وَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ ٱلضُّرُّ دَعَانَا لِجَنۢبِهِۦۤ أَوۡ قَاعِدًا أَوۡ قَاۤىِٕمࣰا فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُ ضُرَّهُۥ مَرَّ كَأَن لَّمۡ یَدۡعُنَاۤ إِلَىٰ ضُرࣲّ مَّسَّهُۥۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ زُیِّنَ لِلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when affliction touches man, he calls upon Us, whether lying on his side or sitting or standing; but when We remove from him his affliction, he continues [in disobedience] as if he had never called upon Us to [remove] an affliction that touched him. Thus is made pleasing to the transgressors that which they have been doin
Abdel Haleem: When trouble befalls man he cries out to Us, whether lying on his side, sitting, or standing, but as soon as We relieve him of his trouble he goes on his way as if he had never cried out to Us to remove his trouble. In this way the deeds of such heedless people are made attractive to them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And if misfortune touch a man he crieth unto Us, (while reclining) on his side, or sitting or standing, but when We have relieved him of the misfortune he goeth his way as though he had not cried unto Us because of a misfortune that afflicted him. Thus is what they do made (seeming) fair unto the prodigal
Jonah 10:98 Verb
فَلَوۡلَا كَانَتۡ قَرۡیَةٌ ءَامَنَتۡ فَنَفَعَهَاۤ إِیمَـٰنُهَاۤ إِلَّا قَوۡمَ یُونُسَ لَمَّاۤ ءَامَنُوا۟ كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡخِزۡیِ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَمَتَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٩٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then has there not been a [single] city that believed so its faith benefited it except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in worldly life and gave them enjoyment for a time
Abdel Haleem: If only a single town had believed and benefited from its belief! Only Jonah’s people did so, and when they believed, We relieved them of the punishment of disgrace in the life of this world, and let them enjoy life for a time
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: If only there had been a community (of all those that were destroyed of old) that believed and profited by its belief as did the folk of Jonah! When they believed We drew off from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the world and gave them comfort for a while
The Bee 16:54 Verb
ثُمَّ إِذَا كَشَفَ ٱلضُّرَّ عَنكُمۡ إِذَا فَرِیقࣱ مِّنكُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٥٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then when He removes the adversity from you, at once a party of you associates others with their Lor
Abdel Haleem: yet when He has relieved you of your hardship- lo and behold!- some of you attribute partners to your Lord
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And afterward, when He hath rid you of the misfortune, behold! a set of you attribute partners to their Lord
The Prophets 21:84 Verb
فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ فَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِۦ مِن ضُرࣲّۖ وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُ أَهۡلَهُۥ وَمِثۡلَهُم مَّعَهُمۡ رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنۡ عِندِنَا وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡعَـٰبِدِینَ ۝٨٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allah ]
Abdel Haleem: We answered him, removed his suffering, and restored his family to him, along with more like them, as an act of grace from Us and a reminder for all who serve Us
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then We heard his prayer and removed that adversity from which he suffered, and We gave him his household (that he had lost) and the like thereof along with them, a mercy from Our store, and a remembrance for the worshippers
The Believers 23:75 Verb
۞ وَلَوۡ رَحِمۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرࣲّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝٧٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly
Abdel Haleem: Even if We were to show them mercy and relieve them of distress, they would blindly persist in their transgression
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Though We had mercy on them and relieved them of the harm afflicting them, they still would wander blindly on in their contumacy
The Ant, The Ants 27:44 Verb
قِیلَ لَهَا ٱدۡخُلِی ٱلصَّرۡحَۖ فَلَمَّا رَأَتۡهُ حَسِبَتۡهُ لُجَّةࣰ وَكَشَفَتۡ عَن سَاقَیۡهَاۚ قَالَ إِنَّهُۥ صَرۡحࣱ مُّمَرَّدࣱ مِّن قَوَارِیرَۗ قَالَتۡ رَبِّ إِنِّی ظَلَمۡتُ نَفۡسِی وَأَسۡلَمۡتُ مَعَ سُلَیۡمَـٰنَ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٤٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): She was told, "Enter the palace." But when she saw it, she thought it was a body of water and uncovered her shins [to wade through]. He said, "Indeed, it is a palace [whose floor is] made smooth with glass." She said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah , Lord of the worlds."
