۞ وَلَوۡ یُعَجِّلُ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ ٱلشَّرَّ ٱسۡتِعۡجَالَهُم بِٱلۡخَیۡرِ لَقُضِیَ إِلَیۡهِمۡ أَجَلُهُمۡۖ فَنَذَرُ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَرۡجُونَ لِقَاۤءَنَا فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝١١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And if Allah was to hasten for the people the evil [they invoke] as He hastens for them the good, their term would have been ended for them. But We leave the ones who do not expect the meeting with Us, in their transgression, wandering blindl
Abdel Haleem: If God were to hasten on for people the harm [they have earned] as they wish to hasten on the good, their time would already be up. But We leave those who do not expect to meet Us to wander blindly in their excesses
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: If Allah were to hasten on for men the ill (that they have earned) as they would hasten on the good, their respite would already have expired. But We suffer those who look not for the meeting with Us to wander blindly on in their contumacy

Joseph 12:77 Noun
۞ قَالُوۤا۟ إِن یَسۡرِقۡ فَقَدۡ سَرَقَ أَخࣱ لَّهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُۚ فَأَسَرَّهَا یُوسُفُ فِی نَفۡسِهِۦ وَلَمۡ یُبۡدِهَا لَهُمۡۚ قَالَ أَنتُمۡ شَرࣱّ مَّكَانࣰاۖ وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا تَصِفُونَ ۝٧٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): They said, "If he steals - a brother of his has stolen before." But Joseph kept it within himself and did not reveal it to them. He said, "You are worse in position, and Allah is most knowing of what you describe."
Abdel Haleem: [His brothers] said, ‘If he is a thief then his brother was a thief before him,’ but Joseph kept his secrets and did not reveal anything to them. He said, ‘You are in a far worse situation. God knows best the truth of what you claim.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: They said: If he stealeth, a brother of his stole before. But Joseph kept it secret in his soul and revealed it not unto them. He said (within himself): Ye are in worse case, and Allah knoweth best (the truth of) that which ye allege
Children of Israel, The Israelites 17:11 Noun
وَیَدۡعُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ بِٱلشَّرِّ دُعَاۤءَهُۥ بِٱلۡخَیۡرِۖ وَكَانَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ عَجُولࣰا ۝١١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And man supplicates for evil as he supplicates for good, and man is ever hasty
Abdel Haleem: Yet man prays for harm, just as he prays for good: man is ever hasty
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Man prayeth for evil as he prayeth for good; for man was ever hasty
Children of Israel, The Israelites 17:83 Noun
وَإِذَاۤ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنِ أَعۡرَضَ وَنَءَا بِجَانِبِهِۦ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ كَانَ یَءُوسࣰا ۝٨٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when We bestow favor upon the disbeliever, he turns away and distances himself; and when evil touches him, he is ever despairing
Abdel Haleem: When We favour man he turns arrogantly to one side, but when harm touches him, he falls into despair
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when We make life pleasant unto man, he turneth away and is averse; and when ill toucheth him he is in despair
Mary 19:75 Noun
قُلۡ مَن كَانَ فِی ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةِ فَلۡیَمۡدُدۡ لَهُ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ مَدًّاۚ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا رَأَوۡا۟ مَا یُوعَدُونَ إِمَّا ٱلۡعَذَابَ وَإِمَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ فَسَیَعۡلَمُونَ مَنۡ هُوَ شَرࣱّ مَّكَانࣰا وَأَضۡعَفُ جُندࣰا ۝٧٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "Whoever is in error - let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension [in wealth and time] until, when they see that which they were promised - either punishment [in this world] or the Hour [of resurrection] - they will come to know who is worst in position and weaker in soldiers."
Abdel Haleem: Say [Prophet], ‘The Lord of Mercy lengthens [the lives] of the misguided, until, when they are confronted with what they have been warned about- either the punishment [in this life] or the Hour [of Judgement]- they realize who is worse situated and who has the weakest forces.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say: As for him who is in error, the Beneficent will verily prolong his span of life until, when they behold that which they were promised, whether it be punishment (in the world), or the Hour (of doom), they will know who is worse in position and who is weaker as an army
The Prophets 21:35 Noun
كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ ذَاۤىِٕقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۗ وَنَبۡلُوكُم بِٱلشَّرِّ وَٱلۡخَیۡرِ فِتۡنَةࣰۖ وَإِلَیۡنَا تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٣٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned
Abdel Haleem: Every soul is certain to taste death: We test you all through the bad and the good, and to Us you will all return
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Every soul must taste of death, and We try you with evil and with good, for ordeal. And unto Us ye will be returned
The Pilgrimage 22:72 Noun
وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتُنَا بَیِّنَـٰتࣲ تَعۡرِفُ فِی وُجُوهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلۡمُنكَرَۖ یَكَادُونَ یَسۡطُونَ بِٱلَّذِینَ یَتۡلُونَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَاۗ قُلۡ أَفَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِشَرࣲّ مِّن ذَ ٰلِكُمُۚ ٱلنَّارُ وَعَدَهَا ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٧٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, you recognize in the faces of those who disbelieve disapproval. They are almost on the verge of assaulting those who recite to them Our verses. Say, "Then shall I inform you of [what is] worse than that? [It is] the Fire which Allah has promised those who disbelieve, and wretched is the destination."
