعۡمُهُۥ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّنۡ خَمۡرࣲ لَّذَّةࣲ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِینَ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣱ مِّنۡ عَسَلࣲ مُّصَفࣰّىۖ وَلَهُمۡ فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ وَمَغۡفِرَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡۖ كَمَنۡ هُوَ خَـٰلِدࣱ فِی ٱلنَّارِ وَسُقُوا۟ مَاۤءً حَمِیمࣰا فَقَطَّعَ أَمۡعَاۤءَهُمۡ ۝١٥
Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar
This is the parable of the Garden which was promised the ones who are Godfearing: In it are rivers of unpolluted water and rivers of milk, the taste of which is not modified and rivers of intoxicants delightful to ones who drink and rivers of clarified honey, and in it for them all kinds of fruits and forgiveness from their Lord. Is this like ones who will dwell forever in the fire and they were given scalding water to drink so that it cuts off their bowels?
mathalu l-janati allatī wuʿida l-mutaqūna fīhā anhārun min māin ghayri āsinin wa-anhārun min labanin lam yataghayyar ṭaʿmuhu wa-anhārun min khamrin ladhatin lilshāribīna wa-anhārun min ʿasalin muṣaffan walahum fīhā min kulli l-thamarāti wamaghfiratun min rabbihim kaman huwa khālidun fī l-nāri wasuqū māan ḥamīman faqaṭṭaʿa amʿāahu
