Verse 37:16 in Context

12 بَلۡ عَجِبۡتَ وَیَسۡخَرُونَ ۝١٢ bal ʿajib'ta wayaskharūn You marvel as they scoff 13 وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا یَذۡكُرُونَ ۝١٣ wa-idhā dhukkirū lā yadhkurūn take no heed when they are warned 14 وَإِذَا رَأَوۡا۟ ءَایَةࣰ یَسۡتَسۡخِرُونَ ۝١٤ wa-idhā ra-aw āyatan yastaskhirūn and resort to ridicule when they see a sign 15 وَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا سِحۡرࣱ مُّبِینٌ ۝١٥ waqālū in hādhā illā siḥ'run mubīnu saying, ‘This is no more than blatant sorcery.’
16 أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝١٦ a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn ‘What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we really be raised up again
17 أَوَ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝١٧ awaābāunā l-awalūn along with our forefathers?’ 18 قُلۡ نَعَمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ دَ ٰخِرُونَ ۝١٨ qul naʿam wa-antum dākhirūn Say, ‘Yes indeed, and you will be humiliated.’ 19 فَإِنَّمَا هِیَ زَجۡرَةࣱ وَ ٰحِدَةࣱ فَإِذَا هُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ ۝١٩ fa-innamā hiya zajratun wāḥidatun fa-idhā hum yanẓurūn Just one blast and––lo and behold!––they will loo 20 وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٢٠ waqālū yāwaylanā hādhā yawmu l-dīn and say, ‘Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgement.’
