Verse 15:78 in Context

74
فَجَعَلۡنَا عَـٰلِیَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ حِجَارَةࣰ مِّن سِجِّیلٍ ٧٤
fajaʿalnā ʿāliyahā sāfilahā wa-amṭarnā ʿalayhim ḥijāratan min sijjīli
We turned their city upside down and rained on them a shower of clay stones
75
إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّلۡمُتَوَسِّمِینَ ٧٥
inna fī dhālika laāyātin lil'mutawassimīn
There truly is a sign in this for those who can learn
76
وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِیلࣲ مُّقِیمٍ ٧٦
wa-innahā labisabīlin muqīmi
it is still there on the highway
77
إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ٧٧
inna fī dhālika laāyatan lil'mu'minīn
there truly is a sign in this for those who believe
78
وَإِن كَانَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَیۡكَةِ لَظَـٰلِمِینَ ٧٨
wa-in kāna aṣḥābu l-aykati laẓālimīn
The forest-dwellers, too, were wrongdoer
79
فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ٧٩
fa-intaqamnā min'hum wa-innahumā labi-imāmin mubīni
and We took retribution on them; both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see
80
وَلَقَدۡ كَذَّبَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡحِجۡرِ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ٨٠
walaqad kadhaba aṣḥābu l-ḥij'ri l-mur'salīn
The people of al-Hijr also rejected Our messengers
81
وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِینَ ٨١
waātaynāhum āyātinā fakānū ʿanhā muʿ'riḍīn
We gave them Our signs, but they turned their backs
82
وَكَانُوا۟ یَنۡحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ بُیُوتًا ءَامِنِینَ ٨٢
wakānū yanḥitūna mina l-jibāli buyūtan āminīn
They carved out dwellings in the mountains, and lived in security
