قُل لِّعِبَادِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ یُقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَیُنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ سِرࣰّا وَعَلَانِیَةࣰ مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن یَأۡتِیَ یَوۡمࣱ لَّا بَیۡعࣱ فِیهِ وَلَا خِلَـٰلٌ ٣١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
[O Muhammad], tell My servants who have believed to establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, before a Day comes in which there will be no exchange, nor any friendships
Abdel Haleem:
Tell My servants who have believed to keep up the prayer and give, secretly and in public, out of what We have provided them, before a Day comes when there will be no trading or friendship
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Tell My bondmen who believe to establish worship and spend of that which We have given them, secretly and publicly, before a day cometh wherein there will be neither traffick nor befriending
فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ وَعۡدُ أُولَىٰهُمَا بَعَثۡنَا عَلَیۡكُمۡ عِبَادࣰا لَّنَاۤ أُو۟لِی بَأۡسࣲ شَدِیدࣲ فَجَاسُوا۟ خِلَـٰلَ ٱلدِّیَارِۚ وَكَانَ وَعۡدࣰا مَّفۡعُولࣰا ٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
So when the [time of] promise came for the first of them, We sent against you servants of Ours - those of great military might, and they probed [even] into the homes, and it was a promise fulfilled
Abdel Haleem:
When the first of these warnings was fulfilled, We sent against you servants of Ours with great force, and they ravaged your homes. That warning was fulfilled
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
So when the time for the first of the two came, We roused against you slaves of Ours of great might who ravaged (your) country, and it was a threat performed
وَإِن كَادُوا۟ لَیَفۡتِنُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ لِتَفۡتَرِیَ عَلَیۡنَا غَیۡرَهُۥۖ وَإِذࣰا لَّٱتَّخَذُوكَ خَلِیلࣰا ٧٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And indeed, they were about to tempt you away from that which We revealed to you in order to [make] you invent about Us something else; and then they would have taken you as a friend
Abdel Haleem:
[Prophet], the disbelievers tried to tempt you away from what We revealed to you, so that you would invent some other revelation and attribute it to Us and then they would have taken you as a friend
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
And they indeed strove hard to beguile thee (Muhammad) away from that wherewith We have inspired thee, that thou shouldst invent other than it against Us; and then would they have accepted thee as a friend
أَوۡ تَكُونَ لَكَ جَنَّةࣱ مِّن نَّخِیلࣲ وَعِنَبࣲ فَتُفَجِّرَ ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرَ خِلَـٰلَهَا تَفۡجِیرًا ٩١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Or [until] you have a garden of palm tress and grapes and make rivers gush forth within them in force [and abundance]
Abdel Haleem:
or until you have a garden of date palms and vines, and make rivers pour through them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Or thou have a garden of date-palms and grapes, and cause rivers to gush forth therein abundantly
The Cave 18:33
Noun
كِلۡتَا ٱلۡجَنَّتَیۡنِ ءَاتَتۡ أُكُلَهَا وَلَمۡ تَظۡلِم مِّنۡهُ شَیۡءࣰاۚ وَفَجَّرۡنَا خِلَـٰلَهُمَا نَهَرࣰا ٣٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Each of the two gardens produced its fruit and did not fall short thereof in anything. And We caused to gush forth within them a river
Abdel Haleem:
both gardens yielded fruit and did not fail in any way; We made a stream flow through them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Each of the gardens gave its fruit and withheld naught thereof. And We caused a river to gush forth therein
The Light 24:43
Noun
أَلَمۡ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یُزۡجِی سَحَابࣰا ثُمَّ یُؤَلِّفُ بَیۡنَهُۥ ثُمَّ یَجۡعَلُهُۥ رُكَامࣰا فَتَرَى ٱلۡوَدۡقَ یَخۡرُجُ مِنۡ خِلَـٰلِهِۦ وَیُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مِن جِبَالࣲ فِیهَا مِنۢ بَرَدࣲ فَیُصِیبُ بِهِۦ مَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَصۡرِفُهُۥ عَن مَّن یَشَاۤءُۖ یَكَادُ سَنَا بَرۡقِهِۦ یَذۡهَبُ بِٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرِ ٤٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Do you not see that Allah drives clouds? Then He brings them together, then He makes them into a mass, and you see the rain emerge from within it. And He sends down from the sky, mountains [of clouds] within which is hail, and He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills. The flash of its lightening almost takes away the eyesight
Abdel Haleem:
Do you not see that God drives the clouds, then gathers them together and piles them up until you see rain pour from their midst? He sends hail down from [such] mountains in the sky, pouring it on whoever He wishes and diverting it from whoever He wishes- the flash of its lightning almost snatches sight away
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Hast thou not seen how Allah wafteth the clouds, then gathereth them, then maketh them layers, and thou seest the rain come forth from between them; He sendeth down from the heaven mountains wherein is hail, and smiteth therewith whom He will, and averteth it from whom He will. The flashing of His lightning all but snatcheth away the sight
یَـٰوَیۡلَتَىٰ لَیۡتَنِی لَمۡ أَتَّخِذۡ فُلَانًا خَلِیلࣰا ٢٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend
Abdel Haleem:
Woe is me! If only I had not taken so and so as a friend
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Alas for me! Ah, would that I had never taken such an one for friend