Abdel Haleem: [Prophet], you can see the hostility on the faces of the disbelievers when Our messages are recited clearly to them: it is almost as if they are going to attack those who recite Our messages to them. Say, ‘Shall I tell you what is far worse than what you feel now? The Fire that God has promised the disbelievers! What a dismal end!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when Our revelations are recited unto them, thou knowest the denial in the faces of those who disbelieve; they all but attack those who recite Our revelations unto them. Say: Shall I proclaim unto you worse than that? The Fire! Allah hath promised it for those who disbelieve. A hapless journey's end
The Light 24:11 Noun
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ جَاۤءُو بِٱلۡإِفۡكِ عُصۡبَةࣱ مِّنكُمۡۚ لَا تَحۡسَبُوهُ شَرࣰّا لَّكُمۖ بَلۡ هُوَ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡۚ لِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِىࣲٕ مِّنۡهُم مَّا ٱكۡتَسَبَ مِنَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِۚ وَٱلَّذِی تَوَلَّىٰ كِبۡرَهُۥ مِنۡهُمۡ لَهُۥ عَذَابٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝١١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, those who came with falsehood are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you; rather it is good for you. For every person among them is what [punishment] he has earned from the sin, and he who took upon himself the greater portion thereof - for him is a great punishment
Abdel Haleem: It was a group from among you that concocted the lie––do not consider it a bad thing for you [people]; it was a good thing––and every one of them will be charged with the sin he has earned. He who took the greatest part in it will have a painful punishment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! they who spread the slander are a gang among you. Deem it not a bad thing for you; nay, it is good for you. Unto every man of them (will be paid) that which he hath earned of the sin; and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be an awful doom
The Criterion, The Standard 25:34 Noun
ٱلَّذِینَ یُحۡشَرُونَ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ شَرࣱّ مَّكَانࣰا وَأَضَلُّ سَبِیلࣰا ۝٣٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): The ones who are gathered on their faces to Hell - those are the worst in position and farthest astray in [their] way
Abdel Haleem: It is those driven [falling], on their faces,to Hell who will be in the worst place- they are the furthest from the right path
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Those who will be gathered on their faces unto hell: such are worse in plight and further from the right road
The Cow 2:216 Noun
كُتِبَ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡقِتَالُ وَهُوَ كُرۡهࣱ لَّكُمۡۖ وَعَسَىٰۤ أَن تَكۡرَهُوا۟ شَیۡءࣰا وَهُوَ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡۖ وَعَسَىٰۤ أَن تُحِبُّوا۟ شَیۡءࣰا وَهُوَ شَرࣱّ لَّكُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢١٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not
Abdel Haleem: Fighting is ordained for you, though you dislike it. You may dislike something although it is good for you, or like something although it is bad for you: God knows and you do not.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you; but it may happen that ye hate a thing which is good for you, and it may happen that ye love a thing which is bad for you. Allah knoweth, ye know not
The Letter Sad 38:55 Noun
هَـٰذَاۚ وَإِنَّ لِلطَّـٰغِینَ لَشَرَّ مَءَابࣲ ۝٥٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return
Abdel Haleem: But the evildoers will have the worst place to return to
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: This (is for the righteous). And lo! for the transgressors there with be an evil journey's end
The Letter Sad 38:62 Noun
وَقَالُوا۟ مَا لَنَا لَا نَرَىٰ رِجَالࣰا كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَشۡرَارِ ۝٦٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And they will say, "Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the worst
Abdel Haleem: They will say, ‘Why do we not see those we thought were ba
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And they say: What aileth us that we behold not men whom we were wont to count among the wicked
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:180 Noun
وَلَا یَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یَبۡخَلُونَ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ هُوَ خَیۡرࣰا لَّهُمۖ بَلۡ هُوَ شَرࣱّ لَّهُمۡۖ سَیُطَوَّقُونَ مَا بَخِلُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۗ وَلِلَّهِ مِیرَ ٰثُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِیرࣱ ۝١٨٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And let not those who [greedily] withhold what Allah has given them of His bounty ever think that it is better for them. Rather, it is worse for them. Their necks will be encircled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. And Allah , with what you do, is [fully] Acquainted
Abdel Haleem: Those who are miserly with what God has granted them out of His grace should not think that it is good for them; on the contrary, it is bad for them. Whatever they meanly withhold will be hung around their necks on the Day of Resurrection. It is God who will inherit the heavens and earth: God is well aware of everything you do
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And let not those who hoard up that which Allah hath bestowed upon them of His bounty think that it is better for them. Nay, it is worse for them. That which they hoard will be their collar on the Day of Resurrection. Allah's is the heritage of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is Informed of what ye do
Explained in Detail, Revelations Well Expounded 41:49 Noun