Abdel Haleem: Then it was said to her, ‘Enter the hall,’ but when she saw it, she thought it was a deep pool of water, and bared her legs. Solomon explained, ‘It is just a hall paved with glass,’ and she said, ‘My Lord, I have wronged myself: I devote myself, with Solomon, to God, the Lord of the Worlds.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: It was said unto her: Enter the hall. And when she saw it she deemed it a pool and bared her legs. (Solomon) said: Lo! it is a hall, made smooth, of glass. She said: My Lord! Lo! I have wronged myself, and I surrender with Solomon unto Allah, the Lord of the Worlds
The Ant, The Ants 27:62 Verb
أَمَّن یُجِیبُ ٱلۡمُضۡطَرَّ إِذَا دَعَاهُ وَیَكۡشِفُ ٱلسُّوۤءَ وَیَجۡعَلُكُمۡ خُلَفَاۤءَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ أَءِلَـٰهࣱ مَّعَ ٱللَّهِۚ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٦٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Is He [not best] who responds to the desperate one when he calls upon Him and removes evil and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is there a deity with Allah ? Little do you remember
Abdel Haleem: Who is it that answers the distressed when they call upon Him? Who removes their suffering? Who makes you successors in the earth? Is it another god beside God? Little notice you take
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Is not He (best) Who answereth the wronged one when he crieth unto Him and removeth the evil, and hath made you viceroys of the earth? Is there any Allah beside Allah? Little do they reflect
Ornaments of Gold, Luxury, The Embellishment 43:50 Verb
فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمۡ یَنكُثُونَ ۝٥٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But when We removed from them the affliction, at once they broke their word
Abdel Haleem: but as soon as We relieved their torment they broke their word
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word
Smoke, The Evident Smoke 44:12 Verb
رَّبَّنَا ٱكۡشِفۡ عَنَّا ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers."
Abdel Haleem: Lord relieve us from this torment! We believe!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers
The Letter Qaf 50:22 Verb
لَّقَدۡ كُنتَ فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفۡنَا عَنكَ غِطَاۤءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ حَدِیدࣱ ۝٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [It will be said], "You were certainly in unmindfulness of this, and We have removed from you your cover, so your sight, this Day, is sharp."
Abdel Haleem: ‘You paid no attention to this [Day]; but today We have removed your veil and your sight is sharp.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (And unto the evil-doer it is said): Thou wast in heedlessness of this. Now We have removed from thee thy covering, and piercing is thy sight this day
The Pen 68:42 Verb
یَوۡمَ یُكۡشَفُ عَن سَاقࣲ وَیُدۡعَوۡنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ ۝٤٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able
Abdel Haleem: On the Day when matters become dire, they will be invited to prostrate themselves but will be prevented from doing so
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: On the day when it befalleth in earnest, and they are ordered to prostrate themselves but are not able
Cattle, Livestock 6:41 Verb
بَلۡ إِیَّاهُ تَدۡعُونَ فَیَكۡشِفُ مَا تَدۡعُونَ إِلَیۡهِ إِن شَاۤءَ وَتَنسَوۡنَ مَا تُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٤١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): No, it is Him [alone] you would invoke, and He would remove that for which you invoked Him if He willed, and you would forget what you associate [with Him]
Abdel Haleem: No indeed, it is on Him that you would call. If it were His will, He could remove whatever harm made you call on Him, and then you would forget what you now associate with Him
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Nay, but unto Him ye call, and He removeth that because of which ye call unto Him, if He will, and ye forget whatever partners ye ascribed unto Him
The Heights, The Elevated Places 7:134 Verb
وَلَمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلرِّجۡزُ قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمُوسَى ٱدۡعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَۖ لَىِٕن كَشَفۡتَ عَنَّا ٱلرِّجۡزَ لَنُؤۡمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَنُرۡسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ۝١٣٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, "O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you [can] remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel."