أَمَّن جَعَلَ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ قَرَارࣰا وَجَعَلَ خِلَـٰلَهَاۤ أَنۡهَـٰرࣰا وَجَعَلَ لَهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَجَعَلَ بَیۡنَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَیۡنِ حَاجِزًاۗ أَءِلَـٰهࣱ مَّعَ ٱللَّهِۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ٦١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Is He [not best] who made the earth a stable ground and placed within it rivers and made for it firmly set mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier? Is there a deity with Allah ? [No], but most of them do not know
Abdel Haleem:
Who is it that made the earth a stable place to live? Who made rivers flow through it? Who set immovable mountains on it and created a barrier between the fresh and salt water? Is it another god beside God? No! But most of them do not know
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Is not He (best) Who made the earth a fixed abode, and placed rivers in the folds thereof, and placed firm hills therein, and hath set a barrier between the two seas? Is there any Allah beside Allah? Nay, but most of them know not
The Cow 2:254
Noun
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰكُم مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن یَأۡتِیَ یَوۡمࣱ لَّا بَیۡعࣱ فِیهِ وَلَا خُلَّةࣱ وَلَا شَفَـٰعَةࣱۗ وَٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ٢٥٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
O you who have believed, spend from that which We have provided for you before there comes a Day in which there is no exchange and no friendship and no intercession. And the disbelievers - they are the wrongdoers
Abdel Haleem:
You who believe, give from what We have provided for you, before the Day comes when there is no bargaining, no friendship, and no intercession. It is the disbelievers who are wrong
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
O ye who believe! spend of that wherewith We have provided you ere a day come when there will be no trafficking, nor friendship, nor intercession. The disbelievers, they are the wrong-doers
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی یُرۡسِلُ ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ فَتُثِیرُ سَحَابࣰا فَیَبۡسُطُهُۥ فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ كَیۡفَ یَشَاۤءُ وَیَجۡعَلُهُۥ كِسَفࣰا فَتَرَى ٱلۡوَدۡقَ یَخۡرُجُ مِنۡ خِلَـٰلِهِۦۖ فَإِذَاۤ أَصَابَ بِهِۦ مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۤ إِذَا هُمۡ یَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ ٤٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
It is Allah who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds and spread them in the sky however He wills, and He makes them fragments so you see the rain emerge from within them. And when He causes it to fall upon whom He wills of His servants, immediately they rejoic
Abdel Haleem:
It is God who sends out the winds; they stir up the clouds; He spreads them over the skies as He pleases; He makes them break up and you see the rain falling from them. See how they rejoice when He makes it fall upon whichever of His servants He wishes
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Allah is He Who sendeth the winds so that they raise clouds, and spreadeth them along the sky as pleaseth Him, and causeth them to break and thou seest the rain downpouring from within them. And when He maketh it to fall on whom He will of His bondmen, lo! they rejoice
ٱلۡأَخِلَّاۤءُ یَوۡمَىِٕذِۭ بَعۡضُهُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ٦٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Close friends, that Day, will be enemies to each other, except for the righteou
Abdel Haleem:
On that Day, friends will become each other’s enemies. Not so the righteous
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Friends on that day will be foes one to another, save those who kept their duty (to Allah)
Women 4:125
Noun
وَمَنۡ أَحۡسَنُ دِینࣰا مِّمَّنۡ أَسۡلَمَ وَجۡهَهُۥ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحۡسِنࣱ وَٱتَّبَعَ مِلَّةَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ حَنِیفࣰاۗ وَٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ خَلِیلࣰا ١٢٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
And who is better in religion than one who submits himself to Allah while being a doer of good and follows the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth? And Allah took Abraham as an intimate friend
Abdel Haleem:
Who could be better in religion than those who direct themselves wholly to God, do good, and follow the religion of Abraham, who was true in faith? God took Abraham as a friend
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Who is better in religion than he who surrendereth his purpose to Allah while doing good (to men) and followeth the tradition of Abraham, the upright? Allah (Himself) chose Abraham for friend
Repentance 9:47
Noun
لَوۡ خَرَجُوا۟ فِیكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمۡ إِلَّا خَبَالࣰا وَلَأَوۡضَعُوا۟ خِلَـٰلَكُمۡ یَبۡغُونَكُمُ ٱلۡفِتۡنَةَ وَفِیكُمۡ سَمَّـٰعُونَ لَهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمُۢ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ٤٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International):
Had they gone forth with you, they would not have increased you except in confusion, and they would have been active among you, seeking [to cause] you fitnah. And among you are avid listeners to them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers
Abdel Haleem:
They would only have given you trouble if they had gone out [to battle] with you: they would have scurried around, trying to sow discord among you, and some of you would willingly have listened to them- God knows exactly who does evil
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall:
Had they gone forth among you they had added to you naught save trouble and had hurried to and fro among you, seeking to cause sedition among you; and among you there are some who would have listened to them. Allah is Aware of evil-doers