لَّا یَسۡءَمُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ مِن دُعَاۤءِ ٱلۡخَیۡرِ وَإِن مَّسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَیَءُوسࣱ قَنُوطࣱ ۝٤٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Man is not weary of supplication for good [things], but if evil touches him, he is hopeless and despairing
Abdel Haleem: Man never tires of asking for good, but if evil touches him he loses all hope and becomes despondent
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Man tireth not of praying for good, and if ill toucheth him, then he is disheartened, desperate
Explained in Detail, Revelations Well Expounded 41:51 Noun
وَإِذَاۤ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنِ أَعۡرَضَ وَنَءَا بِجَانِبِهِۦ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَذُو دُعَاۤءٍ عَرِیضࣲ ۝٥١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when We bestow favor upon man, he turns away and distances himself; but when evil touches him, then he is full of extensive supplication
Abdel Haleem: Whenever We are gracious to man, he goes away haughtily, but, as soon as evil touches him, he turns to prolonged prayer
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: When We show favour unto man, he withdraweth and turneth aside, but when ill toucheth him then he aboundeth in prayer
The Table, The Table Spread 5:60 Noun
قُلۡ هَلۡ أُنَبِّئُكُم بِشَرࣲّ مِّن ذَ ٰلِكَ مَثُوبَةً عِندَ ٱللَّهِۚ مَن لَّعَنَهُ ٱللَّهُ وَغَضِبَ عَلَیۡهِ وَجَعَلَ مِنۡهُمُ ٱلۡقِرَدَةَ وَٱلۡخَنَازِیرَ وَعَبَدَ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ شَرࣱّ مَّكَانࣰا وَأَضَلُّ عَن سَوَاۤءِ ٱلسَّبِیلِ ۝٦٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "Shall I inform you of [what is] worse than that as penalty from Allah ? [It is that of] those whom Allah has cursed and with whom He became angry and made of them apes and pigs and slaves of Taghut. Those are worse in position and further astray from the sound way."
Abdel Haleem: Say, ‘Shall I tell you who deserves a worse punishment from God than [the one you wish upon] us? Those God distanced from Himself, was angry with, and condemned as apes and pigs, and those who worship idols: they are worse in rank and have strayed further from the right path
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Shall I tell thee of a worse (case) than theirs for retribution with Allah? (Worse is the case of him) whom Allah hath cursed, him on whom His wrath hath fallen and of whose sort Allah hath turned some to apes and swine, and who serveth idols. Such are in worse plight and further astray from the plain road
The Ascending Stairways, The Ladders 70:20 Noun
إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعࣰا ۝٢٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): When evil touches him, impatient
Abdel Haleem: he is fretful when misfortune touches him
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Fretful when evil befalleth hi
The Jinn 72:10 Noun
وَأَنَّا لَا نَدۡرِیۤ أَشَرٌّ أُرِیدَ بِمَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمۡ أَرَادَ بِهِمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ رَشَدࣰا ۝١٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course
Abdel Haleem: [so now] we do not know whether those who live on earth are due for misfortune, or whether their Lord intends to guide them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And we know not whether harm is boded unto all who are in the earth, or whether their Lord intendeth guidance for them
Man 76:11 Noun
فَوَقَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمِ وَلَقَّىٰهُمۡ نَضۡرَةࣰ وَسُرُورࣰا ۝١١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happines
Abdel Haleem: So God will save them from the woes of that Day, give them radiance and gladness
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy
Man 76:7 Noun
یُوفُونَ بِٱلنَّذۡرِ وَیَخَافُونَ یَوۡمࣰا كَانَ شَرُّهُۥ مُسۡتَطِیرࣰا ۝٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread
Abdel Haleem: They fulfil their vows; they fear a day of widespread woes
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading
The Emissaries, Winds Sent Forth 77:32 Noun
إِنَّهَا تَرۡمِی بِشَرَرࣲ كَٱلۡقَصۡرِ ۝٣٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress
Abdel Haleem: it shoots out sparks as large as treetrunk
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles
The Spoils of War 8:22 Noun
۞ إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَاۤبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلۡبُكۡمُ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah are the deaf and dumb who do not use reason
Abdel Haleem: the worst creatures in God’s eyes are those who are [wilfully] deaf and dumb, who do not reason
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! the worst of beasts in Allah's sight are the deaf, the dumb, who have no sense
The Spoils of War 8:55 Noun
إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَاۤبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah are those who have disbelieved, and they will not [ever] believe
Abdel Haleem: The worst creatures in the sight of God are those who reject Him and will not believe
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! the worst of beasts in Allah's sight are the ungrateful who will not believe
The Clear Proof, Evidence, The Proof 98:6 Noun
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أُولَٰئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures
Abdel Haleem: Those who disbelieve among the People of the Book and the idolaters will have the Fire of Hell, there to remain. They are the worst of creation
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created beings
The Earthquake, The Shaking 99:8 Noun
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it
Abdel Haleem: but whoever has done an atom’s-weight of evil will see that
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And whoso doeth ill an atom's weight will see it then