Abdel Haleem: They would say, whenever a plague struck them, ‘Moses, pray to your Lord for us by virtue of the promise He has made to you: if you relieve us of the plague, we will believe you and let the Children of Israel go with you,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when the terror fell on them they cried: O Moses! Pray for us unto thy Lord, because He hath a covenant with thee. If thou removest the terror from us we verily will trust thee and will let the Children of Israel go with thee
The Heights, The Elevated Places 7:135 Verb
فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُمُ ٱلرِّجۡزَ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلٍ هُم بَـٰلِغُوهُ إِذَا هُمۡ یَنكُثُونَ ۝١٣٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But when We removed the punishment from them until a term which they were to reach, then at once they broke their word
Abdel Haleem: but when We relieved them of the plague and gave them a fixed period [in which to fulfil their promise]- lo and behold!- they broke it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: But when We did remove from them the terror for a term which they must reach, behold! they broke their covenant

Jonah 10:107 Noun
وَإِن یَمۡسَسۡكَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرࣲّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُۥۤ إِلَّا هُوَۖ وَإِن یُرِدۡكَ بِخَیۡرࣲ فَلَا رَاۤدَّ لِفَضۡلِهِۦۚ یُصِیبُ بِهِۦ مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝١٠٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him; and if He intends for you good, then there is no repeller of His bounty. He causes it to reach whom He wills of His servants. And He is the Forgiving, the Merciful
Abdel Haleem: If God inflicts harm on you, no one can remove it but Him, and if He intends good for you, no one can turn His bounty away; He grants His bounty to any of His servants He will. He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: If Allah afflicteth thee with some hurt, there is none who can remove it save Him; and if He desireth good for thee, there is none who can repel His bounty. He striketh with it whom He will of his bondmen. He is the Forgiving, the Merciful
Children of Israel, The Israelites 17:56 Noun
قُلِ ٱدۡعُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ زَعَمۡتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَلَا یَمۡلِكُونَ كَشۡفَ ٱلضُّرِّ عَنكُمۡ وَلَا تَحۡوِیلًا ۝٥٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "Invoke those you have claimed [as gods] besides Him, for they do not possess the [ability for] removal of adversity from you or [for its] transfer [to someone else]."
Abdel Haleem: Say, ‘Call upon those you claim to be deities beside God: they have no power to remove or avert any harm from you.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say: Cry unto those (saints and angels) whom ye assume (to be gods) beside Him, yet they have no power to rid you of misfortune nor to change
The Troops, Throngs, The Companies 39:38 Noun
وَلَىِٕن سَأَلۡتَهُم مَّنۡ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ لَیَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُۚ قُلۡ أَفَرَءَیۡتُم مَّا تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِنۡ أَرَادَنِیَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ هَلۡ هُنَّ كَـٰشِفَـٰتُ ضُرِّهِۦۤ أَوۡ أَرَادَنِی بِرَحۡمَةٍ هَلۡ هُنَّ مُمۡسِكَـٰتُ رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ قُلۡ حَسۡبِیَ ٱللَّهُۖ عَلَیۡهِ یَتَوَكَّلُ ٱلۡمُتَوَكِّلُونَ ۝٣٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, " Allah ." Say, "Then have you considered what you invoke besides Allah ? If Allah intended me harm, are they removers of His harm; or if He intended me mercy, are they withholders of His mercy?" Say, "Sufficient for me is Allah ; upon Him [alone] rely the [wise] reliers."
Abdel Haleem: If you [Prophet] ask them, ‘Who created the heavens and earth?’ they are sure to answer, ‘God,’ so say, ‘Consider those you invoke beside Him: if God wished to harm me, could they undo that harm? If God wished to show me mercy, could they withhold that mercy?’ Say, ‘God is enough for me: all those who trust should put their trust in Him.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And verily, if thou shouldst ask them: Who created the heavens and the earth? they will say: Allah. Say: Bethink you then of those ye worship beside Allah, if Allah willed some hurt for me, could they remove from me His hurt; or if He willed some mercy for me, could they restrain His mercy? Say: Allah is my all. In Him do (all) the trusting put their trust
Smoke, The Evident Smoke 44:15 Noun
إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابِ قَلِیلًاۚ إِنَّكُمۡ عَاۤىِٕدُونَ ۝١٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]
Abdel Haleem: We shall hold the torment back for a while ––you are sure to return [to Us]––
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief)
The Star 53:58 Noun
لَیۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ ۝٥٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Of it, [from those] besides Allah , there is no remover
Abdel Haleem: and only God can disclose it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: None beside Allah can disclose it
Cattle, Livestock 6:17 Noun
وَإِن یَمۡسَسۡكَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرࣲّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُۥۤ إِلَّا هُوَۖ وَإِن یَمۡسَسۡكَ بِخَیۡرࣲ فَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣱ ۝١٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him. And if He touches you with good - then He is over all things competent
Abdel Haleem: If God touches you [Prophet] with affliction, no one can remove it except Him, and if He touches you with good, He has power over all things
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: If Allah touch thee with affliction, there is none that can relieve therefrom save Him, and if He touch thee with good fortune (there is none that can impair it); for He is Able to do all things
