رُّبَمَا یَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوۡ كَانُوا۟ مُسۡلِمِینَ ٢
rubamā yawaddu alladhīna kafarū law kānū mus'limīn
The disbelievers may well come to wish they had submitted to God

ذَرۡهُمۡ یَأۡكُلُوا۟ وَیَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَیُلۡهِهِمُ ٱلۡأَمَلُۖ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ ٣
dharhum yakulū wayatamattaʿū wayul'hihimu l-amalu fasawfa yaʿlamūn
so [Prophet] leave them to eat and enjoy themselves. Let [false] hopes distract them: they will come to know

وَمَاۤ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَرۡیَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ ٤
wamā ahlaknā min qaryatin illā walahā kitābun maʿlūmu
Never have We destroyed a community that did not have a set time

مَّا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا یَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ ٥
mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wamā yastakhirūn
no community can bring its time forward, nor delay it
6
وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِی نُزِّلَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلذِّكۡرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجۡنُونࣱ ٦
waqālū yāayyuhā alladhī nuzzila ʿalayhi l-dhik'ru innaka lamajnūnu
They say, ‘Receiver of this Quran! You are definitely mad

لَّوۡ مَا تَأۡتِینَا بِٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ٧
law mā tatīnā bil-malāikati in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīn
Why do you not bring us the angels, if you are telling the truth?’

مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوۤا۟ إِذࣰا مُّنظَرِینَ ٨
mā nunazzilu l-malāikata illā bil-ḥaqi wamā kānū idhan munẓarīn
But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then these people will not be reprieved
9
إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُونَ ٩
innā naḥnu nazzalnā l-dhik'ra wa-innā lahu laḥāfiẓūn
We have sent down the Quran Ourself, and We Ourself will guard it. Even before you [Prophet]
10
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ فِی شِیَعِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ١٠
walaqad arsalnā min qablika fī shiyaʿi l-awalīn
We sent messengers among the various communities of old
